‘Taj Mahal can’t be a symbol of love’: BJP legislator

Guwahati: Assam BJP legislator Rupjyoti Kurmi on Thursday said that the Taj Mahal cannot be a symbol of love.

“Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in the memory of his 4th wife Mumtaz. However, he married three ladies after the demise of Mumtaz,” Kurmi claimed.

“How could Shah Jahan marry three other women following the death of Mumtaz if he had really loved her?” he wondered.

Earlier, the BJP legislator asserted that the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar should be demolished.

In the wake of an alteration in the syllabus of History, Civics and Hindi for class 12, Kurmi issued an appeal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raze the two Mughal-era built monuments.

He said: “I urge the Prime Minister to immediately demolish the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar. In place of these two monuments, the world’s most beautiful temples should be built.”

“I also appeal that the architecture of these two temples should be so that no other monuments can come closer to them,” the MLA added.

Kurmi further said that he was ready to donate at least his one and a half year’s salary for the construction of temples.

This led to a huge controversy and the Congress leader filed an FIR against the BJP legislator.

Guwahati: As the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) revised its books for various classes, including the Class 12 History textbook by omitting the chapters on the Mughal empire, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Assam on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demolish monuments such as Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar.

“I urge the Prime Minister to immediately demolish the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar. In place of these two monuments, the world’s most beautiful temples should be built. The architecture of those two temples should be such that no other monuments could be even closer to them,” the legislator said.

Kurmi further said that he is ready to donate at least his one-and-a-half year’s salary for construction of the temples.

The latest change would apply to all the schools in the country that follow the syllabus of the NCERT.

The NCERT said that the changes will be applicable from the current academic session — 2023-2024.

Notably, in the latest changes in the Class 12 syllabus, the chapters related to the Mughal Empire were omitted from History textbooks by NCERT, while a few poems and paragraphs were also removed from the Hindi book.

The “Themes of Indian History-Part II” textbook’s chapters on the Mughal Court, monarchs, and their history have been eliminated from the updated curriculum.

It is to be mentioned that Rupjyoti Kurmi, four-time MLA and once an ardent critic of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, switched from the Congress to the BJP in June 2021.

He earlier won the Mariani assembly seat on Congress ticket.

After joining the BJP, Kurmi was re-elected to the Assembly from the same constituency.

  • Hyderabad’s Sardar Mahal to embellish Charminar area for tourists: KTR

Hyderabad’s Sardar Mahal to embellish Charminar area for tourists: KTR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao asserted Sardar Mahal, located in the Kotla Alijah, Mughalpura, in the city is set to become a major attraction for tourists around Charminar.

Remarking on the progress made in the restoration plan of Sardar Mahal, the minister took to Twitter and said that the mahal would enthral tourists once completely restored.

The chief secretary of Urban Development, Arvind Kumar shared pictures of the mahal following the completion of cleaning works on Wednesday.

The secretary stated that the mahal looked attractive even as only cleaning works had been carried out and additional restoration works were yet to begin.

Arvind Kumar recently also revealed that Sardar Mahal will have an art gallery, cafe and heritage accommodation on the lines of Neemrana Fort Palace in Rajasthan.

    Nizam’s legacy

According to officials, Sardar Mahal, a palace built in European style by Nizam VI Mir Mahboob Ali Khan in 1900, will be conserved and restored to its original structure with additional architectural works.

Though Mahboob Ali Khan, the then ruler of Hyderabad state, built the palace for one of his beloved consorts, Sardar Begum, she refused to inhabit this token of love as it did not live up to her expectations. No one stayed there but the building took her name.

It was declared a heritage building by the Heritage Conservation Committee and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took over Sardar Mahal in 1965 due to outstanding property taxes.

Restoration works worth Rs 30 crore

As per plans announced earlier, the heritage structure will be developed as a cultural hub with a museum, a 10-12 room hotel and various activities including exhibitions and performances. However, plans for the hotel have reportedly been dropped.

The proposed activities include cultural events, workshops, art exhibitions, heritage walks and hospitality. The project has been taken up in Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Built, Operate and Transfer concept.

According to QQSUDA, this will create and strengthen the identity of Hyderabad as a synonym for heritage, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation at local and regional levels and maximise the historical, cultural, social and tourist potential of the Charminar area.

In April last year, KTR with Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi formally launched the works to conserve, restore and strengthen Sardar Mahal.

KTR had announced that the project, taken up at a cost of Rs 30 crores, will turn into the cultural hub of the city, adding an attraction for thousands of tourists who visit Charminar, Makkah Masjid, Chowmahalla Palace and other monuments every day.
