Hathras conspiracy: UP STF nabs PFI functionary from Kerala wanted in UAPA case

    [ad_1]

Noida: The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday said it has arrested a “functionary” of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) from Kerala on charges of conspiracy to trigger riots in the wake of the alleged gangrape and death of a Dalit girl in Hathras in 2020.

This is the same case in which journalist Siddique Kappan and three others were arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in Mathura by the UP police in October 2020 while they were on their way to Hathras. Kappan walked out of jail in February this year.

Suspect Kamal KP (aged around 50) was arrested from his residence in Kizhattur, under Melattur police station limits in Malappuram district of Kerala at around 12 pm on Friday, the Special Task Force (STF) of the UP Police said in a statement.

Kamal, who is believed to be handling the “hit-squad” of the movement, was arrested by a joint team of the Noida and the Agra units of the STF.

He is among the top officer bearers of the PFI and has worked as office secretary at its Delhi headquarters too, according to the statement.

“Kamal KP was wanted in connection with a case lodged at the Maat police station in Mathura regarding a well-planned attempt to provoke riots in the wake of the unfortunate incident in Hathras. He is an active member of the banned PFI and carried a reward of Rs 25,000,” the UP STF said.

According to an STF officer, Kamal’s is the ninth arrest in connection with the case lodged under Indian Penal Code sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 295A (deliberate act to outrage religious feelings), 120B (criminal conspiracy), the IT Act and under provisions of the stringent anti-terror UAPA.

Of these nine, two suspects, including Kappan, have been released from jail so far, even as investigation continues into the case over the alleged role of the PFI in planning communal disharmony after the Hathras incident, the officer said.

Modi hope of BJP govt in Kerala overambitious, says Vijayan

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday reacted sharply on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that his BJP will form a government in Kerala after doing well in the Assembly polls held in three northeastern states.

“Modi’s statement is an overambitious statement. People who live here know the trials and tribulations of the minority communities and also know who is responsible for it. The minority communities here, who are under duress from the Sangh Parivar, just cannot take a pro-BJP stand. If there are stray incidents where some for vested interests make compromises, it should not be a generalised and if done it is going to be a big blunder,” said Vijayan in a statement.

He went on to point out that the Kerala soil is not a fertile ground for communal forces and has been proved also and the secular model adopted by Kerala is now slowly becoming the order of the day across the country.

Centre must change attitude towards agriculture: Niranjan Reddy in Kerala

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy at a conference in Trivandrum on “Developing value chain in agricultural products” said that CM K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) pro-agriculture policies are reason for the state’s success.

At Yiga 2023 held in Kerala’s capital, Reddy said that Telangana government prioritises agriculture first and 65 lakh farmers in the state are working on 50 lakh acres across the state. He further said that agriculture contributes to 18.2% of state’s GDP.

“Telangana’s agriculture sector is at the top of the country as a result of the policies followed in the last nine years. In the last two terms, the state government has focused on large-scale peasant agriculture and hence agricultural production has increased significantly.”

Reddy claimed that even young people are attracted towards agriculture as an employment sector.

Discussing future course of action, Reddy said that there is a need to divide the country into crop colonies. In order to make agriculture profitable, the Centre should cultivate its commitment to the agriculture sector and change its attitude.

Kerala: Complaint against Christian group for event on love, narcotic ‘jihad’

    [ad_1]

A complaint has been filed by the Student Islamic Organization (SIO) against Christian Association and Alliance for Social Action (CASA) for discussing topics that evoked hatred against the Muslim community in Kerala.

On February 26, CASA organised an awareness event in Pulpally, Wayanad district that spoke about ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Narcotic Jihad’ and child abuse. The audience attendance included school-going children.

Wayanad district officials Jyotish P T and A B Joy conducted the session. It shared the details of the events on its official Facebook page. It has several other posters and photos that feature campaigns against the Muslim community.

Meanwhile, CASA Kasargod, on its official Instagram page has posted a reel that stated it will bring more ‘awareness’ towards ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Narcotic Jihad’ and child abuse and no one can stop them.

“We know what to teach our children. A Muslim Islamic organisation need not interfere. At least, we do not teach them how to cut a hand or behead a person. We will continue teaching or bringing awareness to subjects such as Love Jihad, Narcotic Jihad and child abuse around Kerala whenever we are given permission. No SIO can stop us from doing so,” CASA Kasargod stated.

Athira Anilkumar Laly Kumari was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred at the junction of Stanningley Road and Cockshott Lane in Leeds last week.

Athira was waiting at the bus stop when a black Volkswagen Golf hit her, as well as another pedestrian in his forties, who continues to recover in a hospital.

“Emergency services attended and found that two pedestrians had suffered serious injuries following the collision, which involved a Volkswagen Golf car and caused damage to a bus stop,” the West Yorkshire Police said.

The Golf driver, a 25-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on bail as enquiries continue into the collision.

  • Centre saffronising news by appointing Hindustan Samachar: Kerala CM

Centre saffronising news by appointing Hindustan Samachar: Kerala CM

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday accused the Centre of “saffronisation of news” by designating an allegedly Sangh Parivar-affiliated media agency as the sole news source of state-run broadcaster Prasar Bharati.

The Chief Minister was referring to the Centre’s decision to appoint Hindustan Samachar as the sole news source for Prasar Bharati which operates the Doordarshan TV network and Akashvani, also called All India Radio.

Vijayan contended, in a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), that appointing Hindustan Samachar as the news source for the state-run broadcaster by terminating services of agencies like PTI and UNI amounted to “saffronisation of news”.

He alleged that this was a move to bring Doordarshan and Akashvani into the folds of the Sangh Parivar and was therefore a threat to democracy.

Hindustan Samachar was founded by RSS leader Shivram Shankar Apte, also the founder general secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and it has always worked for the Sangh Parivar, Vijayan claimed in the statement.

The Sangh Parivar has been trying to keep Prasar Bharti under its control ever since it came to power, he further claimed.

This, he said, was evident from the Centre’s 2020 decision to appoint Jagdish Upasana, the group editor of RSS publications Panchajanya and Organiser, as the chairman of Prasar Bharti’s recruitment board.

Besides that, Prasar Bharti showed live RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Vijayadashami speech, but did not broadcast the Independence day speech of the Chief Minister of Tripura, he claimed.

All this indicates the implementation of the fascist desire that no voice of dissent should be heard, Vijayan alleged and urged the secular democratic society of the country to recognise and protest against this threat to democracy.
