TSPSC paper leak case becoming more complex

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam paper leak case is turning out to be more complex than initially thought as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police has found its links far and wide.

The SIT has arrested six more persons, taking the total number to 27.

The team nabbed two brokers and four candidates who appeared in the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and Assistant Engineer (AE) exams.

    MS Education Academy

The candidates had allegedly purchased exam papers of AEE and AE for Rs 10 lakhs each from prime accused Praveen Kumar through two middlemen.

They had paid an advance of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakhs and promised to pay the remaining amount after exam results were declared.

The SIT arrested Aadi Saibab and Mudavat Shivakumar of Nagarkurnool, Ramavat Mahesh of Nagarjuna Sagar and Ponnam Varun of Khammam district.

The search is on for three other candidates who had purchased the question papers.

Muralidhar Reddy of Hyderabad and Manoj Kumar of Warangal have also been arrested who were selling AE and AEE question papers on behalf of Praveen Kumar.

The latest arrests were made after SIT sifted through Praveen’s social media accounts. He was reportedly proving to be a hard nut to crack and the investigators stumbled upon the leak of AEE question paper after a study of his social media accounts.

The SIT identified the candidates after TSPSC authorities evaluated the answer sheets of the exams which were already cancelled on suspicion of paper leak. The authorities zeroed in on candidates who scored abnormally high marks.

During the last two months, SIT had found leak of question papers of Assistant Engineer (Civil), Divisional Accounts Officer (DAO) and Group-1 Prelims.

Last week, the SIT had arrested Bhagwant, who works in the office of Vikarabad Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) and his brother Ravi Kumar.

Officials found during the investigation that Bhagwant purchased a question paper of Assistant Engineer (AE) exam from one of the accused Dhakya Nayak for his brother Ravi Kumar.

Dhakya is husband of Renuka, a teacher who had obtained question papers from prime accused Praveen Kumar, an employee in TSPSC.

She had purchased the question paper for her brother Rajeshwar Nayak, who had appeared in the AE exam. She along with Dhakya had sold question papers to others.

The TSPSC scam came to light on March 13 following a complaint by a youth. The police initially arrested nine accused including Praveen Kumar, who worked as an assistant section officer at TSPSC and Rajashekar Reddy, a network admin at TSPSC. They had allegedly stolen question papers of some exams from a computer in a confidential section of the Commission and sold it to other accused.

Subsequently, the SIT arrested 15 accused from Mahabubnagar district alone. The investigators later found that the case has links with Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nagarkurnool, Khammam and Nalgonda districts.

The exam paper leak case created a sensation in Telangana as opposition parties Congress and BJP blamed the BRS government for the leak that affected lakhs of unemployed in the state. The opposition is also demanding a probe by a sitting judge of the High Court or by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The SIT has also examined TSPS chairman Janardhan Reddy, secretary Anita Ramchandran and member B. Linga Reddy.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing money laundering charges in the case.

The SIT has reportedly identified financial transactions to the tune of Rs 33.4 lakhs in the case.

DMK won’t take legal action against Annamalai in audio leak case

    [ad_1]

Chennai: DMK leader T.K.S. Elangovan said on Monday that the party will not file a case against BJP leader K. Annamalai in the audio tape leak case linked to state Finance Minister P.T.R. Thiagarajan.

He said the audio clip was fake and it’s up to Thiagarajan to file a case against the BJP leader as it is a personal allegation against him.

Elangovan said that since it is a personal matter, it is Thiagarajan who should file a case against the BJP leader, adding that the DMK will not file a case.

    MS Education Academy

He also accused Annamalai of levelling fake allegations against DMK leaders.

It may be noted that several opposition leaders, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, have called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to probe into the leaked audio clips that were attributed to Thiagarajan.

Thiagarajan had earlier said in a press statement that the audio tapes attributed to him were fake and that advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology was used. He said that this was the job of a blackmail group.

Thiagarajan also said that this group is trying to create a rift between him and his party leader, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

TSPSC chairman, secretary appear before ED in paper leak case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In a key development in the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper leak case, its chairman Janardhan Reddy and secretary Anitha Ramachandran on Monday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The ED officials were questioning the duo at ED’s regional office here. The agency is gathering information on key aspects relating to the paper leak, focusing on financial transactions. The statements of both officials will be recorded by the central agency.

Last month, the ED took up an investigation into money laundering allegations in the TSPSC question paper leak case

    MS Education Academy

The ED had earlier summoned TSPSC section officer Shankar Laxmi in connection with the probe into the alleged illegal money transactions in the paper leak scam.

Shankar Laxmi is incharge of the confidential section of TSPSC, from where the exam question papers were allegedly stolen by Praveen Kumar and Rajasekhar Reddy, the employees of TSPSC and prime accused in the case.

The ED has also questioned both Praveen Kumar and Rajasekhar Reddy in Chanchalguda Jail.

During the interrogation, the agency recorded the statements of both the accused about the money they allegedly collected from those who obtained the leaked question papers. The agency suspects that the amount they collected is involved in money laundering and is unaccounted for.

The central agency had registered a Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) and took up investigation following reports and complaints about huge money changing hands.

During the questioning of the accused and others in the case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana police had reportedly found illegal transactions to the tune of Rs38 lakh.

The TSPSC scam came to light on March 12 which led to the arrest of 15 accused besides the cancellation of the Group 1 preliminary examination, Assistant Engineers, AEE, and DAO exams.

Praveen Kumar, who worked as an assistant section officer at TSPSC and Rajashekar Reddy, a network admin at TSPSC, had allegedly stolen question papers of some exams from a computer in a confidential section of the Commission and sold it to other accused.

The SIT has so far arrested 19 persons in the case.

The exam paper leak case created a sensation in Telangana as opposition parties Congress and BJP blamed the BRS government for the leak that affected lakhs of unemployed in the state.

The SIT has also examined TSPS chairman Janardhan Reddy, secretary Anita Ramachandran and member B. Linga Reddy.

Islamabad: An audio call, purportedly between Pakistan Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s mother-in-law, Mahjabeen Noon, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Khawaja Tariq Rahim’s wife, Rafia Tariq, surfaced on Sunday where the two were heard discussing their support for the top judge and the wish for snap elections, media reports said.

The women, during the alleged call, also expressed their resentment towards the incumbent government in Islamabad, The News reported.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister Ata Tarar shared the audio clip on his Twitter account, saying that he is sure about the deep conspiracy after hearing the audio clip.

“The Constitution and law have been trampled for the sake of families. The families of Chief Sahib and two colleagues are trying to bring Imran Niazi to power by holding early elections along with attending (political) rallies,” Tarar tweeted, as per the The News.

In the purported leaked call, Noon and the PTI counsel’s wife, speak about their concern for the Chief Justice amid the ongoing election case delay case which is being heard by a three-member bench at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

CJP Bandial’s mother-in-law is heard extending her support towards her son-in-law, assuring him to strengthen him in the midst of the rift between the government and the apex court.

They also vaguely discuss about being in a Lahore rally where there were hundreds of thousands of people.

The bench — headed by CJP Bandial and comprising Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar as members — in its April 4 order, directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold the polls in Punjab on May 14.

Telangana: Two more arrested in TSPSC paper leak case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam paper leak case has arrested two more accused.

Mibayya and his son Janardhan, who hail from Mahabubnagar, have been arrested, taking the number of persons arrested so far to 19.

Mibayya had allegedly paid Rs 2 lakh to Lavdyavath Dhakya, one of the accused already arrested in the case, for a question paper of the exam conducted by TSPSC for recruitment of assistant engineers. Janardhan had appeared in the exam.

    MS Education Academy

Dhakya is husband of Renuka, a teacher who had obtained question papers from prime accused Praveen Kumar, an employee in TSPSC. She had purchased the question paper for her brother Rajeshwar Nayak, who had appeared in the AE exam. She, along with Dhakya, had sold question papers to others.

The TSPSC scam came to light on March 12 which led to the arrest of 15 accused besides the cancellation of the Group 1 preliminary examination, Assistant Engineers, AEE, and DAO exams.

Praveen, who worked as an assistant section officer at TSPSC and Rajashekar Reddy, a network admin at ATSPSC, had allegedly stolen question papers of some exams from a computer in a confidential section of the Commission and sold it to other accused.

The SIT had last week informed the Telangana High Court that it had arrested 17 accused in the case since March 13. It also informed the court that it was making efforts to arrest another accused from New Zealand.

The exam paper leak case created a sensation in Telangana as opposition parties Congress and BJP blamed the BRS government for the leak that affected lakhs of unemployed in the state.

The SIT has also examined TSPS chairman Janardhan Reddy, secretary Anita Ramchandran and member B. Linga Reddy.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing money laundering charges in the case. Early this week, it questioned Praveen Kumar and Rajashekar Reddy.

The ED officials are believed to have questioned the two accused based on the information obtained from Shankara Lakshmi, incharge of the confidential section room at TSPSC. She had appeared before the ED on April 11 and was grilled for over 10 hours.

It was from the computer in the confidential section that Praveen and Rajasekhar had stolen question papers of various exams conducted by the TSPSC for recruitment in government departments.

Under pressure: Austin seeks to soothe Ukraine, European allies after intel leak

    [ad_1]

    us ukraine austin 75533

Austin’s other challenge will be assuring allies that the Defense Department is doing more to safeguard classified materials, particularly those related to foreign partners. He must also relay to his counterparts that those measures will not hamper their own access to the Pentagon’s plans for Ukraine, or other international cooperation.

Law enforcement last week arrested Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, in connection with the Justice Department investigation into the online leaks. Teixeira, an IT specialist, allegedly took photos of the classified materials and shared them to a private chatroom on Discord, a social media platform popular with gamers.

Speaking to reporters at Sweden’s Muskö Naval Base on Wednesday after a meeting with his Swedish counterpart, Austin declined to provide details about the investigation. Asked whether a 21-year-old should have access to the nation’s top secrets, Austin noted that “the vast majority of our military is young.”

“It’s not exceptional that young people are doing important things in our military. That’s really not the issue,” Austin said, noting that Teixeira is a “computer specialist” who worked in an intelligence unit and held a top secret clearance. Part of his responsibility was “maintaining the network” that the unit operates on, Austin said.

“The issue is how you responsibly execute or carry out your duties and how you protect the information,” Austin said. “All of us have a requirement to do that, and supervisors have a requirement to make sure that that’s being done.”

So far, DoD officials say they are not overly concerned that the leak will hurt relationships abroad, or Austin’s ability to rally Western partners to donate weapons to Ukraine.

While Austin’s role as leader of the year-old Ukraine Defense Contact Group is already a challenging one, there are no signs that job has gotten any harder in the last few weeks, said one senior DoD official, who was granted anonymity to speak about the discussions ahead of the trip.

“He remains determined. He remains very focused on what needs to get done,” the DoD official said. “We all in the secretary’s team continue to be highly motivated, very confident. We know how to do this. We’ve been doing this for a year.”

The Pentagon is also not seeing any wavering from allies after the leak, the official said.

“All the signs we are seeing from allies and partners is absolute firmness and determination to keep doing it. The fact that we are meeting again … is itself a sign of that commitment,” the official said.

Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson said the leak was not on the agenda during his Wednesday meeting with Austin. He also said he is not concerned about the leak potentially affecting Stockholm’s access to intelligence.

“We have good intelligence cooperation between Sweden and the United States, as we have a strong defense and security cooperation, and we rest assured of U.S. commitment to taking this seriously,” Jonson said during the joint press conference. “We have [been] reassured on the bilateral basis, and feel completely sure of the U.S. commitment on handling the situation.”

Since news of the leak emerged, the Pentagon has clamped down on access to classified information by narrowing distribution lists and reviewing how the information is shared and with whom. DoD is also reexamining how it vets service members, including whether background checks for those seeking security clearances need to be strengthened, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said on Monday.

Teixeira’s unit, the 102nd Intelligence Wing, has been ordered to halt its intelligence mission as the Air Force’s inspector general conducts an investigation, the service said Tuesday. All units will also have to conduct a “security-focused standdown” in the next 30 days.

Those steps could prompt worries from allies who fear they will be shut out of important conversations. Investigators have already examined whether Teixeira interacted with anyone from a foreign government or entity before allegedly posting classified material online, POLITICO reported.

Top Ukrainian officials have expressed frustration with both the leak itself and the Pentagon’s downbeat assessment of Ukraine’s chances on the battlefield. U.S. intelligence assessed that Ukraine would see only modest gains from a planned spring counteroffensive, The Washington Post reported.

“The same people who said Kyiv would fall in three days are now leaking harmful and equally ridiculous information ahead of an offensive critically important for the entire free world,” a person in regular contact with senior officials in Kyiv told POLITICO.

Yet this is not the first time DoD has expressed reservations about Ukraine’s capabilities: Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Mark Milley, who will also be leading the meeting at Ramstein alongside Austin, said last fall that he did not think Kyiv could expel Russian forces from all of Ukraine.

Austin is scheduled to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, on Friday ahead of the larger group meeting.

In an outward sign of the Pentagon’s continuing support for Ukraine, the Biden administration on Wednesday announced another $325 million in additional military aid for Ukraine, the 36th drawdown of equipment from U.S. stocks since the conflict began and the first since the leak came to light.

The package, which primarily includes munitions, missiles and anti-armor capabilities, is focused on boosting Ukraine’s weapons stocks ahead of a widely anticipated spring offensive.

Also on Wednesday, Kyiv received two Patriot missile defense systems, one from the U.S. and one as part of a combined effort from Germany and the Netherlands, which will be used to defend against Russian air and missile attacks.

European security officials, on the other hand, are less disturbed by the leaks and what they contain.

“I can’t detect any change in mood,” said one senior European diplomat, who like others spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal alliance dynamics.

The U.S., the diplomat said, “has informed allies about the leak and about their efforts to clarify what happened. Within the alliance and in the Ramstein format, work continues with the aim of keeping up the support to Ukraine.”

A second senior European diplomat also said they did not see a shift as a result of the leaks.

“In any case no classified NATO documents were leaked,” this person said, adding that it’s “not a big concern in the house.”

While some officials do say the leaks are an issue, they also argue that risks for intelligence-sharing already exist within the large Ramstein group format and the U.S. leak doesn’t change the bigger picture.

“The leaks have a negative impact, but they will not affect that much of the information sharing with the U.S., nor the plans to continue the support for Ukraine,” said a third senior European diplomat. Friday’s Ramstein meeting, the diplomat said, “will go along just fine.”

There is a strong focus now, officials say, on addressing industrial production challenges.

Resolve is “not diminished in any way,” said the first senior European diplomat. The alliance’s national armaments directors “will work even harder on ramping up defense industry capacity and on getting the right signals to industry,” the diplomat said.

There is, they added, “a very palpable sense of urgency.”

  • NTA, Not KU, Exam Conducting Authority For NET: KU On Paper Leak Allegations

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir said on Sunday that it completely dissociates itself from allegations leveled by some students regarding alleged paper leak of Kashmiri subject in the National Eligibility Test (NET).

A KU spokesperson said in a statement that the NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency, and not the University of Kashmir, and hence all the examination-related domains including confidential setting of question papers, conduct of examination and evaluation etc. fall solely within the jurisdiction of the conducting authority.

The University strongly condemns that its name is being dragged into the alleged paper leak claim when the University, as an institution, is not even remotely connected with the process.

“We inform one and all to refrain from trying to harm the reputation of the University with baseless claims and allegations. The University reserves the right to take appropriate legal recourse in such situations since it concerns the institution’s reputation and prestige,” the spokesperson said.

“There are military members serving today from Georgia and other places who are less safe because of what this airman did,” Graham said on ABC’s “This Week.” “There is no justification for this, and for any member of Congress to suggest it’s OK to leak classified information because you agree with the cause is terribly irresponsible and puts America in serious danger.”

Teixiera, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, is accused of uploading dozens of secret documents detailing sensitive intelligence and defense information on the social media website Discord. He was arraigned in a Boston court on Friday, charged with unauthorized retention and transmission of classified national defense information.

The leak is seen as potentially having serious implications for Ukrainians on the battlefield and has frustrated several U.S. allies.

Graham, who was speaking from Israel after wrapping up a trip to Saudi Arabia, said the leak has been “very damaging” in the region.

“There’s information about the air defense capability of the Ukraine and everybody in the region [is] really worried because who wants to share information with the United States if you’re gonna read about it in the paper or find it on the internet? This has done a lot of damage to us in the region,” Graham said.

SRINAGAR: Students of Kashmir University’s Kashmiri Department are demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged National Eligibility Test (NET) paper leak for the subject that was conducted on February 22.

As per reports, the aggrieved students on Sunday alleged that despite sending a representation to the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Dean Academics, and the concerned Head of Department (HoD), the matter has not been taken care of, thus marring the career of hundreds of students who have toiled hard for the exam.

Daily Excelsior reported that, one of the aspirants who appeared for the exam said that the examination was held on February 22, and the result came out a few days ago. He added that soon after the exam, they got in touch with the concerned officials with their apprehensions but to no avail.

The aspirants are demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry to ascertain the facts and to find out how a few candidates managed to score 96 out of 100 and 100 out of 100 in some cases.

Students have urged the LG administration to initiate a probe to identify the culprits while noting that they are sure that the paper was leaked.
