It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand” – this famous quote by the great revolutionary leader, from South Africa, gives one the understanding how far and long sports have a bearing on the people. In sync with the quote, Kashmir too seems to be falling into the lap thick and fast with this time around a budding Cricketer from Sopore in Baramulla being called for trails by Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants’, barely weeks into Jasia Akhter being bought up by a franchise for maiden Women’s Premier League.

    The Sopore boy Aamir Feroze was left utterly surprised after he received a call from the KL Rahul led Lucknow Super Giants – as this could possibly open to him a whole new world and bring him more close to represent Jammu and Kashmir and who knows this opportunity if executed to its fullest some day may help him to be part of national team as well.

    Speaking exclusively with GNS over the phone, Aamir Feroze said that he has been playing outside Kashmir for the last several years now.

    “I have been playing with a Pune-based Cricket Academy ‘Deccan Gymkhana’ as a net bowler for Indian star Cricketer Rahul Tripathi”, says Aamir adding “It is (the place) where the (LSG) franchise has recognized me – for the trails.”

    “Although I wasn’t not called up to represent any franchise for my services, I thankfully received high praises from all around”, says Aamir.

    Expressing his jubilation over the call for trials now, Aamir says that he never dreamt about being called up to represent himself on such a big platform.”I never had dreamt that one day I could reach this level where I will be called to represent such a big platform. I am very happy that at least my efforts have not gone wasted. I will fight and put all my efforts into making my name appear on the ultimate list one day,” Aamir said.

    “With this opportunity, my wings have flapped and I am finding a new way to fight, for this milestone is a challenge for me now.”

    In a message to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Aamir said, “Come forward, be a sports lover and be the change.” He said sports can replace the depression and anxiety that is rising in J&K and that youth should boost sports and actively participate in sports-related activities, which will only help them grow mentally and professionally and can change their career as well.

    Notably Parvez Rasool, Abdul Samad, seam sensation Umran Malik besides Jammu-based all-rounder Vivrant Sharma have already hogged the limelight for their skill and talent in the most sought after Cricket league.

    Jasia Akhtar, a resident of Braripora village in south Kashmir was another addition after she was successfully bid up by ‘Delhi Capitals’ for the ongoing maiden edition of Women’s Premier League. (GNS)

    FIR lodged against Shah Rukh Khan’s wife Gauri in Lucknow

    Lucknow: An FIR has been lodged against Gauri Khan, designer and wife of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.

    The case against Gauri has been registered under section 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code.

    The complaint was filed by Jaswant Shah, a resident of Mumbai, who alleged that the company — of which Gauri was the brand ambassador — failed to give possession of a flat despite charging Rs 86 lakh.

    The complainant alleged that the flat located in Tulsiyani Golf View at Lucknow’s Sushant Golf City area was given to someone else.

    Apart from Gauri, the complaint was also filed against Tulsiyani Construction and Development Limited Chief Managing Director, Anil Kumar Tulsiyani, and its Director Mahesh Tulsiyani.

    The complainant said he bought the flat after being influenced by brand ambassador Gauri Khan.

    “We now intend to take this initiative to the next level by focusing on the 200 Backward Minority-dominated Districts of the Country where a large segment of the Community is marginalised and needs to be brought at par with other communities’ social indicators,” they added.

    Lucknow: The court of additional district judge-I (ADJ-I) Prafull Kamal has allowed Hindu litigants to appeal in a lower court for a survey of the Teele Wali Masjid in Lucknow.

    The ADJ court quashed the contention of Muslim litigants that the case is not maintainable.

    The Hindu litigants had claimed that the Teele Wali Masjid was ‘Lakshman Teela’ constructed by Lakshman, younger brother of Lord Ram.

    The court of additional civil judges (junior division) will hear the case on February 17.

    Lawyer Hari Shankar Jain had filed this case in the civil court in Lucknow in 2013, seeking a survey of the mosque. The case has been pending since then.

    Muslim litigants had challenged the case in the court of an additional district judge, stating that it is not maintainable.

    “The court of additional district judge has permitted Hindu litigants to appeal in the lower court for survey of Teele Wali Masjid,” said Madhu Sen, a lawyer who represented the Hindu litigants, along with another lawyer Shekhar Nigam.

    During the case hearing, the Hindu litigants urged the court to allow a survey of the mosque campus, especially the area allegedly annexed by the mosque committee in 2013 by erecting a boundary wall.

    Bengaluru: A female dentist from Lucknow died by suicide in Bengaluru after being constantly harassed by a colleague at a hospital here, police said.

    The victim worked at the MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital.

    According to the police, she was being pestered by her colleague, identified as Sumit who worked in the same hospital.

    It is alleged that Sumit had forced the victim to marry him and also compelled her to consume alcohol and smoke.

    The accused was also pestering the deceased to give him money. But she turned down all his requests, the police said.

    Enraged by this, Sumit allegedly spread rumors about the victim’s character at the hospital, following which she took the drastic step.

    The incident had taken place on January 25 and the Sanjaynagar police are investigating the case.

    The Lucknow sessions court on Tuesday ordered the release of Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan from jail.

    Kappan was arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras where a Dalit woman had died after being allegedly raped.

    He was arrested by the Mathura police for having links with the Popular Front of India and being a part of a “conspiracy” to instigate violence. Later, he was shifted to the Lucknow jail.

    Sharing the historic journey of new J&K over the past three years, the Lt Governor said under the guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the city of Jammu has emerged as the centre of educational institutions. Tourism sector is scaling new height. The glorious era of film shooting has also returned to Jammu Kashmir.

    “Following the ideals of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, our endeavour is to enhance economic prosperity in rural areas and fulfill the resolution of AtmaNirbhar Jammu Kashmir,” the Lt Governor said.

    “The development and productive engagement of youth of Jammu Kashmir has been prioritized. Employment avenues in the government, corporate sector and opportunities are being provided to young boys and girls to become entrepreneurs. Since August 2019, financial assistance and requisite training has been provided to 6 lakh young boys and girls to start their business venture,” the Lt Governor added.

    Lucknow house collapse: Rescue operations end, 3rd body retrieved

    Lucknow: The rescue operations in the house collapse incident here have finally ended with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams retrieving a body of a 42-year-old woman, increasing the overall toll to three.

    Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Rajesh Srivastava, identified the body to be of Shabana Khatoon from Unnao.

    The SDRF said that from relatives they got to know that the woman was a resident of flat number 201.

    Lucknow Police Commissioner S.B. Shirodkar said that with the third body’s recovery, the last person had been traced.

    “The debris will continue to be removed. As per our information, there were 17 people inside the five-story building when it gave way and all have been brought out,” he said.

    On Wednesday morning, the rescue teams had pulled out Uzma Haider, 35, and Begum Haider, 75, the wife of senior Congress leader Amir Haider and mother of Samajwadi Party spokesperson Abbas Haider.

    Trapped for over 15 hours, both were rescued alive on Wednesday morning but died during treatment at Civil Hospital.

    An FIR was registered at Hazratganj police station on Wednesday against builder Nawajish Shahid, who is the son of SP MLA Shahid Manzoor, his cousin Mohammad Tariq and Fahad Yazdani under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 420 (fraud), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.

    The district administration said that the debris at the site of the incident was being cleared and the belonging of the residents was being handed over to them after due identification.

    Lucknow: Around a dozen people who were trapped after a four-storey residential building collapsed in Lucknow’s Hazratganj on Tuesday have been rescued and a search is on for others, officials said here.

    An Army team has also arrived at the spot, they said.

    Uttar Pradesh DGP D S Chauhan, who was at the site, said, “Around 12 people have been rescued. This is the hour of patience, not the time to rush because when you are cutting a building, it should not create any other problem. Rescue work is being carried out in a very scientific way, and I am confident that those who are trapped inside (under the debris) will be saved.” Asked what may have caused the collapse, Chauhan said, “The reasons will be known when the experts and the police carry out their investigations. As of now, as per our assumption, which is based on feedback from family members, around five-seven people are still inside (the debris).” The DGP added that the rescue operations will continue for another 12 hours.

    District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar said NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in rescue operations. “So far, 11 people have been rescued, and five more are possibly trapped. As per the clues obtained from the site of the collapse, the NDRF and SDRF teams are cutting the walls, and after cutting the walls, (trapped) people will be rescued.” “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is keeping a watch on the rescue operations. The defence minister has also given instructions. An Army team has arrived here for rescue work,” he added.

    Asked if the building collapse may have been caused by an earthquake earlier in the day, he said, “This is not the right time to deliberate on the reasons. At present, the rescue operation is going on.” He added that contact has been established with two people who are trapped under the debris and oxygen supply has been arranged for them.

    “All the people who have been rescued are safe and under stable treatment. Seven rescued people were sent to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Civil Hospital,” a police official said at the spot of the incident.

    Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who earlier talked about the death of three people in the incident, retracted his comment.

    Talking to PTI, he said there were initial reports of three people in an unconscious condition and were feared dead.

    “But now information is coming that nobody is dead. Those rescued from the building have been moved to hospitals,” Pathak said.

    “The rescue operation is going on. NDRF-SDRF personnel have arrived at the spot. Police jawans and fire brigade personnel have also arrived,” he said.

    The Lucknow DM said local people informed the authorities that some work was going on in the basement of the building.

    A 5.9-magnitude earthquake jolted the remote mountainous districts in western Nepal on Tuesday, killing one person and damaging dozens of houses in the region, Nepalese officials had said.

    Meteorological department sources here, when contacted, said that the depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometres, and its distance was 294 kilometres NNE (North North-East) from Lucknow.

    Meanwhile, Adityanath directed officials to provide adequate treatment to the injured.

    Directions have also been issued to hospitals to stay alert.

    Pathak further said that the four-storey building had around 12 flats, out of which nine had occupants.

    Many senior civil and police officials, including Principal Secretary to the chief minister Sanjay Prasad and DGP D S Chauhan are on the spot.
