‘You played Holi with Pulwama martyrs..’: Owaisi lashes at Satya Pal Malik

    [ad_1]

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a dig at the former governor of Jammu & Kashmir Satya Pal Malik over his silence on the 2019 Pulwama attack-related security lapses during his tenure in the Union Territory (UT). Malik has recently alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked him to ‘stay quiet’ and used it while campaigning for the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.

In a video clip shared by AIMIM on their official Twitter handle, Owaisi remarked that Malik stayed silent to save his job. “What kind of love do you have for India Satya Pal Malik? To save your position, you played Holi (Hindu festival of colours) with the blood of our martyrs,” Owaisi said.

In 2019, 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives at Lethapora, Pulwama district when their convoy was hit by a vehicle filled with explosives. It was a suicide attack. Thirty-five soldiers were reportedly injured.

Attacking Malik, Owaisi claimed that the former J&K governor had failed in his duties and is now acting ‘truthful’ for political gains.

“You should have come out and revealed the truth soon after the attack took place. But you did not utter a single word because you were in love with your position,” Owaisi alleged.

Owaisi further alleged that Malik’s silence spoke volumes about how much the latter wanted Narendra Modi to come back to power in 2019. “When the Pulwama attack happened, the entire country condemned the attack including me. But you chose to remain quiet. Where did your so-called patriotism go then? You did not speak the truth at that time because you wanted Modi to win the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

In an explosive interview with The Wire, Satya Pal Malik made allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi knew about the security lapses in Pulwama attack but asked him to stay quiet. Malik also that Modi did not care about the state of corruption in the country. “Mein safely keh sakta hoon Prime Minister ko corruption se bahut nafrat nahin hain” (‘I can safely say the PM has no real problem with corruption’),” he told senior journalist Karan Thapar.

His interview created strong reactions from Opposition parties and activists.

Soon after the interview, Malik was summoned by the CBI for an alleged insurance scam. While many believed these were the aftershocks created by the interview, Union Home Minister Amit Shah maintained that there was no relation of the summons and Malik’s allegations against the BJP-led government.

“According to my information, he (Malik) has been called a second or third time. An investigation is underway, some new information or proof must have come to light and he has been called for the third time. There is no truth in this that he has been called for speaking against us,” Shah said at the recently concluded Karnataka Roundtable organised by India Today.

“Why is not the soul awoken when you are in power…the credibility of such remarks should be seen by people, journalists…if all this is true, why was he quiet when he was Governor..these are not issues of public discussion. I want to say to the people of the country that the BJP-led government hasn’t done any such thing which needs to be hidden. If some remarks are made for personal, political self-interest after leaving us, those should be evaluated by the people, media…,” Amit Shah had said.

Mangaluru: Hindu right-wing leader Satyajith Surathkal on Friday strongly criticised the state government’s decision to withdraw the security provided to him on account of the Assembly elections.

Addressing reporters at the press club here, Surathkal, who is Dakshina Kannada district Hindu Jagaran Forum leader, said BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and RSS leaders would be responsible if he got killed during the election process.

Surathkal said he had been provided security for the past 16 years. “It is now removed on the pretext of elections and even my revolver has been taken. Appeals made to the state Home Minister and Sangh Parivar leaders proved futile,” he said.

Surathkal said he had been receiving threats only because he stood for the Hindutva cause. “I have no political ambition and will continue the fight,” he said.

Dakshina Kannada district Hindu Jagarana Vedike leaders Raviraj, Nagesh and others were present at the press conference.

The historic indictment of the former president by the Manhattan district attorney brought hundreds of protesters last week to the Manhattan criminal courthouse.

Meanwhile Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, a darling of progressive Democrats for his criminal justice reform policies, has drawn the ire of House Republicans, who say the top prosecutor should focus on violent offenders instead of Trump’s alleged involvement in a hush money scheme. They plan to hold a so-called “field hearing” in New York City next week on violent crime.

Adams criticized House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for his hearing’s singular focus on New York City when “crime in congressional Republican areas per capita is through the roof.” He faulted southern states for the “proliferation of guns” flowing to major cities.

The hearing is the latest move by House Republicans to pressure Bragg, who is pursuing 34 felony charges accusing Trump of falsifying business records to bury damaging allegations of an extramarital affair during the height of the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump has pleaded not guilty.

The House GOP recently subpoenaed a former Manhattan prosecutor who criticized aspects of Bragg’s investigation. Bragg sued to block it, calling the move a “campaign of harassment.”

The House Judiciary Committee’s scheduled hearing on violent crime pledges to “examine how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents.”

Adams said the committee hasn’t communicated with city officials to prepare for the hearing that will be held in a lower Manhattan federal building.

“This is just an extension of Donald Trump campaigning and it really makes no sense,” Adams said.

“The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable – indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference,” Trump continued.

The only former president to have been indicted, Trump sought to tie the recent investigation to the 2016 campaign and the events of his subsequent presidency.

“You remember it just like I do: Russia, Russia, Russia; the Mueller Hoax; Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine; Impeachment Hoax 1; Impeachment Hoax 2; the illegal and unconstitutional Mar-a-Lago raid; and now this,” Trump said.

Trump repeated, without evidence, another frequent refrain about the “weaponization” of the justice system and continued his verbal assault on Bragg, accusing the district attorney of “doing Joe Biden’s dirty work.”

He finished with a rallying call to MAGA voters amid his campaign for the presidency in 2024.

“So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he said.

In a follow-up post on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at “Thugs and Radical Left Monsters.” In all caps, he further called the indictment an attack on “our once free and fair elections” and the U.S. a “third world nation.”

In a further post, the former president said he “cannot get a fair trial in New York.”

  • Trump lashes out at DeSantis, says he regrets his endorsement of him

Trump lashes out at DeSantis, says he regrets his endorsement of him

    [ad_1]

    aptopix election 2024 cpac 76604

Trump spent nearly 10 minutes going after DeSantis, who is widely viewed as his most formidable challenger for the Republican nomination. The Florida governor, who is expected to launch his campaign following the end of the state’s legislative session in May, has been embarking on a swing of early primary states to promote his newly released memoir — including in Iowa, where he appeared on Friday.

Trump contended that DeSantis pleaded with him for an endorsement during his first run for governor, when polls showed him trailing his primary challenger, then-Florida agricultural commissioner Adam Putnam.

“I said ‘You are so dead right now you are not going, no endorsement is going to save you. George Washington won’t save you.’ He said, ‘I’m telling you, if you endorse me, I have a chance,’” Trump said.

Trump said he eventually decided to support DeSantis because he defended him while he was facing a Democratic-led impeachment into allegations that he pressured Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy into investigating Joe Biden’s family. In fact, DeSantis got on Trump’s radar by defending him from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 election.

DeSantis went on to win the primary while heavily promoting his support from Trump. He then prevailed in the general election over Democrat Andrew Gillum. Trump said that ahead of the general election, DeSantis had harbored doubts that he would win.

Trump said that he was later dismayed when DeSantis, at that point serving as governor, declined to answer questions about whether he would challenge Trump for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination.

Trump said he last spoke with DeSantis several months ago. His remarks signal that he is intensely focused on DeSantis, who he conceded was “probably” his most serious challenger. Behind the scenes, the former president’s team has been conducting polling research in order to gauge the governor’s weaknesses. There was one attack Trump refused to make, however: calling DeSantis “Meatball Ron.” It had been reported that Trump was workshopping the nickname. But he dismissed the idea, calling the moniker “too crude.”

During another gaggle with reporters on the flight back to West Palm Beach late in the evening, Trump doubled down on his remarks about DeSantis. The former president called the governor a flip-flopper, ridiculed his debate skills and likened him to establishment-aligned Republicans like Utah Sen. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Paul Ryan.

“Remember this: If it weren’t for me, Ron DeSanctimonious would right now be working probably at a law firm, or maybe a Pizza Hut, I don’t know.”

A DeSantis spokesperson declined to comment on Trump’s remarks. The governor has largely avoided engaging with the former president, saying recently that doesn’t spend his time “trying to smear other Republicans.”

Trump was also asked about comments made by former Vice President Mike Pence over the weekend at the Gridiron Dinner, in which he called Jan. 6 a “disgrace” and said Trump should be held “accountable” for the deadly assault on the Capitol.

Pence is now contemplating challenging Trump for the nomination.

“I heard his statement, and I guess he decided that being nice isn’t working because he’s at 3 percent in the polls, so he figured he might as well not be nice any longer,” Trump said.

  • TN Min lashes out at Governor Ravi over Raj Bhavan remarks on jawan’s killing

TN Min lashes out at Governor Ravi over Raj Bhavan remarks on jawan’s killing

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Minister K Ponmudy on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on R N Ravi over the Raj Bhavan’s remarks on the killing of an army jawan and also over the Governor’s comments about Karl Marx.

Ponmudy, the State Higher Education Minister, took exception to the Raj Bhavan making remarks on the jawan killing with a “political viewpoint.”

Lance Naik M Prabhu of Krishnagiri district was earlier attacked by a DMK councillor and some others and he succumbed to the injuries, and the Raj Bhavan had on Tuesday put out a tweet on its official Twitter handle saying the killing was a matter of “serious concern.”

While the state police was firmly dealing the matter legally (the DMK councillor has been arrested), “one has to consider that putting out Twitter messages on the Raj Bhavan’s official handle with a political viewpoint is nothing but a mischievous act,” Ponmudy said in a statement.

He said Prabhu was killed in a domestic dispute but the BJP was making it an issue for “media publicity.”

The protest by some ex-servicemen here on Tuesday, with the support of the BJP’s state unit was part of this where some of the former army men made objectionable remarks, Ponmudy alleged.

While the Raj Bhavan had highlighted the meeting of the ex-servicemen with the Governor and their plea on Twitter, “when will it reveal the status of the Assembly bill banning online gambling,” he asked.

The bill was reflective of the united voice of the people of the State, he added.

Referring to Ravi’s criticism on Karl Marx, Ponmudy said Marx’s communism proposed equality and argued against discrimination of any kind and that this would certainly be a “bitter pill” for many.

Ravi was “behaving like a child” in a Constitutional post and this amounts to “insulting” the Constitution.

He should stop putting out social media messages like a politician and focus on his work, the Minister added.

He also recalled the recent controversy surrounding the Tamil Nadu vs Tamizhagam name debate triggered by Ravi and referred to the public outcry, even as he charged the Governor with repeatedly making remarks not conforming to the Constitution and its provisions.

Telangana: Sharmila lashes out at KCR for not holding R-Day parade

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana Party chief Y S Sharmila came down heavily on chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for attempting to cancel the full-fledged Republic Day parade and other celebratory activities.

Sharmila hoisted the national flag at the YSRTP office premises here on Thursday.

Attacking KCR, she accused him of disrespecting the Indian Constitution. “His utter disrespect towards the Indian Constitution is yet again evident in his reluctance to conduct a full-fledged Republic Day event at Parade Grounds. What a shameful irony, he dishonors the Constitution of the country, and then dreams to rule the country!” she said.

She also asked why the ‘promises’ made by KCR during the formative days of Telangana is not yet fulfilled. “This is the same KCR who, by taking Constitutional cover often, sparked off the Telangana sentiment and became chief minister. Today, he shows scant respect for the Constitution, by breaching every promise he had made. What stops him from keeping his promises, from making a CM Dalit to building double-bedroom houses or giving one job per family to giving zero-interest loans to women?” she asked.
