KCR has no right to live in this country: Bandi Sanjay

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Hoisting the tricolour at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Hyderabad on Thursday, state BJP president Bandi Sanjay attacked the chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) by saying he has no ‘moral right’ to live in this country.

Addressing the party functionaries Sanjay said KCR had humiliated Dr B R Ambedkar by not arranging the Republic Day celebrations at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, despite directions from the state High Court.

He also accused the CM for repeatedly insulting the Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

“KCR has been inviting the chief ministers of other states to prop up his BRS, but does he have the guts to ask them not to invite the governors of their respective states to the Republic Day celebrations?” Sanjay asked.

Sanjay added the BJP would strive for a democratic Telangana with the spirit of Dr B R Ambedkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sirens across Ukraine as authorities report Russian attacks

KYIV: Ukrainian officials said Thursday that Russia has launched a wave of missile and self-exploding drone attacks on the country.

Air raid sirens wailed nationwide, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or of the missiles and drones striking targets.

The head of the Kyiv city administration said that 15 cruise missiles were shot down.

Serhii Popko said the missiles were fired “in the direction of Kyiv” but did not clarify if the capital itself was a target. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said explosions were heard in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district, on the east side of the river that divides the city.

The attacks came after Germany and the United States announced Wednesday that they will send advanced battle tanks to Ukraine, offering what one expert called an “armored punching force” to help Kyiv break combat stalemates as the Russian invasion enters its 12th month.

Telangana: Sharmila lashes out at KCR for not holding R-Day parade

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana Party chief Y S Sharmila came down heavily on chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for attempting to cancel the full-fledged Republic Day parade and other celebratory activities.

Sharmila hoisted the national flag at the YSRTP office premises here on Thursday.

Attacking KCR, she accused him of disrespecting the Indian Constitution. “His utter disrespect towards the Indian Constitution is yet again evident in his reluctance to conduct a full-fledged Republic Day event at Parade Grounds. What a shameful irony, he dishonors the Constitution of the country, and then dreams to rule the country!” she said.

She also asked why the ‘promises’ made by KCR during the formative days of Telangana is not yet fulfilled. “This is the same KCR who, by taking Constitutional cover often, sparked off the Telangana sentiment and became chief minister. Today, he shows scant respect for the Constitution, by breaching every promise he had made. What stops him from keeping his promises, from making a CM Dalit to building double-bedroom houses or giving one job per family to giving zero-interest loans to women?” she asked.

‘New buildings are not for development, nation building is’: Telangana Governor

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said that everyone should have an equal share in development while addressing the Republic Day event on Thursday at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad.
The Governor unfurled the national flag which was followed by the national anthem.

Soundararajan while addressing the event stated, “Chairman of the drafting committee of our Constitution BR Ambedkar said there must not be a class that has got all the privileges and a class that has got all the burdens to carry.”

“New buildings are not for development, nation building is for development,” Soundararajan said.

“All the farmers and the marginalised people should have farms and houses, few should not have farmhouses. That is not the development. Everyone should have an equal share in the development,” added Soundararajan emphasising the importance and meaning of development in her speech.

The Governor also paid respect to the freedom fighters and the members of the Constituent Assembly. She said, “There were great personalities and stalwarts of great intellect, wisdom and vision in our constituent assembly.”

In the event, the Governor also felicitated Golden Globes award-winning and Oscars nominated ‘Naatu Naatu’ song’s composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose at the Republic Day function in Hyderabad.

However, the Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao skipped the Republic Day celebrations.

The week-long celebrations commenced on 23rd January, the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. To mark the occasion, a one-of-a-kind Military Tattoo and Tribal Dance Festival ‘Aadi Shaurya – Parv Parakram ka’ was organised in New Delhi on January 23 and 24. The events will culminate on 30th January, which is observed as Martyrs’ Day.

  • BBC documentary on PM is conspiracy against India: Goa Governor

BBC documentary on PM is conspiracy against India: Goa Governor

    [ad_1]

Panaji: A BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots that has sparked controversy is a “conspiracy” against India, said Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday.

The “character assassination of the prime minister” amounts to an onslaught, insult and a malicious act against the country, said the governor during his address after inspecting a Republic Day parade near Panaji.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has criticised the documentary titled “India: The Modi Question” as a “propaganda piece” that lacks objectivity and reflects a colonial mindset.

Governor Pillai said that the present controversy was “ill-motivated”, adding in the same breath that he was “not criticising Britain which is one of the friendly countries of India now”.

Unlike a common citizen who can approach the court in case of character assassination, the PM, President, Vice President and ministers have to be represented by public prosecutors in such cases, he said. “This means character assassination of the Prime Minister amounts to an onslaught, an insult, a malicious act against the country. That is why I would like to say BBC’s present act is not good,” he said.

The governor said that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is not an independent organisation. “It is answerable to British Parliament. I am not blaming the British government but there’s some conspiracy against India,” he said.

Pillai said that he does not want to go much into the present circumstances but after PM Modi “became the head of the G20 group”, he has given a call for “one world, one family, one future”.

India has taken over the presidency – which rotates annually between members – of the Group of Twenty countries.

Talking to reporters later, the governor said that under the system of law followed by “us and the conventions”, an attack or character assassination of the PM would amount to an attack on the sovereignty of the country.

In this case, the governor, the “attack” on the PM is also a challenge to the Indian Judiciary. “Indian Judiciary is the finest in the world. They had monitored this case (Gujarat riots) and there is nothing to connect the PM to it, not even a whisper is against him,” he said.

  • Chhattisgarh CM Baghel announces allowance for unemployed youth

Chhattisgarh CM Baghel announces allowance for unemployed youth

    [ad_1]

Jagdalpur: In a major announcement ahead of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls due this year-end, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said unemployed youth will be given a monthly allowance in the state from the next financial year.

It was one of the key promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls, following which the party returned to power in the state after a gap of 15 years.

Addressing people on the occasion of the Republic Day on Thursday after unfurling the national flag at the Lalbag Parade grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state to strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy.

The CM further said factories located in industrial areas developed by the Industries Department will be exempted from property tax.

He also made a number of other announcements, including setting up of an aerocity near Raipur airport, housing assistance scheme for labourers and a scheme to promote women entrepreneurship, apparently eyeing the Assembly elections.

“Unemployed youth will be given an unemployment allowance every month from the next financial year (2023-24),” Baghel said without specifying the amount.

An aerocity will be developed near the Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, to enhance passenger facilities, commercial development of the airport area and employment generation, he said.

Construction workers registered with the Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for a period of three years will be given a grant of Rs 50,000 for building their houses, he said.

To strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy, and to increase employment and the income of people in rural pockets, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state.

Besides, a new scheme will also be brought to encourage women groups, women entrepreneurs, and businesswomen to launch start-ups and set up industries, he said.

Baghel asserted that the state government was determined to preserve the tribal culture and festivals.
An aid of Rs 10,000 will be provided every year to each gram panchayat for organising festivals of tribal communities in the tribal-dominated Bastar and Surguja divisions and scheduled areas of the state from the next financial year, he said.
Besides, Chhattisgarh State Innovation Commission will be constituted with an aim to promote innovation for the development of the state, he said.

A riverfront will be developed along the Kharun river which flows on the outskirts of the capital Raipur bordering Durg district, he said.

Baghel said the Ramayan and Manas Mandli Mahotsav will be held in the state and Maa Kaushlaya Mahotsav will be organised in Chandkhuri, where Mata Kaushlya temple is located, every year.

According to research scholars, Chandkhuri, situated in Raipur district, is the birthplace of Mata Kaushalya and the temple there is the only one in the world dedicated to her.

The temple has been renovated and beautified by the Congress government as a part of its ambitious ‘Ram Van Gaman’ tourism circuit project under which all significant places in the state which Lord Ram is believed to have visited during his exile are being developed as places of tourist attraction.

  • Congress leader Antony falls silent after son’s tryst with BBC documentary

Congress leader Antony falls silent after son’s tryst with BBC documentary

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: One of Congress’s top-notch leader A K Antony has reportedly gone into a shell after his son Anil Antony quit his party post, alleging “intolerant calls to retract a tweet”, in which he had defied his party line and criticised a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, terming it a “dangerous precedent”.

According to those in the know of things, 82-year-old Antony, who currently holds the record of being the longest-serving Defence Minister in the country, is deeply upset over a remark made by his junior colleague Jairam Ramesh.

Without naming, Ramesh drew a comparison between former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy’s son — Chandy Oommen — and Antony’s son Anil Antony.

“A tale of two sons of two CMs from the same state. One is a Bharat Yatri and walking tirelessly, mostly barefoot to unite our nation in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The other is reveling in his day in the Sun today having ignored his duties to the party and the yatra,” the former Union minister Ramesh wrote on his Twitter handle.

After his term ended in the Upper House in April last year, Antony returned to the state capital to his house here.

Since then, other than his occasional visits to the office in the state party headquarters, he is rarely seen in public party functions. During a recent party meeting, he asked all in the party presently divided as always amongst various faction leaders to keep aside all differences and focus on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Antony, who is known for always keeping a low profile, is also known for his sensitive nature.

A media critic on condition of anonymity said Antony is perhaps going through a very tough time because of the way his son reacted.

“Knowing the Congress leaders’ mindset, it can be said that the attack is not against Anil, but against Antony. When in Delhi, Antony has always wielded the sword of discipline against erring state leaders by prevailing upon the party’s high command. And when it came to the distribution of party tickets, his was the last word. The ground rule in the state unit of the party in the past over two decades was never to rub Antony on the wrong way,” said the critic.

Incidentally, yesterday when he came to attend a private function, Antony ducked the media’s questions on his son saying that he is in a private function.

Now all eyes will be on the ongoing Assembly session as the treasury benches will lose no chance to hit the Congress-led opposition when they take Antony and his son’s statement to checkmate the opposition.

UP: Four-year-old girl killed as six houses collapse in Agra

    [ad_1]

Agra: A four-year-old girl was killed and a few others were injured as six houses collapsed in Agra in Uttar Pradesh Thursday morning due to excavation work in a nearby dharamshala, police said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Vikas Kumar, the incident took place around 7 am.

Excavation work was going on in a dharamshala in Tila Maithan locality near Agra City Railway Station. Under its impact, six houses and one temple collapsed, the police officer said.

“Three persons were trapped under the debris. They were identified as Vivek Kumar and his two daughters — Videhi (5) and Rusali (4),” the police officer said.

They were taken to a hospital where Rusali died.

Manoj Verma, another resident whose house collapsed in the incident, told PTI, “With the grace of god the incident happened in the morning when very few people were in their houses. Had it happened at night, many people would have been trapped.”

The police officer said they are investigating the matter.

  • Four candidates move Gujarat HC to challenge Assembly poll results

Four candidates move Gujarat HC to challenge Assembly poll results

    [ad_1]

Ahmedabad: Two candidates each from the BJP and Congress have moved the Gujarat High Court to challenge the state Assembly poll results.

The petitioners — BJP’s Harshad Ribadiya (Visavadar constituency), Hitesh Vasava (Dediyapada) and Congress candidates Lalit Kagathara (Tankara) and Raghu Desai from Radhanpur constituency — common grievances are that winning candidates have either left many subjects unfilled or concealed some important information from the Election Commission.

They alleged that such candidates’ nomination forms should have been rejected by the returning officer, which did not happen.

In his plea, former Congress MLA Lalit Kagathara said that BJP’s candidate and now MLA Durlabhji Devariya had not given details about his educational qualification, there is incomplete information about property owned by the candidate, though he owns car, yet he has not declared it in the affidavit. For concealing information, returning office should have rejected his candidature.

Whereas BJP Harshad Ribadiya’s grievance is that AAP’s elected MLA Bhupat Bhayani is facing charges of corruption and trial for siphoning off public money, but he had not disclosed the information while filing candidature, yet, returning officer approved his candidature and post elections, declared him elected.

The petitioners seek to nullify the election results in their respective constituencies.
