Telangana: Complaint filed against BRS MLC for remarks on Governor

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Members of the BJP Mahila Morcha (BMM) here on Friday lodged a complaint with the chairperson of the Telangana State women’s commission against BRS MLC Kaushik Reddy for using “obscene language” against Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Kaushik Reddy had passed comments against the Telangana Governor for delaying the signing of bills passed by the state legislature, the video of which has gone viral. “According to K. Geetha Murthy, state president of the BMM, the video which has become viral on social media, shows Kaushik Reddy uttering derogatory phrases in Telugu targeting the governor on the issue.

In the viral video Kaushik Reddy reportedly said, “Today you are speaking, I am asking which Constitution is the Governor following. KCR government is elected by people and all MLAs and MLC is has passed the bills and you are keeping them under your buttocks.” BJP and the BMM has since then condemned his statements.

“As the governor is the constitutional head and the first citizen of the state, due respect should be given to the post and when the post is adorned by a lady, due respect has to be given while addressing her. As the language used by Mr Kaushik Reddy is very derogatory and used to demean the governors dignity intentionally and consciously, BJP Janata Mahila Morcha request your authority to take cognizance of the attendance of the said MLC and suitable action be taken that lest anybody, leave alone the ruling party representatives, resort to such heinous behaviour,” wrote Geetha Murthy in her complaint.

Earth to have close encounter with small asteroid this week

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: An asteroid, about the size of a box truck, will have a very close encounter with the Earth this week, NASA Systems has predicted.

The asteroid, called Asteroid 2023, is expected to fly over South America. During its flight, the asteroid is predicted to be only 2,200 miles above Earth’s surface, making it the closest in recorded history, according to NASA.

However, the space agency said that there is no risk of the asteroid impacting Earth, and even if it did, the small asteroid, which is estimated to be 11.5 to 28 feet (3.5 to 8.5 metres) across, would disintegrate harmlessly in the atmosphere, with some of the larger debris potentially falling as small meteorites.

The asteroid was initially spotted by amateur astronomer Gennadiy Borisov on Saturday and reported to the Minor Planet Center (MPC).

NASA’s Scout impact hazard assessment system was then used to analyse MPC’s data and predict the near miss.

“Scout quickly ruled out 2023 BU as an impactor, but despite the very few observations, it was nonetheless able to predict that the asteroid would make an extraordinarily close approach with Earth,” Davide Farnocchia, a navigation engineer at JPL who developed Scout, said in a statement.

“In fact, this is one of the closest approaches by a known near-Earth object ever recorded,” he added.

Although this asteroid poses no threat to Earth, NASA has been focusing on building planetary defences against them.

  • AAP urges EC to curb ‘allurements’ by politicians in Karnataka

AAP urges EC to curb ‘allurements’ by politicians in Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has submitted a complaint to the State Election Commission of Karnataka, seeking “severe punishment” against political parties that are enticing voters with incentives such as cookers, sarees, bangles, and silver Ganesha idols.

“It is challenging to identify when and where corrupt politicians distribute items such as cookers and sarees to voters,” AAP’s Karnataka unit working president Mohan Dasari said while addressing the media on Friday.

“Our honest volunteers were able to investigate and uncover such instances. Despite the difficulties, we were able to convince voters to return the items and bring them to light. It’s concerning that politicians are giving away items like silver Ganesha idols, leading to questions about the fairness of the election. The Election Commission needs to take immediate action against these practices,” he added.

“The BJP, Congress, and the JD-S are undermining the principles of democracy by offering gifts to voters,” Dasari said.

Stating that voters should make their decisions based on the background, ideology, accomplishments, and promises of politicians, not by the gifts they receive, the AAP leader said: “These politicians are using the tax money of the public, which they have looted during their tenure, to bribe voters. The public should not be swayed by such tactics and instead vote for honesty and integrity.”

“Politicians are taking advantage of the fact that the model code of conduct is only enforced once the election process begins. They are offering bribes even before the code of conduct is in place.

“To ensure a fair election, the Election Commission should take action to stop these bribes before the model code of conduct comes into effect. There should be an investigation to reveal the source of the funds used to make these lavish offers,” he added.

  • Pune techie murder case: All accused including Hindu group leader acquitted

Pune techie murder case: All accused including Hindu group leader acquitted

    [ad_1]

Pune: Nine years after the murder of an IT professional Mohsin Shaikh rocked Maharashtra, a Pune Sessions Court acquitted all 20 accused including the Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) President Dhananjay Desai, here on Friday.

Reading out the verdict on Friday, Pune Additional Sessions Judge S.B. Salunkhe said that the evidence brought on record was not strong enough to convict Desai and other co-accused and the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubts, lawyer Sudhir Shah said for one of the accused.

“It was a conspiracy to frame me and the police were misused… I was innocent,” Desai remarked briefly after the court verdict.

Shaikh, 28, had allegedly posted some objectionable content on social media pertaining to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the late Balasaheb Thackeray and others, which resulted in protests and violence in Unnatnagar and surroundings of Hadapsar, on June 2, 2014.

At that time, Shaikh, who hailed from Solapur, was returning home with his friend Riyaz A. Shendrare after offering prayers in a mosque and was targeted by some motorcycle-borne men armed with hockey sticks, cricket bats, stones and other weapons, who created mayhem in the vicinity, attacking people and properties.

Seriously hurt in the attack by a cricket bat blow, Shaikh died while under treatment in hospital, and his brother Mobin Shaikh lodged an FIR.

In his complaint, Mobin stated that the attackers intercepted his brother Mohsin and his friend Riyaz at Satav Plot around 9.15 p.m. as he sported a beard and wore a light-green Pathani suit.

After investigations, the Pune Police charged Desai of inciting passions through inflammatory speeches in January and March 2014 in Manjari and Lonikalbhor areas in Hadapsar.

A total of 21 people, including a minor, all said to be HRS activists, were nabbed in the case and all secured bail later, as their lawyers argued about political motives, with the state assembly elections which were due then.

Taking strong cognizance, the government of the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had appointed eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, Special Public Prosecutor, but after objections from some groups, he finally opted out in May 2017.

Later, the government appointed the District Government Pleader Ujjwala Pawar as the SPP and after her retirement, Dhaigude Patil continued the matter.

The Sessions Court verdict on Friday has evoked sharp reactions from various political parties in the state.

Maharashtra: Shinde-Fadnavis govt ‘erases’ Tipu Sultan’s name from Mumbai playground

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: In a potentially controversial move, the Maharashtra government has ordered the removal of Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the Mysore kingdom, now in Karnataka, given to a prominent suburban garden and playground by the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Making the announcement, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mumbai Suburban District Guardian Minister M.P. Lodha said the decision was taken recently at a meeting with the Collector.

“Finally, victory of the Right! Ordered removal of name Tipu Sultan from the park in Malad after considering protests by Sakal Hindu Samaj and demands by BJP MP Gopal Shetty,” said Lodha.

He said in the DPDC meeting last year, the previous MVA government had decided to name the park after Tipu Sultan and the BJP had protested the move.

However, after dropping Tipu Sultan’s name, the government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has not yet decided on its renaming, the Minister added.

The former MVA Minister Aslam Shaikh had revamped the park, included many amenities and sports facilities for the locals and it was named as ‘Shaheed Tipu Sultan Playground’ in January 2022, ahead of the BMC elections, which got postponed.

Sultan Fateh Ali Tipu (1751-1799), famed as just ‘Tipu Sultan’, ruled the Mysore kingdom from 1782 onwards till his rout and death in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War (1798-1799).
