Telangana Congress leader Maheshwar Reddy resigns
[ad_1]
Hyderabad: In a jolt to Congress in Telangana, AICC programmes implementation committee chairman Alleti Maheshwar Reddy on Thursday resigned from the party.
He is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Accompanied by state BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Maheshwar Reddy went to party’s Telangana in charge Tarun Chug’s residence in New Delhi on Thursday. He later called on BJP national president J. P. Nadda.

Maheshwar Reddy told reporters that he had sent his resignation to the Congress leadership. He termed his meetings with BJP leaders a “courtesy” call.
He said he would announce his future course of action after April 26.
Reddy said he decided to quit Congress with a deep sense of hurt.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) had issued a show cause notice to Maheshwar Reddy, asking him to explain his “anti-party activities” within an hour.
TPCC Disciplinary Action Committee chairman G Chinna Reddy stated that the panel received complaints regarding Maheshwar Reddy’s “anti-party activities”.
There were complaints that he was moving closer to the BJP and making scathing remarks about the Congress leadership.
Maheshwar Reddy expressed dismay at the treatment meted out to him, when no action was taken against an MP who met BJP leader Amit Shah. He alleged that “certain people” within the party were attempting to force him out.
Maheshwar Reddy had said that he practises politics with ethics. He also denied any interest in any other party and claimed that he had always discussed his grievances within the party forum. He said he also sought an appointment with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the situation.
Targeting TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy, he asked whether a person who had defected from many parties and lacked credibility could issue him show cause notices.

Excise policy case: Delhi HC notice to ED in AAP leader Vijay Nair’s bail plea
[ad_1]
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) communications in-charge Vijay Nair’s bail plea in connection with the money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy scam.
Nair was only the media and communications in-charge of the AAP and had no role in the drafting, framing, or implementing of the excise policy in any manner, his counsel argued saying thatA he was being “victimised” for his political background.
After Nair’s counsel’s submissions, Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued notice to the ED and listed the matter for the next hearing on May 19.

A Delhi court had, on February 16, denied bail to Nair and four others.
Observing that “allegations are quite serious”, special judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court had, apart from Nair, denied bail to Sameer Mahendru, Abhishek Boinpally, Sarath Chandra Reddy, and Benoy Babu.
He held that there is enough incriminating evidence to show the entire “modus operandi” adopted by the accused persons for the commission of offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
On the allegations and role of Nair, the court had said, “Though he was only the media and communication in charge of AAP, it has been revealed during the investigation of this case that he was actually representing the AAP and GNCTD in different meetings that took place with the stakeholders in liquor business at different places. His participation in the meetings in this capacity is to be viewed in light of the facts that he was residing in the official accommodation allotted to a senior Minister of the AAP and once he is even alleged to have represented himself as an OSD in the Excise Department of GNCTD and further that none from the Government or AAP officially participated in these meetings.”

India waiting for the right leader, party: KCR
[ad_1]
Hyderabad: Claiming that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is receiving huge response in Maharashtra, party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday that the country is waiting for the right leader and the right party.
KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, said the kind of response BRS is getting in Maharashtra is beyond his own expectations.
KCR was addressing a ‘Dawat-e-Iftar’ hosted by the state government at the L.B. Stadium here.

Stating that the country is passing through a difficult phase, the BRS chief said that it is a temporary phase and ultimately truth and justice will prevail.
He said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was turned into BRS to make an effort to save the country.
“The country belongs to all, and we have to save it at any cost. We will fight till the last drop of our blood but will not compromise,” KCR told the large gathering.
Calling for safeguarding the composite culture of the country, the BRS leader said, “Nobody can change our traditions and history. Those who try will go but the country will remain.”
KCR, however, stressed the need to act wisely without getting swayed by emotions.
“When I was fighting for Telangana, I knew that ‘Allah ke ghar der hai, andher nahi’,” he said.
Referring to the progress made by Telangana across sectors during the last nine years, KCR said the state has no competition.
He also said the Central government itself has revealed in the Parliament that Telangana has the highest per capita income in the country.
“Our per capita income is higher than that of bigger states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka,” he said.
KCR added that per capita power consumption in the state has doubled in nine years while farmers’ suicides have come to an end, and those who had migrated are now coming back to the state.
He pointed out that while paddy cultivation in the country is happening on 94 lakh acres, Telangana alone accounts for 56.40 lakh acres.
“There is no drinking water and power problem in the state. We are moving ahead, but the country is lagging behind. If the Centre had performed at par with Telangana, our GDP would have been higher by Rs 3-4 lakh crore,” he said.
KCR also said his government spent Rs 12,000 crore on minority welfare in nine years, while during the preceeding 10 years of Congress rule, only Rs 1,180 crore was spent.
Ministers, Muslim leaders from BRS, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, religious scholars and others attended the Iftar party.

Cong targets Ram Madhav, RSS leader says he will file defamation suit
[ad_1]
New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday asked why the CBI or ED is not knocking at the doors of RSS leader Ram Madhav after former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satyapal Malik alleged that he was involved in corruption, a charge strongly rejected by the former BJP general secretary.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said in October 2021, Malik had claimed that a senior RSS functionary had offered him a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files related to “Ambani” when he was the J-K governor. He claimed that in an interview to a YouTube channel on Monday, Malik named the RSS functionary as Madhav.
Asked about it, Madhav told PTI that these are “totally false allegations”.

“The CBI has already thoroughly investigated the matter. I will be filing defamation charges against the peddlers of these false allegations very soon,” the RSS leader said.
Malik was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir between August 2018 and October 2019, and in October 2021 he was the governor of Meghalaya.
“Why is the CBI or ED not knocking at Ram Madhav’s doors, given that a former governor has exposed him,” Khera asked.
The Congress leader said the CBI had openly questioned the former governor at its headquarters but why has Ram Madhav has not been called for questioning yet.
“The ED-CBI raids or interrogates opposition leaders time and again, but why not BJP leaders? Why these double standards?
Khera also played out the purported interview of Malik.
“If Malik is speaking the truth then why the CBI, ED or other agencies have not taken action against Madhav, else there should be action against Malik if his claims are untrue,” he said.
Khera also claimed that Malik has sought Z-plus security as a former governor but he has only been provided a PSO and is living in his own house, whereas former Congres leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has been given a government bungalow and Z-plus security.

House must have leader of opposition, says SC
[ad_1]
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday said that a House must have a leader of opposition as it asked the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council chairman’s office to file its response on a plea moved by a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLC.
A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala observed, “A House must have a leader of opposition”.
The remarks of the bench came after advocate MS Dhingra, appearing for UP Legislative Council chairman’s office, sought time to file the reply.

The bench posted the matter for further hearing on May 1.
Samajwadi Party (SP) MLC Lal Bihari Yadav in his plea has challenged an Allahabad High Court order that upheld the withdrawal of his recognition as the leader of opposition.
On February 10, the top court had agreed to hear Yadav’s plea and issued a notice to the office of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council chairman, whose notification dated July 7, 2022 withdrew the petitioner’s recognition as the LoP.
Yadav had submitted that the LoP is the leader of the single-largest opposition party in the House.
The top court had said, “What we have to see is whether there is any restriction provided under the statute that the leader of the opposition will be the one from the party having a certain number of seats.”
In the 100-member House, 90 are elected and 10 nominated.
The notification from the House chairman’s office says the LoP will be from a party that enjoys at least 10 per cent of the total strength of the House.
Yadav has said in his arguments that the SP should get the LoP post as it has nine members which is 10 per cent of 90 elected members. The government has opposed his argument, saying it should be 10 per cent of the total strength, and a party with at least 10 members is eligible to get the post.
On October 21 last year, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had dismissed Yadav’s plea that had challenged the notification issued by the principal secretary of the legislative council, de-recognising him as the LoP.
The high court had said in view of the prevailing law, Yadav did not have an inalienable right to be appointed or to continue as the LoP.
It had said the Uttar Pradesh State Legislature (Members’ Emoluments and Pension) Act, 1980 does not prescribe any mechanism for recognising an LoP.
“The chairman of the Vidhan Parishad was not bound to be guided only by the criterion of recognising the leader of an opposition party, which has the greatest numerical strength. The rules provide for discretion of the respondent no.1 (legislative council chairman) to recognise and/or de-recognise a leader of opposition,” it had said.
According to the petition, Yadav was elected as an MLC in 2020 and designated as the LoP in the Legislative Council on May 27, 2020.
But the Legislative Council Secretariat de-recognised him as the LoP when the SP’s strength in the House fell short of 10 — the minimum number of members required for the largest opposition party to get the post.
Yadav has pleaded that the principal secretary’s decision was “illegal and arbitrary”.
He has sought a direction to stay the operation of the July 7, 2022 notification by which his recognition as the LoP in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council was withdrawn.
The SP leader has also sought the quashing of the notification.

PM Modi visited Telangana five times, but KCR didn’t receive him even once: BJP leader
[ad_1]
Hyderabad: Former Member of Legislative Council and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader N Ramchander Rao on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Telangana five times in 14 months but Chief Minister of the state K Chandrasekhar Rao received him not even once.
Talking to ANI, Rao said, “In the last 14 months PM visited the state five times and not even a single time CM received the PM as per the protocol.”
“The CM of Telangana is not behaving according to the status and stature and not following the protocol of the state. CMs like Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala and MK Stalin of Tamil Nadu are also politically and ideologically opposed. But they both have the humility to receive PM Modi as per the protocol though they are politically opposed to BJP”, Rao added.

He said that the people of Telangana will teach KCR a lesson. “Earlier Rajiv Gandhi and NTR had bitter political differences, yet NT Rama Rao came to receive Rajiv Gandhi. That is the political culture a democracy requires. Today the behaviour of CM is deplorable, and condemnable and Telangana people are being insulted by CM KCR. The people in Telangana will teach him a lesson”, he said.
Earlier in a veiled attack on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao-led government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Telangana needs to be very careful of people who nurture dynastic rule, nepotism and corruption.
Prime Minister Modi said he was pained at the non-cooperation of state government in the Centre’s projects.
Addressing a gathering at Parade Ground, Hyderabad, PM Modi said, “Serving people with utmost devotion is our primary goal. But I am very pained about one thing… It hurts a lot when the development and welfare measures by the central government do not fructify well due to hindrances posed by state governments. This has been happening in Telangana.”
In the programme at Parade Ground, Hyderabad, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station and other infrastructure projects.
He said due to the lack of cooperation from the state government, many central projects were getting delayed and it is the people who are the ultimate sufferers.
He said the state government should not allow any hindrance to development projects.
“I appeal to the Telangana government to not allow any obstruction to development measures, not make the people of Telangana the victims, not to deprive the state of prosperity,” he added.
Attacking the ruling BRS in Telangana without taking names, PM Modi said dynasty politics and corruption are not different. He said corruption flourishes where dynasty politics prevails.
Prime Minister Modi said, “In today’s new India, it is our priority to fulfil the aspirations of the countrymen. But a handful of people are very agitated by these development works. People, who keep nurturing dynastic rule, nepotism and corruption, are irked by those who work honestly. They are not concerned with the interest of the country and society. Such people only like to see their families flourishing. Telangana needs to be very careful about such people.”
He said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has been dedicated to fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of Telangana’s people.
“In the last nine years, around 70 km of the Metro network has been laid in Hyderabad only,” the PM said.
He said Telangana is reaping the benefits of the efforts being taken to modernise railways in the entire country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Hyderabad on Saturday. He was received by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Bandi Sanjay was also at the airport.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not receive PM Modi at the airport. Instead, the CM deputed state minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav to welcome the Prime Minister at Begumpet airport in his absence.
The Telangana CM also skipped Prime Minister Modi’s programme in the state on Saturday. Chief Minister KCR was invited following the protocol.
KCR’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has been at loggerheads with the BJP, which is trying to make political and electoral inroads into Telangana. Assembly election in the state is due this year.
KCR, on the other hand, is trying to expand his party to other states as part of its national ambitions.
Last year, KCR renamed his party – the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) – to Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), marking the first step toward becoming a national party to counter the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He was also seen putting in efforts to unite the opposition parties for a united fight against BJP in next year’s general elections.
