Telangana: Palm oil cultivation to be increased to 2 lakh acres

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana agriculture department is set to increase the area under palm oil cultivation to 10 lakh acres in the next four years and plans to cultivate palm oil in 2 lakh acres in the year 2023-24.

The government has issued orders allocating factory zones for the expansion of oil palm in the newly identified areas of the state. So far an area of 9.49 lakh acres has been notified for the cultivation of these crops.

The government is providing assistance to take up oil palm cultivation with 50% assistance on mechanisation and plans to take up oil palm cultivation on a mission mode as part of crop diversification, said a government press release here on Monday.

Telangana ranks first in the country in Oil Production Percentage (OER) with 19.32 per cent in 2021-22. Among the oilseed crops, palm oil is the highest yield with 10-12 tons per acre, for a period of 25-30 years.

The government pays a subsidy of up to Rs 50,918 per acre for oil palm plantations, ownership intercropping and micro-irrigation for the first four years.

According to the release, the area under oil palm cultivation in India is about 9.25 lakh acres. The country’s annual production of crude palm oil is 2.90 lakh metric tonnes, whereas the demand is estimated at more than 100 lakh metric tonnes. This deficit is met through imports.

In 2021-22, under various schemes, nearly 68,440 acres have been brought under oil palm cultivation.

In 2022-23, 61,277 acres have been brought under oil palm cultivation. The government has released Rs 107.43 crore as the first installment for the implementation of this scheme, out of which Rs 82 crore has been given as a subsidy to farmers and companies, the release said.

Telangana requires about 3.66 lakh tonnes of palm oil. The current production is 52,666 tonnes. Two processing units are functioning in the state, one at Aswaraopeta and the other at Apparaopeta village, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Dammapet Mandal,

Telangana: 2 lakh women receive refund of 217 cr in SHG accounts

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Around two lakh Self Help Group (SHGs) women in the State have received a refund of Rs 217.61 crore after Finance Minister T Harish Rao instructed bankers to verify the SHG loan accounts.

The move comes after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ordered banks to charge a concessional interest rate of 7% for loans, upto Rs 3 lakh for rural SHGs and 10% for loans beyond Rs 5 lakh, whichever is lower.

Following the RBI guidelines, a state-level bankers committee (SLBC) meeting was held on December 23 last year where Rao instructed them to refund excess interest if collected.

“Harish Rao has learned that a few banks have not complied with this law and have instead accrued higher interest. Even within the same bank, there were variations in the interest rates that were collected. The pastor discovered that the self-help group members were losing money by paying exorbitant interest rates,” a press release said.

  • Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

    [ad_1]

Thane: In a bizarre crime spree, thieves apparently lurked freely among thousands of devotees, including women, at a 2-day spiritual congregation addressed by self-styled ‘guru’, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri at Mira Road town and targetted many women attending.

According to the Mira Road police, after the 26-year-old Shastri’s discourses ended, at least three dozen women have lodged complaints of their gold chains being stolen during the two-day congregation.

As per the complaints, the victims have lost their gold chains, mostly ‘mangalsutras’, weighing between 5 gm to 25 gms, either made in pure gold or with other metals.

The Mira Road Police have pegged the total value of the stolen booty at a staggering Rs 4,87,000!

The event of Shastri – which had sparked off a political row here – was held at the sprawling Salasar Central Park grounds, attracting more than 200,000 devotees, including a large number of women.

At one point, due to poor management, it led to a near-stampede on Saturday in which one woman devotee was injured after which the local police had started security checks and crowd control at the entry points to the venue.

Many women had been lured by Shastri’s purported “miracles” and “healing powers”, and had come in hopes of some cure, but some returned not only disappointed but minus their gold chains/mangalsutras, said an official.

The organisers, the Shantaben Mithalal Jain Charitable Trust, had invited Shastri – the head priest of Bagesgwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur – for the event even as some rationalist groups had opposed it and written to police not to grant permission.

Besieged with so many complaints, the Mira Road Police have lodged a common FIR for the first three dozen women victims, and are scanning the CCTV footage of the venue to identify the chain-snatchers in the huge crowds and catch the culprits.

A former Apple employee, who bought the original iPhone when it was released, placed it for sale on RR Auction.

An “undiscovered” Apple-1 computer was also sold by RR Auction for an undisclosed sum, along with other Apple products and memorabilia that fetched high prices.

Last month, it was reported that a first-generation iPhone had sold for a record-breaking price of $63,356 (approx Rs 52,00,000) at an auction, the highest sale ever recorded for an original 2007 iPhone.

Meanwhile, in August last year, an unopened first-generation 2007 iPhone in a sealed box had been sold for $35,000 (nearly Rs 28 lakh) in an auction in the US.
