J-K wanted employment, love but got BJP’s bulldozer: Rahul

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked the BJP over the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the Union Territory wanted employment, better business and love but instead got the “BJP’s bulldozer”.

Major political parties such as the Congress, the National Conference, and the PDP have voiced their concerns against the drive and demanded an immediate end to it.

The authorities have so far retrieved more than 10 lakh kanals (one kanal =605 sq yards) of land across Jammu and Kashmir after the Commissioner Secretary, Revenue department, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri directed all deputy commissioners to ensure 100 per cent removal of encroachments from the state land on January 7.

In a tweet in Hindi, Gandhi said, “Jammu and Kashmir wanted employment, better business and love, but what did they get? BJP’s Bulldozer!”

The land which the people nurtured with their hard work for many decades, is being snatched away from them, the former Congress chief said.

“Peace and Kashmiriyat will be protected by uniting, not dividing people,” he said.

Gandhi also tagged a media report which claimed that the eviction drive had caused panic in Jammu and Kashmir.

  • 62% of Indians want ChatGPT to write love letters this Valentine’s

62% of Indians want ChatGPT to write love letters this Valentine’s

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Around 62 per cent of Indians who were surveyed are planning to use the AI chatbot ChatGPT to help write their love letters this Valentine’s Day, the highest out of all the countries surveyed, with 73 per cent also using AI to boost their dating profiles, a report showed on Thursday.

With ChatGPT starting to infiltrate every aspect of our daily lives, 78 per cent of Indians surveyed were also unable to spot the difference between a love letter written by the AI chatbot and the one written by a human, according to the report by cyber-security company McAfee.

The vast majority (60 per cent) of Indian respondents preferred a machine-generated love note.

The most popular reason given for using AI as a ghost-writer was that it would make the sender feel more confident (59 per cent), others cited lack of time (32 per cent) or lack of inspiration (26 per cent), while 14 per cent said it would just be quicker and easier, believing they would not be found out.

However, 57 per cent of respondents said they would be offended if they found out the note they had received was produced by a machine.

“With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s important to stay vigilant and use security solutions that can help safeguard your privacy and identity and protect you from clicking on malicious links a scammer might send,” said Steve Grobman, McAfee Chief Technology Officer.

“It is easy to drop your guard when chatting to a potential partner but it’s important to be on alert if you’re asked suspicious requests for money or personal information,” Grobman added.

With the rise in popularity of artificial intelligence, particularly tools such as ChatGPT that anybody with a web browser can access, the chances of receiving machine-generated information are on the rise.

In fact, 76 per cent of Indians admit to being catfished — which is when somebody pretends to be someone they’re not online — or knowing somebody who has.

Additionally, 89 per cent of Indian respondents have engaged in direct conversations with strangers on social media across platforms, compared to 66 per cent globally.

“Those looking for love are often more vulnerable to scams, and cybercriminals use that to their advantage, engaging in long, sophisticated attempts to steal from their victims,” said the report.

Gujarat: School teacher dismissed after student’s ‘I love you’ claims

    [ad_1]

Rajkot: A teacher was dismissed from service after a student alleged that he had asked her to say ‘I love you’ in class. Rajkot District Education Officer B.S. Kaila terminated the service of the Maths teacher.

Kaila, while speaking to IANS, said, “On Wednesday, Karnavati School’s Class 8 girl student and her parents complained that the Maths teacher had asked her to say, ‘I love you’ in the classroom in presence of other students.

“Two education inspectors examined the CCTV footage of the Class. In the said footage, the voice is not clear. Even other students are not endorsing the girl student’s allegations against the teacher, but for the satisfaction of the student and her parents, Maths teacher Balmukund’s service has been terminated with immediate effect.”

School trustee Ashok Bhambhar, however, said, “The teacher had asked the Class 8 student to say ‘I love formula’, as she was not able to describe the formula. He had never asked the girl student to say ‘I love you’.”

  • Centre should show same kind of love it has for Adani to common people: KCR

Centre should show same kind of love it has for Adani to common people: KCR

    [ad_1]

Nanded: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday demanded Adani Group’s “scam” be discussed in a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) as he targeted the Centre over the import of coal and its “love” for Adani.

He claimed the Centre is pressuring Life Insurance Corporation to make a false statement over its exposure in the Adani Group.

The Indian banking system is involved in this problem and the whole country is worried, he alleged.

Addressing a press conference in Nanded city of Maharashtra after speaking at a public rally, Rao, who heads Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), alleged the Centre is forcing states to import coal which is supplied only by Adani Group.

The import of coal is akin to “cheating” the country, and the BRS will change this scenario after coming to power, he said.

“It is my request to the Prime Minister that Adani Group is involved in such a big scam and it should be discussed in a joint parliamentary committee. Almost Rs 10 lakh crore has been evaporated,” he alleged.

“Everyone knows he (Adani) is your friend. In just two years, he became the world’s second richest person. If you are honest, set up a joint parliamentary committee. It is my demand,” Rao said.

The BRS chief claimed the Life Insurance Corporation has an exposure of Rs 80,000 crore (in Adani Group). But to mislead the country, the Centre is pressuring LIC to make a false statement that it is not in danger”.

“LIC is the world’s largest and better-performing insurance company but why the government is intervening?” he asked.

Speaking on the coal scenario, he said India has enough reserves of coal that would last for the next 120 years but the Union government is forcing states to procure imported coal, which is only supplied by the Adani group.

“The kind of love the Centre has for Adani, it should have for the people of the country,” he said.

The Adani Group is battling allegations of fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation raised by US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research, leading to a steep fall in the prices of its shares.

The Adani group has dismissed the charges as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.

“The import of coal is cheating the country. Coal India Ltd has already stated that it has paid the required amount for the construction of a 250-km long railway track that would increase our coal production exponentially. But the Centre government is not letting it happen,” he claimed.

Rao, however, didn’t specify the railway track he was talking about.

“If we utilise all the coal fields in the country properly, we will need not have to buy a single kilogram of coal from any other country. The BRS is going to change it when it comes to power,” he said.

  • Surprised over morcha against ‘love jihad’: Shiv Sena

Surprised over morcha against ‘love jihad’: Shiv Sena

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party over right-wing groups taking out a march against “love-jihad” and questioned the need for such a protest when the “so-called Hindutvavadi government” is in power at the Centre and Maharashtra.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena said BJP plays its “trump card” whenever it feels jolts of defeat. Now they have begun the game of playing the Hindu-Muslim card, it said.

Activists of right-wing organisations on Sunday took out a ‘Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha’ in Mumbai against ‘love jihad’ and demanded anti-conversion laws and a crackdown on land grabbing in the name of religion. Leaders and workers of outfits including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) marched in the rally.

The rally, organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj, began from Shivaji Park in Dadar — where Shiv Sena Bhavan, the headquarters of the UBT faction of the party, is located.

“There is a so-called fierce Hindutvavadi government in the state as well at the Centre. Then how come your (the ones who took out the rally) Hindutva is in danger?

“With Modi-Shah at the Centre, there is a Ramrajya and this state is a heaven for Hindus this is what their (supporters of the BJP) people say. So it is surprising that there was still the ‘Aakrosh’ morcha (rally),” it said.

The Saamana further said taking out such a march would have been logical had the Muslim League been (ruling) the Centre and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) government in Maharashtra.

“If there is a question of love-jihad or forced conversion then there should be a strong law. But whenever elections are around the corner there is a talk of ‘Hindutva being in danger’ in BJP-ruled states,” it said.

If the ‘Aakrosh’ morcha was just for elections, then it is dishonesty towards Hindutva, it said.

It also took a dig at the BJP-led Centre, saying conferring Padma Vibhushan on “Maulana” Mulayam Singh, the late Samajwadi Party patriarch, is an “insult to sacrifices of thousands of karsevaks of the Ram Mandir movement”.

MP: Bajrang Dal members barge into woman’s flat alleging love jihad, friends assaulted

    [ad_1]

Birthday celebrations were ruined for a 24-year-old woman when her flat was attacked by right-wing organisation Bajrang Dal workers alleging love jihad was going on.

The incident took place in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

According to police, the woman was celebrating her birthday with her male friends. The party was suddenly interrupted by a large crowd of Bajrang Dal members, all men.

A video has surfaced where the woman is sitting with her face hidden while one of her friends was assaulted by a Bajarang Dal member.

The right-wing workers soon took the woman and her friends to the MIG police station where they forced her to lodge a complaint. But she refused.

While speaking to reporters sub-inspector Seema Sharma refused to comment on love jihad or religious angle and added that investigations are underway.

“The woman was celebrating her birthday with her male friends. I can’t comment on if there is a religious angle as investigations are still on. There is no complaint lodged by the woman,” the police officer told reporters.

Hindutva bodies organise morcha against ‘love Jihad’, illegal conversions in Pune

    [ad_1]

Pune: Various Hindutva bodies under the aegis of Sakal Hindu Samaj on Sunday took out a protest march in Maharashtra’s Pune city against “love jihad”, illegal conversions and cow slaughter.

The ‘Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha’ started at the historical Lal Mahal and culminated at the statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Deccan area, a distance of about 5 km.

The morcha organisers demanded the death anniversary of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, be declared as ‘Balidan Din’ (Martyr’s Day).

Sambhaji Maharaj was tortured to death on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangazeb in 1689.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Shivendra Raje Bhosale, his counterpart from Hyderabad, T Raja Singh, and several political leaders joined the rally.

“Cases of love jihad, illegal conversions, cow slaughter etc have increased in the country. I demand the state government, as well as the Centre, bring a law against love Jihad,” Singh said.

“Love jihad” is a term often used by right-wing activists to allege a ploy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into religious conversion through marriage.

Singh said he is a follower of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

“Politicians should stop doing politics over Sambhaji Maharaj. Those who are doing politics on this topic, I ask people to boycott such leaders,” he said without taking any names.

Earlier this month, the BJP held protests across Maharashtra against Opposition leader Ajit Pawar, who belongs to NCP, over his remark on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Pawar had told the Legislative Assembly that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was a “swarajya rakshak” and it is incorrect on part of some people to call him “dharmaveer”.

Shivendra Raje Bhosale, who represents the Satara assembly constituency, said, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the pioneer of the Swarajya movement which also included protecting the religion. So far what we have read in the history is Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was a dharmaveer”.

Over the moon! Buzz Aldrin marries ‘long-time love’ on his 93rd birthday

    [ad_1]

Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, has announced that he got married to his long-term partner on his 93rd birthday.

The retired astronaut celebrated his birthday on Friday and said on Twitter that he “tied the knot” with Dr Anca Faur, 63, in a small ceremony in Los Angeles.

He told his followers that the couple were as “excited as eloping teenagers” and shared two photos from the wedding.

Aldrin wrote: “On my 93rd birthday and the day I will also be honoured by Living Legends of Aviation, I am pleased to announce that my long-time love Dr Anca Faur and I have tied the knot.

“We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles and are as excited as eloping teenagers.”

    — Dr. Buzz Aldrin (@TheRealBuzz) January 21, 2023

Faur has worked as executive vice-president of Buzz Aldrin Ventures since 2019, according to her LinkedIn page.

Aldrin posted two pictures from the ceremony on Twitter, showing himself dressed in a suit, decorated with a medal and an Air Force badge, alongside Faur in a lace dress.

Aldrin has been married and divorced three times. He married Joan Ann Archer in 1954 and the couple were together for 20 years before divorcing. He was married to Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978, and Lois Driggs Cannon between 1988 and 2012.

He has three children – James, Janice and Andrew – with Joan Ann, one grandson, three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Aldrin became a household name around the world after taking part in the Apollo 11 lunar mission to the moon in July 1969 with fellow astronauts Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins.

Speaking in 2009, he said: “[People] want us in a few words to generate the enthusiasm that the world had as they contemplated what we were about to do.

“Well, what it felt like is something that we trained for. We were trying to treat it as calmly as we could and perform to the best of our ability.”

He became the second man to set foot on the moon and is the last of the three still alive today. Aldrin retired from Nasa in July 1971 and went on to serve as commandant of the Aerospace Research Pilot School at Edwards air force base in California.
