SFI plans BBC’s Modi docu screening on Jamia campus at 6 pm, university says ‘will not allow’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Left-affiliated Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Wednesday announced it will screen the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Jamia Millia Islamia campus at 6 pm.

The university administration, however, said no permission has been sought for the screening of the documentary and “we will not allow” it.

The SFI’s Jamia unit has issued a poster informing the documentary will be screened at 6 pm at the MCRC lawn gate no 8.

When contacted, a Jamia official said, “They did not ask for a permission for the screening and we will not allow the screening. If students go out of their way to do something then strict action would be taken against them.”

The screening at the Jamia campus comes a day after a similar screening was organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru University during which students claimed that power and internet were suspended and stones were thrown at them.

Oracle introduces new logistics capabilities to boost global supply chains

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Cloud major Oracle is introducing new logistics capabilities within its Fusion Cloud Supply Chain and Manufacturing (SCM) offerings, that will help customers cut costs, improve accuracy and automate regulatory compliance.

Logistics leaders are overwhelmed with a recent buildup of port and shipping delays, fluctuating fuel costs, and evolving trade regulations while also being at the forefront of efforts to reduce carbon emissions of goods in transit.

“The last few years tested the flexibility of global logistics operations and many organisations have struggled to keep pace with the changing market,” said Derek Gittoes, vice president of supply chain management product strategy, Oracle.

“With Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management, organisations can rapidly adapt to changes in their supply chain and logistics network,” he added.

The new capabilities help customers validate Certificate of Origin, reduce tariffs, and enter new markets.

With a deep view into the bill of materials, Trade Agreement Qualification enables customers to comply with labor regulations and prove where goods were produced via auditable records, said Oracle.

“As an increasing number of Indian businesses continue to expand overseas, the ability to respond quickly to changing demand, supply, and market conditions can be a huge competitive advantage,” said Kaushik Mitra, senior director, Cloud ERP, Oracle India.

With the new logistics capabilities, supply chain professionals will gain real-time insights across the entire supply network to make critical business decisions and respond to any global change with confidence, Mitra added.

  • SC asks Ghaziabad court to defer PMLA case proceedings against Rana Ayyub

SC asks Ghaziabad court to defer PMLA case proceedings against Rana Ayyub

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it will hear on January 31, a plea by journalist Rana Ayyub against the summonses issued by a Ghaziabad court in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case.

The top court asked the Ghaziabad court to adjourn the hearing on January 27 and scheduled it after January 31.

Advocate Vrinda Grover, representing Ayyub, submitted before a bench comprising justices Krishna Murari and V. Ramasubramanian, that petitioner has been summoned by a Ghaziabad court and sought a stay on the coercive proceedings. The counsel argued that she is challenging the jurisdiction and cognizance of this case by PMLA court in Uttar Pradesh and added no part of the offence occurred there. Grover said the liberty of her client is at stake, and questioned whether ED be allowed to drag her to any court in the country.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the ED, opposed her submissions. Mehta said crowdfunding is the new device where you collect money and added, why can she not file for anticipatory bail like all litigants? Every litigant is equal before the eyes of law.

After hearing arguments, the bench said it will hear the case on January 31 and in the meantime Ghaziabad special court is requested to adjourn the hearing fixed on January 27 to a date after January 31. The top court clarified that this order is being passed because the hearing before it cannot be concluded today due to paucity of time and not on merits.

The ED, in October last year, had filed a charge sheet against Ayyub, accusing her of cheating the public and utilising charity funds worth Rs 2.69 crore for creating her personal assets, and also violating the foreign contribution law.

Ayyub moved the apex court seeking quashing of the proceedings initiated by the ED in Ghaziabad. The plea contended that the alleged offence of money laundering occurred in Mumbai, while citing lack of jurisdiction.

A special PMLA court in Ghaziabad, in November last year, had taken cognizance of the prosecution complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate and summoned Ayyub. The special court said that from the perusal of the entire record there is sufficient evidence as to a prima facie case for taking cognizance against Rana Ayyub with regard to commission of offence.

The special court has noted the alleged offence is connection with obtaining illegally money from the general public in the name of charity via ‘Ketto’ platform, which is an online crowdfunding platform, in three campaigns without any kind of approval, raising huge amounts in the bank account of her sister and father and later transferring the same to her own bank account which was not used for the intended purpose.

  • Ex-Odisha CM Giridhar Gamang, son likely to join BRS after resigning from BJP

Ex-Odisha CM Giridhar Gamang, son likely to join BRS after resigning from BJP

    [ad_1]

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang and his son Sishir have resigned from the BJP and are likely to join Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

The father-son duo, who had joined the BJP in 2015 after quitting Congress, announced their resignation from the primary membership of the party at a press conference here on Wednesday.

They have sent their resignation letters to BJP President J.P.Nadda.

“I realised that I am unable to discharge my political, social and moral duty to my people in Odisha during the last several years. Hence, I tender my resignation from the primary membership of the BJP with immediate effect. Please accept the same,” the former Chief Minister said in his resignation letter.

Giridhar Gamang, a nine-time MP, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, for clarifying on the floor of Parliament on his voting against the Vajpayee government in 1999.

Similarly, Sishir in his letter said he resigned after realising that he was unable to do much for the welfare of the tribal community and the youth during the last several years.

Hinting towards his joining the BRS, Giridhar Gamang said: “I have come from a national party (Congress) to BJP, another national party. I will join another national party, which is yet to put its feet in Odisha.”

He also announced that he will not contest in the elections anymore as he is old. “My son Sishir will contest,” the tribal leader said.

The father-son duo further said that their resigned also stemmed from being humiliated within the BJP.

“Insult is tolerable but not humiliation,” said the former Chief Minister.

Sishir said the BJP had promised him to give a party ticket for the Koraput Lok Sabha seat in 2019. However, he was given a ticket for the Gunupur Assembly seat from where he lost with a dismal show.

“No one has helped me in the 2019 election. After the election also, the entire party in the Koraput area was working under the behest of one leader and no importance was given to me,” he added.

Wednesday’s development comes after the father-son duo met the Telangana Chief Minister in Hyderabad on January 13.

Senior Gamang is likely to be appointed as the Odisha President of the BRS to lead the party in the 2024 elections, sources said.

Sishir is likely to contest the next poll on a BRS ticket, they added.

US’s Hindenburg Research alleges fraud in Adani group’s dealings

    [ad_1]

Hindenburg Research disclosed short positions in the Adani Group on Wednesday, accusing the conglomerate of the improperly wide use of businesses established in offshore tax havens and expressing worry about excessive debt levels.

The revelation, which comes just days before Adani Enterprises’ (ADEL.NS) $2.5 billion share sale, sent Adani group businesses’ shares tumbling.

It also said that seven Adani listed firms had an 85% downside on a fundamental basis because to what it dubbed ‘sky-high valuations’.

Hindenburg, a well-known U.S. short-seller, stated key listed firms in the group headed by billionaire Gautam Adani have ‘significant debt’ which had put the entire company on a ‘precarious financial footing’.

The firm published an investigative document titled ‘Adani Group: How The World’s 3rd Richest Man Is Pulling The Largest Con In Corporate History‘ and revealed findings of their two-year investigation presenting evidence that the Rs 17.8 trillion worth Adani group has engaged in a brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.

According to the report, Gautam Adani, the Adani Group’s founder and chairman, has a net worth of about $120 billion, which he has increased by more than $100 billion in the last three years, primarily as a result of stock price growth in the group’s seven most important publicly traded companies, which have increased by an average of 819 percent during that time.
