3 more houses damaged due to ‘sinking’ of land in J-K’s Ramban

    [ad_1]

Ramban: Three more residential houses and a 33-kV power transmission line were damaged due to “sinking” of land in the hilly Duksar Dalwa village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials said on Monday.

A team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) is visiting the village on Tuesday to ascertain the reasons for the sudden “sinking” of land, which has so far rendered 16 families homeless besides damaging a 500-metre stretch of now closed Sangaldan-Gool road, the officials said.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mussarat Islam visited the village and interacted with the affected families, assuring them of every possible help from the administration in their rehabilitation.

He directed the Gool Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tanveer-ul-Majeed Wani, to process relief cases of damaged houses on war-footing under SDRF to provide assistance to victims in the shortest possible time.

Islam said a total of 16 affected families have been shifted to safer places, besides providing tents, blankets and utensils to them.

The land sinking in the village started on Friday and so far 16 houses were damaged, with three of them developing cracks on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

The GSI experts are scheduled to arrive at Duksar on Tuesday to ascertain the reasons behind the sinking of land, the officials said, adding the electricity supply to a dozen panchayats in Gool was snapped following damage to the 33-kV power transmission line passing through the village.

The deputy commissioner also inspected the Dharam-Salballa road to use it as a temporary alternate route for regulating essential services and supplies to Gool and directed the Public Works Department to make the road traffic worthy.

He also passed the directions to officers concerned for the restoration of power and water supply in affected areas, the officials said, adding directions were given for quick relaying of the 33 KV network so that power supply to Gool is restored.

Cong claims Rahul’s plane denied permission to land at Varanasi airport

    [ad_1]

Varanasi: The Congress has claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s plane was denied permission to land at the airport here late Monday night, a charge denied by the airport authorities.

Senior Congress leader Ajay Rai on Tuesday alleged that Gandhi’s plane was scheduled to land at the Babat airport here on his return from Wayanad in Kerala.

Rai said he and other party leaders were at the airport to receive their leader but his plane was not allowed to land “at the last minute.” Gandhi then returned to the national capital.

However, Varanasi airport director Aryama Sanyal told PTI that there was no prior information about Gandhi’s arrival.

The director denied the allegation that they had refused permission for Gandhi’s plane to land.

The air traffic controller was told that the plan to land at the airport has been cancelled, Sanyal said.

The former Congress chief was scheduled to visit Prayagraj for a function at the Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Rai said.

Hyderabad: Tollywood star Rana Daggubati, father named in land grabbing case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Tollywood star Rana Daggubati and his father, noted film producer D. Suresh Babu, have landed in legal trouble in a case of alleged land grabbing here.

The ‘Baahubali’ actor and his father have been named in the case filed by local businessman Pramod Kumar, who has alleged that father and son are pressuring him to vacate land that belongs to him.

The third additional chief metropolitan magistrate court at Nampally in the city has issued summons to them in this matter.

According to the complaint, the disputed land in Shaikpet was leased out to him in 2014 by Suresh Babu. When the lease ended, Suresh Babu allegedly decided to sell the property to him for Rs 18 crore and a deal was struck.

Pramod Kumar claims that while he has made a payment of Rs 5 crore towards the deal, Suresh Babu has not bothered to complete sale and registration processes. The complainant has alleged that before the matter could be resolved, Suresh Babu transferred the property to his son Rana’s name.

  • Govt can’t act as robber of citizens’ land, says Karnataka HC

Govt can’t act as robber of citizens’ land, says Karnataka HC

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: In a setback to the ruling BJP, the Karnataka High Court on Saturday stated that the government can’t act as “a robber of citizens’ land”.

A bench headed by Justice Krishna S. Dixit made these observations while partly allowing the petition filed by M.V. Guruprasad, Nandini M. Guruprasad and residents of J.P. Nagar locality of Bengaluru.

The court also objected to the conduct of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and its officers fell short of the fairness standard expected from them as it took severe objection to the fact of non-payment of compensation to land owners even 15 years after acquisition of their lands for setting up industries in 2007.

It maintained that the conduct of KIADB reinforces the shackles of a feudalistic attitude from which the transformative character of our Constitution seeks to liberate.

The petitioners filed a petition in 2016, questioning the land acquisition and non-payment of compensation by KIADB. In return, the government agency had filed its statement in this regard making a casual intimation to the court that there is delay in payment of compensation, and it would be made soon.

  • Darjeeling politics: Bengal govt to grant land deeds to tea garden workers

Darjeeling politics: Bengal govt to grant land deeds to tea garden workers

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: As the fresh political equation in the hills of Darjeeling involving the trio of Bimal Gurung, Ajay Edwards and Binoy Tamang is becoming a major threat to the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM)-Trinamool Congress alliance, quick granting of land deeds to the people of the hills is going to be the tool for the later to combat the trio.

After returning to the hills on Friday from Kolkata after a series of meetings with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other ministers of the state cabinet, the BGPM chief and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA)’s chief executive Anit Thapa told the media persons that the state government has assured him of quick beginning and completion of the process of granting of prajapattas (land deeds) to the tea garden workers residing on the land leased by the garden owners from the state government.

“The process of the review on this count will be completed in the next 10 days, following which the distribution of the prajapattas will start. The chief minister has personally assured me on this count. This is great news for the tea garden workers, whose demand for prajapattas was long standing,” Thapa told mediapersons.

It was learnt that since the majority of the tea gardens are located on land leased by the state government, there were some technical problems in granting land deeds to the workers residing there.

Before every election, there had been promises of granting land deeds in the hills, which were hardly fulfilled.

However, estranged Trinamool Congress leader, Binay Tamang claimed that this promise of granting of land deeds was yet another gimmick by the state government and BGPM before the panchayat polls this year.

Hamro Party founder Ajay Edwards too said that since GTA has failed in fulfilling each and every promise it made before, the people of the hills have no trust in the fresh promise, on granting of land deeds.

“What GTA and the state government has done is sheer politics and playing with the sentiments of the tea garden workers,” he said.

Govt Orders Ban On Sale Of Land Belonging To ‘Missing Persons’

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The administration has issued another order and asked tehsildars to make sure that agricultural land of missing people is not sold by their family members or that crop proceeds are not used by any third party.

This comes as the crackdown on properties in Jammu and Kashmir that are allegedly encroaching government land continues.

“It has been brought to my notice that in Tehsil Tangmarg that there are some land patches, belongs to those persons who are not traceable,” reads the order issued by the divisional commissioner Kashmir.

“In such situation the Standing Order No:23-A is clearly stipulates that for a period of more than 7 years, whenever any land holder is absent from the village and does not cultivate the land or do not take share of the produce, he shall be designated as “GAIR HAZIR/GAIR KABIZ” (not present / not in occupation) and the person who is in possession the land, is to be recorded as “KABIZ”.In such a situation, after making reasonable efforts/ enquiry; the concerned Tehsildar shall presume that he is dead and pass orders on the case accordingly. “The share of such “GAIR HAZIR/GAIR KABIZ” persons may be allowed to be used by the family members/ other co-sharers (in blood relation). However, they shall not be entitled to sell, gift or in any manner alienate the share of such “GAIR HAZIR/GAIR KABIZ” persons or create 3rd party interest in the property in any manner.
