  • Kashmiri Roganjosh Lands Celebrated British Chef In Controversy

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Celebrity chef and television host, Gordon Ramsay found himself in controversy after he tried his hands on rogan Josh, a mutton dish that traces its origin to Kashmir.

Rogan josh is a staple of Kashmiri cuisine and is one of the main dishes of the Kashmiri multicourse meal (the wazwan).

“Introducing the new, fragrant Lamb Rogan Josh from @breadstreetkitchen – served with saffron rice and warm garlic naan!” the chef wrote as he shared a video on his instagram on March 12.

Chef Ramsay can be seen plating lamb rogan josh that he served with naan.

The video has garnered millions of views since being posted on the social media with people criticising Ramsay for ‘ improperly’ cooking the mutton delicacy.

Awww Ramsey! Looks nothing like a rogan josh, instagram users quipped.

A Kashmiri instagram user was quick to point out the problems in this dish and wrote, “That’s not rogan josh. The cut of the meat is wrong. The gravy is wrong. Even the naan is wrong. Being a Kashmiri who cooks and loves rogan josh, I can’t accept this dish, especially the gravy.”

“If I am served this I will just leave. You are not even close to Rogan Josh. The consistency makes me feel sick,” wrote another user pointed out.

One of the users reminded Gordon Ramsay of not using microgreens in Rogan Josh, “This is not rogan josh. This is mutton served in gravy. Also, authentic Kashmiri Rogan Josh is never garnished with microgreens.”

Some even accused the chef of “whitewashing” their cuisine.

Another netizen said, “Rogan literally means the pool of oil in which the dish is cooked and at the end of the cooking, it is supposed to float on top of the dish when served. The one shown here looks like some generic gravy made with tomato.”

Traditionally, rogan josh is made with lamb, mutton, or goat meat and is coloured and flavoured primarily by alkanet root and Kashmiri chilies. It is one of the signature recipes of Kashmiri cuisine.

Karnataka BJP infighting: Senior min V Somanna lands in Delhi

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The infighting within Karnataka’s ruling BJP came out in open as Housing Minister V. Somanna, who is reportedly miffed with former CM B.S. Yediyurappa and his son B.Y. Vijayendra for meddling, reached New Delhi on Wednesday to meet senior party leaders.

The minister, who is in-charge for Chamarajanagar, remained absent from the ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ in the district attended by BJP national President J.P. Nadda and also kept distance from the party activities. His son Arun Somanna, without taking his name, attacked Vijayendra on a public platform.

Somanna is likely to meet Union Minister for Mine, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi and other senior leaders. Sources said that he is going to seek clarity on his position and seek a stop to interference by Yediyurappa and his son Vijayendra.

A Lingayat leader and brought to the BJP by Yediyurappa, Somanna did not back Yediyurappa when he left the BJP to form his Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) and since then both leaders are at loggerheads.

“Straight talk will land you in trouble. I am not here to plead before anyone. I know how to behave appropriately and I can’t giggle simply. I have practised direct politics. The truth is bitter under present circumstances.

“Yediyurappa is a big leader. I won’t talk about him. You ask him how the situation was 15 years ago? He should also notice who is contributing to the party,” Somanna told media persons.

Asked if he is in New Delhi to complain on Vijayendra, Somanna said that Vijayendra is just the son of Yediyurappa. “What is his age to compare him with me? There are many leaders of his age with me. Yediyurappa has not spoken to me. If he wants to talk, I will go to him. I don’t hate Yediyurappa,” he said.

Sources claim that Somanna is all set to join the Congress as the BJP is not giving concrete promises about his future. The Congress has, on the other hand, given him the offer of a prominent post for him and his son Arun Somanna if he quits the BJP. The Congress is thinking of gaining upper hand in at least 10 assembly constituencies in Bengaluru if it manages to lure him to its side.

Yediyurappa has stated that he would talk to him and ensure that Somanna remains in BJP. But, after Somanna’s statement, he has not made any attempt to talk to him, sources said.

  • Bollywood Returns: Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt Starrer ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ Crew Lands in Kashmir

    [ad_1]

    Suhail Khan | Asif Iqbal

Srinagar, Mar 4 (GNS): After a hiatus of over three decades, the Indian film industry – Bollywood is making strides towards Kashmir to shoot scenes in a bid to generate an aura of uniqueness and affinity with an otherwise largely disgruntled audience.

Kashmir, known for its beauty all across once used to be an easy to go destination for many Bollywood directors for a large part of the second half of twentieth century given its proximity to industry hub Mumbai and nonetheless because of its unparalleled and enchanting beauty. However the industry people almost stopped visiting here due to the onset of insurgency which also resulted in shutting of cinemas setup in the length and breadth of the valley.

It nevertheless was last year that incumbent Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched a new film policy at a star-studded event in the presence of actor Amir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani at SKICC, to give a new lease of hope and to attract the industry people back towards Kashmir.

The film policy, Sinha opined is aimed to transform Jammu Kashmir into the most preferred destination for the entertainment industry, reviving its halcyon days of being a cinematographer’s delight and bringing back the golden era of film shooting in the region besides maximizing the potential of promising local talent and creating livelihood opportunities for many.

“I invite filmmakers from across the world to come to Jammu and Kashmir and capture its pristine beauty through their lens. And, also avail the host of fiscal incentives, world-class facilities offered by the Jammu and Kashmir government,” Sinha said on the occasion.

Subsequently Sinha inaugurated the first multiplex in the valley, which of late has been driving many people to revive their interest towards the Bollywood industry.

Seemingly taking a cue from the green light from UT administration, Karan Johar directed “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” crew has landed in world famous ski-resort Gulmarg to shoot one of the movie’s song.

The song, as learnt by GNS, will be a tribute to the late filmmaker Yash Chopra. Ranveer and Alia will recreate the looks of Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor from the film Chandini, directed by ace director Yash Chopra in the late 1980s. Alia will be seen donning chiffon sarees’, while Ranveer, for a change, will be seen in formal attire.

It is believed that Karan Johar wanted to film the song in Switzerland, but after Alia Bhatt’s personal reasons, he moved it to Kashmir as the film maker believes that snow has the same feel in Kashmir as it has in Switzerland.

It has been learnt that several bollywood directors are mulling over and rather are already in talks with the administration to seek go-ahead to shoot scenes of their movies at different places in the Valley.

“Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” is expected to bring the audience back to watch Bollywood, which otherwise has being going through a lean phase, except for a silverline in the form of recently released Shahrukh Khan starrer ‘Pathaan’. (GNS)

  • Saudi’s cube-shaped project lands in controversy over ‘replicating Kaaba’

Saudi’s cube-shaped project lands in controversy over ‘replicating Kaaba’

    [ad_1]

“The Mukaab” — a huge cube-shaped structure project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given rise to controversy on social media platforms for its resemblance to the ‘Kaaba’ which is Islam’s holiest site in Makkah.

The controversy began after Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, announced the launch of the New Murabba Development Company on Thursday, February 16, which aims to develop “the world’s largest modern downtown in Riyadh”.

The huge golden cube, which has a capacity of 20 buildings the size of New York’s Empire State Building, plans to integrate residential units, entertainment spaces, hotels and restaurants into the city of the future.

However, the design caused an uproar online due to its cubic shape, with many saying it was an attempt by the Saudi authorities to take the focus away from the Kaaba in Makkah.

Some people allege that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is building “a separate Kaaba for himself, which is for entertainment.”

“Is Mohamed bin Salman building his own Kaaba in Riyadh? This is the design he has chosen for his latest project; a new “Kaaba” of entertainment!! Surely only a wretched individual would choose a holy design for such an unholy purpose!!” Author, Chairman of Almustakillah TV, Dr Mohammad al-Hachimi al-Hamidi, who is a PhD from the University of London tweeted.

“When Bin Salman stood on top of the holy Kaaba in Mecca in 2019, it was almost symbolic of his intention to subjugate the Islamic influences in #SaudiArabia. Today he has embarked on another symbolic challenge in announcing plans to build a new ‘Kaaba’ of entertainment”, Sami Hamdi, a commentator on MENA, tweeted.

Intercept reporter Murtaza Hussain joined in questioning the choice of design, saying, “Building a new Kaaba exclusively devoted to capitalism is a little too on the nose.”

The user also claimed that Saudi Arabia tries to minimize reverence and respect for other buildings by creating such structures.

“It appears [the crown prince] is building his Kaaba. Will he enforce it as the new qibla for worshippers?” another tweeted.

However, other social media users, including those from Saudi Arabia, responded to the criticism. “Why are foreign Muslims so easy to manipulate?” asked one user.

“If every cubic-shaped building is ‘a new Kaaba’, you will find millions of kaabas in Riyadh, because we have a lot of cubic-shaped buildings.”

As per a report by Arab News, in July 2006, a story in Arabic was shared that someone is deliberately mocking Islam by building another Kaaba in New York, only the cube-shaped building will not be not for the God-fearing devotees, but a 24-hour nightclub 24/7 which – according to translated stories – would be “Makkah” for visitors to New York.

Later it became clear that the building was neither a nightclub nor a replica of the Kaaba. It was, however, the iconic cube-shaped Apple flagship store on New York’s 5th Avenue.

Because earlier images showed that the glass sides of the cube-shaped shop covered with a protective black layer caused an absolutely false story to spread like wildfire, due to the colour resemblance of the actual Kaaba.

“There’s a fascinating plot twist when you compare the two stories – the Apple Store versus The Mukaab. In the second, the land of this so-called diabolical plot is no longer “the infidels” United States of America, but the Kingdom which is the cradle of Islam,” Arab News reported.

It is reported that the reasons for these claims are, of course, an attempt to discredit and cast doubt on the huge and impressive reforms of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
