Saudi seeks to have 3 cities in top 100 global cities for ‘quality of life’

    [ad_1]

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is working to reach the classification of three of its cities ranked among the top 100 global cities for quality of life, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

This was announced by the Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing Majed Al-Hogail, during the forum “National Transformation: A Reality We Live In,” which is being held in Riyadh.

Majed Al-Hogail affirmed the steady progress of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to become one of the 17 largest economies in the world, with plans to soon break into the top 15 economies.

As part of the country’s Vision 2030 plan, Saudi Arabia aims to receive 100 million visitors by 2030. This requires a comprehensive and integrated infrastructure to receive visitors, according to Al-Hogail.

To achieve this goal, the ministry focuses on creating an environment for accepting investments and investors, humanizing cities, and at the same time improving the quality of life within the framework of the national transformation program.

In addition, the ministry is to provide a suitable environment for housing in cities, to promote the concept of quality of life, and to facilitate access to high-quality services, along with the development of infrastructure.

UP: Four men get life imprisonment for gang-raping Dalit girl

    [ad_1]

Ghaziabad: A local court Monday sentenced four men to life imprisonment for gang-raping a Dalit girl around 16 years ago.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of the four convicts and Rs 10,000 on each of the two women who had connived with them, said additional joint director prosecution Anil Upadhyay.

Half of the fine amount would be paid to the family of the rape victim, he said.

The incident took place on April 27, 2007. The two women had taken the girl to a village on the pretext of providing her with a job at a shop in the fair being held there. Late in the night, they sent the girl to fetch water from a hand pump where the four convicts raped her.

The girl, upon reaching home, narrated her ordeal to her parents following which a police complaint was lodged, Upadhyay said.

  • Division Bench Affirms Life Imprisonment Of Militant

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court’s Division Bench, consisting of Justice Rajnesh Oswal and Justice Mohan Lal, has affirmed the life imprisonment sentence given by Additional Sessions Judge Handwara to militant Mushtaq Ahmad Malla.

As per the prosecution’s version of events, on 22.12.2005, the Handwara Police Station received information that two militants, one of whom was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Malla, the son of Ghulam Ahmad Malla from Shotgund, had shot and killed Tariq Ahmad Malik, the son of Abdul Qayoom Malik from Guloora, indiscriminately at Adoura, leaving his corpse at the scene.

Upon receiving this information, First Information Report (FIR) No. 337/2005 was filed for the alleged offenses under Sections 302 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and Section 7/27 of the Arms Act. Following the conclusion of the investigation, the accused was presented with a challan and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment on December 31, 2021. After hearing arguments from both parties, the Division Bench (DB) noted that the trial court had considered and addressed all of the accused-appellant’s concerns following the law, citing various judgments from the Apex Court.

“The trial court, though it convicted the appellant for the commission of an offense punishable under Section 7/27 of the Arms Act, rightly did not sentence him for the punishment prescribed under Sub Section 3 of Section 27 of the Arms Act because the Apex Court has declared the Sub Section 3 of Section 27 of Arms Act as unconstitutional,” the DB stated. Furthermore, the DB noted, “the trial court has sentenced the appellant to undergo imprisonment for life after holding him guilty of the offense punishable under Section 302 of the RPC, and we do not find that the sentence of life imprisonment awarded to the appellant is disproportionate to the offense committed by him, particularly when Section 302 RPC provides punishment of either death penalty or imprisonment for life.”

“We also find that the trial court has rightly convicted the appellant for the commission of the offense under Section 201 of the RPC, particularly when there was direct evidence regarding the killing of the deceased by the appellant by gun and subsequently running away from the appellant from the place of occurrence with a gun,” the DB added. The DB concluded by stating, “we do not find any illegality or infirmity in the judgment of conviction and order of sentence dated 31.12.2021 passed by the trial court.”

Video: Timely CPR saves Hyderabad man’s life who suffered heart attack

    [ad_1]

Timely intervention by a physician at Help Hand Foundation’s Primary Health Care Center located in Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad saved a man who suffered a heart attack.

The man, aged 35 years, had collapsed due to cardiac arrest. At the center, the physician performed Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and saved his life. He was also administered adrenaline with oxygen support.

Later, the patient was immediately shifted to Osmania General Hospital in 108 ambulance.

Earlier Hyderabad police saved man’s life

It is not the first incident. Earlier too, a Hyderabad cop saved a man’s life who suddenly collapsed at the Aramghar Chowrastha.

In the video that went viral after the incident, the constable, Rajashekhar who works at the Rajendranagar Police Station was seen conducting a CPR process on the man.

Another cop saved a man’s life by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him in the Bhupalpally district.

The incidents prove that CPR is a simple, yet effective technique that can be used to save lives in emergencies such as heart attacks, drowning, or choking. Knowing CPR can make all the difference in an emergency, and it is a valuable skill that everyone should learn.

Incidents of cardiac arrest in Telangana

In the past few days, many incident of cardiac arrests took place in Telangana.

Recently, a 19-year-old boy died in the Adilabad district while dancing at a marriage function, and another young person collapsed while playing badminton and never recovered.

Last week, an 18-year-old first-year engineering student at CMR Engineering College, located in the Gundla Pochampally municipal limits, died due to cardiac arrest.

The deceased who is identified as Sachin collapsed suddenly while walking in the corridor on the campus. Though he was rushed to CMR Hospital, doctors declared him dead.

  • AI may help find life on Mars, icy worlds

AI may help find life on Mars, icy worlds

    [ad_1]

New York: Artificial intelligence (AI) may help scientists find the exact place to look for while finding life on Mars and other icy worlds, a new study has suggested.

A team of astrobiologists developed an AI model and tested its ability to look out for sparse life hidden away in salt domes, rocks and crystals at Salar de Pajonales at the boundary of the Chilean Atacama Desert and Altiplano — one of the driest places on the planet, resembling the features of a Martian surface.

Pajonales is a high altitude (3,541 m), high U/V, hyperarid, dry salt lakebed, considered inhospitable to many life forms but still habitable.

The results, reported in the journal Nature Astronomy, showed that the AI model helped scientists locate and detect biosignatures — any feature which provides evidence of past or present life — up to 87.5 per cent of the time.

It also substantially reduced the area — by up to 97 per cent — the team needed to search, signalling the efficacy of the AI model to one day detect signs of life on other planets.

Currently, researchers have limited opportunities to collect samples on Mars or elsewhere or access remote sensing instruments when hunting for life beyond Earth. The new AI model will help scientists’ with the exact place to look for while finding life on other worlds.

“We hope other astrobiology teams adapt our approach to mapping other habitable environments and biosignatures,” said lead researcher Kim Warren-Rhodes, Senior Research Scientist at SETI Institute.

“With these models, we can design tailor-made roadmaps and algorithms to guide rovers to places with the highest probability of harbouring past or present life — no matter how hidden or rare,” Warren-Rhodes added.

The team, including from the NASA Astrobiology Institute (NAI), collected over 7,765 images and 1,154 samples and tested instruments to detect photosynthetic microbes living within the salt domes, rocks and alabaster crystals.

The study’s findings confirm (statistically) that microbial life at the Pajonales terrestrial analog site is not distributed randomly but concentrated in patchy biological hotspots strongly linked to water availability at km to cm scales.

Next, the team trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to recognise and predict macro-scale geologic features at Pajonales — some of which, like patterned ground or polygonal networks, are also found on Mars — and micro-scale substrates (or ‘micro-habitats’) most likely to contain biosignatures.

Like the Perseverance team on Mars, the researchers tested how to effectively integrate a UAV/drone with ground-based rovers, drills and instruments (e.g., VISIR on ‘MastCam-Z’ and Raman on ‘SuperCam’ on the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover).

“While the high-rate of biosignature detection is a central result of this study, no less important is that it successfully integrated datasets at vastly different resolutions from orbit to the ground, and finally tied regional orbital data with microbial habitats,” said Nathalie A. Cabrol from the SETI Institute NAI team.

Mehbooba Welcomes Life Sentence To Army Captain In Amshipura Fake Encounter

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Former JK Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday took to the microblogging site Twitter to welcome the life sentence recommended for an Army captain in connection with the killing of three civilians in a staged encounter in Amshipura, Shopian in July 2020.

“Recommended punishment of life imprisonment for Captain involved in Amshipora fake encounter is a welcome step towards creating accountability in such cases. Hope an impartial probe is also ordered in Lawapora & Hyderpora encounters to prevent repetition of such ghastly incidents,” PDP Chief tweeted.

The court-martial proceedings, which found that Captain Bhupendra Singh exceeded his powers under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), were completed in less than a year.

Reports suggest life sentence is subject to confirmation by higher Army authorities.

Telangana: Dowry harassment claims life of Warangal lady constable

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A woman police constable, who used to counsel people in dowry harassment cases, herself fell victim to the menace in Telangana.

Nampally Mounika (26) died under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in Warangal district on Sunday but her parents alleged that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws who were harassing her for additional dowry.

Mounika was working as a police constable in Mahabubabad and was expecting a sub-inspector post.

Mounika’s in-laws informed her mother that she hanged herself and that she was being taken to MGM Hospital. When her relatives reached the hospital, they were informed that she had died.

Tension gripped the hospital mortuary where relatives of Mounika tried to attack her in-laws blaming them for her murder.

Mounika’s father Rajender alleged that her husband Sridhar, mother-in-law and brother-in-law were harassing her for more dowry.

On his complaint, police registered a case and arrested Mounika’s husband Sridhar, mother-in-law Vara Laxmi and brother-in-law Krishna Murthy.

The woman became a constable in 2014. She married Sridhar, a financer, in 2015. The couple has a daughter and a son. Since Sridhar’s brother Krishna Murthy was issueless, he had adopted Sridhar and Mounika’s daughter.

According to Mounika’s family, she had recently appeared in a written exam for a sub-inspector post.

Rajender and his wife Narsamma said she used to give counselling to many who approach police station in dowry cases but they had never imagined that their daughter herself would become a victim of dowry harassment. They alleged that she was murdered by in-laws who were trying make it appear like suicide.

Mounika’s parents alleged that her husband used to force her to transfer salary to his bank account. He and other family members were also harassing her for more dowry.
