Hyderabad: YSR Telangana Party chief YS Sharmila was prevented from leaving her house, by the city police on Monday, to submit a representation to the Special Investigation Team officials investigating the TSPSC paper leak.

As she attempted to leave her home, police officials restricted her. However, Sharmila charged towards her vehicle but was prevented from entering it.

Tension erupted at Lotus Pond as she sat on the road in front of her house.

Sharmila picked up a heated argument with the cops as she was allegedly being ‘manhandled’ and ‘restricted’ by women constables.

Enraged, Sharmila was seen manhandling a policeman and pushing him after he stopped her from entering her car. She also allegedly ‘slaps’ a lady constable as she tries to grab her hand.

She was then taken away by the police in their vehicle.

Sahrmila’s hunger strike was scheduled on April 17 under the umbrella of ‘Telangana Students’ Action for Vacancies and Employment’ (T-SAVE), a platform mooted by YSRTP President Y.S. Sharmila but the police had denied permission for the same.

Earlier, Sharmila had filed a petition in the High Court, seeking direction from the police to allow her protest against unemployment.

The High Court, however, directed that not more than 500 people should participate in the hunger strike.

After the police denied the permission, the YSRTP lashed out at chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for it calls his atrocious reign and dictatorial treatment of those who raised voices against his failures and fake promises.

New Delhi: Several students protesting against the debarment of two students over the screening of the controversial BBC documentary alleged on Friday that they were manhandled by the police and university security inside the Delhi University’s Arts Faculty.

The students were sitting on an indefinite strike to protest against the “draconian” action by the university authorities. There was no immediate reaction from the varsity authority and the police.

The students have claimed that there were heavy police and paramilitary forces deployments inside the varsity’s arts faculty ahead of the protest.

“Students who gathered for the indefinite strike against debarring of two students from DU have been beaten and detained by Delhi Police and DU Guards. As many as 25 students have been detained,” All India Students’ Association (AISA) Delhi president Abhigyan told PTI.

According to sources, several students have been taken to Burari police station.

“Students gathered at arts’ faculty against the arbitary notice debarring two students have been brutally beaten, manhandled and detained. This exposes the Nexus of the police, BJP-RSS backed college administration. We will not be silenced by such measures, protest to protect our campus democracy, dissent will continue untill this notice is withdrawn!” AISA DU Secretary Anjali said.

In a video shared by the AISA activists, security forces of the university were seen dragging, removing and pushing students from the spot.

Delhi University has barred two students, including a Congress students’ wing leader, for a year for allegedly participating in a screening of the BBC documentary titled ‘The Modi Question’ on the 2002 Godhra riots on campus.

During this period, the students will not be allowed to take any university or college or departmental examination, according to the memorandum dated March 10.

Six other students allegedly involved in the January 27 incident have been given “less strict” punishment, the official said, while indicating that more students might be implicated.

Councillor, Municipal Council, Pulwama Bilal Rather, accused of misbehaving with the doctor on duty in Pulwama, was seen screaming at a doctor , and later allegedly hurling choicest abuses at him. All this was recorded in a video that was posted on various social media platforms garnering thousands of views.

After the incident, the doctors of the DH Pulwama including the paramedical staff have written to the concerned Medical Superintendent, seeking immediate action.

The medical staff has stated that on 27-02-2023, around 06:15 pm while their colleague was busy with his duty in casualty, “few miscreants barged into the room and started asking in a rude manner about the non-availability of USG facility in the hospital after 4.30 pm and why the patient has been asked to undergo USG outside.”
