The weather would unlikely improve by the end of this month as the weatherman here has predicted more rains with cloudy weather conditions till March 30.
Deputy Director, Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told the news agency—KNO that there is a possibility of wet weather conditions till the end of March.
He said that the western would remain generally cloudy tomorrow while on March 23-24, there is a possibility of intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places during the evening of March 23-March 24 forenoon.
Deputy Director MeT further said that from March 25-28, the weather would remain partly cloudy while on March 29-30, there is a possibility of intermittent rain towards evening.
Pertinently, Kashmir received intermittent light rainfall from Sunday afternoon, bringing down the mercury in the Valley.
SRINAGAR: Amid forecast for isolated light rain and thunderstorm in the next 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded a drop at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Quoting a meteorological department, GNS reported that isolated to scattered light rain and thunderstorm was expected during the subsequent two days.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.6°C against 7.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.9°C above normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 5.4°C against 6.0°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 0.1°C against 2.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.2°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.8°C against 4.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.3°C above normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against minus 0.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.3°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 3.6°C against 3.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 13.1°C against 14.7°C on the previous night. It was 1.8°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 4.8°C (below normal by 0.1°C), Batote 6.5°C (below normal by 0.2°C), Katra 11.6°C (1.0°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 7.0°C (3.1°C above normal).
Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.0°C and minus 2.4°C respectively.

SRINAGAR: Generally cloudy weather with light rain has been forecast at isolated to scattered places in Kashmir Valley in next 24 hours.
Quoting a meteorological department official, GNS reported that generally cloudy weather is expected from March 21-22.
From March 23 to 25, he said, generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places was expected. From March 26 to 28, he said, partly cloudy weather was expected.
He said Srinagar received 0.2mm of rain in 24 hours till 0830 hours, Qazigund 15.0mm, Pahalgam 0.5mm, Kupwara 0.7mm, Kokernag 19.8mm, Gulmarag 1.6mm, Jammu traces, Banihal 33.2m, Batote 2.4mm, Katra 4.4mm and Bhaderwah 0.8mm.

SRINAGAR: The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Friday visited District Ganderbal where he convened a meeting of officers at VC room, DC Office Ganderbal for managing opening/closure of the Zojila Pass.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Shyambir, SSP Ganderbal, Nikhil Borkar, SSP Traffic Rural, ADC Ganderbal, CEO Sonamarg Development Authority, ACR, ARTO Ganderbal, officials from MeT/BRO, besides the meeting was also attended by Div Com Ladakh, DC Kargil, SSP Kargil, and officials from Vijayak through Video Conferencing.
At the outset, all the issues concerning the road opening were discussed threadbare including condition of road, Snow clearance, and it was decided that the road will only be open for the LGVs (Light Goods Vehicles) (One-Way), and no passenger/tourist vehicle shall be allowed.
The road opening date was decided to be 18th March, 2023 from Sonamarg to Kargil and cut off timing for vehicles to cross Sonamarg will be 6.00 am in the morning and from Meenamarg, Kargil the cut-off timing shall be 8.30 am. Besides, it was decided that traffic will be allowed only on alternate days.
It was also decided in the meeting that on Fridays no traffic will be allowed, and road will be closed for maintenance purposes.
Div Com Kashmir directed the concerned to follow the already framed SOPs in likewise manner. He also directed the officials from MeT for the advance forecast of the weather, and asked the Traffic dept for issuing the same weather advisories on time. The BRO authorities were also directed to give road clearance on time so that traffic will cross the road before the avalanche prone timing.
Regarding the availability of machinery on Zojila road stretch, Mechanical engineering department was directed to provide one recovery van, and CEO SDA was directed to provide accommodation centre in case of any emergency enroute the Srinagar Sonamarg Gumri Road.
Regarding the deployment of SDRF Personnel, the SSP Ganderbal informed the Div Com Kashmir that the SDRF Platoon already stationed at Gund will be shifted to Sonamarg.
The Div Com also directed the concerned for operationalization of the weighing bridge at Sonmarg and ensuring that the weight of the vehicles bound to Ladakh has been done positively well before one day.
He also directed for establishing the Joint Control Room of Traffic/ Civil/ Police/ MED.
Div Com Kargil impressed upon the concerned that people should be made aware about the fact that the road will only be thrown open for the LGV (light goods vehicle) and no passenger/tourist vehicleshall be allowed. He also asked the concerned to issue a circular for carrying chains on vehicles mandatory.
Earlier, Div com Kashmir visited Transit Accommodation Wandhama and reviewed the readiness of the apartments being constructed for the Kashmiri Migrant employees.
On the occasion he was informed that 4 out of 12 apartments are ready having 16 flats each, and, 4 out of the remaining 8 will be completed by June, 2023.(KNO)
