Rajamundry: Andhra Pradesh is the lone state in India that has managed to reduce taxes on several local products through the Goods and Service Tax Council, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath said on Thursday.
He said AP succeeded in waiving taxes, ushering reforms and reducing and correcting taxes on several products such as mangoes, mango pulp, extra-neutral alcohol and other items.
“After extensive deliberation and research, we succeeded in waiving tax on tamarind (chintapandu), an essential ingredient for cooking food,” said Rajendranath in a press release shared by the state government.
He said the government had received petitions for excluding tamarind from GST from Chittoor and Anantapur districts.
The finance minister observed that even the British government during colonial times had introduced a “Tamarind Tree Law”, which mandated that no such tree should be felled without the permission of the district collector, considering the crucial nature of this ingredient in cooking food.
Rajendranath noted that the tax was waived on reasoning with the Central government about the ubiquitous nature of tamarind, including reminding it of a colonial precedent of exempting the sour spice from taxation.
Some conservatives have warned each other not to protest Trump’s indictment, citing a conspiracy theory that January 6 was orchestrated by Democrats.

“Where do I start, who in the world supports Donald Trump?” said Lucy Wright, 56, a divorce attorney from Chattanooga, who said she was seriously contemplating extending her vacation in New York so she could take part in anti-Trump protests on Tuesday.
“I would be perfectly fine to be thrown in jail for assault, just to grab his [Trump’s] balls once, if he can grab our pussies, I would grab his balls,” she said referring to the infamous remark Trump made in 2005 that was released during the presidential election in 2016.
The scattered pockets of political tension outside the building were small manifestations of larger discussions online surrounding the former president’s imminent arrest.
Trump predicted “death and destruction” if he were to face criminal charges in a post on Truth Social.
Rep. Greene took up the call after a Manhattan grand jury voted Thursday to indict Trump.
“New York put your MAGA hats on. Under our constitutional rights, we WILL support President Trump and protest the tyrants,” said Greene in a tweet Friday. “I’ll see you on Tuesday.”
Threats of violence and protest filled conservative websites as well. On the far-right chat site patriots.win, once TheDonald.win — a site which lawmakers said played a significant role in organizing January 6 — users called for a “nationwide strike” and for “all patriots” to “bring society to a halt.”
The indictment of Donald Trump was the top section in the chat site on Saturday, with users saying they planned to arrive in New York Tuesday.
The NYPD is preparing for potential unrest, by potentially blocking off the streets around the lower Manhattan courthouse and removing all cars in the case of a bomb threat, a law enforcement officer told POLITICO last week. The former president plans to arrive via motorcade, that officer said.

SRINAGAR: J&K People’s Conference President Sajad Gani Lone today termed the practice of blacklisting contractors on the basis of reports from agencies as being discriminatory and inherently biased.
He asserted that such a practice can have significant consequences for individuals who are already marginalized, particularly those who are trying to reintegrate into society following a conflict.
“The blacklisting of contractors on the basis of reports from covert agencies is discriminatory and inherently biased. In a conflict what would the golden concept of reintegration mean if a person is barred from almost all forms of economic activity”, Lone tweeted on the matter.
Lone further stated that this practice can create significant challenges for individuals who are trying to earn a livelihood and support themselves and their families.
“Honestly. It is baffling. What is a supposedly ex militant, or ex sympathizer, or relative of the either variety supposed to do. How will they earn their livelihood? Talk of scripting a disaster. Alas by the time disaster hits all these officers will have retired”, he added.

Srinagar, Mar 7 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference on Tuesday held a provincial meeting at its party headquarters in Srinagar.
The meeting was organised by the Provincial Committee headed by Provincial President Mohammad Khurshid Alam and attended by senior leadership, members of the youth wing, women’s wing and student wing of the party. In the course of the meeting, the leaders deliberated on a host of issues concerning the people of J&K and subsequently adopted a resolution.
The PC leaders stressed that the need of the hour is for the party workers to fan out across J&K to reach out and interact with the people at every level.
“It is at this time of need, when the people of J&K are feeling isolated and alienated, that political forces must extensively reach out to the people to fill the void”, the leaders emphasized during the meeting, as per a statement issued to GNS.
The leaders once again appealed to the J&K administration to stop needling the people of J&K on every issue and let them live in peace.
“Not a day goes by when there is not some new sinister experiment by this administration. The people of J&K have gone through a lot of turmoil. It is perhaps the only place in India which does not have a popular government”, the leadership noted.
PC leaders also expressed their grave apprehensions about the short listing of recruitment company Aptech by the SSRB. They implored upon the administration to stop playing with the future of the youth of J&K and spare them of any further experimentation.
“If APTECH is blacklisted by seven states, how can the J & K administration actually have the audacity to hire the same company? Even any transparent selection in the future will be tarnished because of a tarnished recruitment agency”, the statement added. (GNS)
SRINAGAR: Accusing the Jammu & Kashmir administration of creating homelessness, Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone on Monday said that “New Delhi shouldn’t be represented by bulldozers in Kashmir, but by love and compassion.”
Addressing a news conference here, as per news agency KNO Lone said the objective of the ongoing eviction drive seems humiliation of Kashmiris.
“What is the objective of the government? Do they want to retrieve land or humiliate people? I think humiliation is more important for them,” he said.
Lone said that the current administration in J&K is not an elected regime and should leave bigger decisions for an elected government.
“(President’s Rule) It is a temporary arrangement. They cannot take decisions on behalf of the people of J&K. They cannot take all decisions. They are not elected by the people,” Lone told reporters here.
Lone, who was flanked by senior PC leaders Peerzada Mansoor Hussain and Muhammad Ashraf Mir, said that the J & K administration is inventing homelessness by razing down homes of poor people. “They are not giving any notice. The law of the land cannot be violated,” he said, adding that only poor are suffering due to the ongoing eviction drive in J&K.
“I want to ask my Prime Minister who is the Prime Minister of poor people whose houses are demolished. Where will poor people go?” he asked.
New Delhi: Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and outlawed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had made hand grenades available to their sympathisers and conspired with them to carry out “lone wolf” attacks and blasts in Hyderabad City, the First Information Report (FIR) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed.
The FIR, registered on January 25, against three Hyderabad residents also pointed out that the accused persons booked by the Central agency were instructed to hurl hand grandes at public gatherings and processions in order to create communal tension.
The Pakistan-based handlers had given the task to one Abdul Zahed alias Zahed alias Mohammad, who was accused in several terror-related cases in Hyderabad, the FIR mentioned informing that Zahed had recruited several youths namely Maaz, Samiuddin and others on the directions the ISI and LeT.
Besides Zahed, the NIA also booked Maaz Hasan Farooq and Samiuddin for conspiring terror attacks in Hyderabad in October 2022, who have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
As per the FIR, Zahed on the instructions of his Pakistani handlers, conspired with his gang members to carry out terror acts including blasts and lone-wolf attacks in Hyderabad City to create terror in the minds of the common people.
“It was also learnt that Zahed had received hand grenades from Pakistan-based handlers and was planning to hurl at public gatherings and processions in order to create communal tension,” the FIR stated.
The Hyderabad Police had registered a case on October 1, 2022 under the charges of UAPA after it seized two hand grenades, two mobile phones and Rs 3,91, 800 from the premises of Zahed.
Considering the gravity of the case, the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalisation Division handed over the case to the NIA as the case had inter-state and international linkages.
