Delhi: Renowned flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Sarod stalwart Ustad Amjad Ali Khan are among the eight international artists performing at the upcoming ‘Kanha Music Festival’, starting Wednesday.

The week-long festival of classical music, scheduled to be held at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Hyderabad, would be attended by over one lakh participants from across the world — with millions expected to join online.

It will also mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Adi Guru of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Lalaji Maharaj.

“Our idea of bringing music maestros to the celebrations is to invoke the divine within through music. I am very happy that the government of Telangana and other partner organizations have come forward with their support in this regard and help make the event a grand success. We must create inner peace in order to bring about world peace,” spiritual leader Kamlesh Patel, president of Shri Ram Chandra Mission said in a statement.

Other artists performing in the event, include Santoor exponent Rahul Sharma, classical musician Ustad Rashid Khan, Carnatic vocalist Sudha Raghunathan, flautist Shashank Subramanyam, vocalists Kaushiki Chakraborty and Sanjeev Abhyankar.

Besides, the festival will also showcase an exhibit of the ‘Inner Peace Museum’, bringing together professional artists from India and Germany, art students from The Dresden Academy of Fine Arts in collaboration with the City of Dresden and the Heartfulness Institute.

The various bodies of work — paintings, sculptures, installations and artworks — in the exhibit depict glimpses of Lalaji’s life and teachings, aiming to inspire inner peace.

  • After ‘Who is Shahrukh Khan?’ remark, Assam CM gets call from SRK

After ‘Who is Shahrukh Khan?’ remark, Assam CM gets call from SRK

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan talked to him over the phone early on Sunday and expressed concern over a protest against his new film ‘Pathaan’ in the city.

Sarma assured the actor that his government will enquire about the demonstration against the movie and ensure that “no such untoward incidents” would occur again.

The development comes a day after the CM had said “who is Shahrukh Khan? I don’t know anything about him or his film Pathaan”, while responding to queries by reporters about the violent protest by Bajrang Dal activists, who stormed a theatre at Narengi in the city on Friday, where the film is slated to be screened.

The far right-wing group’s volunteers tore down the film’s posters and burnt them.

“Bollywood actor Shri @iamsrk called me and we talked today morning at 2 am. He expressed concern about an incident in Guwahati during screening of his film. I assured him that it’s duty of state govt to maintain law & order. We’ll enquire and ensure no such untoward incidents,” Sarma said on Twitter.

Notably, the CM had on Saturday said action would be taken if law and order is violated, though Khan had not called him over the matter.

Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan and the movie Pathaan’ are facing a backlash from far-right Hindutva’ groups for showing Deepika Padukone in a saffron bikini in a song ‘Besharam Rang’.

Many leaders, including those in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, have demanded a ban on the film.

Pathaan’, which has been directed by Siddharth Anand, will be released on January 25.

  • Azam Khan sworn in as caretaker CM of Pak’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Azam Khan sworn in as caretaker CM of Pak’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

    [ad_1]

Peshawar: Former bureaucrat Muhammad Azam Khan was sworn in as the caretaker chief minister of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province at a ceremony held here on Saturday.

Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali administered oath to Khan, whose name for the role was finalised after talks between outgoing chief minister Mahmood Khan and leader of the Opposition Akram Khan Durrani.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Governor House in Peshawar and was attended by civil and military officials. Earlier on Saturday, Ali formally appointed Khan as the caretaker chief minister of the province in the interim set-up.

Khan has previously served as the finance minister of the province. He was also the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from September 1990 to July 1993.

Khan’s name was announced at a joint press conference by outgoing chief minister Khan and Durrani.

“We decided on Azam Khan’s name after consultation with our leader,” Khan said.

“We agreed on Azam Khan as our consensus candidate. We have chosen a person who is acceptable to all,” Durrani was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune newspaper.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former defence minister Pervez Khattak played an important role in reaching the consensus.

Talking to reporters after the appointment, Khan vowed to extend “complete cooperation” to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding “free and fair elections” in the province.

He said that efforts would be made to further strengthen the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and control inflation in the province, the Dawn newspaper reported.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly stood dissolved on Wednesday after the governor signed and approved the chief minister’s summary on the orders of PTI chief and ex-premier of Pakistan Imran Khan for the dissolution of the provincial legislature.

The government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday sent a summary to the governor for the approval of the dissolution of the provincial assembly before midnight, a move aimed at forcing the federal government to announce snap polls.

“In pursuance of provisions of Article 112(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan, I do hereby forward my advice for dissolution of the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 17th January 2023,” outgoing chief minister Khan said in a statement.

The KP Assembly was dissolved almost months before the expiry of its mandated period. The current assembly was to expire on August 13 this year.

On January 14, the Punjab Assembly was dissolved despite the Punjab governor’s refusal to sign the summary for the provincial assembly’s dissolution.

Former premier Khan in a bid to force the government to hold early general elections ordered the dissolution of provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Political pundits believe that the federal government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is in no mood to succumb to pressure from Khan whatsoever for holding general elections in the country before the expiry of the scheduled time in August this year.

The federal government will straight away go for holding elections in two provinces – Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – after the dissolution of the assemblies.

Federal Information Minister Maryum Aurangzeb has clearly stated that general elections as per the constitution of the country will be held in October this year.

“I Will Resign If Found…”, Says Pak PM Shahbaz Sharif On Allegations Of Involvement In The Attack On Imran Khan

    [ad_1]

Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, has stated that he is ready to resign if there is any evidence of the attack that would accuse him or the interior minister. Imran Khan’s claims were denied as baseless by Sharif. He said, “India is celebrating because the institution has been subjected to dirty and offensive attacks on social media,” according to reports.

In a dramatic addition, the prime minister says that God would protect his reputation and that he is offended by Imran Khan’s accusations.

Imran has been in turmoil for a very long period, and Pakistani politics have also been very turbulent. Imran was forced to resign as Pakistan’s prime minister a while back. Imran Khan was the target of gunfire in the interim. The injured man was Pakistan’s previous prime minister. During the Freedom Rally, Imran was the target of firing. In many different areas, there is a lot of pressure and rumour concerning who shot Imran that day. Imran Khan, however, has fueled new allegations that the Pakistani Prime Minister is responsible for the attack.

In a press conference in Lahore, Shahbaz said, ‘I request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a full court commission including senior and junior judges. Chief Justice (Umar Atta) Bandyal, I request you to constitute a full court commission. Will also send you a letter about this and I hope you will consider this request. If you do not respond to my request, such complaints will come again. He also said that if Imran Khan gives proof that I or the Home Minister or an army officer is involved in the conspiracy, then I will not be the Prime Minister from that moment. He said, ‘I will resign.’

Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan was injured in firing during his rally in Gujranwala in Pakistan’s Punjab province and was rushed to a hospital. He was moving inside an SUV while having his right leg wrapped.

When Imran Khan was speaking from atop a container truck to address his ongoing “long march” to Islamabad against the Shehbaz Sharif government, the attacker, who has since been apprehended, opened fire at him from below.

About 200 kilometres from Islamabad, the incident occurred nine months after he was unseated from office for losing the trust of the army establishment.
