KCR cheated Muslims on 12 pc reservations: Revanth Reddy

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Revanth Reddy visited Warangal Assembly Constituency on the second day of his ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra’. He started the campaign from Daulatabad at 10 am and met the people. A meeting of key leaders of Daulatabad mandal was convened in which the campaign was reviewed.

While addressing the public meetings, Revanth Reddy highlighted the failures of the BRS and BJP governments. He urged the party workers to start preparing for the elections from now on as the next government will be of the Congress. He said the BRS government was harassing Congress leaders through false cases.

Revanth Reddy said that Muslims and tribal communities have been cheated in the name of reservation. “KCR had promised 12 percent reservation to Muslims, but no serious action was taken in this regard, even the existing four percent reservation for Muslims was not being implemented”, he alleged.

Revanth Reddy said the BJP and the BRS were creating an atmosphere of hatred in the country while the Congress had launched a Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra to end hatred.

He said that the development works he had carried out as an MLA in Kodangal remain the same even today. However, the KCR government has ignored Kodangal’s development, he alleged.

He said Sonia Gandhi has given him the opportunity to sign B-forms for 119 assembly constituencies. He said Congress workers must be ready to fight against the failures of the government. There has been a secret understanding between the BRS and the BJP to weaken the Congress.

Revanth Reddy claimed that Congress will form government in Telangana from January 1, 2024. He said congress workers should prepare for the struggle against the injustices of the government.

Hyderabad: Mir Alam Tank’s cable bridge plan comes to standstill

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) announced a plan to construct the city’s second cable bridge at Mir Alam Tank in the old city in December 2021. Several announcements were made by the Municipal Administration Department in this regard and it was claimed that with the construction of the second cable bridge in the city of Hyderabad, tourism activities will be increased.

The department had announced the commencement of construction work of the cable bridge at a cost of Rs 220 crore, but since then there has been no progress in this project. It is being said that unless the budget for these works is released, steps to start development works are not possible.

Ten months after the HMDA sought a detailed report for the construction of the cable bridge at Mir Alam Tank, experts handed over it and the authority announced to approve the project, however, the inauguration ceremony of the project was not held so far.

The construction of the cable bridge at Mir Alam Tank will not only record an increase in tourism activities but will also provide a lot of facilities to the people of the surrounding areas. The 2.5 km cable bridge will also provide a lot of relief to pedestrians.

  • Afghanistan: Taliban orders ban on female students in university entrance exams

Afghanistan: Taliban orders ban on female students in university entrance exams

    [ad_1]

Kabul: In the latest decree, the Taliban has banned female students from sitting in university entrance exams which are slated to take place next month, the Afghan news agency TOLOnews reported.

The Taliban Ministry of Higher Education has sent a notice to the universities which state that the girls cannot apply for the exams until further notice. Apparently, they have banned girls from registering for the 1402 (solar year) university entrance exam.

The decision was followed by another decree from the caretaker government prohibiting women from working in non-governmental organisations, which sparked outrage on both the national and international levels, TOLOnews reported.

After the Taliban ordered an indefinite ban on university education for Afghan girls, several humanitarian organizations, including Education Cannot Wait (ECW), a United Nations global, billion-dollar fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises called on the Taliban authorities in Kabul to revoke their decision to suspend the university education of Afghan women.

Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation met earlier this month to discuss the Afghan caretaker government’s decision to restrict females’ access to education and work at non-governmental organisations.

Many Islamic countries and organisations, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have condemned the ban on women’s and girls’ access to work and education as a violation of Islamic law.

Since August 15, 2021, the de facto authorities have barred girls from attending secondary school, restricted women and girls’ freedom of movement, excluded women from most areas of the workforce and banned women from using parks, gyms and public bath houses. These restrictions culminate with the confinement of Afghan women and girls to the four walls of their homes.

The complainant paid Rs 16,38,379- against the booking of a commercial unit to the builder executing an agreement in September 2013 – accordingly, the promoter had committed to deliver the unit in four years.

The allottee had booked a retail shop in the project of ISH Realtors Private Limited at Sector 109, Gurugram.

The total sale consideration of the said unit was Rs 41,69,280 – and the due date for the handing over of the possession was September 2017. The project has been delayed inordinately.

“The Authority directs the promoter to return the amount Rs 16,38,379 – with interest at the rate of 10.60 per cent as prescribed under Rule 15 of the Haryana Real Estate Regulation and Development Rules 2017 from the date of each payment till the actual date of refund of the amount within the timelines as provided in rule 16 of the Haryana Rules 2017,” said the court disposing of the matter.

  • Renaming Mughal Gardens: Shredding signs of colonialism, says BJP

Renaming Mughal Gardens: Shredding signs of colonialism, says BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP Saturday said the renaming of the iconic gardens in Rashtrapati Bhavan as ‘Amrit Udyan’ shreds yet another symbol of colonialism while the opposition parties advised the government to focus on creating jobs and controlling inflation instead.

The Congress did not officially react to the name change but the Trinamool Congress and CPI rubbished the move with the Left party terming it an “attempt to rewrite history”.

Rashtrapati Bhavan’s famed Mughal Gardens will now be known as ‘Amrit Udyan’. The resplendent gardens are open to the public once a year and people can visit from January 31 this time.

Union ministers and BJP leaders hailed the decision as a move towards a “new India”.

“Welcome and thank Hon’ble President Droupadi Murmu Ji for renaming the iconic gardens at the President House as ‘Amrit Udyan.’

“This new name not only shreds yet another symbol of a colonial relic but also reflects India’s aspirations for the Amrit Kaal,” Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Twitter.

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, in a tweet, said, “Our Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu Ji sets an example by renaming the iconic gardens at the President House as ‘Amrit Udyan.’”

“A powerful symbol of our nation’s progress and a reflection of a brighter future for New India,” he said.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh welcomed the decision while Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar thanked the prime minister, saying, “My country is changing.”

The government had last year renamed Delhi’s famed Rajpath as “Kartavya Path”. The renaming of the stretch and other institutions is in line with the Centre’s effort to remove any trace of the colonial mindset, the government has maintained.

However, the opposition said the government should focus on job creation and controlling inflation instead.

“Who knows, they might now want to rename the Eden Gardens and call it Modi Gardens! They should focus on creating jobs, controlling inflation and protecting the precious resources of LIC and SBI,” Trinamool Congress’ Parliamentary party leader in the Rajya Sabha Derek O’Brien told PTI.

CPI general secretary D Raja said this name change has been going on for quite some time and “no one knows when it will end”.

“The RSS’ agenda is to rewrite Indian history and redefine nationhood. When we celebrate our Republic, it is for the people to stand up and safeguard our secular, democratic Indian Republic. India is not a theocracy, India is a democracy,” he said.

Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi sarcastically said the move will “give relief” to people troubled by the falling Adani shares.

“Adani’s shares were falling and the credibility of the government too. Giving immediate relief to the troubled public, the government has changed the name of ‘Mughal Garden’ to ‘Amrit Udyan’,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Former Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore welcomed the decision to change the name, saying, “The country is changing! The new India of Amrit Kaal is highlighting the great colours of Indianness by removing the signs of slavery.”

“The Congress had imposed the name Mughal Garden on the world-famous garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Thank you Modi ji for erasing the name of the invading Mughals and making ‘Amrit Udyan’,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Supporting the move, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said on Twitter, “Another historic decision of the Modi government in ‘Amrit Kaal’ to come out of the mindset of slavery. Mughal Gardens in Rashtrapati Bhavan will be named Amrit Udyan now.”

Another BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said, “When a historic decision on naming Mughal Gardens as Amrit Udyan has been taken in a series of steps to rid Bharat of symbols of ‘gulami’, colonial past — true to its DNA, some leaders oppose it displaying they are prisoners of ‘Mughlai/votebank mindset’ (sic).”

President Droupadi Murmu will grace the opening of the gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan — Udyan Utsav 2023 — on Sunday.

On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the President of India is pleased to give a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as Amrit Udyan’, Navika Gupta, Deputy Press Secretary to the President, said in the statement.

ABVP stalls screening of BBC docu on Modi on Andhra University campus

    [ad_1]

Visakhapatnam: The controversy surrounding the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Visakhapatnam with the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) stalling the screening of the documentary on the campus of Andhra University here.

Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) had organised a screening of the contentious documentary on the Andhra University campus on January 27.

However, a group of ABVP activists entered the Satavahana hostel on the campus at 10 p.m. and demanded that the screening of the documentary should be stopped as it is banned in the country.

This led to a minor clash between the supporters of the two groups, eye witnesses said.

The situation was brought under control after the university’s chief warden for arts college hostels, G. Veerraju, and the police reached the spot.

    G. Subbaraju, ABVP’s organising secretary, said that though the documentary is banned in the country, SFI wanted to show it on the University campus, which was against the law, adding that a petition will be submitted to the Vice Chancellor not to encourage such developments on the campus.

However, SFI members claimed that they are not against the Prime Minister, and that the screening was organised in the interest of freedom of expression of the people of this country.

Telangana minister KTR faces heat from NSUI leaders in Nizamabad

    [ad_1]

Nizamabad: A few leaders of the NSUI, the student wing of the Congress party showed black flags and attempted to stop the convoy of Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, IT and Industries KT Rama Rao.

Minister KTR visited Nizamabad to inaugurate several developmental projects.

“Few people from NSUI showed black flags to the convey of Minister KTR. They tried to stop the convoy but we took them into custody. Around 5 to 6 people including Congress corporator Gadugu Rohit have been taken into custody,” Nizamabad Commissioner Nagaraju said.

Hitting out at the minister, Congress corporator Gadugu Rohit had warned that he and his supporters would stop KTR from entering the city.

“Tomorrow Minister KTR is visiting Nizamabad for a few inaugurations and party programs. We are questioning him, how can you come to Nizamabad? Why did you do for Nizamabad? You have not given double-bedroom houses to anyone in Nizamabad urban. You are just playing with the innocent Muslim community. Kavitha who stays here has not brought any money to the municipal corporation. If you have any shame, do not step into Nizamabad. On behalf of the Congress party, we will stop your program tomorrow by any chance. We have the people’s support for this,” Rohit said in a video released by him.

  • Fali Nariman slams Law Minister’s remarks against collegium system

Fali Nariman slams Law Minister’s remarks against collegium system

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing row between the Centre and the judiciary over judges appointment, former Supreme Court Judge Rohinton Fali Nariman, speaking at a public event, slammed Law Minister Kiren Rijiju for his “diatribe” against the collegium system for appointment of judges.

On Centre sitting on candidates recommended by the collegium for judgeship, Justice Nariman termed it “deadly for democracy”.

“This sitting on names is a very deadly thing which is against the democracy of this country. Because what you are merely doing is you are waiting for a particular collegium and hoping that the next collegium changes its mind.”

Nariman was part of the Supreme Court collegium till he retired in August 2021.

He also suggested a 30-day deadline for the government to respond to the recommendations made by the collegium.

Nariman also called for the formation of a special five-judge bench, and a judgment should be passed that when collegium sends a name to the government, and if there is nothing comes the government within a period of 30 days, then it will be taken as it has nothing to say.

Nariman was speaking on Friday at the Mumbai University while delivering the seventh Chief Justice M.C. Chagla Memorial Lecture.

He said if the last bastion of independent judiciary falls, the country would enter the “abyss of a new dark age”, and added that what is the independence of the judiciary if judges, who are fearless and independent, are not appointed.

Nariman said, “If you don’t have fearless and independent judges, say goodbye… There is nothing left. As a matter of fact, according to me, if finally this last bastion falls or is to fall, we would enter the abyss of a new dark age.

“In which, R.K. Laxman’s Common Man will ask himself only one question: If the salt has lost its savour, wherewith shall it be salted?”

The Law Minister had termed the collegium system alien to the Constitution, and had also said that it is “opaque and not transparent”.

Nariman said, “We have heard a diatribe by the Union Law Minister of the day against this process (judges’ appointment). Let me assure the Law Minister that there are very basic constitutional fundamentals he must know. Unlike the United States, a minimum of five unelected judges are trusted with the interpretation of the Constitution.”

He pointed out that judicial appointments in the United States do not involve any decision-making process from the judiciary at all, but India adopted a different approach.

The former apex court judge, on a basic doctrine structure issue, said that in the past over 40 years ago, it was sought to be undone twice and since then not a word has been said against it, except very recently.

“So let us be clear that this is something that has come to stay, and thank god it has come to stay,” Nariman said.

No freedom for Islamic activities in any country like that in India: Muslim scholar

    [ad_1]

Kozhikode: An Islamic scholar in Kerala on Saturday said there is no other country in the world where Islamic activities can be done freely like that in India and such kind of operational freedom is absent even in the so-called Muslim countries.

Speaking at a programme in this northern district, he asked whether there was any other country which grants operational freedom for Muslim outfits like in our country.

The statement of Ponmala Abdul Khader Musliyar, who belongs to the Muslims scholars’ body “Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama” (Samastha), came at a time when discussions are raging about religious freedom of minority communities in the country.

“When you look at the world nations, (you can find that) there is no other country where Islamic activities are being done like that in India. In which countries are these organisational activities possible?” he said.

Even among the familiar Gulf nations like UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia or in eastern countries like Singapore, Malaysia and so on, there is no other country suitable for our (Islamic) activities, he explained.

Musliyar said in India, the Islamic outfits can operate from the grassroot level to any extent and it is not possible even in countries like Qatar, UAE or Saudi Arabia.

Teacher held for assaulting girl student in Rajkot school

    [ad_1]

Rajkot: Rajkot police on Saturday arrested a school teacher, Sagar Vadher, for assaulting a Class 7 girl student at the D.K. School. The incident occurred on Friday.

Inspector R.G. Barot told the media that Vadher has been under under the IPC sections related to assault or criminal force on women, criminal intimidation and various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

School principal Jagruti Patadia told the media that it was an unfortunate incident, and the moment the student’s parents complained over phone, she checked the CCTV footage of the classroom, and on finding that Vadher had assaulted the girl, she immediately informed the police.

Vadher had joined the school just one-and-a-half months ago. The school’s timing is 12 noon to 6 p.m., and mostly the staff stayed back after school hours. But on Friday, Vadher had left the school early.

“The student described her ordeal to her parents on returning home. Had she told us, we would have acted faster,” Patadia said.

The victim’s mother alleged that after returning from school, her daughter looked tense. On inquiry, she said that her teacher had touched her inappropriately.
