Is Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr and join Real Madrid?

Riyadh: Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly planning to leave the Saudi Arabian football club, Al-Nassr and is considering taking a new position at his former club Real Madrid.

According to El Nacional, Ronaldo has opted to leave Saudi Arabia because of linguistic and cultural problems.

As per media reports, Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has offered the footballer an ambassadorial role at his former club. But reports indicate that if Cristiano returns, he will be a club ambassador.

On December 30, Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr on a 2.5-year contract. He had signed a deal worth more than 200 million euros after a dispute with Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag.

Since joining the Al-Nassr, he has scored 11 goals in 14 appearances but has run into a few bumps in his path.

He missed the first two games of the league due to the suspension he served at Manchester United, the team could not sustain that spark with Ronaldo starting well as captain at Al-Nassr.

After losing the match against Al Hilal in the Saudi League, Al-Nassr’s status in the league is deteriorating. Cristiano’s obscene gesture towards Al-Hilal fans after returning from defeat became very controversial. Hilal’s victory was by two uncontested goals in a game where Cristiano faded.

On April 18, a Saudi lawyer called for Cristiano Ronaldo to be deported for public indecency after he appeared grabbing his crotch towards fans while walking off the pitch.

A video shared on social media platforms showed Ronaldo grabbing his crotch as he left the pitch in response to fans chanting the name of Lionel Messi.

It is reported that all this and more led to Ronaldo’s decision to leave Al-Nassr and join the Spanish giants.

  • EuroLeague playoff game suspended after wild on-court brawl in Madrid

EuroLeague playoff game suspended after wild on-court brawl in Madrid

    [ad_1]

A EuroLeague basketball game between Real Madrid and Partizan Belgrade was suspended with less than two minutes left after a brawl between players from both teams.

Madrid were losing 95-80 at home – and about to go down two games to none in their playoff series – when a hard foul by Madrid guard Sergio Llull on American forward Kevin Punter upset Partizan players and led to the benches being cleared.

Punches were thrown and a couple of players, one from each team, were tossed to the ground by opponents during the melee in the Spanish capital.

Officials spent several minutes watching replays before deciding to call the game off with 1:40 left because “neither team had the requisite minimum of two players each required to finish the game” after all disqualifications were applied, the league said. The game was considered officially over with Partizan Belgrade as the winner.

“Euroleague Basketball strongly condemns the events that happened at the end of the game,” the league said. “Such events do not represent the values of respect that the league and its clubs promote and that the sport of basketball embodies.”

The league said its independent disciplinary judge “will issue a decision about the on-court incidents in accordance with the established proceedings within the following 24 hours”.

Among the former NBA players in the middle of the action were Partizan’s Dante Exum and Madrid’s Guerschon Yabusele and Džanan Musa.

Exum, who played seven seasons with the Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers and helped Australia to a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics, suffered an apparent ruptured tendon in his toe after getting body-slammed by Yabusele. The Melbourne native was later seen departing the arena on crutches.

“The way Yabusele threw him with a judo move, that’s for prison, for life suspension. As Yabusele threw him, Exum could have broken his spine, seriously injured his head, and ended his career,” Partizan’s doctor Moma Jakovljevic told Mozzart Sport. “This was terrible. I have never seen this in my life.”

Partizan Belgrade coach Zeljko Obradovic said emotions took over the players, but “after the game they greeted each other” and it was all “finished and discussed between them.”

“This is in the hands of the officials and in the hands of the EuroLeague,” he said. “I believe that what happened is not good for the image of basketball, not good for the image of Real Madrid nor for Partizan. This should never happen. The players have emotions and this has happened.”

Obradovic pledged to try to calm Partizan Belgrade fans ahead of the third game of the best-of-five series, which is scheduled for Tuesday in Belgrade.

“When we go to Belgrade tomorrow, I’m going to talk about that,” he said. “I’m going to try to calm everybody so that we receive Real Madrid like the people here have received us. That they are going to support our team, yes, but that they are not going to do anything against Real Madrid.”

Partizan Belgrade won the first game in Madrid 89-87.

  • Fifteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva topples Beatriz Haddad Maia at Madrid Open

Fifteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva topples Beatriz Haddad Maia at Madrid Open

    [ad_1]

Across the southern barrios of Madrid, the 15-year-old Mirra Andreeva continued to command attention on her debut at the Madrid Open as she followed up her maiden WTA victory against Leylah Fernandez by toppling Beatriz Haddad Maia, the world No 14, 7-6 (6), 6-3 to reach the third round.

Andreeva, a Russian player who was born in Siberia but lives in Cannes, is only the seventh player under 16 years old in the 21st century to defeat a top 20 player. The victory continues one of the most impressive breakout seasons this year.

Since narrowly losing in the Australian Open girls final, Andreeva has won every professional match she has played in 2023 and received a wildcard in Madrid after winning two consecutive ITF tournaments. Currently ranked 194, Andreeva will rise to a new career high of at least 164. She is also the youngest of two playing siblings: her 18-year-old sister, Erika, is ranked 114th and on the verge of the top 100.

“I’m a bit surprised [to be in the third round] but also everyone was telling me they are playing the same level as you, they are just more consistent,” Andreeva told WTA Insider. “Their mental level is different but the game-level is almost the same.”

Andy Murray’s poor run of form continued as he was beaten in the first round of the Madrid Open by Andrea Vavassori, an Italian qualifier ranked 164, losing 6-2, 7-6 (7). While Murray started the match poorly the Italian served well, with the Scot rushing the net as he quickly found himself down a set and a break. Despite his poor level throughout, Murray still had the chance to force a third set after recovering the second set break and pushing Vavassori to a tie-break.

From 3-6 down in the tie-break, Murray saved three match points and then put himself in a brilliant position at 6-6, sweeping to the net and finding an open court to finish the point. Instead, he dumped a backhand volley into the net. Shortly after Vavassori closed out the match.

“You probably would have made that,” said Murray to a journalist, smiling. “No disrespect to your tennis abilities, but I mean it’s not a shot that top players should be missing. Bad miss.”

After a positive start to the season, Murray’s form has flatlined. Over the past six weeks he has lost four matches, and eight sets, in succession. Despite a variety of views within his team, though, Murray says he would like to play at the French Open, possibly for the last time.

“I would like to play just purely because I don’t know if I’ll get another opportunity to play again,” he said. “Whilst I feel fit and healthy, I would like to give it a go. But, yeah, I also have ambitions of competing for Wimbledon titles and that sort of stuff. I know that sitting here today that probably doesn’t sound realistic, but I do believe that that’s a possibility. I obviously want to do the right thing there.”

    Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski will not be present. FC Barcelona has communicated this morning through its social networks that the Polish player suffers an injury that will keep him away from the pitch for 14 days. The former Bayern player joins Pedri and Ousmane Dembélé on the list of players who will not travel to Madrid. Very important losses for Barcelona fans.

On the part of Real Madrid, the infirmary is not so full. Rodrygo, Alaba and Mendy are the players who will not be available for the big game on Thursday.

Barça have been at a very low level for two consecutive games, while Madrid were not able to defeat Atlético de Madrid, but last week they exhibited themselves at Anfield.

From 90min we are betting on a close match with few goals, because although the meringues have more ballots to win given the losses of Barça, in the rear the culés are still impeccable.
