New Delhi: Delhi Police have apprehended two accused, including a juvenile, for allegedly stabbing a Class 12 student to death in Southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji area.

According to a senior police officer, at 2.30 p.m. on Monday, information was received at the Kalkaji police station that a youth, named Mohan (18), a resident of JJR camp in Okhla Phase-II, was admitted to the Poornima Sethi Multi Speciality Hospital with stab injury on his chest.

Accordingly, a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on the basis of DD entry in view of the serious nature of the injury.

“The youth was later declared dead, following which Section 302 (murder) was added to the FIR. Mohan was a student of Class 12 at a local government boys’ school,” the officer said.

During the investigation, police found that on January 28, there was a minor scuffle between Mohan and his school friends with the students of another school near the Govindpuri metro station.

“On Monday, a group of students from another school planned to settle their score and reached Hansraj Sethi Park. They had come prepared to assault them. As soon as the victim and other students reached Hansraj Sethi Park, they were assaulted by the other group,” said the official.

The victim was hit and stabbed with a knife in the chest. “On Tuesday one of the accused Shiva Chaudhary (18) and a 15-year-old juvenile were apprehended,” said the official, adding that further investigation of the case is in progress.

Gujarat HC sets up panel to probe denial of medical care to pregnant women

    [ad_1]

Ahmedabad: A division bench of the Gujarat High Court has set up a committee to be headed by retired justice to look into two incidents where pregnant women were allegedly refused medical aid by hospitals.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice A.J. Shastri while hearing a PIL observed on Tuesday, “We will appoint an independent panel, as we are seeing too many such incidents where unless an amount is paid, hospitals don’t admit patients…We want an independent authority to examine the issue.”

The court has appointed a three-member committee, which will be led by retired Justice Harsha Devani of the High Court. The other two members are Dr. Lavina Sinha, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Ahmedabad, who is also a licenced physician, and IAS Ramya Mohan, Mission Director of the National Health Mission. To assist the court on the matter Asim Pandya has been appointed as amicus curiae.

The committee will look into the two incidents in detail, prepare a detailed report and suggest remedies to the court.

A pregnant woman who gave birth outside the hospital on the sidewalk in February 2022 was refused medical attention by L.G. Hospital, which is managed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The newborn died soon after birth.

In another case, a pregnant woman was turned away by a private hospital in January 2022 because she was unable to pay the money. As a result, the woman gave birth on the hospital steps.

Boeing delivers last 747 jumbo jets

    [ad_1]

Washington: More than half a century since the original jumbo jet ushered in a new jet age, Boeing has bid farewell to its 747 jumbo jets or the ‘Queen of the Skies’.

After 53 years since its first delivery, thousands of the company’s current and former employees and guests attended a ceremony on Tuesday in Everett, Washington, to say goodbye to the 1,574th and last Boeing 747 ever built, reports Xinhua news agency.

After the ceremony, the final 747 freighter built for cargo carrier Atlas Air departed from outside the grand assembly plant purpose-built for the 747 in the late 1960s.

The building housed more jet programs and grew to be the largest by volume in the world.

Boeing Everett at a recent peak in 2012 provided more than 40,000 jobs, according to a report by The Seattle Times.

The late Joe Sutter, the chief engineer on the original program, was given the task to design a new jet in August 1965.

The first test plane rolled out of the newly built factory in September 1968 and had its first flight in February 1969.

The first production plane was delivered on January 22, 1970.

The final 747-8 passenger version can carry nearly 470 people on trans-Pacific and other longer-haul routes.

Over the past two decades, airlines switched to the more fuel-efficient, two-engined planes, which leads 747 models out of production.

As of December 2022, there are only 44 passenger versions of the 747 still in service, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.

The figure is down from more than 130 in service as passenger jets at the end of 2019, just before the Covid-19 pandemic crippled demand for air travel, especially on international routes on which the 747 and other widebody jets were primarily used.

Lufthansa remains the largest operator of the passenger version of the B747-8, with 19 in its current fleet.

Wrestling row: Babita Phogat joins oversight committee

    [ad_1]

Delhi: Commonwealth Games gold medallist wrestler Babita Phogat has joined the oversight committee formed to probe the various allegations against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Formed by the Sports Ministry, the oversight committee is carrying out an enquiry into the allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment, intimidation, financial irregularities and administrative lapses of the WFI and its chief.

The allegations were levelled by prominent grapplers such as Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Dahiya.

“Former wrestler Babita Phogat has been added to the panel of the Oversight Committee formed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to undertake the day-to-day administration of the Wrestling Federation of India,” the ministry said in a statement.

Babita is the sixth member of the oversight committee, being headed by legendary boxer MC Mary Kom, and includes former wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, former shuttler Trupti Murgunde, Radhica Sreeman and Rajesh Rajagopalan, ex-CEO, Target Olympic Podium Scheme.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had earlier this month announced the formation of the committee to investigate the charges against the WFI chief and also manage the day-to-day affairs of the sports body.

The tussle between the agitating grapplers and the WFI ended after the athletes called off their protest following assurances from the government.

However, Bajrang, Vinesh, Sarita Mor and Sakshi, who staged a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar for three days demanding the sacking of the WFI president, had also expressed disappointment that they were not consulted before the formation of the committee.

Madras High Court bans unauthorised, illegal fake websites

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday directed that unauthorised and illegal fake websites running in temple names should be banned across Tamil Nadu.

The direction came on a petition seeking to block websites operating in the names of major temples in Tamil Nadu and action against the operators of those websites.

The petition, filed by Subramanian and Markandan, read, “Many people start fake websites in the name of important temples including Chennai Kapaleeswarar Temple, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, Thanjai Periya Temple, Palani Murugan Temple, Srirangam Aranganathar Temple. Devottess give money thinking that the website belongs to the temple and therefore such websites should be blocked.”

“Cybercrime should find out how much money has been collected through those websites and confiscate the amount. The authorized website address of the temples should be made known to the public through the IT department,” said the bench of justices Mahadevan and Sathya Narayana Prasad.

The bench said steps should be taken to perform pujas, and donations through authorised websites. Devotees should be advised to deposit money in the temples or pay through authorised websites.

“If a complaint is received about fake websites, it should be investigated immediately and legal and criminal action should be taken against the operators of fake websites,” the bench said.

The judges stated further that Tamil Nadu temples, like Tirupati and Sabarimala shrines, should be run in a transparent manner.
