Additionally, Raju was also paying for his wife, Soni Rasapuram’s education who is studying first year of B.Ed.

Soon after the accident, the family tried to contact the management at Swiggy. However, they ended up receiving a computer-generated response with none from the company reaching out to the family so far.

TGPWU’s founder and president, Shaik Salauddin who visited the bereaved family on Monday said, “Raju’s death stands completely ignored by the company. The family was left distressed.”

The union has promised the family to step in and negotiate with Swiggy while they demand Rs 25 lakh as compensation in case of death under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923 (which is to compensate workers who have encountered injuries due to an accident during their employment).

TGPWU has further demanded that police should file an FIR against the person who had hit Raju in the accident and also facilitate compensation from the accused to Raju’s family.

    Accident on May 5

The incident reportedly occurred at night when a speeding car from Kanaji Guda hit a person, and then continued to run until a high-tension pole made it stop.

The incident caused injuries to three people, including Raju who was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Police identified the driver as a software employee who accelerated her car by mistake, while she was supposed to hit the brake to avoid hitting a man who came in front of the car, ending up in a major accident.

Atiq Ahmed’s killers were jobless, addicted to drugs, say kin

    [ad_1]

Banda: After gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj in full media glare on Saturday night, the father of one of the assailants on Sunday said his son was jobless and a drug addict.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Yagya Tiwari (father of Lovelesh, one of the arrested shooters) said, “He is my son. We saw the incident on TV. We are not aware of the actions of Lovelesh nor do we have anything to do with this. He never lived here and neither was he involved in our family affairs. He did not tell us anything. He came here five to six days ago. We have not been on talking terms with him for years. There is already a case registered against him. He was jailed in that case.”

“He doesn’t work. He was a drug addict. We have four children. We have nothing to say about this,” Yagya Tiwari added.

Meanwhile, speaking to ANI, Pintu Singh (brother of shooter Sunny Singh) said, “He used to wander around and did no work. We live separately and dont know how he became a criminal. We have no idea about the incident.”

Days after Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, the mafia-turned-politician and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were killed on Saturday while being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj.

Atiq was accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005 and also in the subsequent killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the BSP’s leader’s murder, in February this year.

All three assailants were arrested, informed police after Atiq and his brother were shot dead.

“Three people have been arrested and they are being questioned. A journalist was also injured as he fell down and a constable sustained a bullet injury,” Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma said earlier.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath also ordered the setting up of a three-member judicial commission to probe the incident.

“UP CM Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the Prayagraj incident. He chaired a high-level meeting and ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. The CM also ordered the formation of a three-member Judicial Commission (Judicial Inquiry Commission) in the matter,” an officer said.

A forensic team also reached the scene of the incident and collected samples.

Moments before their killing, the slain gangster siblings, who were accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, were speaking to the media while being taken for a medical and their murder was captured on camera.

“Nahi le gaye to nahi gaye (they did not take us, so we did not go)” were Atiq Ahmed’s last words, when asked what did he have to say on not being taken to his son Asad’s burial.

‘Don’t interfere’: SC dismisses UP govt’s plea against job to kin of Hathras victim

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed Uttar Pradesh government’s plea against high court direction to consider giving a job to a family member of the victim in Hathras case and also the relocation of the family, saying “the state should not come up in such matters”.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and J.B. Pardiwala told Garima Prasad, additional advocate general (AAG) of Uttar Pradesh, “State should not come up in such matters… Prasad submitted that the state government is ready to relocate the family but they wanted a job either in Noida or Delhi.”

She further added that whether the elder married brother of the victim could be regarded as a ‘dependent’, was a question of law to be considered.

Declining to entertain the state government’s plea, the Chief Justice said, “these are facilities provided to the family. We should not interfere. State should not come up in these matters…”

After the order was pronounced, the AAG urged the apex court to keep the question of law open, the bench said that the order has specified that it is passed in the special facts and circumstances of the case.

In July last year, the high court passed directions in a matter connected with Hathras case, where a 19-year-old Dalit woman was alleged to have been raped and murdered in September 2020 in Hathras.

The high court said the state authorities must abide by the promise, which was made to the family in September 2020, to give employment to one member and also directed the authorities to consider relocation of the family outside Hathras but within Uttar Pradesh.

The high court’s order came on a PIL registered suo motu as Right to Decent and Dignified Last Rites/Cremation in 2020 after victim’s last rites were performed in haste after midnight allegedly in the absence of the consent of the family.

Medak cops violated laws: Fact-finding team who visited Khadeer’s kin

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A fact-finding team of social activists visited the family, friends and neighbours of Mohammed Khadeer Khan, who died on February 21 following alleged police brutality. It concluded that the Medak police failed to follow the process of law and violated several provisions of CrPC, guidelines and judgments delivered by the Supreme Court and various High Courts in the cases of arrest and detention.

The team came out with 13 pointers report that suggests that Khadeer was tortured and attempts were made to erase the evidence.

Not just Khadeer, but his friend Rizwan and brother-in-law Moin were taken along with the victim and allegedly beaten for hours.

No specific complaint or FIR was registered against Khadeer. “It is merely on the basis of misidentification that he was arrested and tortured,” said the report.

Instead of producing before the regular judicial magistrate, Khadeer was produced before the executive magistrate, raising suspicions that he was arrested on mistaken identification due to footage from the CCTV camera.

“The Medak police personnel came to Hyderabad in a private vehicle (Swift car) with plain clothes and without name tags to arrest Khadeer, thus violating guidelines of the apex court laid down in DK Basu case in arresting and keeping accused in police custody. Moreover, police collected Khadeer’s call data records without any warrants,” the report said.

“It seems that police targeted Khadeer to hide their failure in arresting the real culprit involved in the theft case,” the report stated.

The report alleged that police hesitancy to provide timely medical treatment to Khadeer was “to save their own skin”.

Lastly, the fact-finding team has laid down recommendations to the Director General of Police (DGP). They are as follows:

    • Immediate safety and security to all witnesses including Rizwan and Moin who were present at the time of the torture.
    • Preservation of medical records and statements of doctors who treated Khadeer.
    • File FIRs against the erring police officers under 302 (Whoever commits murder shall be punished with death or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as issue an immediate order to preserve the CCTV footage from January 29 to February 16.
    • Speedy trial by appointing a special magistrate and a separate bench.
    • Transfer of Medak’s superintendent of police for failing to take timely action against the erring police officials.
    • Training for police officials on how to conduct themselves with regards to an investigation as well as the approach with empathy towards the general public.
    • Compensation of Rs50 lakh and a government job to Khadeer’s widow by the state government.

“Khadeer was a daily wage worker. His family consists of four persons who were completely dependent on him. Now this family is rendered orphans without male support,” the report concluded.

The fact-finding team of social activists included Khalida Parveen, Murali Karnam, S.Q.Masood, Krishna Kumari, Manga, Deepthi, Kaneez Fathima, Kareema, Farisa Quadri, Naseem Sultana, Gayatri and Fariya.
