SRINAGAR: The Centre on Wednesday said out of the total 272 km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, 161 km has already been commissioned, while Rs 26,786 Crore expenditure has been incurred till March 2022 out of the anticipated cost of Rs 37,012 Crore.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said that 272 km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail link (USBRL) project was sanctioned in 1994-95.
He said the anticipated cost of the project is Rs 37,012/- crore, against which, expenditure of Rs 26,786 crore has been incurred up to March, 2022 on the project.
“Out of the total 272 km length of the USBRL project, a length of 161 Km has already been commissioned. Work on the balance stretch of Katra-Banihal section of 111 Km has been taken up,” he said.
He also said the completion of any Railway projects depends on various factors like quick land acquisition by State Government, forest clearance by officials of forest department, deposition of cost by State Government in Cost sharing projects, shifting of infringing utilities, statutory clearances from various authorities, geological and topographical conditions of area, law and order situation in the area of projects site, number of working months in a year for particular project site due to climatic considerations etc. “All these factors affect the completion time of the projects.”
On whether the government is likely to increase the number of trains deployed to Kashmir with the completion of USBRL project, he said at present, 19 passenger special train services are running on Baramulla-Budgam-Banihal section of USBRL Project. Moreover, introduction of new train services or extension of existing train services is an ongoing process over Indian Railways subject to traffic demand, operational feasibility and availability of rolling stock.
On whether the government is proposing to provide transport linkages to tourist destinations nearby the USB rail link, the minister said the new line projects are considered on the basis of demands raised by State Governments, Central Ministries, Member of Parliament, other public representatives and Railways’ own requirements. “As receipt of such proposals is a continuous and ongoing process, centralized compendium of such requests is not maintained.”
He added the proposals are taken up on the basis of remunerativeness, last mile connectivity, augmentation of congested/saturated lines, socioeconomic considerations, missing links and alternate routes including connectivity to tourist destinations etc., depending upon liabilities of ongoing projects, overall availability of funds and competing demands which is a continuous and ongoing process. WhatsApp rolling out tweaked link preview interface on iOS beta

San Francisco: Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is rolling out a tweaked link preview interface on iOS beta.
For beta testers, a new row will now appear above the chat bar when a link is entered into the platform, and the application will animate the row while loading the link preview, reports WABetaInfo.
Earlier, users had no indication whether the platform was loading the preview or not, which undoubtedly caused confusion and wasted time while they waited for it to arrive.
The tweaked interface when loading a link preview is available for some beta testers that install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and is expected to roll out to more people over the coming days, the report said.
Meanwhile, last week, it was reported that the messaging platform was rolling out a new feature for some beta testers on Android and iOS which allows users to see a list of groups they have in common with the contact they are searching for.

PAN Aadhaar Link Status: A permanent account number (PAN) is a ten-character alphanumeric identifier, issued in the form of a laminated “PAN card”, by the Indian Income Tax Department, to any person who applies for it or to whom the department allots the number without an application.
A PAN is a unique identifier issued to all judicial entities identifiable under the Indian Income Tax Act,^{1961. The income tax PAN and its linked card are issued under Section 139A of the Income Tax Act. It is issued by the Indian Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board for Direct Taxes (CBDT) and it also serves as an important proof of identification.}
Linking your PAN card with Aadhaar has been made mandatory for certain services, such as filing your income tax returns. As per a recent notification from the government, the last date to link PAN with Aadhaar is 31 March 2023. Earlier, the last date was 31 March 2022.

However, fines will have to be paid in case the PAN and Aadhaar are linked after 31 March 2022. The fine is Rs.500 if the linking is done between 1 April 2022 and 30 June 2022. The penalty is Rs.1,000 if the linking is done between 1 July 2022 and 31 March 2023.

- Step 2: On the e-Filing Portal homepage, go to ‘Quick Links’ and click on Link Aadhaar Status.
- Step 3: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar Number, and click on View Link Aadhaar Status.
On successful validation, a message will be displayed regarding your Link Aadhaar Status.
If the Aadhaar-Pan link is in progress, then the below message will appear on the screen;
Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Please check the status later by clicking on ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ link on Home Page

If the Aadhaar PAN linking is successful, then it will display the following message;
You PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar
- Step 1a: After login in to the e-Filing Portal homepage, go to your Dashboard and click on Link Aadhaar Status.
- Step 1b: Alternatively, you can go to My Profile > Link Aadhaar Status.

If the validation fails, click on Link Aadhaar on the Status page, and you will need to repeat the steps to link your PAN and Aadhaar.
If your request to link PAN and Aadhaar is pending with UIDAI for validation, you will need to check the status later.
