    [ad_1]

New Delhi: “Nari shakti” and women empowerment dominated the theme of tableaux of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Tripura at the Republic Day parade here on Thursday.

Kerala presented the tableau of “Nari Shakti and Folk Traditions of Women Empowerment” which includes Kalaripayattu, a martial art with more than 2,000 years of history, percussion and tribal traditions.

Kerala has the highest women’s literacy rate in the country and has the world’s largest women’s self-help network, Kudumbashree.

The tableau connected women’s empowerment with the literacy mission.

The tractor portrayed Karthyayani Amma, the winner of Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2020 who topped the literacy examination at the age of 96. Nanchiyamma, the first tribal woman to bag the national film award in 2022 for best playback singing is seen saluting the nation.

Women are performing Kalaripayattu and the legendary Unni Archa who is known for expertise in Kalaripayattu in Kerala’s folklore is portrayed at the top.

Tribal dance from the Irula community is shown on the sides and Kudumbashree activities are showcased at the back portion.

Karnataka’s tableau also celebrated the power of nari shakti. Sulagitti Narasamma, a midwife, Tulsi Gowda Halakki, known as Vruksha Maate (mother of trees), and Salumarada Thimmakka (Thimmakka of a row of trees) have become noted names due to their selfless contributions to the society.

The Centre honoured them with the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, for their outstanding achievement.

In the foreground of the tableau was Sulagitti Narasamma, a midwife, rocking the cradle with a baby in it and playing with the children in her arms.

Narasamma is an expert in performing deliveries in a traditional way in the absence of skilled doctors. More than two thousand such deliveries have been performed by her in the last seven decades.

At the centre of the tableau was Tulsi Gowda Halakki, nurturing the plants. Tulsi is an expert in identifying and cultivating rare species of plants. She has the credit of planting more than 30,000 saplings. This is shown in the form of her sitting amidst the plants and nurturing them.

The last part of the tableau showed Salumarada Thimmakka, a tree planter, who planted 8,000 trees and watered them with the help of her husband along highways.

Tamil Nadu’s tableau was based on women’s empowerment and the culture of the state which prevailed from the Sangam era to the present day.

The front portion of the tableau showcased a statue of poet Avvaiyar, an icon for intellectual women. She wrote “Aathichoodi” and “Kondraiventhan” amongst several other finest poems. She is also known as a noble and worshipable saint of exponential morality.

On either side of the front portion, the statue of Veeramangal Velu Naachiar riding on a horse is placed. She was the queen of Sivaganga (1780-90), who stood as an epitome of bravery and waged war against the East India Company.

The middle portion of the tableau showcased statues of eminent women personalities namely Carnatic singer M S Subbulakhsmi, the great Bharatanatyam exponent Tanjore Balasaraswati, social reformer and doctor Muthulakhmi Reddy, author and political activist of the Dravidian Movement Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar and Pappammal, a popular organic farmer still active at the age of 105 in her agriculture field.

The rear portion of the tableau showcased the replica of Thanjavur Brihadeeswarar Temple built by Chola King Rajaraja Chozhan.

The temple is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the ground, the artists were seen performing Karagaattam, along with a group of musicians in traditional attire playing Kombu (Horn), Naadaswaram and Thavil.

The tableau of Maharashtra on the background of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav presented “Sade Tin Shaktipithe and Nari Shakti”.

Goddesses are considered sources of power, reflected through this tableau. In the front part of the tableau, the Ghondali associated with the goddess can be seen playing the instrument sambal. On the main body, one can see replicas of three and a half Shaktipeeths.

At the centre of the tableau, there is a folk art form Potraj and Aaradhi, associated with the goddess. A Maharashtrian woman depicted on the back side of the tableau represented feminine power.

Apart from that, folk art forms such as Bhop Bhutye, Jogwa are also shown on the tableau.

Tripura tableau’s theme also revolved around women’s power. It highlighted sustainable livelihood through tourism and organic farming in Tripura with the active participation of women.

The tableau depicted the Mahamuni Pagoda (Buddhist stupa) at the front. The middle part showed various indigenous performing art forms of Tripura such as homgiri momitete.

The composite culture of Tripura and the participation of women in different fields were depicted through self-help groups women at work, women with baskets of pineapples, cottage, tea plantation workers and women dressed in colourful traditional costumes walking alongside the tableau.

UAE hints at huge investment in Pakistan amid economic turmoil

    [ad_1]

Islamabad: United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has dropped clues that his government is planning to broaden its investment footprint in Pakistan as the country drastically needs foreign inflows to prop up its deteriorating economy.

The royal dignitary arrived in Pakistan on a private visit and held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who received the UAE President at the Chandna Airport along with other government functionaries, Geo News reported.

“Be prepared, the UAE will make a huge investment in Pakistan,” the sources quoted the UAE president as saying during a cordial meeting with the premier at the airport.

Shehbaz recalled his recent visit to the gulf country and emphasised that both countries would work on the understanding reached between the two leaders in various fields, during his visit to the UAE.

The UAE President said that the brotherly relations between the two countries went back many decades and his father, who had immense love for Pakistan and its people, laid the foundation of their bilateral ties.

The President also assured the Prime Minister that the UAE would always stand by Pakistan, Geo News reported.

Taking to Twitter, the premier wrote: “Extremely delighted to receive my brother His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed on his arrival in Pakistan, which is his second home. Building on our last meeting, we discussed ways (and) means to further strengthen our brotherly relations.”

The President expressed warm affection towards the prime minister on his arrival in Pakistan and took the premier to his personal jet, sources told Geo News.

The premier also met the family members of the president and held conversations with his children in the English and Arabic language, the sources added.

The UAE, on January 12, agreed to lend $1 billion to Pakistan and roll over an existing $2 billion loan, the country’s information minister had said, as the country’s central bank foreign reserves fell to just three weeks’ worth of imports.

The UAE’s financial support offered some respite to the country that is still reeling from devastating nationwide floods that have caused more than $30 billion of damage, Geo News reported.

Adani evaluating remedial and punitive action against Hindenburg Research

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The maliciously mischievous, unresearched report published by Hindenburg Research on January 24 has adversely affected the Adani Group, our shareholders and investors, the Adani Group said in a statement on Thursday.

“The volatility in Indian stock markets created by the report is of great concern and has led to unwanted anguish for Indian citizens”, Jatin Jalundhwala, Group Head, Legal, Adani, said.

“Clearly, the report and its unsubstantiated contents were designed to have a deleterious effect on the share values of Adani Group companies as Hindenburg Research, by their own admission, is positioned to benefit from a slide in Adani shares,” he said.

“We hold short positions in Adani Group Companies through US-traded bonds and non-Indian-traded derivatives, along with other non-Indian-traded reference securities”, Hindenburg Research had disclosed.

“We are deeply disturbed by this intentional and reckless attempt by a foreign entity to mislead the investor community and the general public, undermine the goodwill and reputation of the Adani Group and its leaders, and sabotage the FPO (Follow-on Public Offering) from Adani Enterprises. We are evaluating the relevant provisions under US and Indian laws for remedial and punitive action against Hindenburg Research,” the Adani Group said.

Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy slams KCR over ACD charges in open letter

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: TPCC president A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday wrote an open letter to state chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on his decision to ‘burden the common man’ with Advance Consumption Demand (ACD) charges.

Revanth alleged that the state government was ‘extorting’ money from the common people to make up for a ‘bankrupt treasury’.

Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSNPDCL) said that 7.16 lakh consumers who failed to pay their bills will be subjected to Advance Consumption Demand (ACD) charges.

The power distribution company’s chairman and managing director A Gopal Rao on Thursday said that the pending bills in Telangana totalled about Rs 305 crore.

“The decision was in line with the guidelines issued by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) and notices regarding ACD charges were issued in January,” remarked the director.

“At a time when people are suffering due to the impact of COVID-19, the state government is imposing an additional burden on citizens who are already forced to pay education taxes, green taxes, development taxes, and so on,” the TPCC chief said.

Revanth Reddy stated in the letter that the state government would witness a repeat of the Basheerbagh protest of August 2000 if the government didn’t withdraw this decision.

“Why are the power companies suffering losses of Rs 60,000 crore when KCR claims to provide a 24×7 power supply to farmers?” he asked.

He pointed out that ACD charges were only imposed on customers in north Telangana.

“The state government has taken up the Yadadri power project for the commission’s sake, resulting in an additional burden of Rs 40,000 crore on the people,” he alleged.

“The decision was in line with the guidelines issued by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) and notices regarding ACD charges were issued in January,” remarked the director.

Gopal Rao further informed that the interest on the ACD charges would be calculated as per RBI guidelines and would be adjusted in the consumer’s bill.

“The TSNPDCL has been collecting ACD, a refundable security charge from consumers by asking them to pay an amount equal to their electricity bill for two months,” added Gopal Rao.

“ACD is based on the monthly average power consumed by each consumer for a year and collected in order to provide better services to consumers,” said the director.

Dismission rumours being circulated on social media regarding ACD, Gopal Rao said that the TSNPDCL has not planned to increase the power tariff and claimed the news to be baseless.

  • UP’s R-Day tableau depicts Lord Ram, Ayodhya Deepotsav

UP’s R-Day tableau depicts Lord Ram, Ayodhya Deepotsav

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh’s tableau which rolled down the Kartavya Path during the 74th Republic Day parade depicted Lord Ram and Goddess Sita being welcomed by the people of Ayodhya on their return from exile, and the Deepotsav celebrations in the temple town.

A grand Ram temple is currently under construction in Ayodhya and massive scale road-widening and other projects are also being undertaken in the Uttar Pradesh town.

Twenty-three tableaux — 17 from states and Union territories and six from various ministries and departments — depicting India’s vibrant cultural heritage, and economic and social progress are part of the parade on the Kartavya Path, Defence Ministry officials had earlier said.

Uttar Pradesh’s tableau depicts Lord Ram and Goddess Sita being welcomed by the people of Ayodhya on their return from exile, according to a senior official of the state’s information and public relations department.

Ayodhya Deepotsav is the main theme of Uttar Pradesh in its Republic Day tableau, a senior defence official had earlier said.

“The side panels of the tableau depict ‘Ram Ki Paidi’ on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya and a big ‘Deepotsav Dwar’ has been erected. It also has a sculpture of Maha Rishi Vasishtha,” an Uttar Pradesh government official said.

This is the first Republic Day celebrations at the ceremonial boulevard after the historic Rajath was named to Kartavya Path last year.

Uttar Pradesh has been winning as the best tableau in the parade for the last two years.

The spiritual city of Varanasi with Kashi Vishwanath Dham was the centrepiece of Uttar Pradesh’s tableau in the 73rd Republic Day Parade on Rajpath in 2022.

The first phase of the mega project, was dedicated to the people by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 13 last year and is expected to boost tourism in the holy town that is said to be one of the oldest cities in the world.

In 2021, the state’s tableau had depicted ancient city Ayodhya’s heritage and the Ram temple, during the ceremonial Republic Day parade on January 26.

The bedecked tableau was fronted by a sitting model of Maharishi Valmiki and the temple model was on the rear side.
