  • Tollywood Tiff: NBK denies being disrespectful of Nageswara Rao

Tollywood Tiff: NBK denies being disrespectful of Nageswara Rao

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Tollywood star N. Balakrishna, better known as NBK, on Thursday denied making derogatory comments about late legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

Stating that he has a lot of respect for Nageswara Rao, the actor-politician said he did not use any word intentionally while referring to the late actor.

At the success meet of his latest release “Veera Simha Reddy”, Balakrishna’s comment about Nageswara Rao had triggered a row.

Talking about his father, late former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and creator of the Telugu Desam Party, N.T. Rama Rao, Balakrishna had said rather dismissively: “My father had some contemporaries, Ranga Rao (S. V. Ranga Rao), Akkineni, Thokkineni, and some others.”

Nageswara Rao’s grandsons — Akkineni Naga Chaitanya and his brother Akhil Akkineni — posted a statement on Twitter in reaction to Balakrishna’s remark.

They said: “Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao garu, Akkineni Nageswara Rao garu and S.V Ranga Rao garu’s creative contributions have been the pride and pillars of Telugu Cinema. Disrespecting them is degrading ourselves.”

With Nageswara Rao’s family reacting to the actor’s comment, NBK has come out with the clarification. He claimed that Nageswara Rao used to love him more than his own children and he too used to address him as uncle.

  • Why Pak is demanding reversal of abrogation of Art 370 for resuming dialogue with India

Why Pak is demanding reversal of abrogation of Art 370 for resuming dialogue with India

    [ad_1]

Ever since Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made an offer to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to hold “serious and sincere” talks to resolve burning issues, including Kashmir, on January 16, there has been a lot of buzz as to how the two countries should resume their long- suspended dialogue to ease the relations. Within a day after Sharif made this offer, during the course of an interview with the UAE based TV network, “Al-Arabiya”, Pakistan PM’s office stated that there cannot be any dialogue with India unless or until Delhi reverses all the decisions on August 5, 2019.

The August 5, 2019 decisions made by New Delhi can be decoded quite easily. The Special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, granted and guaranteed by Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, was scrapped. All the symbols of special status – separate constitution, separate flag and all-powerful state legislature which had the powers to frame its own laws, facilitate or stall the federal laws,- were done away with. Alongside, the special privileges of the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir to have sole right to their land and jobs were also withdrawn. That, in simple words, translated this complicated situation, that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, on this side of the Line of Control were Indianized” in all senses of the words. They were as privileged or ordinary citizens as the people in the rest of the country.

Why Pakistan is insisting on the reversal of the  August 5, 2019 decisions and making it as a condition for resumption of the dialogue with India. The nation that had been calling for the implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir, that is, to grant right to self-determination to the people of  Jammu and Kashmir, scaled down its demand to the restoration of the special status and the statehood. There is a method in this. Pakistan was never in favour of Article 370 which determined the constitutional relation between J&K and Delhi until August 5, 2019. Sudden love for  Article 370 of the Indian constitution, are based on its own logics. It fears that Kashmir would lose its Muslim-majority character as the new laws have opened floodgates for Indians from other parts of the country to buy land and set up their businesses.  Pakistan has always counted, the Muslim-majority character of Jammu and Kashmir, as an asset. It had made the similar argument in 1947 while claiming that the state should be part of Pakistan.  The Muslim-majority character of J&K also gives it a  religion-driven argument to highlight Kashmir issue.

Islamabad, no doubt, has sensed that the Indianization of the Kashmiri Muslims in fullest terms, would leave it with no stakes on Kashmir and it may find edged out of the whole discourse and discussions on Kashmir. It wants to inflict on the growing sense of the Indianness in J&K  The optics have started changing already. It is difficult to discern that all this is voluntary or manifestation of some kind of inner feelings, but the fact remains that greatest symbol of Indian nationalism- the national tricolor, is becoming visible almost everywhere in the Valley. There is no challenge to it. These optics have become more pronounced and profound when contrasted with the past, and also that how the world has come to see Kashmir in the post-Article 370 abrogation. All the fears that Kashmir will be a land red with blood once its special status is revoked have come untrue. People exercised their wisdom, avoided clashes  and saved themselves from death and destruction.

Pakistan is angry over it, and that’s why it is making all sorts of excuses in  suppressing prospects of dialogue with India

  • Ahobilam Mutt temple: SC refuses to entertain plea against AP HC order

Ahobilam Mutt temple: SC refuses to entertain plea against AP HC order

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: “Let the religious people deal with it,” the Supreme Court said on Friday while refusing to entertain a plea against an Andhra Pradesh High Court order holding that the state of Andhra Pradesh had no authority under law to appoint an executive officer to the Ahobilam mutt temple.

A bench of Justices S K Kaul and A S Oka said Andhra Pradesh has no authority, jurisdiction or entitlement under law to appoint an executive officer of the ‘Sri Ahobila Mutt Parampara Aadheena Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam’ (Ahobilam Mutt Temple).

“Let the religious people handle this. In every case under Article 136 (special leave to appeal by the Supreme Court), we need not try to settle the law. Sorry,” the bench told the lawyer appearing for the state that had challenged the high court order.

One petition before the high court stated that the Ahobilam temple, situated in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, has been under the control of Sri Ahobilam Mutt, which is based in Tamil Nadu, since time immemorial.

The state of Andhra Pradesh and others had challenged the October 13, 2022, high court order, which said the Ahobilam temple is an “integral and inseparable part of the Ahobilam Math, which was established as a part of the propagation of Hindu religion and for rendering spiritual service for propagating Sri Vaishnavism”.

The high court had said appointing an executive officer for the temple, which is a part of the Mutt, is violative of Article 26(d) of the Constitution as it affects the right of administration of Jeeyars’/Mathadipathis.

The high court had passed the order on separate petitions questioning the appointment of an executive officer of the ‘Devasthanam’.

The state claimed in its plea that the high court had erred in holding that the Commissioner of the Endowments department does not possess the power to appoint an executive officer to take charge of the administration of the temple under section 29 of the Andhra Pradesh Religious Endowments and Charitable Institutions Act 1987 simply because the temple is affiliated with the Ahobilam Mutt.

“The high court failed to appreciate that the subject temple and the Ahobilam Math are distinct, independent juristic persons and thus, the subject temple’s inclusion in the definition of ‘Math’ is simply incongruous,” it said.

  • Help me get my 44-day wage: A gardener, among special invitees at R-Day parade, to PM

Help me get my 44-day wage: A gardener, among special invitees at R-Day parade, to PM

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A gardener by profession, Sukh Nandan, was among the special invitees to watch this year’s Republic Day parade at the revamped Kartavya Path.

Several workers and labourers, engaged in the construction work of the Central Vista project and maintenance activities around the India Gate and along the Kartavya Path, were offered special passes to attend the parade.

They were allocated enclosure number 17 which was right opposite the saluting dais (on the other side of the Kartavya Path) where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu among other dignitaries were seated.

Nandan, who hails from the Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh, was delighted to share his experience of seeing the PM from such a close distance. He said he was thrilled when the PM went close to the enclosure and waved at them.

“I felt fortunate to be a part of the function. I had never thought that I would be chosen to be among the special guests,” the 44-year-old said.

However, when asked what would he have asked the prime minister if given chance, he said, “My last contractor refused to pay wages for 44-day work. I will request PM Modi ji to help me get my wages.”

Nandan has been working in the horticulture department at the India Gate for the past two months. Earlier, he was employed at Andhra Bhawan under a contractor.

“He refused to pay my salary for 44 days of work. I have a copy of the attendance register which proves that I was present on those 44 days,” Nandan, who lives in the makeshift tents near India Gate with his wife and two children, said.

“Despite that, the contractor is not ready to release my salary which I deserve. Now, I have also refused to return his brush cutter which I had kept. I have told him that unless he pays my dues, I will not return the brush cutter,” he added.

The local bodies outsource various labour-intensive work to private contractors who hire labourers with a promise to pay at the rate fixed by the government.

Many a time these workers are subjected to exploitation and are denied pay by the contractors on one pretext or the other. They can’t take recourse under the legal system as they neither have the money nor the time and awareness to do that.

According to Nandan, the monthly wage for gardeners fixed by the local municipal bodies is Rs 14,586. “At this rate, my total dues stand at approximately Rs 21,000,” he said, adding that the contractor had offered to pay Rs 6,000 only.

“Now he often threatens me of FIR for taking his brush cutter. I will really be grateful if I get any help from the government,” Nandan said, heaping praise on his present contractor for timely payment.

When contacted, Nandan’s former contractor Jiten Upadhyay admitted not paying the wages, saying that there is a dispute on the pending amount.

“I don’t think his dues are Rs 21,000. Also, besides the brush cutter, he has kept other plumbing equipment too which he has to return first,” he alleged.
