  • Kavitha to appear before ED on March 11, leaves Hyderabad for Delhi

Kavitha to appear before ED on March 11, leaves Hyderabad for Delhi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC K Kavitha left for Delhi late Wednesday night after she was summoned by the central agency Directorate of Enforcement in connection to the excise policy money laundering case. She will appear before the ED on March 11.

In a statement released soon after the summon, Kavitha agreed to cooperate with ED fully and remarked that the Narendra Modi-led central government’s ‘tactics’ of intimidation would neither lower her nor her father and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao nor BRS party’s fight against an anti-people regime.

“Let me remind the power mongers in Delhi that Telangana has never and will never bow before the oppressive anti-people regime. We will fearlessly and fiercely fight for the right of the people,” her statement said.

She further questioned ED’s short notice and denies any involvement in the scam.

“I fail to understand why I have been summoned at such short notice. It seems that certain political motives have been masquerading in the name of investigation. As stated, being a social worker and having prior commitments, I had already planned my schedule for the upcoming week, and the abrupt rejection of my request seems to be motivated by reasons best known to you, which demonstrates that it is nothing but “Political victimisation”, her statement read.

Kavitha leaves for Delhi, seeks time from ED till March 15

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: K. Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in the Delhi excise policy case, left for New Delhi on Wednesday evening.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader was spotted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here amid tight security to catch a flight for the national capital.

According to sources, Kavitha has written to the Enforcement Directorate seeking time till March 15 to appear before the agency for questioning in the Delhi liquor policy case. The ED is yet to comment on the matter.

Kavitha is one of the representatives of the ‘South Group’, which allegedly paid kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. She might be confronted with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Pillai, who was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Kavitha’s travel to Delhi is as per the schedule. She is planning to lead a day-long hunger strike in the national capital on Friday over delay in passing the women’s reservation Bill.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Member of Legislative Council said in a statement that as a law-abiding citizen, she will fully cooperate with the investigating agencies.

She, however, said that in view of the planned dharna in Delhi over women’s reservation Bill on Friday and other prefixed appointments, she will seek legal opinion on the date of appearing before the ED.

She also said that BJP’s tactics of intimidation will not deter her.

“I would also like the ruling party at the Centre to know that these tactics of intimidation against the fight and voice of our leader, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and against the entire BRS party will not deter us. Under the leadership of KCR, we will continue our fight to expose your failures and raise our voice for a brighter and better future for India,” she said

“Let me also remind the power mongers in Delhi that Telangana has never and will never bow before the oppressive anti-people regime. We will fearlessly and fiercely fight for the rights of the people,” she added.

The ED notice came a day after the agency arrested Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Pillai, allegedly the frontman for Kavitha.

Kavitha was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same case in December last year.

In the remand report filed in a Delhi court on Tuesday, the ED stated that Pillai is one of the key persons in the entire scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and formation of the biggest cartel of the South Group.

According to the agency, South Group comprises Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, K. Kavitha (MLC, Telangana) and others. The South Group was being represented by Arun Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu.

  • Bihar police leaves for Tamil Nadu to look into allegations of migrant attack

Bihar police leaves for Tamil Nadu to look into allegations of migrant attack

    [ad_1]

Patna: A four-member team of officials from Bihar on Saturday left for Tamil Nadu to look into allegations of attacks on migrant workers which have been denied by the southern state.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, replying to queries from journalists here, said the decision to send the team was taken after deliberations that took place over a couple of days.

“I first read about the matter in newspapers the day before yesterday and asked officials here to get in touch with their counterparts in Tamil Nadu. Yesterday they said that it would be good if we send a team to that state to get first-hand information. Orders were issued accordingly”, he said.

According to a statement issued by the Police Headquarters, the team comprises D Balamurugan, the Secretary for Rural Development, P Kannan, the Inspector General of Police (CID), Alok Kumar, the Labour Commissioner, and Santosh Kumar, SP, Special Task Force.

According to the statement, the team will meet the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police and other top officials of Tamil Nadu besides visiting Tiruppur district from where reports of attacks on Bihari migrants have surfaced.

Notably, two members of the team, D Balamurugan and P Kannan, hail from Tamil Nadu and according to sources in the state government they have been chosen so that “internal feedback” could be obtained, without facing problems of language.

The Police Headquarters also released helpline numbers issued by the Tamil Nadu police, though the DGP of the southern state had recently issued a statement asserting that reports in a section of the media about attacks on migrants were “misleading and mischievous”.

Nonetheless, returnees from the southern state are sharing their woes with journalists at railway stations, saying though they have come back for Holi festivities, they would not like to go back to work if the situation did not improve.

“I work as a carpenter. My earnings barely suffice to keep my body and soul together. The environment in Tamil Nadu has made the matters worse. I would not like to go back unless there is an improvement in the situation”, said Vinod, who hails from Motihari.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Vishal and Vivek, both from Muzaffarpur, who alleged “we always face insults and, of late, even physical assaults are taking place. We hope that we get some work on our home soil. Who would like to go far away and face humiliations?.

Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore, who was recently in news for being slapped with a notice by the Uttar Pradesh police for a satirical number of hers that was critical of the Yogi Adityanath government, expressed solidarity with migrants upon returning to her home state.

“I am just back from Delhi. I have replied to the notice which, my lawyers say, is illegal. I also met retired Supreme Court judge Justice Markandey Katju who held the same view. As far as migrants are concerned, I feel I am one of them”, Rathore told reporters at the Patna airport.

“Many of my close relatives are eking out a living in far-off places like Delhi. They are not big officials. Some of them work as security guards. Some are even selling vegetables or picking up garbage. They all suffer the same travail”, said the Bhabhua-born singer who also came up with an impromptu song that sought to give voice to the plight of Bhojpuri-speaking migrants.
