Supreme Court Upholds EWS 10% Quota In 3:2 Verdict

    [ad_1]

The 103rd Constitutional Amendment, which provides 10% reservation for members of economically weaker sections (EWS) in admissions and government posts, has been upheld by the Supreme Court by a majority of 3:2.

Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Justice Bela M Trivedi, and Justice JB Pardiwala of the five-judge panel that delivered the verdict found in favour of the quota, claiming that the provision on reservation for EWS did not contradict the fundamental principles of the Constitution.

Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, on the other side, voiced his disagreement and overturned the EWS quota amendment. UU Lalit, CJI, agreed with him.

  • China To Send Monkeys Into Space To Study How They Reproduce There: Reports

China To Send Monkeys Into Space To Study How They Reproduce There: Reports

    [ad_1]

To better understand how they develop and reproduce in a zero-gravity environment, China is reportedly planning to send monkeys to its recently launched Tiangong space station. The experiment would be carried out in the largest module of the space station, which is primarily used for life sciences experiments, according to the South China Morning Post, which cited Chinese scientists Zhang Lu, who oversaw scientific research for the space station.

After examining smaller organisms such as fish and snails, Mr. Zhang stated that “some studies involving mice and macaques (monkeys) will now be carried out to see how they grow or even reproduce in space.” He thinks that by conducting these studies, we will learn more about how organisms adapt to microgravity and other space environments.

    • space

According to the report, experts did note that there are still a number of challenges associated with conducting such studies on animals with complex life forms, such as rats and primates. They pointed out that during the Cold War, Soviet researchers were able to train a few mice to overcome their physical limitations and engage in sexual activity for the duration of an 18-day space mission. But none of them gave birth after returning to Earth, and there were no indications of pregnancy.

According to Kehkooi Kee, a professor at Tsinghua University’s school of medicine, the difficulties of conducting a life sciences experiment in space rose exponentially with the size of the animals used. According to the outlet, he continued, “The astronauts will need to feed them and handle the waste.”

The absence of gravity, according to some earlier ground experiments, may harm testicles and other reproductive organs, causing test animals’ levels of the sex hormone to significantly decline.

However, Mr. Kee continued by stating that “these experiments will be necessary” as more countries plan for long-term habitation in orbit around the Moon or Mars and as larger animals, particularly monkeys, exhibited more similarities to humans.

  • “I Will Resign If Found…”, Says Pak PM Shahbaz Sharif On Allegations Of Involvement In The Attack On Imran Khan

“I Will Resign If Found…”, Says Pak PM Shahbaz Sharif On Allegations Of Involvement In The Attack On Imran Khan

    [ad_1]

Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, has stated that he is ready to resign if there is any evidence of the attack that would accuse him or the interior minister. Imran Khan’s claims were denied as baseless by Sharif. He said, “India is celebrating because the institution has been subjected to dirty and offensive attacks on social media,” according to reports.

In a dramatic addition, the prime minister says that God would protect his reputation and that he is offended by Imran Khan’s accusations.

Imran has been in turmoil for a very long period, and Pakistani politics have also been very turbulent. Imran was forced to resign as Pakistan’s prime minister a while back. Imran Khan was the target of gunfire in the interim. The injured man was Pakistan’s previous prime minister. During the Freedom Rally, Imran was the target of firing. In many different areas, there is a lot of pressure and rumour concerning who shot Imran that day. Imran Khan, however, has fueled new allegations that the Pakistani Prime Minister is responsible for the attack.

In a press conference in Lahore, Shahbaz said, ‘I request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a full court commission including senior and junior judges. Chief Justice (Umar Atta) Bandyal, I request you to constitute a full court commission. Will also send you a letter about this and I hope you will consider this request. If you do not respond to my request, such complaints will come again. He also said that if Imran Khan gives proof that I or the Home Minister or an army officer is involved in the conspiracy, then I will not be the Prime Minister from that moment. He said, ‘I will resign.’

  • BJP Promises Uniform Civil Code In Himachal Pradesh If Voted Back To Power

BJP Promises Uniform Civil Code In Himachal Pradesh If Voted Back To Power

    [ad_1]

Less than a week before the Himachal Pradesh election, the ruling BJP made a contentious promise on Sunday that if the party is re-elected, it will implement the Uniform Civil Code, which will do away with religion-specific laws, NDTV reported.

Because a civil code is usually thought to be the domain of the central government rather than a state, the opposition has criticised the move, which was also promised in Gujarat, which holds elections next month, as merely a gimmick to shore up votes of the Hindu majority.

The BJP in Himachal Pradesh has promised to conduct “surveys” of Waqf properties, which are Islamic estates provided for charitable or religious purposes, to look for any illicit activity. The action, which was implemented in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh in September, drew criticism for its polarising intent.

The Goods and Services Tax, or GST, on packaging for the state’s important apple crop, will be reduced from 18% to 12%, according to the BJP’s manifesto. There will also be a 33% reservation for women in government jobs, as well as a promise to create 8 lakh “job opportunities” in five years.

Released by Himalayan state native and BJP president JP Nadda, it also included promises of scooters for college girls and five new medical institutions, as well as bicycles for female students in Classes 6 through 12.

The party also promised to increase the ex-gratia payment for martyrs, open five new medical institutions in the state, and, if re-elected, provide a Rs 900 crore corpus for start-ups in the state under the HIM start-up scheme, according to Indian Express.

In keeping with the promise made in Gujarat, Mr. Nadda stated that the state will create a committee to implement a uniform civil code.

Along with Gujarat, where voting will take place in two phases on December 1 and 5, the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly election will take place on November 12 with results anticipated on December 8.

Every election, the BJP and Congress have often alternated winning Himachal Pradesh; this is a tradition that the ruling party would like to break as Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party makes an attempt to enter the state.

Additionally, he criticised the Saturday-released Congress manifesto, saying it lacked both vision and weight.

India’s First Voter Shyam Saran Negi Dies In Himachal Pradesh At The Age Of 106

    [ad_1]

Shyam Saran Negi, the country’s first voter, passed away on November 5, 2022, at his residence in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. He was 106.

Using a postal ballot for the first time, Negi exercised his right to vote on November 2 for the assembly elections of the state that would take place on November 12. Negi had never missed an opportunity to vote in his life. Given the harsh winters and early snowfall in Kinnaur, it was decided to hold the vote there on October 25, 1951, when the first general elections were announced in the country. In contrast, elections were held in other regions of the country in January and February of 1952, according to Times of India.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed his condolences for the passing on Twitter and said it would always make him sad to think that Mr. Negi exercised his right to do so despite being ill.

After the election two days prior, Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussian Sadiq honored the centenarian at his home.

Mr. Negi was the brand ambassador for the Election Commission. His funeral will be attended by district election officials, according to Himachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg.
