Religious ignorance, fanaticism threat to society: KCR in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao participated in the Bhumi Pooja programme of Hare Krishna Heritage Tower in Kokapet on Monday.
He laid the foundation stone in a traditional ceremony and paid tributes to Lord Srila Prabhupada.
Thanking the organisers, KCR spoke about the misuse of religion and the impact it creates in societies. “Religion is universal. There is nothing wrong with religion. Religious ignorance and fanaticism are a threat to us. Religion does not encourage us to make mistakes. But religious stupidity takes all human beings into madness and a trans,” he said.

“Religious madness promotes humans to commit inhuman acts. There is no place for violence in any religion. Religion is the cause of violence all over the world. It is not mentioned in our Hindu religion. Lord Krishna did not say about violence. Some people added religious fanaticism and created a lot of trouble,” he added.
He also thanked Hare Krishna Heritage for supporting the government by providing food to millions of children in the city.

In run-up to Karnataka polls, Rahul minces no words to target BJP over Adani issue

Bengaluru: The campaigning for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls that ended on Monday has witnessed former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi not mincing any words to target the BJP government at the Centre over the Adani issue, besides raising the “issues of corruption under the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government” in the poll-bound state.
The issue around Adani Group gained momentum earlier this year in January when US-based short seller Hindenburg alleged stock manipulation and fraud by the conglomerate.
The Adani Group has attacked Hindenburg as “an unethical short seller” and stated that the report by the New York-based entity was “nothing but a lie”.

Rahul Gandhi, who kicked off his campaign trail from Karnataka’s Kolar on April 16, first raised the issue of the Adani Group in his public meeting.
Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha for his Modi surname remarks he made in Kolar in April 2019 during the Lok Sabha elections campaigning.
He was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP on March 23 this year following his conviction in a defamation case by a Surat court.
Rahul Gandhi raised issues around the Adani Group during his public meetings in Kolar, Humnabad, Vijaypura, Hanjal, Anekal and Mangaluru, besides other issues.
In his speech, Rahul Gandhi said: “They (BJP) do not want me to talk in Parliament. They are afraid that I will raise questions on Adani. They disqualified me from Parliament thinking that I would remain silent and I would be scared. I am not scared. I will again ask the Prime Minister.”

He had said: “Till I get answers, I will not stop. Disqualify me or put me in jail. It will not affect me.”
“In Parliament, I questioned the Prime Minister about his relationship with Adani. First, they switched off my mike and later BJP ministers told lies about me. When I sought to respond as per the right of a member, the Speaker did not allow me. They do not want me to speak in Parliament and hence disqualified me,” Rahul Gandhi had said in his speech in Kolar.
Rahul Gandhi, who addressed 23 public meetings and road shows in poll-bound Karnataka, also highlighted the alleged corruption rampant under the ruling BJP government in the state.
In his every public meeting in the state, he targeted the BJP government over the alleged ’40 per cent commission’ issue.
While addressing a public meeting in Karnataka’s Anekal on May 7, Rahul Gandhi targeted the BJP and said: “For the last three years, there is a BJP government in Karnataka and the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) is aware of corruption here. You only call it a ‘double engine government’. This time, the double engine is stolen.”
“PM Modi, please tell the people of Karnataka, which engine got how much out of 40 per cent commission,” he asked the Prime Minister while addressing a public meeting in Anekal on May 7.
He said that the contractors’ association in Karnataka wrote to the Prime Minister that 40 per cent commission was charged from them but Modi did not reply.
The Congress in Karnataka had designed its campaigning highlighting the corruption in the state government and also launched the PayCM campaign in the run-up to assembly polls.
Rahul Gandhi also highlighted the four promises, which are declared as guarantees for the people of Karnataka, which include — Gruha Jyothi (200 units of free electricity), Gruha Lakshmi-Rs 2,000 monthly to every woman head of the family, Anna Bhagya-10 kg of food grains of their choice (among rice, ragi, jowar, millet) to every person in a BPL family.
Rahul Gandhi also announced to provide free travel to all women in regular Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses.
Even his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too held 26 public meetings and road shows in the state, while Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed 36 public meetings and four press conferences in the poll-bound state.
Kharge, who also hails from Karnataka, has camped in the poll-bound state since April 16 to ensure the victory of the party.
Karnataka Congress in-charge and party general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala had also been camping in the state for last two and half months and had succeeded in keeping the Congress flock together.
Even former Congress president Sonia Gandhi addressed a public meeting in Hubballi on May 6, her first electoral public meeting after a gap of four years.
Polling for the 224-member Assembly is scheduled on May 10 and counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Congress govt in Himachal misused official machinery to win Shimla civic polls, says BJP

Shimla: The BJP on Monday alleged that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh misused the official machinery to win the elections to the Shimla Municipal Corporation.
Sukhram Chaudhary, the party’s Shimla Municipal Corporation election in-charge, said the votes of thousands of people from outside Shimla were registered to influence the polls.
The Congress won 24 of the 34 wards in last week’s Shimla Municipal Corporation election. The BJP won nine wards and the CPI(M) one while the AAP, which had contested from 21 seats, drew a blank.

During a review meeting on Monday, the BJP’s Himachal Pradesh unit chief Rajiv Bindal said the Congress indulged in malpractices to influence the elections from day one.
The roster was fiddled with and over 20,000 new voters were registered, he claimed.
Bindal added that the announcement of jobs regularisation and three per cent dearness allowance were attempts to woo the government employees, who constitute a major chunk of voters in the civic polls.
Expressing his gratitude to the party workers for the efforts they put into the election campaign, the BJP state unit chief exhorted leaders to gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP’s nine winning candidates were also present at the meeting.

Former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur called on the party workers to strengthen the polling booths ahead of the parliamentary elections.

Hyderabad: 26-yr-old engineer ends life in Tappachabutra

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old software engineer died by suicide at Tappachabutra on Sunday morning reportedly over personal issues.
According to Tappachabutra sub-inspector, T Shobha, the deceased, T Blessington, an employee of a software company, jumped from the terrace of his apartment and died on the spot after severe head injuries.
“Blessington had called up his father over the phone and apologised before taking the extreme step. The deceased had revealed to his father that he was disappointed for not achieving the things he aimed for in his life,” SI T Shobha said.

Telangana: Workers union demands compensation, justice for Swiggy rider’s kin

Hyderabad: Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) have demanded justice for the Swiggy delivery boy who lost his life in a tragic road accident on May 5.
Raju, 31, a resident of the Gandhi colony met with a fatal road accident while delivering food in Alwal of Hyderabad following which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. However, he soon succumbed to his injuries.
Being the only earning member of his family, Raju was survived by an old and ailing mother, a wife, and two small children.

Additionally, Raju was also paying for his wife, Soni Rasapuram’s education who is studying first year of B.Ed.
Soon after the accident, the family tried to contact the management at Swiggy. However, they ended up receiving a computer-generated response with none from the company reaching out to the family so far.
TGPWU’s founder and president, Shaik Salauddin who visited the bereaved family on Monday said, “Raju’s death stands completely ignored by the company. The family was left distressed.”

The union has promised the family to step in and negotiate with Swiggy while they demand Rs 25 lakh as compensation in case of death under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 (which is to compensate workers who have encountered injuries due to an accident during their employment).
TGPWU has further demanded that police should file an FIR against the person who had hit Raju in the accident and also facilitate compensation from the accused to Raju’s family.

Accident on May 5
The incident reportedly occurred at night when a speeding car from Kanaji Guda hit a person, and then continued to run until a high-tension pole made it stop.
The incident caused injuries to three people, including Raju who was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Police identified the driver as a software employee who accelerated her car by mistake, while she was supposed to hit the brake to avoid hitting a man who came in front of the car, ending up in a major accident.

Karnataka will elect ‘double-engine govt’: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde

Mangaluru: The people of Karnataka will elect a “double-engine government” to sustain the momentum of development projects implemented by the Centre, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Monday.
Addressing reporters in Udupi on the last day of campaigning for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls, Shinde said two different governments at Centre and state always create hurdles during implementation of major projects.
He said Maharashtra is now taking up projects with the wholehearted cooperation of the central government and Karnataka had also enjoyed the benefits of the “double-engine government” as thousands of crores have been spent by the Centre for the state’s projects in the last four years.

Shinde said development is blocked when two parties opposing each other are at the Centre and the state. “The double engine government is working in Maharashtra and it should be retained in Karnataka also,” he said.
The Maharashtra CM said he had talked with several sections of people in Bengaluru and Mangaluru and was confident that the people would elect a BJP government with a thumping majority.
He said the roadshows and rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi across Karnataka have tilted the balance in favour of BJP. “The Prime Minister has earned for us a proud position in the world including the G20 presidentship with his work,” Shinde said.
Shinde said the importance of Karnataka election is not confined to the state and it is a “national election which should be won with the help of alliance partners” to strengthen the hands of the Prime Minister.
Condemning the opposition attacks on PM Modi, Shinde said all such attacks had boomeranged. The Prime Minister had never bothered to answer such charges, but subsequent elections proved that the people have spoken, he remarked.

On the Congress proposal in its manifesto that Bajrang Dal will be banned if they carry out anti-social activities, Shinde said Bajrang Dal and RSS are “patriotic organisations”.
Regarding the issues between Maharashtra and Karnataka, he said the problems will be resolved as there is a traditional cultural bond between the two states.
Earlier in the day, Shinde visited the Manjunatheswara temple at Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada and offered prayers. He also had a meeting with the Dharmasthala dharmadhikari (traditional administrator) and Rajya Sabha member D Veerendra Heggade.
Polling will take place across the state on May 10 and counting of votes will be on May 13.

Excise scam: Court extends Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 23

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday extended AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 23 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The ED has alleged that Sisodia was the mastermind behind the entire excise policy case and that he had deliberately leaked the policy to the co-accused to generate financial kickbacks.
Sisodia is currently in judicial custody.

The ED had arrested Sisodia on March 9 after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him on February 26 this year.
Last month, Special CBI Judge M. K. Nagpal of Rouse Avenue Court had denied bail to Sisodia, holding that the evidence, prima facie, “speaks volumes” of his involvement in the offence.
Last week, High Court judge Dinesh Kumar Sharma sought the ED’s response to Sisodia’s bail plea and another application seeking interim bail on the ground of his wife’s ill-health and listed the matter for further consideration on May 11.
In the case being probed by the CBI, Delhi court extended Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 12

Hyderabad: Bike taxi rider saves 6-year-old from rape in Errum Manzil

Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl found a good samaritan in a bike taxi rider when the latter saved her from getting raped by a 19-year-old man at Errum Manzil.
According to the Punjagutta police, the incident took place on Friday night when the cab driver was waiting for a pickup. He noticed the accused from a distance beating the girl.
Acting quickly, he intervened. Upon questioning, the accused claimed the girl was his daughter. However, the girl refuted her abuser’s claims and complained about pain in her private parts.

Following this, the cab driver immediately informed the police. The accused, a fruit vendor, was arrested under the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) and sent to judicial remand on Sunday.
“Had the driver not intervened on time, the situation would have been worse,” said a police officer.
The police officer revealed that the accused and the minor were residents of the same local slum. The accused would often force himself on her whenever she was alone, the police officer said.

Hubballi: The Lingayat Forum is a fictional organisation as it does not exist at all, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday.
The Chief Minister told reporters here that Veerashaiva is a very big community and it is not under any organisation. A lot of respect is given to the Veerashaiva Mahasabha, but it is not correct to use any organisation for election purposes.
“If four or five persons say something, does it become the voice of the Lingayats? The Lingayat community is like an ocean. The Lingayat Forum is an organisation that emerged ahead of elections,” he stated.

Bommai said there are no cases against the BJP. The Congress didn’t have any document when the Election Commission asked for it. The Congress leaders who talk about corruption are themselves facing corruption charges and attending courts. With what moral right can they question the BJP?
He said the IT sleuths are in every district and they will have information about where the mistakes happen. The Congress leaders have committed mistakes, what can we do? There will be raids.
The Chief Minister said the BJP’s national leaders have come to Karnataka for all the elections as they have an emotional bond with the people of the state. This will give a big boost to the party.
The campaigning for the May 10 Assembly election ends on Monday.
The Karnataka Lingayita Mattu Veerashaiva Vichara Vedike, a platform of thinkers from the state’s dominant Veerashaiva Lingayat community, gave a call to the community members to defeat the BJP in the elections.
