Hem Borker gives lecture on madrassas for girls

Hyderabad: The Department of Sociology at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), in collaboration with Minority Studies, Indian Sociological Society, New Delhi, hosted a lecture by Dr. Hem Borker from Jamia Millia Islamia on ‘Inside a Girl’s Madrasa: Everyday Negotiations and Aspirations on Thursday.

Dr. Borker who completed her Ph d from Oxford University, focused on the contributions made by Madrassas to develop the community and fulfill the aspirations of families and individuals. Ethics, religious duties and providing a high standard of moral preaching to live a dignified life are some of the best practices of the Madrassas, she observed.

She also gave examples of Girls’ Madrassas from various states.

Dr. Borker gave insight for the researcher from faiths other than Islam on how to take up the research on madrassas.

Rahul Gandhi to deliver lecture at Cambridge this month

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will deliver a lecture at the prestigious business school of the Cambridge University later this month.

The Congress leader said in a tweet, “Looking forward to visiting my alma mater Cambridge University and delivering a lecture at @CambridgeJBS,” Gandhi tweeted.

“Happy to engage with some of the brightest minds in various domains, including geopolitics, international relations, big data and democracy,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi was responding to a tweet by Cambridge Judge that read: “Delighted to welcome back @RahulGandhi to @Cambridge_Uni later this month. He will lecture on @CambridgeMBA and hold closed-door sessions on Big Data and Democracy and India-China relations, with @shrutikapila, supported by @BennettInst @CamGeopolitics @CamHistory.”

Rahul Gandhi had spoken at the Cambridge University in May 2022, besides addressing the ‘Ideas for India’ conference in London when he interacted with the Indian diaspora on what the present and future holds India.

Event commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s public lecture in Hyderabad held

Hyderabad: An event commemorating the historic public lecture of Swami Vivekananda at Mahbub College here on February 13, 1893 was held on Monday.

The lecture was prior to Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the United States where he attended the Parliament of Religions.

Speaking on the occasion, Swami Bodhamayananda, Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad recalled that the public meeting at Mahbub College was attended by about 1,000 people, including intellectuals, youth and Europeans.

Swami Vivekananda, who spoke on the topic ‘My Mission to the West’, had left the audience spellbound with his speech, he added.

Swami Sithikanthananda, Director, Vivekananda Institute of Languages, P.L. Srinivas, President, Mahbub College, college officials and volunteers attended the event.
