Congress files complaint against Karnataka BJP candidate for ‘threat to kill Kharge’

    [ad_1]

Panaji: The Congress in Goa on Monday filed a complaint against BJP candidate Manikanta Rathod from Karnataka for the alleged plot to assassinate Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and his family.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar along with other office bearers filed the complaint at the Panaji police station.

Patkar speaking to reporters, alleged that a conspiracy to kill Kharge and his family was hatched by the BJP candidate from Chittapur seat Manikanta Rathod, who was heard purportedly saying so in Kannada in an audio clip.

“The BJP leader has clearly said in the audio tape that he will kill Mallikarjun Kharge and his family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and Election Commission are mum on this issue. We have filed a complaint and have demanded to register a FIR and probe the case,” Patkar said.

Stating that the government has failed to take action against Rathod, Patkar questioned whether “we are in a democracy”.

“This is an open threat to our leader. There are several cases against Rathod. Such a person has been given a ticket by the BJP and despite his threat to our leader, no action has been taken against him,” Patkar said.

“The murder plot is very clear from the audio recording of BJP candidate from Chittapur, Shri Manikanta Rathod, who also happens to be the ‘Blue Eyed Boy’ of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri Basavaraj Bommai,” the complaint stated.

“There is a designed hatred, towards the tall leader of the country Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, on part of the BJP leadership, and that the BJP is unable to digest the fact, that having been born in a Dalit family to a factory labourer, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has risen from the post of block Congress president to be the president of the Indian National Congress,” it said.

“The BJP leaders are openly plotting the assassination of Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family, and that, the frustration and desperation of the BJP and its leadership has now reached dangerous proportions,” the complaint stated.

‘I have not threatened anyone…’: BJP leader on hatching plot to kill Kharge

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Manikanta Rathod on Saturday termed the allegations made by the Congress as “false” after the grand old party alleged that a plot is being hatched to murder their party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and his entire family.

While talking to reporters, Rathod said, “I was very surprised. Congress is scared of losing the election. So that’s why they’re making such false allegations. I have registered a complaint against Congress.”

“The videos that are being circulated by Congress on social media are false and I have not threatened anyone,” he added.

    MS Education Academy

Congress on Saturday alleged that a “sinister and “ugly plot” is being “hatched” by the BJP to “kill” its party President Mallikarjun Kharge and his family.

At a press conference in Bengaluru today the Congress played an audio clip, claiming that the BJP candidate from Chittapur Manikanth Rathod used derogatory language for Kharge and could be heard talking about eliminating him and his family.

“BJP leaders are now hatching a plot to murder Mallikarjun Kharge and his family members. This is now clear from the recording of BJP’s candidate from Chittapur who also happens to be the blue-eyed boy of PM Modi and chief minister Bommai,” Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said.

“I know the prime minister will remain mute, and so will Karnataka police and the Election Commission of India. But people of Karnataka will not remain mute and will give a befitting reply” he said.

Pawan Khera was also present at the Congress briefing.

As per a Congress statement, “the brazen hatred of the BJP towards Kannadigas is manifesting itself into a ‘Murder Plot’ to kill Karnataka’s Son of the Soil, Kharge”.

It added: “The Prime Minister and the BJP leadership remain “mute” as “assassination plot” brews”.

Manikanth Rathod Rathod was arrested on November 13, 2022, for allegedly threatening Priyank Kharge, who is the Congress candidate in Chittapur, with murder and was later, released on bail.

In a media conference then, he had openly expressed his readiness to shoot down Priyank Kharge.

“Intimidated by the all-round blessing of Kannadigas being showered on the Congress Party and facing a complete rout in the ensuing assembly elections, BJP and its leadership are now resorting to hatching a “murder plot” to kill AICC President, Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family. This is clear from the audio recording of BJP Candidate from Chittapur, Manikanta Rathod, who also happens to be the ‘blue-eyed boy’ of PM Narendra Modi and PM Basavaraj Bommai,” read the Congress statement.

“On May 2, BJP MLA and General Secretary, Madan Dilawar wished “death” for Mallikarjun Kharge and said “Congress President is 80 years old; God can take him away any time”. Now BJP leaders are openly plotting the assassination of Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family,” the Congress Party alleged in the statement.

As per the Congress statement, the frustration and desperation of the BJP and its leadership have now reached dangerous proportions.

“Instead of presenting a vision of development for Karnataka, the pathetic state of the BJP is that they coin one ugly polarising issue a day to somehow save their skins from answering for the 40 per cent Corruption. Even these abusive and divisive tactics of the BJP are sinking without a trace. Now, they are using assassination plots as their last weapon in their armoury,” alleged the Congress.

As per the Congress statement, “Of course, PM Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Police and the Election Commission will play “mute” on this sinister conspiracy to kill AICC President and his family”.

“The only befitting reply by 6.5 crore Kannadigas to this nefarious and sinister murder plot is to decimate this murderous thought process of the BJP in the ensuing state elections,” read the Congress statement.

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leaders on Friday paid tributes to the soldiers killed in a blast in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the troops made the supreme sacrifice for the country.

Five Army personnel were killed in an explosion triggered by terrorists on Friday in a thickly forested area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district where an operation is underway to flush out terrorists.

A major was also injured in the blast.

Five soldiers made the supreme sacrifice for the country while fighting terrorists in Rajouri, Kharge said.

“We pay our heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We will never allow the nefarious designs of terrorism to succeed,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the blast.

“The news of martyrdom of our five soldiers in an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir is very sad. At this difficult time, I convey my deepest condolences to their bereaved families. My humble tributes to all the martyrs,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Mobile internet facilities in Rajouri have been suspended.

Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also paid tributes to the “brave sons of the country”.

“The country will always remember this sacrifice of its martyrs. My deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured soldiers,” he said.

According to a statement issued by the Army’s Northern Command, its personnel have been conducting “relentless intelligence-based operations to flush out a group of terrorists involved in an ambush on an Army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in Jammu region last month”.

Amit Shah trying to incite violence, charges Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

Raichur: Congress President Mallikarjun KhargeMallikarjun Kharge on Thursday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his statement that if Congress is voted to power in Karnataka, the state would be affected by riots.

“Amit Shah is delivering provocative speeches and trying to incite violence,” he said at a rally in Raichur.

“People of Karnataka are peace-loving and have faith in principles of Buddha and Basava. Amit Shah says there will be riots if Congress comes to power. Why? The Congress has ruled 60 to 70 years. Where have the riots happened? Amit Shah is now trying to provoke people.

    MS Education Academy

“There is a history of violence, rioting in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. But, people of Karnataka are peace loving,” he said.

“The CCTVs have to be fixed at hyper-sensitive booths. People will know who is trying to be violent,” Kharge said, adding that he will write a letter in this regard to the Election Commission..

Noting that the Election Commission has issued a notice to his son Priyank Kharge, he asserted that his son was “not a person to get scared. He is a courageous man. He is living for principles and ideology”. Priyank Kharge was issued notice for calling PM Narendra Modi as “nalayak beta”.

“If you get scared a little, BJP will scare you completely. BJP people will create violence intentionally. Look at how the Prime Minister is wandering all areas to defeat legislators. See and imagine how he had lost hope. In their regime, the poor are becoming poorer. Rich are getting richer. If this gap has to be removed, Congress will have to come to power,” Kharge maintained.

  • Cong’s Priyank Kharge, BJP’s Yatnal get EC notices over ‘nalayak’, ‘vishkanya’ remarks

Cong’s Priyank Kharge, BJP’s Yatnal get EC notices over ‘nalayak’, ‘vishkanya’ remarks

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday issued notices to Congress MLA Priyank Kharge for his “nalayak beta” remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to BJP legislator Basangouda Patil Yatnal for his “vishkanya” jibe at former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

The separate EC notices said the two have prima facie violated provisions of the model code in Karnataka.

The notices came a day after a strong advisory was issued by the poll panel asking parties and their leaders to exercise restraint in their utterances during electioneering in Karnataka.

    MS Education Academy

Both Kharge and Yatnal have been asked to explain by 5 PM Thursday as to why action should not be taken against them.

While Kharge is Congress’ candidate from Chittapur, Yatnal is BJP’s star campaigner and a candidate from Bijapur City.

In its notice to Kharge, the EC referred to a clause in the poll code which states that “Political parties and candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders and workers of the other parties…”

It said “the Commission is prima facie of the opinion that you have violated the aforesaid provision of MCC by making the said statement.”

In its notice to Yatnal, District Election Officer Koppal cited same clauses of the model code and said “a personal attack remark against a rival party leader is found to be made by you …which is in violation of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct…”

The BJP had moved the Commission on Tuesday against Kharge for his remark while the EC had taken cognisance of Yaatnal’s statement through media reports.

Taking serious note of the “plummeting level of campaign discourse” during electioneering in Karnataka, the Election Commission on Tuesday asked political parties and their star campaigners to exercise caution and restraint in their utterances and not to vitiate the election atmosphere.

The poll panel also referred to the instances of “inappropriate vocabulary and language” used during the ongoing campaign by people, “in particular, by those invested with the statutory status of star campaigner”.

“Such instances have occasioned various complaints, cross complaints and have also attracted negative media attention,” the EC said in a statement.

Campaigning for the May 10 polls is hotting up with the Congress and the BJP being engaged in a war of words.

If you won’t vote for Cong, Yogi’s bulldozer will come to haunt Karnataka: Kharge

    [ad_1]

Kalaburagi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday that if the people of Karnataka do not vote for the party, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanaths bulldozer will come to haunt the southern state as well.

Addressing a huge public rally in Aland in Kalaburagi district, Kharge stated that these days the UP CM is coming to Karnataka frequently. Giving the appearance of a saint, wearing saintly clothes, instead of showing the good path of humanity he instigates clashes between the people. CM Yogi says jo hamare baat nahi manenge, use bulldozer lagake nikal denge. Is desh mein nahin rah sakte. (whoever doesn’t listen to us, we will get rid of them through the bulldozer, they can’t live in this country), said Kharge.

“I think those who are foreigners should be asked to leave the country, not us who are the natives of this country. So I want to tell you, if you won’t give the vote to the Congress party then Yogi’s bulldozer will come here also,” Kharge stated.

    MS Education Academy

Chief Minister Bommai should beware of Modi ji and Amit Shah. The BJP claims they will give a “Mazboot Sarkar” in Karnataka, but they changed multiple CMs. It is an important ‘do or die’ election for Karnataka. The 40 per cent commission state government is damned. It has cheated our people, Kharge said.

This election is not only significant for Karnataka, but for the nation. Karnataka must become corruption free. It must be freed from the 40 per cent BJP misrule, Kharge stated.

Modi ji often says in his speeches that ‘na mein khaunga, na khane dunga!’ (I won’t take bribes, I will not let others take bribes). But Bommai sits next to him. The PM should ask him for a 40 per cent commission, Kharge taunted.

“Modi ji complains about me, baap aur bete ne kuch kaha! (father and son duo have said something against me) He is our Prime Minister, how can we insult him? Irrespective of the party he belongs to, we accept our Prime Minister! We have not insulted him, instead Modi ji has insulted Karnataka, he said.

We brought a Central University in this area. We spent Rs 400 to Rs 500 crore for the building. But teachers are not in full strength. There are vacancies and the number of departments have gone down, he alleged.

We have constructed a Mega ESI hospital here. Later I requested the BJP government to start an AIIMS here. We had spent a thousand crores on the infrastructure. In the main hall in the hospital, 5,000 people can sit, it is such a grand building. But the BJP government does not care. The hospital is not being maintained. Now it has slowly started to turn into a cowshed, Kharge charged.

We had taken approval for the highway from Solapur to Bengaluru, from Bidar to Hiriur, and from Bidar to Mysuru. But the present government has halted all this work. Instead, they spent crores of money to inaugurate the old, already existing Bengaluru-Mysuru express corridor, Kharge alleged.

“Coming back to the issue of our area (Kalaburagi), Article 371(J) is my contribution to the people of this region and therefore, today they can enjoy the privileges in the education and employment sector,” he said.

  • Kharge, Siddaramaiah’s statements offer BJP way out of Lingayat humiliation charge

Kharge, Siddaramaiah’s statements offer BJP way out of Lingayat humiliation charge

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: As Karnataka inches closer to assembly elections, the BJP and the Congress campaigns are getting nastier as the BJP finds itself pushed into a corner over the way it treated prominent Lingayat leaders, and the Congress on the back-foot because of its leaders’ recent remarks.

The statements by leaders of the grand old party regarding ‘corrupt’ Lingayat chief ministers and comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a ‘poisonous snake’ (later withdrawn) have given the BJP much-needed ammunition to counter the narrative the Congress spun around former CM Jagadish Shettar and ex-Deputy CM Laxman Savadi, both prominent Lingayat leaders, who joined the Congress after quitting the BJP on being denied tickets.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come down heavily on the Congress over remarks made by Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.

    MS Education Academy

The BJP was waiting for a long time to attack Siddaramaiah as he is a known critic of the RSS and Hindutva.

Siddaramaiah is the only leader from the state to attack PM Modi, Amit Shah and, is still not targeted by any central agencies.

Kharge surprised everyone with his remarks of comparing PM Modi to a poisonous snake. Though he withdrew his statement and maintained that it was issued with reference to Hindutva ideology and the RSS agenda, the BJP got an opportunity to make din, and the humiliation of Lingayat leadership charge was put to back-burner.

While campaigning in Varuna constituency in Mysuru district, Siddaramaiah stated that Lingayat CMs indulged in corruption and destroyed the state.

Though Siddaramaiah clarified that his statement was meant only for current Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, a controversy was stirred.

Kharge, while addressing a public rally at Naregal town of Gajendragarh in Gadag district of Karnataka, stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is like a poisonous snake. Kharge further warned the crowd that if you taste any offers by snake (Modi), you will die.

He also said that the BJP should tell what is its contribution to the country.

“Not even the pet dog of their home had given its life to the country,” Kharge said.

Union Minister Amit Shah who has launched an aggressive campaign in Karnataka declared that attacks on PM Modi will only create ‘waves’ for him and help the BJP.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani stated that the Congress is such a party, when an Adivasi woman was made candidate for the post of President, it humiliated her. It had made those who insult Hindu religion as star campaigners.

“Congress seeks support of SDPI, it talks of releasing PFI goons. Today, Congress leaders are again criticising PM Modi. Kharge saheb is older than me. This insecurity does not bring dignity to you,” she said.

V.P. Niranjan Aradhya, an activist and senior academician, told IANS that right from the beginning, “what we are claiming is that no issue concerning people is being discussed at all”.

“Only matters of caste, religion, pitting one community against another is happening.

“The twist in the tale is, so far the general feeling was BJP hated Muslims. Now, they are breaking communities. The attempt to create characters of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda were created to pit Vokkaligas against Muslims, removal of quota of reservations for Muslims and pit them against Vokkaligas and Lingayats, this is very dirty politics,” Niranjan Aradhya said.

He further said: “Absolutely, there is no morality and value-based politics. Particularly talking about the Constitution and the Constitutional values, fundamental rights, issues are totally absent. With Jagadish Shettar and Laxman Savadi’s exit, it is more or less proved that the BJP is a Brahminical party, completely controlled by the RSS.

“I think the people of Karnataka should think seriously. All these days, it has been about Hindus and Muslims. Not only this, they will not allow Hindus to live peacefully as well. People should think and go by the Constitution. Pluralism, multiculturalism, multilingualism and more than anything diversity are challenged and being erased. This is the right time to take a call,” Niranjan Aradhya added.

The Assembly election in Karnataka is scheduled to be held on May 10 and the result would be announced on May 13.

Gadag: Congress President M Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a poisonous snake, drawing the BJP’s ire.

Addressing a public meeting at Ron in Gadag district, as part of the party’s campaign for the May 10 Assembly elections in Karnataka, he said: “don’t make a mistake. Modi is like a poisonous snake. If you say, ‘no, it’s not poisonous. let’s lick it and find out.’ Don’t go to lick it. If you lick, you die.”

Kharge further added, “(if you think that) No, no, this is not a poison because Modi has given it, ‘good man’ Prime Minister has given it, let’s try it and lick it’. If you lick that poison then you will sleep forever”.

BJP IT department chief Amit Malviya, who also shared the video where Kharge made those comments, on Twitter, said: “Now Congress President Kharge calls Prime Minister Modi poisonous snake’ What started with Sonia Gandhi’s maut ka saudagar’, and we know how it ended, the Congress continues to plummet to new depths. The desperation shows Congress is losing ground in Karnataka and knows it”.

Kharge later told reporters he only said the BJP was like a snake, and that party’s ideology is like a poison. “If you support that ideology and lick (try) it, death is certain.”

“I did not speak against him (Modi) because I have already said that I never make personal comments,” he said.
