Raichur: Congress President Mallikarjun KhargeMallikarjun Kharge on Thursday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his statement that if Congress is voted to power in Karnataka, the state would be affected by riots.

“Amit Shah is delivering provocative speeches and trying to incite violence,” he said at a rally in Raichur.

“People of Karnataka are peace-loving and have faith in principles of Buddha and Basava. Amit Shah says there will be riots if Congress comes to power. Why? The Congress has ruled 60 to 70 years. Where have the riots happened? Amit Shah is now trying to provoke people.

“There is a history of violence, rioting in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. But, people of Karnataka are peace loving,” he said.

“The CCTVs have to be fixed at hyper-sensitive booths. People will know who is trying to be violent,” Kharge said, adding that he will write a letter in this regard to the Election Commission..

Noting that the Election Commission has issued a notice to his son Priyank Kharge, he asserted that his son was “not a person to get scared. He is a courageous man. He is living for principles and ideology”. Priyank Kharge was issued notice for calling PM Narendra Modi as “nalayak beta”.

“If you get scared a little, BJP will scare you completely. BJP people will create violence intentionally. Look at how the Prime Minister is wandering all areas to defeat legislators. See and imagine how he had lost hope. In their regime, the poor are becoming poorer. Rich are getting richer. If this gap has to be removed, Congress will have to come to power,” Kharge maintained.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s son Priyank calls Modi ‘nalayak’

Kalaburagi: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s son and party leader Priyank Kharge on Monday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘nalayak’ drawing the ire of BJP brass while the grand old party asserted that such a remark was never made by him.

Priyank, seeking reelection from Chittapur in Kalaburagi district said Modi claiming to be a son of the Banjara community and promising to take care of them was “inept” because he and his party had created confusion about reservations for the SC community.

His remark comes days after Mallikarjun Kharge’s “venomous snake” barb aimed at PM Modi.

    MS Education Academy

BJP president J P Nadda said opposition leaders have been using such language against the Prime Minister to “please” their masters, a reference to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said: “In a state of despair of losing the election, he (Priyank) has forgotten his limits. A few days ago, his father withdrew his words. Now, it’s his turn. People will teach them a lesson.”

Mallikarjun Kharge stoutly defended his son and said he never made such comments. The Congress president said: “No. No. It is very wrong. He never said it. Don’t put these words into his mouth. He attacked the parliament member (not Modi) who abused him. So, don’t put these words into his mouth (saying it was meant) for Modi. I am sorry, everywhere this is going on (misquoting) purposely. Morning he (Priyank) condemned it but still you people are asking.”

Priyank, addressing a poll gathering quoted from Modi’s speech and said: “When you (PM Modi) came to Gulbarga (Kalaburagi) what did you tell the people of Banjara community? “Aap sab log dariye mat. Banjara ka ek beta Dilli mein Baitha hai (You do not be afraid. A son of Banjara is sitting in Delhi).”

“Aisa nalayak beta baitha to kaise hota bhai? Ghar kaise chalega?” (If an inept son is sitting in Delhi, how can you run the family?), he asked.

Priyank further said though Modi claimed to be the son of the Banjara community, confusion was created on reservation by the BJP regime in Karnataka.

“Didn’t injustice happen to the Banjara community? Why were stones thrown at Yediyurappa’s house in Shikaripura (in Shivamogga district)? Why Bandh was observed in Kalaburagi and Jewargi? Today there is confusion in the reservation,” the Congress leader claimed.

Priyank, who had been a minister in the Siddaramaiah government said, “The Prime Minister during his earlier visit said he was a son of the Koli community and the Kabbaliga and Kuruba communities. Today he calls himself a son of the Banjara community.”

At the fag end of its term, the BJP government passed a bill to increase the reservation for the Scheduled Castes from 15 per cent to 17 per cent and provide for internal quota for SC communities. It led to a furore among sections of people like Banjaras who feared that their share in the quota pie would get reduced due to internal reservation. The BJP has said time and again that the quota has only been increased and blamed the Congress for misinformation campaign.

Speaking to reporters, Nadda said the Congress is going through “mental bankruptcy” and its leaders have been following the Gandhi family in using derogatory language against the Prime Minister. “They are doing so to please their senior leaders.”

The BJP president claimed the Congress has already lost the election in the southern state and that is why “venom” is coming out from its’ leaders who are in “frustration”.

People do not approve of such language and their love for the Prime Minister has been growing, he said.

BJP IT department head Amit Malviya took a swipe at Priyank Kharge, asking what would he be doing if he was not the son of Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president?

“It is anybody’s guess! It is quite rich for someone who is feeding off his father’s name, to call a democratically elected PM ‘nalayak’. It is fine to disagree with the PM, criticise him, but calling him names shows a depraved mind. Junior Kharge should focus on defending his seat and not punch above his weight,” he tweeted.

Legal team working on Rahul Gandhi’s case: Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said that a legal team is working on the case in which former INC chief Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a Gujarat court following which he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha.

Kharge said that the party is ready to face the matter “politically and legally”, and also criticised the Central government for disqualifying Rahul Gandhi “in haste”.

The Congress president termed the disqualification “vengeance”.

As a mark of protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha, and to press its demand for a probe into the allegations of fraud levelled against the Adani Group, the Congress has launched ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ across the country against the Centre .

The party has set up a war room to monitor the ‘Satyagraha’, which will culminate in Delhi with a rally.

Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had said: “The ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ is a protest against the erroneous conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, and to express the party’s strong resolve to keep raising the voice of the people against the blatant loot of people’s money and nation’s wealth.”

As part of the programmes planned to be organised during the protest, all block/mandal units of the Congress will hold ‘nukkad sabhas’ and address the public on relevant issues.

Social media campaigns focusing on Rahul Gandhi’s message to the people will also be carried out to appeal for public support for the ‘Satyagraha’.

  • Govt not letting Parliament run to avoid Adani issue: Mallikarjun Kharge

Govt not letting Parliament run to avoid Adani issue: Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday accused the government of instigating the Opposition and not letting Parliament function to avoid a discussion on the Adani issue and its “failures”.

He also reiterated that there is no question of an apology over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the UK.

Gandhi’s remarks during his recent trip to the United Kingdom have rocked Parliament, with both Houses failing to transact any significant business on the first three days of the Budget session’s second half.

“Is there untouchability or not, it is there, so if someone goes abroad that person will talk about it likewise democracy is being trampled upon, we were demonstrating peacefully yesterday, who stopped us? They put women constables in the front to try and stop us,” Kharge alleged.

The Congress along with several other opposition parties had taken out a protest march from Parliament House to hand over a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate on the Adani issue on Wednesday. However, they were stopped by the police at Vijay Chowk here.

The government’s intention is to avoid the Adani issue, so that it is not discussed, and their “failures” are not discussed in Parliament, the Congress president told reporters ahead of the start of parliamentary proceedings in the morning.

“Have you ever heard that ruling party people are stalling proceedings daily, they get up first and start saying ‘maafi maango’, ‘maafi maango’ (apologise), what is this. The government is instigating and they preach about democracy to others,” he said.

During his interactions in the UK, Gandhi alleged that the structures of Indian democracy are under attack and there is a “full-scale assault” on the country’s institutions.

The former Congress president also told British parliamentarians in London that microphones are often “turned off” in Lok Sabha when an opposition member raises important issues.

Gandhi’s remarks triggered a political slugfest, with the BJP accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and seeking foreign intervention, and the Congress hitting back at the ruling party by citing instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising internal politics abroad.

  • It pains when important things spoken in Parliament are expunged: Mallikarjun Kharge

It pains when important things spoken in Parliament are expunged: Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The freedom to speak and write the truth is “under threat”, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Tuesday and lamented that it is painful when important things and even poetry spoken in Parliament are expunged from records.

Speaking at the Lokmat National Conclave here, the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha said that media is an important pillar of democracy but is facing suppression from the powers that be.

Noting that the Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech and expression to every Indian, he claimed that while a section of the media is fighting for this freedom, another section of media has “surrendered”.

“Today the freedom of speaking and writing the truth is under threat. Fake news, TRP scams, sensationalism and favouritism have affected the media’s image to an extent.

“In our parliamentary democracy, parliamentarians and the media have the right to ask questions, but when important matters spoken in Parliament are expunged from the records, then it pains us,” he said addressing the gathering at the event where he and other eminent parliamentarians were awarded the Lokmat Parliamentary award.

The Congress has been piqued over the Chair expunging the remarks made by Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha respectively on the Adani issue during the first phase of the Budget session.

The party has alleged that the Opposition voices were being stifled.

“There are many big journalists who fearlessly opposed fascist, casteist forces and communalism, but are today looking weak. It is a matter of concern that out of 180 countries on freedom of media our ranking is at 150th,” the Congress chief said.

He claimed a section of the media was encouraging superstition and “questions on poverty and unemployment are vanishing”.

He said party leader Rahul Gandhi had carried out the Bharat Jodo Yatra but a section of the media “ignored” it.

He also said that the recent Congress’ Raipur plenary session which he chaired and was attended by over 10,000 leaders from across the country did not find any space in official channels including Sansad TV.

“Today there is a threat to the Constitution and democracy. We all are fighting it and the media has a significant role to play.

“Many mediapersons are good but their voice is not heard and are being arm-twisted and weakened,” he claimed while calling for strengthening the media.

The Congress, meanwhile, hailed Kharge for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. “Congratulations on this remarkable achievement and unwavering commitment to the nation,” the party said on its Twitter handle.

Mallikarjun Kharge to launch Congress’ mass outreach programme in J’khand on Saturday

    [ad_1]

Ranchi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Jharkhand on Saturday and launch the state unit’s Haath Se Haath Jodo’ mass outreach programme, a party leader said on Friday.

He will roll out the 60-day Haath Se Haath Jodo’ (Join Hands Together) campaign from the Gumani Ground in Pakur assembly constituency in Sahebganj district, around 400 km from state capital Ranchi.

Party workers will conduct a door-to-door visit during the campaign, which will “expose the BJP-led central government’s anti-people policies”, Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur told PTI.

The programme will kick start from the Santhal region, comprising Sahebganj, Pakur, Dumka and Deoghar, among other districts, he said.

The region holds significance for both the UPA and NDA ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had visited Deoghar on February 4 and addressed the BJP’s Vijay Sankalp’ rally, where he asserted that the saffron party will win all 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state in next year’s elections.

Saddened to hear about crash involving two IAF fighter jets: Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said he was saddened to hear about the unfortunate crash involving two fighter jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and wished the injured pilots a speedy recovery.

A Sukhoi 30MKI and a Mirage-2000 aircraft of the IAF crashed in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh during a routine training mission on Saturday, resulting in the death of a wing commander while two other pilots ejected safely.

“Dismayed to hear about the unfortunate aircraft crash involving two fighter jets of Indian Air Force.

“Salutations to the pilot who made the supreme sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. Wishing speedy recovery to the injured pilots,” Kharge said on Twitter.

The Congress also said the news of crash involving the two IAF fighter jets is very sad.

“We pray to the god to grant place in his feet to the pilot killed in the crash and strength to his family. We also pray for the speedy recovery of the pilots injured in the crash,” the party said in a tweet in Hindi.

Officials said the two pilots of the Sukhoi-30MKI aircraft ejected safely while the pilot of the Mirage-2000 lost his life.

“Two fighter aircraft of IAF were involved in an accident near Gwalior today morning,” the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

It said the aircraft were on a routine operational flying training mission. “One of the three pilots involved sustained fatal injuries. An inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident,” the IAF said.
