Kejriwal levelling allegations on Centre, PM to hide own mistakes: Delhi BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi BJP slammed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, accusing him of creating a row over the city government’s budget for “cheap publicity” and to hide his own mistakes.

Addressing a press conference here, Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva said Kejriwal was levelling allegations at the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to divert attention from the corruption charges faced by the city government.

“The Kejriwal government sat on the clarifications sought by the Ministry of Home Affairs for three days and then blamed the Centre for stopping the budget,” Sachdeva said.

Kejriwal on Monday alleged that the Centre had stopped the budget presentation of his government.

The Delhi budget, which was to be tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday, requires prior approval from the Centre. The Centre finally approved the budget, paving way for its tabling in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Addressing the Assembly earlier in the day, Kejriwal assailed the Centre and the LG office, saying the whole issue was raised by them for ego satisfaction that Delhi government bows down to them.

“We replied to their queries and no other change was made in the budget and now it has been approved. This shows that the whole thing was created for ego satisfaction,” he said.

Sachdeva said the outburst of Kejriwal and use of “derogatory” words by him in the Assembly showed he was “frustrated” and was trying to divert attention from “corruption” of his government.

He didn’t tell why his government sat over the budget file for three days and did not send it to the LG earlier.

“The file was sent to the LG at 9.30 PM on Monday and within next 12 hours it was cleared by the Centre,” he said.

This shows that Kejriwal is only trying to defame the central government by doing “low level politics” and levelling “baseless” allegations, he alleged.

‘Please don’t stall Delhi budget’, Kejriwal writes to PM

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday requesting him to “not stop Delhi’s budget”, amid a row between the Centre and the AAP dispensation in the national capital over the issue.

The presentation of the Delhi government’s Budget for 2023-24, which was scheduled for Tuesday, has been put on hold with the Kejriwal dispensation and the central government trading charges over allocations under various heads.

“This is the first in the last 75 years that a state’s budget has been stalled. Why are you upset with Delhiites? Please don’t stall Delhi’s budget. With folded hands, Delhiites urge you to pass their budget,” the chief minister said in the letter.

Speaking at a News18 programme on Monday, Kejriwal charged that the Centre was resorting to “gundagardi” and said it was the first time in the country’s history that the budget of a government was put on hold. A video clip of his speech was tweeted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Sources in the city government said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has stopped the budget and it will not be tabled in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday.

As the chief minister lashed out at the Centre, sources in the MHA said the ministry has sought clarification from the AAP government as its budget proposal had high allocation for advertisement and relatively low funding for infrastructure and other development initiatives.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the chief minister referred to the Economic Survey report on per capita income rising by 14.18 per cent in Delhi said the national capital was doing “exceedingly well” despite obstacles.

“Delhi is doing exceedingly well, despite all obstacles being created on daily basis. Imagine if such obstacles were not created and all govts worked together for the welfare of people. Then Delhi would grow multiple times faster,” he tweeted.

According to the Economic Survey tabled in the Delhi Assembly on Monday, per capita income in the national capital rose by 14.18 per cent to Rs 4,44,768 in 2022-23 at current prices compared to Rs 3,89,529 in 2021-22.

The per capita income of Delhi has been around 2.6 times higher as compared to the national average, both at current and constant prices. It was Rs 3,31,112 in 2020-21.

The tax collection of the Delhi government registered a “tremendous” growth rate of 36 per cent during 2021-22 (provisional) as compared to the negative growth of 19.53 per cent in 2020-21 due to COVID-19 pandemic, the survey tabled by state Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot said.

“Delhi’s growth speaks,” Kejriwal said in another tweet.

Delhi Assembly: BJP to bring no-confidence motion against Kejriwal, AAP to attack Centre, LG

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The budget session of the Delhi Assembly, starting Friday, is likely to witness heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches, with the ruling AAP targeting LG V K Saxena and the Centre over the arrest of Manish Sisodia and the BJP bringing a no-confidence motion against the Arvind Kejriwal government.

The session will start with an address by the lieutenant governor (LG) and the budget will be presented on March 21, officials said.

A senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said that the session will have discussions on the arrest of former deputy chief minister Sisodia and how the lieutenant governor was interfering in the works of the elected government.

“The party will also raise the issue of the LG being involved in an incident with noted social activist Medha Patkar in 2002. We will also raise the issue of misuse of CBI and ED by the BJP-ruled Centre and the LG’s interference in government functioning,” he said.

Another senior functionary of the AAP said, “The misuse of CBI and ED by the Centre is the biggest issue. The world’s best education minister, Manish Sisodia, has been put behind bars in a false case. This is the biggest issue of Delhi.”

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said in a statement that the BJP will bring a no-confidence motion against the Arvind Kejriwal government over its involvement in “corruption”.

The BJP MLAs, in a joint statement, said that they will corner the Kejriwal government as its two ministers were behind bars and it was facing allegations of “scams” involving liquor policy, classroom construction, electricity subsidy, and snooping by its Feedback Unit.

“In such a situation, this government has no moral or constitutional right to be in office and a no-confidence motion is being brought against the government,” it said.

Bidhuri said the budget session has been called only for five days, out of which the provision of question hour has been kept only on two days.

“This is like attacking the rights of the legislators and this government is continuously robbing the rights of the legislators,” he alleged.

The BJP will demand that the session be extended by at least 10 days, he said.

The BJP MLAs have given notices to discuss the serious problems of Delhi in the Assembly and they want that all issues should be discussed so that the truth can come before the public, he said.

Issues such as corruption, air pollution, drinking water crisis, collapse of the transport system, non-opening of new schools and colleges, lack of teachers, irregularities in mohalla clinics, and the Yamuna pollution will be raised by the opposition MLAs, he said.

Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said the session will focus on making Delhi a modern, clean and development-oriented city.

“There will be more focus on providing funds for sanitation, cleaning garbage mountains, making world class infrastructure in Delhi, making it development oriented in terms of good transport, making well connected network and bringing more electric buses.”

The annual budget for 2023-24 will be presented by Kailash Gahlot who assumed the charge as finance minister after the arrest of Sisodia by the CBI in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam.

AAP to contest polls in all 230 assembly seats in MP: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that his party will contest the upcoming assembly elections in all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh.

Kejriwal made this announcement while addressing a large gathering of AAP workers in Bhopal. Kejriwal along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was on their maiden visit ahead of the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh due later this year.

While addressing the gathering of party workers and people who came from different parts of Madhya Pradesh, especially from tribal areas, Kejriwal tried to convince them highlighting his ‘Delhi model’ freebies.

He promised that the people of Madhya Pradesh too will find better government schools for their children, health infrastructures will be developed in Delhi’s model and also cheaper electricity, if AAP forms government.

Meanwhile, he also claimed that winning of Singrauli mayoral seat was just a trailer, and the AAP will show a real picture after winning assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.

“People of Madhya Pradesh want to say goodby to ‘mama’ (CM Shivraj) and they had done it in 2018, but the Congress MLAs were sold and BJP was back into power again. It means, even if you vote to Congress, the BJP will form the government. It is only AAP which can change this corrupt political system of Madhya Pradesh,” Kejriwal added.

Notably, two months back Kejriwal had dissolved the entire team of Madhya Pradesh and fresh appointments were made.

The AAP claimed to give a big setback to both the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh in upcoming assembly elections, reiterating that people want change here.

Ashok Gehlot-Vasundhara Raje are good friends, says Kejriwal in Jaipur

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: In what could be seen as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) electoral entry into Rajasthan, a Tiranga Yatra was taken out in Jaipur in which AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also participated.

At a public meeting held at Ajmeri Gate after the Tiranga Yatra, Kejriwal said that he had heard that Vasundhara Raje and Ashok Gehlot share a strong friendship. When Gehlot faces a crisis, Vasundhara makes the entire party stand by him. Similarly, when the BJP was taking action against Raje, Gehlot made the Congress stand by her.

He said that since independence till date, the Congress has ruled Rajasthan for 48 years and the BJP for 18 years. Now the BJP-Congress cannot say that they did not get a chance. The condition of Rajasthan is pathetic. Farmers are committing suicide, papers are getting leaked, war widows are being insulted. From 1993 till now, you have given a chance to the BJP and the Congress alternately and both have looted Rajasthan alternately, he said.

Kejriwal stated that “there is a mutual setting between the Congress and the BJP. They accuse each other of scams during elections. After the elections, no action is taken against a single person. Our setting is for the public. We will expose the scams of both,” he added.

Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was sent to jail because he is teaching poor children for free. The work that we did in Delhi is now being done in Punjab. We gave 27,000 government jobs in one year. Contract workers were regularised. Do you want this to happen in Rajasthan, he asked.

Punjab CM Mann said that God has sent a broom to sweep away the Congress and the BJP. The people of Rajasthan are also ready to sweep. Now the third option has come to Rajasthan, he announced, indicating the AAP to be the third choice after the Congress and the BJP in the state.

Maan said that if you want to change your luck, then change the button in the EVM. At the same time, it will work to change the fate of your children. Double corruption is happening due to double engine (government). That’s why there is a need to stop the double engine. There should be a discussion on the broom (AAP poll symbol) and Kejriwal in every house, he added.

MP: AAP’s Tuesday rally could see ‘big announcements’ by Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to make some big welfare announcements in the Aam Aadmi Party rally in Bhopal’s BHEL Dussehra Maidan on Tuesday as he kicks off the party’s campaign for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls to be held later this year, a functionary said.

With the rally, the AAP is aiming to make a dent in the politics of MP that so far has been centred around the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been in power for a dominant part of the last two decades, and the Congress.

Kejriwal will be joined by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at the rally, organisers said.

“Kejriwal is expected to make some big announcements. We are giving very cheap electricity in Delhi, free quality education and health facilities to the poor unlike what is happening in MP. Here power and health facilities are very costly,” an AAP leader told PTI from the rally venue.

“We have worked hard to ensure one lakh people across MP attend the rally. After this, we are going to hold such big rallies in all the divisional headquarters in the state. AAP has enrolled more than five lakh members since a drive was launched by organisation general secretary Sandeep Pathak on February 4,” former MP AAP chief Pankaj Singh told PTI.

Pathak, who is considered one of the main architects of the AAP’s strategy in Punjab and Gujarat, has toured Bhopal, Indore, Rewa, Gwalior and Jabalpur as part of preparations for the Assembly polls.

The AAP, which recently announced it would contest all 230 Assembly seats in MP, is buoyed by its performance in the urban local body polls in July-August last year, where it claimed it had garnered 6.3 per cent of the vote share.

It had fielded 1,500 candidates for local body polls and the party managed to win the mayor’s post in Singrauli in the state’s Vindh region.

“Fifty-two candidates won in the local body polls, while 135-140 candidates came second. In panchayat polls, which are held without party symbols, AAP-supported candidates won 10 posts of district panchayat, 23 of janpad, 119 sarpanches, and 250 panch,” Singh said.

The AAP had won a landslide victory in Punjab, with its candidates defeating several Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal heavyweights.

In Gujarat, it undertook a high-decibel campaign promising several welfare measures, which it called “guarantees”, resulting in five wins in the 182-member House in the western state with a vote share of 13 per cent.

The 2018 elections in Madhya Pradesh threw up a hung Assembly, with the Congress emerging as the largest party with 114 seats in the 230-member House. The BJP won 109 seats.

The Congress formed a coalition government under Kamal Nath, but it fell in March 2020 after several MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia walked out and joined the BJP, paving the way for Shivraj Singh Chouhan to return as chief minister.

Kejriwal to take out ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Jaipur on Monday

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann will be in Jaipur on Monday to address a public meeting at Ajmeri Gate following which they will take out the ‘Tiranga Yatra’.

AAP’s Rajasthan in-charge Vinay Mishra said that from Monday, the party is going to start the election preparations in Rajasthan.

Kejriwal and Mann will start the election preparations through ‘Tiranga Yatra’.

The ‘Tiranga Yatra’ will reach Ajmeri Gate via Sanganeri Gate.

Mishra said that “the party has enrolled 4.50 lakh new members in just 15 days”.

“Keeping in view the response of the people, we have organised the Tiranga Yatra programme. AAP will actively contest the next Assembly elections in Rajasthan,” he said.

Mishra also claimed that the Congress and the BJP were in collusion.

“Wherever they see a threat from the Aam Aadmi Party, both become one. The same game of collusion is going on in Rajasthan as well. When we wanted to ‘gherao’ the BJP state headquarters, the Congress government here stopped us through the police. The people have understood that this game of their collusion is not going to last long,” he said.

Currently, there is no executive body of the AAP in Rajasthan.

There is a possibility that after the public meeting on Monday, Arvind Kejriwal may announce the party’s Rajasthan unit president.

Besides, appointments could also be announced for other important posts of the state executive, said sources.

Kejriwal government’s inaction responsible for water crisis: BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP on Sunday blamed the Arvind Kejriwal government’s “inaction” for wastage and shortage of water in Delhi as well as for supply of dirty water.

Delhi BJP Working President Virendra Sachdeva said that for the last decade, the capital’s people are facing the problem of irregular/short supply of water as well as of dirty water but the Delhi government and the Delhi Jal Board blame the Haryana government despite the state giving its fixed raw water quota.

Despite the BJP’s repeated demands, the Kejriwal government never convened an all-party meeting on the water crisis or on the “corruption” of the Delhi Jal Board, he said, claimung that Lt. Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena’s status report after the visit to the Wazirabad water plant and reservoir has exposed the “negligence and inaction” of the Kejriwal government.

He said the Kejriwal government’s negligence in not cleaning the reservoir is responsible for thousands of people getting water-borne diseases in Delhi every year, while it was shocking to know that the level of silt in the Wazirabad Water Plant and Reservoir is more than double the estimated level and leads to Delhi being unable to hold the water coming from Haryana and about 9 lakh million cusecs of water just flows waste into the Yamuna.

On the other hand, the silt causes supply of dirty water, he claimed, demanding that the Delhi government should immediately get the Wazirabad & Sonia Vihar Water reservoirs cleaned and bring out a Summer Action Plan for water supply.

After ED arrests Sisodia, Kejriwal says ‘people will answer’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy case, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that people are watching everything and they will give a befitting reply.

Kejriwal said in a tweet that the Centre’s only intention to keep Sisodia behind the bars in any case.

“Manish was first arrested by the CBI. The CBI did not find any evidence, no money was found in the raids. There is a bail hearing tomorrow. Manish would have been released tomorrow. So today ED arrested him. They have only one intention to keep Manish inside at any cost, creating new fake cases everyday. The public is watching and will answer,” Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi.

The ED made the arrest after questioning Sisodia for hours inside the Tihar jail as part of its money laundering probe into the alleged irregularities in the 2021-22 excise policy of Delhi, officials said.

Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 27 in the same case and he is currently in judicial custody till March 20. His bail plea will come up for hearing before the Rouse Avenue District Courts on Friday.

ED sources told IANS the probe agency has got permission to quiz Sisodia for three days, and it will seek his custodial remand.

Jammu, 8 March.  Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and vice president of Jammu province Amit Kapoor accused the BJP of playing hide and seek on property tax and other important issues faced by the people.

Strongly opposing the imposition of property tax on the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the AAP leader launched a scathing attack on the BJP.

He said that the government is imposing property tax on the people at a time when they are facing economic crisis and are facing political frustration in the absence of an elected government.  Along with this, he said that the arrest of senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been done with a sense of revenge so that the anger of the opponents can be treated.

He said that the BJP is trying to mislead the public on all important issues just to fool the general public and maintain its influence among the people.  He said the reality is that the BJP-led central government is running the affairs of the UT through the LG administration and all important decisions are either taken in Delhi or in consultation with the central government.

Amit Kapoor said that whether it is the killing of innocents, especially the minorities, Kashmiri Pandits, Jammu employees and others, and resolving the issues of their resettlement in a safe environment, strengthening the security arrangements in the vulnerable areas of the minorities,

He said that all sections of people were being crushed under heavy taxes and arbitrary orders and directions.

He said that this has generated huge public anger against the government and in view of this public anger, the government should withdraw the anti-people decisions immediately.

Attacking the BJP government for the arrest of senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, he said that BJP is doing this to suppress the voice of the opponents.  He said that Aam Aadmi Party will continue to raise issues of public interest and your leaders will not come under any kind of pressure due to such tactics of BJP.
