Mumbai: Actor Priyanka Chopra’s journey has been an inspiration for millions of people across the globe. Speaking to ANI, Priyanka reflected on the issue of pay parity between men and women. She also discussed how the insecurity of men plays a role in pay inequality.
“I have some incredible men in my life who are not insecure of my success but I also have men in my life who are very insecure of my success..So I think that men have enjoyed the freedom and the pride of being the bread winners or the leaders of the family..it’s threatening to their territory when a woman does that or if a woman is more successful or a man is staying at home and woman is going out to work..”
Priyanka emphasised on raising sons sans gender-based stereotypes.
“They (men) will feel bad but we have to teach our sons that there is no shame in crying..there is no shame in shedding tears…there is no shame in giving spotlight to your mothers, sisters, girlfriends,” she said.
The global queen also recalled how her father always supported her mother and never felt insecure about her success.
“My dad did it to my mother…She was getting into private practices and he was still in military..My mom started earning more than my father but they saw it as a unit because ‘ghar pe hi toh aa raha hai’.. there was no ego,” Priyanka beamed with pride.

Priyanka gave a shout out to her husband and singer Nick Jonas as well.
“Now today when I am walking the red carpet with my husband and he steps aside and gives me centre stage I feel proud.
“I feel very proud that I have surrounded myself with people (my father, my husband, my friends and my in-laws) who do not have that insecurity. We as a society need to raise those kind of men who do not feel insecure about such things…sabko successful hone do,” Priyanka concluded.

Hyderabad: Man sentenced to life for raping teenage daughter

Hyderabad: The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court of Sangareddy sentenced a 45-year-old to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping his minor daughter in their residence in Ameenpur town of Hyderabad.
Judge SC Sudharshan also fined Rs. 2,000 on the accused.
According to Ameenpur police inspector U Srinivas Reddy the accused raped his 14-year-old daughter on August 24, 2021, when he found the victim alone at home and took advantage of the situation.

The following day, the victim revealed the incident to her mother who registered a police complaint.

Uttar Pradesh: Man gets life sentence for raping Dalit Boy in 2016

Muzaffarnagar: A special court here on Saturday convicted a man of sodomising an eight-year-old Dalit boy about seven years ago and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 30,000, said a court official.
District Government Advocate Rajeev Sharma told PTI-Bhasha on Saturday that the Special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act Court sentenced a man named Khalid for the crime he committed in July 2016 when the boy had been out for toilet.
Khalid was booked at the complaint of the boy’s father, Sharma said.

‘Disco Dancer’ gets second life as a Salim-Suleiman stage musical

Mumbai: ‘Disco Dancer – The Musical’, a homage to Bollywood of the 1980s and the spirit of the Mithun Chakraborty-starrer after which it is named, premiered on Friday at the NSCI dome in Mumbai.
The event was a starry affair, with ‘Disco Dancer’ Mithun Chakraborty walking the red carpet with son Namashi, along with a galaxy of entertainers, from Bollywood star Suniel Shetty, the show’s presenter, who came with son Ahan, to the music directors Salim-Suleiman and Anu Malik, actors Arshad Warsi, Sunny Leone (with husband Daniel Weber), and Neil Nitin Mukesh, and playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan.
Also present were members of Bappi Lahiri’s family. It was Bappi Lahiri who composed the music for ‘Disco Dancer’ and also sang one of its hit numbers, ‘Yaad Aa Rahi Hai’. The film, which was emblematic of Bollywood’s obsession with ‘disco music’ at one point of time, is remembered for such ageless tracks as ‘Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja’ sung by Parvati Khan and the anthemic ‘I am a Disco Dancer’ belted out by Vijay Benedict.

Talking to the media, Shetty said that he was very happy with the way things turned out for the show and hoped it would open up new opportunities for fresh talent.
There are not many takers for the concept of stage musicals in India, Shetty pointed out, adding that it seemed difficult for the art form to crack through an audience base that is crazy about films and cricket.
Donning a black shirt paired with black pants, and looking suave in his salt-and-pepper look, Shetty amented that stage musicals haven’t really taken off in India. He said it was because “clubbing acting, singing and dancing together on stage in front of a live audience is not a cakewalk for the cast by any stretch of imagination”.
Shetty said the production had been named ‘Disco Dancer – The Musical’ because it was “perhaps one of the few films whose every song was a runaway success”. The title of the musical also pays homage to the ‘Disco King of India’ (Bappi Lahiri), who passed away on February 15, 2022.
The stage musical, which brings back Bappi Lahiri’s cult classics in a reimagined score by Salim-Sulaiman, has been put together by Shetty and the music company, Saregama.

From a law aspirant to a law breaker – how 47 days changed Asad’s life

Prayagraj: At 19, he was like any other young boy of his age — looking forward to making a career in law.
However, destiny had other plans for him and Asad, the third son of gangster Atiq Ahmad, crossed over to the other side of law, turned into the most wanted criminal in the state with a reward of Rs five lakh on his head and met a bloody end on Thursday — all within a span of 47 days.
Asad had no criminal record before February 24 this year when he allegedly led a group of assailants in the sensational killing of lawyer Umesh Pal and his two police guards outside his residence in Prayagraj.

According to police records, Asad’s elder brother Ali has four cases while the eldest brother Umar has one case against him. His father Atiq has 102 criminal cases registered against him and uncle Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf has 50 FIRs lodged against him.
Asad, considered lazy among all brothers, passed the intermediate (Class 12) examination from a prestigious school in Lucknow last year.
Asad mostly stayed in Lucknow and kept away from his father’s business and underworld activities.
Asad wanted to go out of the country for higher studies but his passport verification was rejected following his family’s criminal background. Asad was preparing to take admission in an LLB course since then.
His marriage has also been fixed with his aunt Ayesha Noorie’s daughter. Noorie is now on the run while her husband Akhlaq is in jail.

If sources are to be believed, a rebuke by his father Atiq, made Asad lead the team that killed Umesh Pal on February 24 in a daring daylight shootout.
Devastated by his son’s death, Atiq told jail officials on Thursday night in Prayagraj jail that, “I am responsible for Asad’s death.”
Ironically, the most loved child of the family will be laid to rest on Friday in the absence of his immediate family members — most of whom are either in jail or on the run.

Hyderabad: Wife convicted of life imprisonment for killing husband

Hyderabad: The seventh additional metropolitan sessions judge on Wednesday convicted a wife of life imprisonment for killing her husband.
On March 1st, 2021 Reshma Begum had murdered her husband Mohammed Sohail aka Nisar at footpath beside Government School Chandrayangutta and one media reporter who happened to visit the scene first and have recorded the videograpy of the deceased lying and also accused sitting beside him.
The deceased and accused are beggars and both used to consume alcohol daily and quarrelling with each other. After the murder, Chandrayangutta police had registered a murder case against the wife and a charge sheet was also filed against her.

Based on the testimony given by the media reporter, the seventh additional metropolitan sessions judge Jai Kumar has convicted Reshma Begum for life imprisonment after she was found guilty of murdering her husband.

Hyderabad: Woman gets life imprisonment for killing husband

Hyderabad: The VIIth Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Nampally on Wednesday sentenced a woman who killed her husband in 2021 at Chandrayangutta to life imprisonment. The court imposed a fine of Rs. 500 on her.
Reshma Begum was arrested by Chandrayangutta police for killing her husband on March 1, 2021.
“Reshma strangulated her husband who was sleeping after consuming toddy at the footpath near the government school Chandrayangutta. The duo earned their livelihood by begging on the streets. Both of them fought over small disputes under the influence of alcohol,” said K Prasad Varma SHO Chandrayangutta.

After the arrest, the police filed a charge sheet in court. The court after the trial pronounced the judgment in the case on Wednesday.

Sweat behind sweet dates: Life of Indian farm workers in date farms in deserts

Dates are a staple of the Arab world. For the rest of the world, it is associated with the month of Ramzan, as its popularity reaches a peak in the holy month when Muslims prefer to break the fast with dates.
Dates or the date palm are mentioned in the Quran 22 times, indicating that the significance of the dry fruit is rooted deep in Islam. The date was one of Prophet Muhammad’s favourite and most desired food items as well.
Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, is not only the largest producer of oil but also dates in the world. The Kingdom harvests more than 300 types of dates across the country. Khalas, Sukkari and Ajwa varieties are the most sought ones. Saudi Arabia is also one of the major sourcing countries of dates for India.

The harvesting of date is a prime agricultural activity in Saudi Arabia where more than 33 million palm trees in more than 123,000 agricultural holdings exist. Indians including many from Telangana constitute a significant workforce in date farming.
Dates are high in sugar and vitamins such as potassium and magnesium for consumers but it is full of spine-thorns like the ones on roses, but much larger in size. Working on these farms is not easy and the routine mishap of pricking is painful.
Mortad Sri Babu, a native of Darpalli Mandal in the Nizamabad district, has been engaged in the harvesting of dates for over a decade in Saudi Arabia.
“When thorns prick our arms and fingers, we are not able to move our arms for three to four days because of the pain,” he said, adding that the workers also have brave venomous snakes and scorpions.
Each acre contains 150 trees, and each tree yields about 5-6 cartons of date, equivalent to about a quintal. The crop yields about four months before Ramzan.

“After the harvesting cycle and production, we prefer to go to our homeland where we can attend the Dasara festival along with our loved ones,” Babu said.
Babu is among one of the thousands of Telangana date farm workers in Saudi Arabia.
