Hillary Clinton loses her Twitter verification badge

    [ad_1]

Hillary Clinton’s Twitter verification badge has been removed, with no official statement from Twitter or Clinton on the matter. The move comes after the rollout of Twitter’s paid verification system, which has sparked controversy among users of the platform.

Twitter’s verification badge is a coveted symbol of credibility and authenticity on the platform. It is meant to identify accounts belonging to public figures, journalists, and other notable individuals. However, Twitter has faced criticism for its inconsistent and opaque verification process in the past.

To address this, Twitter recently introduced a paid verification system, which allows users to apply for a verification badge for a fee. However, this move has been met with skepticism by some, who believe that it will only exacerbate existing inequalities on the platform.

Amid the controversy, the verification badge of Hillary Clinton, a former First Lady, Secretary of State, and presidential candidate, was removed. Clinton’s account has been verified since 2015, indicating that Twitter had confirmed her identity and the authenticity of her account.

The reason for the removal of Clinton’s verification badge remains unknown, leading to speculation among Twitter users about the motives behind the move.

The news of Hillary Clinton’s verification badge being removed on Twitter quickly spread, generating mixed responses from users of the platform.

  • Air Force unit in document leaks case loses intel mission

Air Force unit in document leaks case loses intel mission

    [ad_1]

    leaked documents investigation 94985

The leaks have raised questions as to how a single airman could have removed so many documents without being detected, why there were not safety checks in place and how the documents could have lingered online undetected for months.

“How could this guardsman take this information and distribute it electronically for weeks, if not months, and nobody knew about it?” Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of Montana asked the Air Force leaders testifying before a Senate defense appropriations subcommittee.

These are questions the Air Force is asking, too. For top secret information across the military, there’s supposed to be accountable control officers who are responsible for recording active top secret documents and ensuring they have been either properly secured or disposed of, such as through a shredder or by burning them.

Pending further review, “The 102nd Intelligence Wing is not currently performing its assigned intelligence mission. The mission has been temporarily reassigned to other organizations within the Air Force,” the service said in a statement to The Associated Press.

In addition, the Air Force is conducting a service-wide review of how each command handles classified information, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. C.Q. Brown told members of subcommittee.

The Air Force’s own reviews are on top of a military-wide review directed on Monday by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Austin has ordered that all military facilities that handle classified information report to him within 45 days on how they access, share, store and destroy the nation’s secrets following the leaks.

The leaked documents exposed to the world unvarnished secret assessments on the war in Ukraine, the capabilities and geopolitical interests of other nations and other national security issues.

Teixeira posted the highly classified material in a geopolitical chat room on Discord, a social media platform that started as a hangout for gamers.

“He had access to some aspects based on his job as a cyber administrator. He took advantage of that access,” Brown said.

  • Maulana Azad loses place in NCERT textbook

Maulana Azad loses place in NCERT textbook

    [ad_1]

India’s first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, has lost a place in the revised political science textbook published by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

In the old Class 11 NCERT political science textbook, ‘Indian Constitution at Work’, Azad’s reference appeared in the first chapter ‘Constitution — Why and How?’.

A paragraph in the chapter read, “The Constituent Assembly had eight major Committees on different subjects. Usually, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad or Ambedkar chaired these Committees. These were not men who agreed with each other on many things. Ambedkar had been a bitter critic of the Congress and Gandhi, accusing them of not doing enough for the upliftment of Scheduled Castes. Patel and Nehru disagreed on many issues. Nevertheless, they all worked together.”

    MS Education Academy

However, the revised textbook paragraph reads, ‘Usually, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Patel or B.R. Ambedkar chaired these Committees.’

This change omitted the significant contribution of Maulana Azad to India’s constitution drafting process.

Maulana Azad’s role in India’s independence

Azad played a crucial role in the elections for the new Constituent Assembly of India that drafted India’s constitution. In the election, he led the Congress and was an essential member of the assembly.

As Congress president, he led the delegation to negotiate with the British Cabinet Mission. Despite growing hostility from Jinnah, who described him as the “Muslim Lord Haw-Haw” and a “Congress Showboy,” Azad remained committed to Hindu-Muslim unity.

After Independence, Azad remained a close confidante, supporter, and advisor to prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. As India’s first Minister of Education, he emphasized educating the rural poor and girls.

Jammu and Kashmir’s conditional accession dropped

Besides Azad’s removal, the reference of Jammu and Kashmir’s conditional accession has also been dropped in the tenth chapter of NCERT textbook, ‘Indian Constitution at Work’.

The paragraph ‘For example, the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to the Indian union was based on a commitment to safeguard its autonomy under Article 370 of the Constitution.’ has been deleted.

New York Times loses Twitter Blue badge, receives Koo’s invite

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Elon Musk-run Twitter on Sunday removed the Blue badge of The New York Times, barely a week after he announced a new policy for keeping verification badges.

On the other hand, Aprameya Radhakrishna, CEO and Co-founder of Koo, has invited leading US newspaper and all other news organisations around the world to join the platform.

“Inviting @nytimes and all other news organisations around the world to join Koo where there is no price for your voice. Koo provides free lifetime verification for all notable personalities and organisations. Fake news is a menace around the world,” he tweeted.

    MS Education Academy

Moreover, commenting on the removal of The New York Times‘ Blue Badge, Musk tweeted: “The real tragedy of @NYTimes is that their propaganda isn’t even interesting”.

“Also, their feed is the Twitter equivalent of diarrhoea. It’s unreadable. They would have far more real followers if they only posted their top articles. Same applies to all publications,” he added.

Twitter’s ‘Verification for Organisations’ service is now available globally.

The platform last month tweeted from its ‘Twitter Verified’ account: “Verified Organisations are available globally. We are now sending email invitations to approved organisations from the waitlist.”

The company also announced to remove all legacy Blue verified checkmarks for both individual users and organisations from April 1.

Twitter Blue is now available globally and users can get Blue Verified for $7 a month if they sign up via a web browser.

  • TN: BJP in soup as it loses 13 of its leaders to alliance partner AIADMK

TN: BJP in soup as it loses 13 of its leaders to alliance partner AIADMK

    [ad_1]

Chennai: A total of 13 functionaries from Tamil Nadu’s BJP on Wednesday quit the party to join its alliance partner the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

The 13 belonged to the BJP’s IT wing in Chennai West.

The development comes as the State unit of the BJP accused the Edappadi Palaniswami-led AIADMK of allegedly “poaching” its leaders.

BJP IT Wing District president Anbarasan in a statement said, “I have worked for BJP for years. People know that I have never expected any position. Considering the unusual scenario in the party for the past few days I have decided to resign from the party.”

The statement bears the signatures of 10 IT Wing District Secretaries and two IT Wing District Deputy Secretaries.

Several BJP MLAs have resigned and joined AIADMK recently.

On Tuesday, BJP Intellectual Wing State Secretary Krishnan, IT wing State secretary Dileep Kannan, Trichy Rural District Vice President Vijay and State OBC Wing Secretary Ammu joined AIADMK after meeting with Edappadi K Palaniswami.

This came just days after the exit of BJP State IT Wing Chief Nirmal Kumar to AIADMK who quit the party levelling serious allegations against Annamalai.

Similarly, IT Wing State Secretary Krishnan also resigned from BJP blaming Annamalai. This has sparked a war of words on social media between supporters of AIADMK and the BJP.

BJP functionaries raised questions about how Edappadi Palaniswami can welcome them with a smile by being an alliance partner.

In one such Twitter post, BJP Sports and Skill Development State President Amar Prasad Reddy mentioned “AIADMK being an alliance partner shouldn’t have done this”.

Meanwhile, earlier Annamalai told ANI, “Some four BJP leaders have joined, it’s an unfortunate state in Tamil Nadu where Dravidian politicians who think that they run big parties want to poach from BJP and grow their party. That only shows BJP is growing”.

Reacting to Annamalai’s comments AIADMK IT Wing Secretary Singai Ramachandran retorted on Twitter, “Once BJP was getting votes lesser than NOTA. In the 2021 election, how BJP MLAs won the election is the answer for this (AIADMK – BJP faced the election as allies). AIADMK is the organization which won the election single-handedly. It is only a joke to say to develop AIADMK, BJP persons are needed”.

Even during the Erode East bypoll, there was a war of words between AIADMK and BJP with AIADMK passing comments saying the BJP doesn’t have a role in inter-party issues. Now once again it has become debatable.

  • EX-ISIS bride loses appeal to regain her British citizenship

EX-ISIS bride loses appeal to regain her British citizenship

    [ad_1]

London: A Bangladeshi-origin British woman, who fled the UK as a 15-year-old schoolgirl to join the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist network, on Wednesday lost a legal bid before a specialist tribunal to regain her British citizenship and return to the country.

Now aged 23, London-born Shamima Begum had challenged then Home Secretary Sajid Javid’s decision to revoke her British citizenship on national security grounds in 2019 at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC).

Justice Robert Jay ruled that concerns raised by her lawyers over her “sexual exploitation” and breaches of duty by certain state bodies did not trump the home secretary’s legal duty to make a national security decision to strip Begum of her British nationality.

“There is some merit in the argument that those advising the secretary of state see this as a black and white issue, when many would say that there are shades of grey,” said Justice Jay.

“In my mind and that of colleagues, it is not conceivable that even a 15-year-old… an intelligent, articulate and presumably critically thinking individual – would not know what (ISIS) was about. In some respects, I do believe she knew what she was doing and had agency in doing so,” the judgment notes.

The British government has claimed Begum could seek a Bangladeshi passport given her heritage but her family has argued that she is British and has never held Bangladeshi citizenship.

The specialist tribunal accepted that Javid’s conclusion to revoke her British citizenship was “an integral part of the overall national security assessment carried out by the Security Service” and therefore not a matter for the court.

“If asked to evaluate all the circumstances of Begum’s case, reasonable people with knowledge of all the relevant evidence will differ, in particular in relation to the issue of the extent to which her travel to Syria was voluntary and the weight to be given to that factor in the context of all others,” notes Justice Jay.

“Likewise, reasonable people will differ as to the threat she posed in February 2019 to the national security of the United Kingdom, and as to how that threat should be balanced against all countervailing considerations. However, under our constitutional settlement these sensitive issues are for the secretary of state to evaluate and not for the Commission,” he said.

Begum, referred to as an ISIS bride for marrying a Dutch member of the terror network in Syria, gave birth to three children – all of whom later died. She and two fellow teenage schoolgirls at Bethnal Green Academy travelled from east London to Syria in 2015.

At a five-day SIAC hearing in November last year, Begum’s lawyers said that she was “recruited, transported, transferred, harboured and received in Syria for the purposes of ‘sexual exploitation’ and ‘marriage’ to an adult male”.

Justice Jay found that there was “credible suspicion” Begum was a victim of trafficking to Syria.

“The motive of bringing her to Syria was sexual exploitation for which, as a child, she could not give valid consent,” he said, during a brief hearing on Wednesday.

However, the commission ultimately concluded the home secretary was not formally required to consider whether Begum was a victim of trafficking when he removed her citizenship.

The UK Home Office welcomed the ruling and said in a statement: “We are pleased that the court has found in favour of the government’s position in this case.

“The government’s priority remains maintaining the safety and security of the UK and we will robustly defend any decision made in doing so.” Last year, the UK Supreme Court upheld the decision to bar the now 23-year-old from returning to the UK. Begum currently lives in a detention camp in northern Syria and has been fighting to return to her home in east London, claiming the only law she broke was to travel to Syria and had not participated in any ISIS atrocities.

Her legal team has indicated plans to mount further challenges to restore her British citizenship.
