Priest asks Sajid Khan to chant Jai Shri Ram – Viral Video

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Filmmaker Sajad Khan made his first public appearance after his exit from Bigg Boss 16 during the special screening of Sidharth Malhotra-Rashmika Mandanna-starrer ‘Mission Majnu’ in Mumbai. During the event, Sajid was asked about his experience in Bigg Boss and even some paps requested him to reveal the winner of the season. He was spotted having a brief converstaion with paps but what grabbed the eyeballs of netizens was viral video in which a priest asked Sajid to chan Jai Shri Ram.

Priest at first requested filmmaker to take a photo with him and clicked a selfie with him. Just after capturing photograph, the priest asked Sajid Khan to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Such andhbhakts are the reason why our country is backward),”

Another social media user wrote, “I am Hindu baki bro kisi ko jabardasti Jay Shri Ram nahin bula sakte or na Allah u Akbar sab apne apne dharm ka Aadar Karen”.

  • CBI court in Jammu ‘closes’ Yasin Malik’s right to cross-examine witnesses

CBI court in Jammu ‘closes’ Yasin Malik’s right to cross-examine witnesses

    [ad_1]

Jammu: A special CBI court on Monday closed banned JKLF chief Yasin Malik’s right to cross-examine a prime witness after he refused to do so through video conferencing.

Currently serving a life sentence in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for terror funding, Malik had demanded that he should be allowed to cross-examine witnesses physically in the Jammu court.

CBI counsel Monika Kohli said that when the judge asked Malik on Monday whether he would like to examine V.K. Sharma, a prime witness in the case, he refused and reiterated that he would like to physically question Sharma in court.

“Following his refusal to cross-examine Sharma through virtual mode, the court closed his right to cross-examine Sharma,” Kohli said.

It must be mentioned here that the prime witness Sharma had identified Malik before the examiner-in-chief of the court as well as the CBI as one of the militants involved in the January 25, 1990 killing of four IAF personnel on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Kohli informed the court that the Union Home Ministry had passed an order barring Malik from moving out of Tihar jail for one year from December 22, 2022 because of pending NIA cases against him.

Malik has been charge-sheeted in the case along with six others. The charges were framed against the accused in 2020, 20 years after CBI filed the charge-sheet before a designated TADA court in Jammu.

While four IAF personnel were killed on the spot, nearly 40 others were injured in that firing incident.

Hyderabad: Fire dept to crack down on safety violators

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The fire department is likely to initiate a big crackdown to check fire safety violations following a series of major ‘life-claiming’ incidents in the last year.

Around 11 persons were killed in a fire accident at a scrap godown at Bholakpur in Musheerabad in March last year. A few months later in September another eight were suffocated to death when a fire broke out at Ruby Hotel and Lodge in Secunderabad in September.

The latest incident took place at Minister’s Road in Secunderabad where efforts to trace the bodies of missing persons continue. Charred remains of one person have been found while efforts are on to find two more persons who are also feared dead.

A high-level meeting was called by the Telangana government to initiate actionable steps on Monday. It was later postponed to Wednesday due to administrative issues.

“At the meeting the issue will be discussed at length. Based on the orders the fire department will plan its course of action,” said a senior official of the Telangana Disaster Response and Fire Services Department.

However, the officials prior to the Minister’s Road fire incident had started inspecting buildings, particularly lodges, hotels and other related accommodations. Notices were issued wherever discrepancies were found.

Major violations were noticed during the inspections where hotels functioned on the ground floor of buildings and on upper floors the management established lodges.

Inspectors also found that second staircases or alternate escape routes were not constructed and the structures missed proper setbacks for fire personnel to move around and work.

  • Turkey’s Prez Erdogan announces elections to be held on May 14

Turkey’s Prez Erdogan announces elections to be held on May 14

    [ad_1]

Ankara: Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday announced that elections will be held on May 14, a month earlier than scheduled, according to a video shared by his office Sunday.

Erdogan, who plans to seek re-election, made the announcement during a Saturday youth conference in northwestern Bursa province. A video of the event was released on Sunday.

“I thank God that we are destined to share our path with you, our valued youth, who will vote for the first time in the elections that will be held on May 14,” said Erdogan.

“This is not an early election but bringing it forward,” Erdogan said in a video from his meeting with young people in Bursa, shared by the presidency.

Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held on June 18 but President Erdogan previously signalled that the vote could be brought forward, reported Khaleej Times.

An official of his AK Party has previously said that an election in June would coincide with the summer holiday season when people travel.

This year’s elections were supposed to take place in June. Still, ruling party members said that month would coincide with summer and religious holidays, prompting an earlier date, reported The Washington Post.

If no candidate secures more than 50 per cent of the vote, a second round of voting would be held on May 28, reported The Washington Post.

Erdogan has been in office since 2003 — first as prime minister and as president since 2014.

This will be the most challenging election for the Turkish strongman who has been in power for two decades shaping the predominantly Muslim but officially secular country’s politics.

Opinion polls show the parliamentary and presidential elections will be tight and will mark Erdogan’s biggest test in his two decades at the reins of the regional military power, NATO member and major emerging market economy, reported Khaleej Times.

The May 14 election date was also supported by the opposition alliance still arguing over the choice of a united candidate against the 68-year-old leader.

A six-party opposition alliance has yet to put forth a presidential candidate. A pro-Kurdish party that is the third-largest in parliament has so far been excluded from the alliance and said it might field its own candidate, reported The Washington Post.

Erdogan, 68, introduced a system of governance in 2018 that abolished the office of the prime minister and concentrated most powers in the hands of the president. The office of the president was primarily a ceremonial post before then. Under the new system, presidential and parliamentary elections are held on the same day.

The opposition has blamed Turkey’s economic downturn and an erosion of civil rights and freedoms on Erdogan, saying the revised government system amounts to “one-man rule.”

  • Jobless Indian IT professionals scramble for options to stay in US

Jobless Indian IT professionals scramble for options to stay in US

    [ad_1]

Washington: Thousands of Indian IT professionals in the US, who have lost their jobs due to the series of recent layoffs at companies like Google, Microsoft and Amazon, are now struggling to find new employment within the stipulated period under their work visas following the termination of their employment to stay in the country.

According to The Washington Post, nearly 200,000 IT workers have been laid off since November last year, including some record numbers in companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon.

As per some industry insiders, between 30 to 40 per cent of them are Indian IT professionals, a significant number of whom are on H-1B and L1 visas.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. Technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.

L-1A and L-1B visas are available for temporary intracompany transferees who work in managerial positions or have specialised knowledge.

A significantly large number of Indian IT professionals, who are on non-immigrant work visas like H-1B are L1, are now scrambling for options to stay in the US to find a new job in the stipulated few months time that they get under these foreign work visas after losing their jobs and change their visa status as well.

Amazon staffer Gita (name changed) arrived in the US only three months ago. This week she was told that March 20 is her last working day.

The situation is getting worse for those on H-1B visas as they have to find a new job within 60 days or else, they would be left with no other option but to head back to India.

Under current circumstances, when all IT companies are on a firing spree, getting a job within that short period, they feel is next to impossible.

Sita (name changed), another IT professional on an H-1B visa, got laid off from Microsoft on January 18.

She is a single mother. Her son is in High School Junior year, preparing for getting into college.

“This situation is really hard on us,” she said.

“It is unfortunate that thousands of tech employees are facing layoffs, particularly those on H-1B visas who are facing additional challenges as they must find a new job and transfer their visa within 60 days of termination or risk leaving the country,” Silicon Valley-based entrepreneur and community leader Ajay Jain Bhutoria said.

“This can have devastating consequences for families, including the sale of properties and disruptions to children’s education. It would be beneficial for tech companies to show special consideration for H-1B workers and extend their termination date by a few months, as the job market and recruitment process can be challenging,” he said.

Global Indian Technology Professionals Association (GITPRO) and Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) on Sunday launched a community-wide effort to try and help these IT professionals by connecting job seekers to job referrers and informers. FIIDS will work on efforts to influence policymakers and decision-makers of US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

“With massive layoffs in the tech industry, January 2023 has been brutal for tech professionals. Many talented folks lost their jobs. As the tech industry is dominated by Indian immigrants, they are the highest to get impacted,” Khande Rao Kand said.

The laid-off H-1B holders need to find an H-1B sponsoring job in 60 days or leave within 10 days after becoming out of status.

“This has a huge disruption on the family lives and children’s education etc on this tax-paying and contributing legal immigrant,” Khande Rao Kand from FIIDS said.
Bhutoria said it would be beneficial for the immigration process to be redesigned to better support H-1B workers and retain highly skilled talent in the US.

In deep distress, the fired Indian IT workers have formed various WhatsApp groups to find ways to have a solution to the terrible situation they are in.

In one of the WhatsApp groups, there are more than 800 jobless Indian IT workers who are circulating among themselves vacancies appearing in the country.

In another group, they have been discussing various visa options, with some immigration attorneys who have volunteered to offer their consultancy services during this time.

“These circumstances have such a devastating effect on us immigrants and are nerve-wracking. We are kinda lost,” said Rakesh (name changed) was laid off from Microsoft on Thursday. He is in the US on an H-1B visa.

Adding to the miseries of Indian IT professionals is the latest decision of Google that they are pausing their Green Card processing. This is primarily because, at a time when they have fired thousands of employees, they cannot be seen arguing before the USCIS that they need a foreign IT professional as a permanent resident. Other companies are expected to follow the same.
