    ACB traps and arrests Saifudin Wani, clerk in the office of District Industrial Complex, Kupwara

    ACB traps and arrests Saifudin Wani, clerk in the office of DIstrict Industrial Complex, Kupwara while demanding & accepting the bribe of ₹5000 for helping processing case of complainant wife.

    1. A complaint was received by Anti Corruption Bureau alleging therein that the complainant prepared file of his wife for establishing a unit under District industries for the activity Tailoring & preparation of Ready made Garments under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme(PMEGP) . He applied with DIC Kupwara on 06-08-2021. He complained that he is being made to run for one formality or the other and the case of his wife under PMEGP is not being processed on merit for past 2 years. . The case of the complainant delayed for two years for want of bribe under PMEGP.
    1. He further alleged that despite the fact that he had completed all the formalities in the file the officers/officials posted at DIC Kupwara fail to process the genuine case of his wife, that even after lapse of considerable time no action was taken on the said file. He is now being asked to pay bribe in order to approve the case and sent it to Punjab National Bank for release of loan amount disbursement.
    2. The complainant further alleged that one of the employee of the DIstrict Industrial Centre, Kupwara Saifudin Wani is presently demanding the bribe of Rs. 5000/- from him. He lodged his complaint with ACB requesting therein for legal action against concerned.
    3. As the contents of complaint prima facie disclose the commission of offence punishable U/S 7 of the PC Act 1988 by accused public servant namely Safudin Wani, posted in the office of DIC Kupwara, accordingly a Case FIR No. 05/2023 was registered at Police Station Anti Corruption Bureau Baramulla U/S 7 of the P.C Act 1988 & the investigation were initiated.
    4. During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted which laid a trap and caught the accused official of DIC Kupwara red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹5000. He was arrested on the spot after completing all legal formalities.
    5. The role of other officials/ officers of the DIC Kupwara is also being looked into & investigations are also looking into the circumstances under which the case of the complainant’s wife was delayed for two years and was approved immediately after receipt of the bribe amount.
    6. Further investigation in the case are going on.
  • Victim of Domestic Violence, Woman Battling For Life In Kupwara

    KUPWARA, May 9: A woman suffered a severe hand injury and is undergoing treatment at a hospital after she was allegedly beaten up by her husband and in-laws in north Kashmir’s Kupwara village on Tuesday.

    Sources told that a woman (name withheld) was beaten ruthlessly by her husband and in-laws over some family issues at Teliwanipora Lalpora Kupwara.
    “She suffered a critical hand injury and is now undergoing surgery at a local hospital in the district,” sources close to the family told .

    Sources further added that this is not the first time she has been a victim of domestic violence by her in-laws; she has been harassed many times by her husband and in-laws ever since their marriage.

    “Today they tried to kill her, for want of dowry. They have always harassed her trying to take away jwellery from her on one or the other reasons,” sources added.

    Talking to local english daily Kashmir Despatch, Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara Youghal Manhas said cognizance has already been taken into this case and the accused has been arrested.

    SHO Lalpora Nisar Ahmad said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and the accused has been arrested. He said the police have initiated a further investigation into this case. The officer further stated that he had also visited the victim and listened to her version, and assured that, as per law, strict action would be taken against the accused family. (KD)

    Kupwara, May 8: District Commissioner Kupwara suspended fourteen employees over unauthorized absence from their legitimate duties here on Monday.

    The employees, as per an order, were found absent from their legitimate duties during the surprise inspection of various District Offices today on 8-5-2023.

    Among the suspended employees included, Bilal Ahmad Sofi, MIS Operator; Razia Shaban, Orderly; Ishfaq Ramzan, Accounts Assistant; Nissar Ahmad, JE; Rafiq Ahmad Pir, Orderly; Gh Nabi Malik, Orderly; Mohd Ramzan Dar, Orderly; Ab. Majid War, Helper; Bashir Ahmad Dar, Helper; Shabir Ahmad Wani, Jr., Assistant; Badshah Khan, Tech. Assistant MGNREGA working with the offices of ACD/ACP/Executive Engineer, REW Kupwara and three others viz. Arshid Hussain, Jr. Assistant; Bashir Ahmad Payer, Orderly; Ashiq Hussain, Driver working with Tehsil Office Kupwara.

    “The unauthorized absence of these employees deserves punitive action as warranted under the provisions of Civil Services (Classification Control & Appeal Rules) 1956, and therefore in view of the above (illegitimate absence from duties), the officials as mentioned are hereby placed under suspension and attached with this office with immediate effect”, reads the order.

    “Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Kupwara shall conduct Inquiry into the matter and furnish his report to this office within 15 days”, reads the order further.

    14 officials found unauthorizedly absent, suspended

    Kupwara, May 8 (GNS): The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray today conducted surprise inspection of various Government offices to check the attendance of the officials including ACD Office, ACP Office, Executive Engineer REW, Tehsildar Office Kupwara, JKEDI, DE&CC and Prosecution Office.

    During the surprise visit, the DC found 14 officials unauthorizedly absent from their duties and put them under suspension. These officials include 11 of Rural Development Department and 3 of Tehsildar Office Kupwara.

    During the visit, the DC also enquired about the work done by the departments. He also stressed upon the officers and employees to remain punctual in their duties.

    The DC also inspected the Record Room of Tehsil Office Kupwara during which he directed the concerned for disposing-off the old record as per the procedure so that proper space could be made available for upkeep of latest records.(GNS)

    SRINAGAR: A man died while two others were injured after a car they were traveling in met with an accident in Nechiyan Top in Karnah sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that the trio was traveling in an Alto vehicle this afternoon when the accident took place.

    He said in the incident a man died on the spot while two others were injured and they have been admitted to a hospital.

    He identified the deceased as Mohammad Rafeeq Qureshi (52) of Tadd Karnah.

    The two injured have been identified as Shakoor Ahmad a resident of Dragger and Mohammad Ramzan a resident of Handwara.

    The DC further directed the respective offices to furnish the report immediately for further process.

    Kupwara, May 7 (GNS): A man was hospitalised with injuries after struck by a lightning in Dardsun Kralpora area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district this evening, officials said.

    They told GNS that one Abdul Rashid Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, resident of Dardsun Reshigund in Kralpora suffered injuries at Aloosa.

    The individual, they said, was shifted to SDH Kralpora from where he was referred to DH Handwara. “He as per doctors is responding well to treatment as of now”, the officials said further. (GNS)

    Kupwara, May 07: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested ex-militant turned Militant Associate along with a grenade in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    In a handout to GNS, the police said that in a joint action, Kupwara Police along with Army has arrested an ex-militant turned OGW from Kralpora area of the district along with a grenade.

    The police spokesman further stated that acting on specific intelligence generated by Kupwara police, a joint Naka was established at Main Market Karlpora by Kupwara Police and Army Camp Panzgam. During the Naka checking, the OGW moving in suspicious circumstances trying to evade the presence of naka personnel was apprehended, from whose possession one grenade was recovered. The OGW was later identified as Rafiq Ahmad Khan son of Habib Ullah Khan, a resident of Waterkhani Drugmulla Kupwara.

    Rafiq is a surrendered Pakistan trained militant who is now working as an OGW for militant outfit HM. During preliminary investigations, he has revealed that the grenade was received by him from Chogul area of Handwara and was to be delivered to someone in Kralpora area on the instructions of his Pakistan based HM handler to be thrown at security forces. Case under relevant provisions of UA(P) Act has been registered in Police Station Kralpora and investigations taken up, reads the statement.(GNS)

    Kupwara, May 04: Following the killing of two militants in Machil sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Army on Thursday said that they are ready to foil any attempt made from across the border to push infiltrators into the Valley to disturb peace.

    Addressing a press conference at Z Gali, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Brigadier Vinod Singh Negi said that operation in Machil sector on May 3 was conducted successfully leading to elimination of two infiltrators.

    He said that intelligence agencies were regularly receiving inputs about possible infiltration. “It was learnt that infiltrators will be pushed from across the border. After inputs by the police high alert was sounded on May 01,” he said.

    He said that following inputs additional ambushes were deployed at possible target places and special operation group of J&K police was also involved in this operation.

    The Brigadier also said that the operation was conducted under challenging conditions as troops braved cold weather conditions and low visibility.

    “Braving continuous snow, rain, overflow of water channels and challenging atmosphere, the operation was conducted successfully. Brave troops remained under open sky for more than 48 hours waiting for the infiltrators,” he said.

    The Brigadier said that on May 03 an ambush spotted and killed two infiltrators. “They were fired at and two of them were killed. Entire area was searched and war like store along with eatables with Pakistan marking were recovered.”

    He added that regularly efforts are being made from the other side of the border to disturb peace here. “All such efforts have been foiled. We are fully alert and every infiltration will be foiled,” he said while praising the troops deployed at forward areas.

    Meanwhile, SSP Kupwara while addressing the press conference said that they will continue to foil any attempts of enemy. “Alert troops are deployed at LoC. We continue to work jointly with army and share every intelligence input. No one can cross the LoC and disturb peace here,” he said
