Arvind Kejriwal trying to divert attention from scam with his theatrics: Delhi BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi BJP on Saturday said AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was trying to divert attention from “scams” of his government by indulging in “theatrics” and is probably scared that he may end up in jail like his deputy, Manish Sisodia.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Chief Minister, who has been asked to appear before the CBI in connection with an alleged liquor scam, hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the probe agencies were trying to frame him by torturing and threatening accused and witnesses in the excise case.

“Kejriwal is speaking the language of gangsters like Atiq and indulging in theatrics to divert attention from scams of his government. He is also trying to avoid the questions of the investigating agencies by giving arguments,” alleged Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva.

    MS Education Academy

The secrets of the Kejriwal government’s liquor scam and Jal Board “loot” are being exposed, the whole Aam Aadmi Party is flickering like a lamp about to go out, Sachdeva said.

“This morning we all heard gangster Atiq Ahmed asking the police to first bring the phone on which he spoke, and then he will tell who he spoke to. On the same lines, this afternoon Arvind Kejriwal said first bring the scammed 100 crore rupees and then he will accept whether the scam happened or not,” said Sachdeva.

Kejriwal had earlier said that the probe agencies claimed a graft of Rs 100 crore in the alleged liquor scam but failed to produce a single penny or any other evidence of it.

Sachdeva said the AAP spokespersons are comparing Kejriwal with Lord Krishna and trying to portray him as a nationalist.

But the people of the country have not forgotten Kejriwal’s questioning the valour of the Indian army and his suggestion to build a hospital instead of Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

“Why did they withdraw the liquor policy after the CBI probe was recommended? Why was Rs 144 crore waived under the policy to benefit liquor mafia? He should also answer if the policy was changed in a meeting at his residence,” Sachdeva asked Kejriwal, and said 100 letters will be sent to him every day till he gives his response.

BJP MP Parvesh Verma said, “He should give us time to meet. I will prove corruption with all the proof. Will Kejriwal quit politics if the corruption charges are proved?”

Verma said that Kejriwal is scared because perhaps he has realised it’s now his turn to go to jail.

He also alleged that Kejriwal did not keep a single department with him, nor signed any file, apparently suggesting that he knew about the alleged corruption.

  • If I am corrupt, no one in world is honest: CM Kejriwal

If I am corrupt, no one in world is honest: CM Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said he will appear before the CBI in the excise policy case and asserted that if he was “corrupt” then no one in the world was “honest”.

Addressing a press conference here over the CBI summons to him in the excise policy case, he claimed that BJP leaders were demanding his arrest and that if the saffron party had “ordered” the probe agency to arrest him, it cannot refuse to do so.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned the AAP leader in connection with the case on Sunday. He has been asked to be present at the agency headquarters at 11 am to answer queries of the investigating team, officials said.

    MS Education Academy

The central probe agency has already arrested former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the case.

It is alleged that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 to grant licences to liquor traders favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge strongly refuted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The policy was later scrapped.

Kejriwal also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, levelling allegations of corruption against him.

“How can corruption be an issue for such a person who is submerged in corruption from head to toe,” he said and cited the charges levelled against Modi by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik.

“I want to say to Modiji if Kejriwal is a thief or corrupt, then there isn’t a single honest man in this world,” he asserted.

Kejriwal said no party in the 75-year history of independent India had been targetted like the AAP because it has given hope to people which no other party has been able to do so far.

“The AAP has given hope to people that it can eradicate poverty, provide education and employment to their children. The prime minister wants to crush this hope,” he said.

In 30 years of the BJP rule in Gujarat, in which Modi was the chief minister for 12 years, the condition of not a single school could be improved, while the AAP government in Delhi turned around the government schools in five years, he said.

“A temporary classroom had to be set up when the prime minister visited a school in Gujarat…,” Kejriwal quipped.

He said the BJP was trying to corner the AAP and it first sent the party’s “number 2 and number 3” (Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain) leaders behind the bars and now they wanted to catch hold of him.

“The issue is not corruption or liquor scam. How could it be for a person who is submerged in corruption? I had cited various instances of corruption in my speech at Delhi Assembly in March and I got a call from Sanjay Singh (party MP) that I was next,” said the AAP supremo.

Batting for the now scrapped Excise Policy 2021-22 of his government, Kejriwal said it could have ended corruption.

“The same policy has led to a 50 per cent rise in revenue in the last year,” he claimed.

Kejriwal alleged torture and threats to those arrested by the central agencies in connection with the liquor scam probe.

“I want to ask the prime minister what is going on. They catch anyone and then torture them to name Kejriwal or Sisodia. That is their probe,” he said.

Kejriwal alleged that the CBI and the ED “lied” in court that Sisodia destroyed 14 mobile phones to hide evidence.

“The seizure memo of ED shows that it has four of the 14 phones, while one was with the CBI. Our own investigation has revealed that the remaining nine phones (numbers) were active and being used by persons like AAP volunteers,” he claimed.

Later in a tweet, Kejriwal said, “We will file appropriate cases against the CBI and the ED officials for perjury and producing false evidence in courts.”

Kejriwal further said it has been alleged that a bribe of Rs 100 crore was taken, but asked where was the money.

“More than 400 raids were conducted…where is the money? It was said that the money was used in the Goa elections. They questioned every Goa vendor whom we had employed, but could not find anything,” he asserted.

Every transaction in question had taken place through cheques and was duly reported to the Election Commission, he said.

“When no bribe has been taken, there is no way on earth for these agencies to find any money trail,” the CM said.

He questioned the agencies for not coming out with any evidence in support of their charges.

“If I say I gave Rs 1,000 crores to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 at 7 pm, will the ED-CBI arrest him? There has to have some evidence.,” Kejriwal said.

He cited the names of several persons under the net in the excise case and alleged third-degree treatment of them.

“One Chandan Reddy was beaten so badly that his eardrums burst. A witness was pressured to sign a fabricated statement by threatening to jail his father and wife. Some others were coerced into giving false statements that they later withdrew in the courts,” he claimed.

The lawyer of one of the witnesses has gone on record in court to highlight how his client was being “harassed” to “implicate Delhi politicians”, said the AAP convener.

Kejriwal said the whole issue is that all the parties are busy with loot and people now have hope from the AAP.

If they also started building schools and hospitals where will be the money for them to loot, he added.

Central agencies lying to courts: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on CBI summons

    [ad_1]

Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged that he knew he would be next in line to be summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) since the day he spoke against corruption in Delhi assembly.

Kejriwal was addressing a press conference in the national capital a day after he was summoned by the CBI on Sunday for questioning in the Delhi excise police case.

While talking to media persons, he said, “Central agencies are lying to courts against us in the liquor policy probe. Arrested people are being tortured, pressure is being created on them to nail us.”

    MS Education Academy

He added, “The CBI has falsely accused Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case. People were beaten to obtain false statements. The agencies are torturing people for evidence. This was a great policy to eradicate corruption.”

The CBI has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on April 16.

AAP leaders said that Kejriwal will appear before CBI for questioning.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, a key aide of Kejriwal, is in jail over alleged irregularities in the excise policy case.

Sisodia was arrested by ED and CBI in the ongoing investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy in Delhi.

The CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26, 2023. Later on March 9, the ED arrested him, after hours of questioning at Tihar Jail.

The ED and the CBI had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval.

The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection, the probe agencies said.

  • Anti-national powers against quality education for Dalits sent Sisodia to jail: Kejriwal

Anti-national powers against quality education for Dalits sent Sisodia to jail: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said some “anti-national” people in the country sent Manish Sisodia to jail because they do not want quality education for Dalit and underprivileged children.

Kejriwal also said he holds B R Ambedkar in higher regard than Mahatma Gandhi because of his unshakable resolve in the face of adversities in pursuit of education.

Addressing an event to mark Ambedkar Jayanti here, Kejriwal said Ambedkar dreamt of quality education for all in government schools, but “these people ruined government schools in the last 75 years and private schools mushroomed in the country”.

    MS Education Academy

“God sent a man named Manish Sisodia to correct this wrong. He would go on a round of Delhi schools starting at 6 am. He turned things around within five years. We can say Amdekar’s dream is being realized in Delhi.

“But some anti-national powers don’t want the country to progress. Who are these people who do not want Dalit students to get good education. All these people together sent Sisodia to jail. These people are enemies of the country,” he alleged.

He added that those who dared to revolutionize the education sector in the past were imprisoned by autocrats.

Kejriwal said some people also got the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana stalled but he will get the scheme resumed in a month.

Free coaching is given to underprivileged students under the scheme.

The Delhi CM said India gave birth to many great personalities but “Ambedkar was the brightest of them all”.

“We decided to keep photos of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh in all government offices. Many people said I forgot Gandhiji. No, I did not. I respect Gandhiji a lot. He fought for the country, made sacrifices, he was a great personality but I respect Ambedkar more.

“Ambedkar was born in a very poor family. He faced a lot of trouble in school, but he didn’t stop studying. He went on to study at Columbia University in the US in 1913. You have the internet today. You can search on google. You know about Columbia University. How did he get to know about the university in that era? This perplexes me. This is nothing but magic,” he said.

Delhi Excise scam case: CBI summons Arvind Kejriwal for questioning

    [ad_1]

The CBI called Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in the Delhi excise policy case on Sunday (April 16).

The summons comes as AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia is being held in connection with the same investigation, and other arrests have been made by investigators.

Kejriwal has also been summoned by the Goa Police for an alleged defacement of public property, for which he must appear for questioning on April 27. The CBI has summoned the chief minister for the first time in the case, despite the BJP’s claims that Kejriwal was the brains behind the alleged fraud.

Kejriwal stated that all AAP leaders must be prepared to go to jail as the Election Commission formally recognised the party as a national party.

Kejriwal promises free electricity, jobs if AAP forms govt in Assam

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday promised free electricity and jobs if AAP came to power in Assam, while he accused the ruling of BJP of doing nothing but play “dirty politics” in the Northeastern state.

Aam Aadmi Party governments in Delhi and Punjab are giving free electricity to their states, and it will be the same in Assam, too, if the party forms government, Kejriwal said at a rally here.

He promised jobs for all unemployed youths of Assam if AAP is voted to power, adding that the party has given employment to 12 lakh people in Delhi in seven years, and 28,000 people in one year in Punjab.

    MS Education Academy

Kejriwal also assured of providing piped water to all households of Guwahati within a year of the AAP forming government in the state.

“AAP came to power in Delhi in 2015 and the BJP here in 2016. Today, we have changed the face of Delhi. What has Himanta babu (Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma) done for the state in seven years? Nothing, only dirty politics,” Kejriwal alleged.

On Sarma’s threat of suing him if he raised corruption charges against the BJP leader, Kejriwal said his Assam counterpart has not learnt the culture of people of the state, who accord a warm welcome to their guests.

“For two days, he has been threatening me that he will put me in jail. Am I a terrorist? I invite Himanta babu to come to my house in Delhi for tea. And if he can make time, also have a meal with me. I will show him around the city, the wonderful work we have done there,” Kejriwal said.

Sarma had on Friday threatened to file a defamation case against Kejriwal if the Aam Aadmi Party leader alleged corruption cases against him outside the assembly.

Kejriwal had reportedly said in the Delhi Assembly that there are cases against Sarma.

Taking a swipe at the Assam CM over the recent Class 10 board exam paper leak, he said: “A government which cannot even keep the question papers safe, how will they run a state? In Delhi or Punjab, question papers never get leaked.”

“It has to be an insider job. Someone is selling the future of your children,” he claimed.

Raising the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s academic qualification, Kejriwal said only an educated person can ensure development of a country.

“In a poor country like ours, being illiterate or less educated is not a crime. We have no problem with that. But, the prime minister should be educated. If not, it is a dangerous thing,” Kejriwal maintained.

He asserted that demonetisation and the three farm laws that were later withdrawn are instances of Modi being “fooled” by his advisors.

“The manager of a company needs degrees to fit his role. The top manager’ of the country would also definitely require some degree,” he said.

The AAP chief’s comments came in the wake of the Gujarat High Court quashing a seven-year-old order of the Central Information Commission (CIC), which had asked the Gujarat University to provide information on Modi’s degree to him.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who was also present at the rally, said the country needs a “new engine” for growth.

“They (the BJP) keep talking about some double engine of growth. But, that is not needed. What is needed is a new engine’, one that runs with speed and more importantly remains on track,” he said, pointing towards Kejriwal.

He also accused the BJP government at the Centre of selling off public assets, attempting to stifle the opposition, and working for the benefit of select corporates.

“The country is being sold and we cannot even raise our voice or put up posters against it,” Mann said, apparently referring to police action in Delhi over posters demanding removal of the prime minister.

  • Gujarat HC’s order on PM Modi’s degree raises more suspicion: Kejriwal

Gujarat HC’s order on PM Modi’s degree raises more suspicion: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: People, who have the right to know about the academic qualification of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are “stunned” by the Gujarat High Court’s verdict, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

The Gujarat High Court on Friday quashed a seven-year-old order of the Central Information Commission (CIC) which had asked the Gujarat University to provide information on Modi’s degree to Kejriwal.

Allowing the Gujarat University’s appeal against the CIC order, Justice Biren Vaishnav also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal and asked him to deposit the amount within four weeks to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA).

“Entire country is stunned by the High Court’s order because there should be a freedom of seeking information and asking questions in a democracy,” Kejriwal said at a press conference here.

“The High court’s order has increased the suspicion over the prime minister’s education,” he charged.

If the prime minister had studied from Gujarat University or Delhi University, they should have been celebrating it, instead they are hiding the information, the Delhi chief minister said.

“If there is a valid degree of Modi, why Gujarat University is not showing it,” he asked.

There can only be two reasons why Gujarat university is not ready to give information on the prime minister’s academic qualification it’s either due to Modi’s arrogance, or, his degree is fake, Kejriwal said.

He, however, went on to add that being illiterate is not “a crime or sin” as there is so much poverty in the country. “Many of us are not in a position to get formal education due to financial conditions in the families.”

Such rank poverty continues to afflict the nation even after 75 years of independence, he added.

Kejriwal pressed on with his question on Modi’s education, saying the question becomes imperative since being the “top manager” of the country, Modi has to take so many important decisions every day, including those pertaining to science and economy.

“If the prime minister is not educated then the officers and various types of people will come and get his signature anywhere, get passed from him anything, like the note ban (demonetisation) due to which the country had to suffer a lot,” he charged.

“If the prime minister modi was educated he would not have implemented the note ban,” the CM added.

L-G our ‘guest’ who knows nothing about Delhi, says Kejriwal; seeks his support

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday referred to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena as a “guest” who “knows nothing about Delhi”, while asking him to work with the AAP dispensation for the development of the national capital.

Kejriwal also attacked Saxena for obstructing various initiatives of his government, but asserted that despite all the hurdles, the government was doing good work.

“Teachers’ Finland training got delayed, who benefitted from this? No one. Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission vice-chairman Jasmine Shah’s office was sealed and is locked since last six months. Who benefitted from this? No one. The budget got delayed because of him. But the same budget was passed without any changes later. The L-G is now planning to withdraw electricity subsidy,” the chief minister said in the Delhi Assembly.

He also said that excellent work has been done in the education sector in the city.

“We just did the work of a facilitator. The hard work was done by the teachers. This spirit in them came from the training they got abroad. Some principals had to go abroad in December and March which was stopped by the Lieutenant Governor (L-G). Who benefited from this?” he asked.

The AAP supremo further asked L-G Saxena to cooperate with the AAP government and work together for the development of Delhi.

“He (L-G) has come from Gujarat. He is our guest. He knows nothing about Delhi. I do not think he would be knowing even the names of Delhi roads. But we do not want fights. We want to work together. I would like to ask the L-G to cooperate with our government and work for the development of the city,” Kejriwal said.

He added that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government can “pitch in” if the L-G “needs help” to manage the law and order situation in the city.

“We need to do a lot of work and we all can do it together. Why can’t the L-G take our help to manage law and order? It is not India-Pakistan war. When the CM and L-G start working together, it will actually be a double engine government,” he said.

Saxena had addressed the Delhi Assembly on the first day of the Budget Session in which he had appreciated the work of the AAP government.

Talking about Saxena’s address, Kejriwal said, “L-G sahab said my government has done a lot of work in education and health. You saw how his (L-G) chest swelled with pride. I want to tell him we will give more such chances to make you feel proud — if you do not interfere in our work.”

  • Kejriwal says even British had never booked those who put up posters against their rule

Kejriwal says even British had never booked those who put up posters against their rule

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Lashing out at the Centre over the action against display of “Modi Hatao, Desh Bachao” posters, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said even the British had never booked those who put up posters against them during the colonial rule.

“Even before independence when freedom fighters used to put up posters, there were no FIRs or action against them by the British,” Kejriwal said.

“Bhagat Singh had pasted a lot of posters during the British rule, not a single FIR was lodged against him,” he said.

Addressing a public meet at Jantar Mantar, the AAP supremo said he has “no objections” about the posters that were put up against him and that those behind the same “should not be arrested”.

“Why is the prime minister so scared? I saw that posters were put up against me and I do not have any problem with that. There won’t be any FIR or arrest. Some people are taking the country towards dictatorship. Together, we have to save the country’s constitution and democracy, we have to save the country,” Kejriwal asserted.

He urged the Centre to release those who were arrested in connection with the “Modi hatao, desh bachao” (Remove Modi, Save the Nation) posters.

The chief minister further said governance gets “complicated” when a leader is “uneducated”.

“How can a leader who is uneducated make decisions for the country? When a leader is uneducated, governance is bound to get complicated. I want to ask the citizens, do they think an educated prime minister is required to run our country in this 21st century?” he asked.

Kejriwal also alleged that corruption cases have been “closed” against those leaders who switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The meeting organised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was attended by Kejriwal, his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, Education Minister Atishi and AAP MP Sanjay Singh.

Targeting the central dispensation, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the saffron party can be thrown out of power even if it had won two Lok Sabha elections.

“The Union government has sold the country. They might have won the Lok Sabha elections twice, but they can also be removed from power. One should not be too arrogant. Arvind Kejriwal has always said that no matter which chair you hold, you should always be humble,” Mann said.

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged that the financial situation in the country is in the doldrums due to “rising inflation and unemployment”.

“We will crush the arrogance of the central government. Inflation is touching new heights, unemployment is rising. Agniveer scheme was another loss for our youths. Farmers are forced to commit suicide. We are working for the betterment of people, but the Centre is working only for (industrialist Gautam) Adani,” he said.

  • Impressed by Telangana’s Kanti Velugu, will replicate it in Delhi: Kejriwal

Impressed by Telangana’s Kanti Velugu, will replicate it in Delhi: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal emphasised the need for states to learn from one another and progress together. He remarked that politics should be pushed aside in order to achieve a better government.

At a press conference in the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday, Kejriwal remembered his trip to Telangana in response to an invitation from chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to observe the execution of the ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme in the state.

“We recently travelled to Telangana, where around four crore people in the state were examined for eye disorders at no cost. Everyone who requires surgery, drugs, or spectacles receives them for free,” he stated.

This is not the first time that the Delhi chief minister expressed his thoughts on the mass eye check-up programme of the Telangana government.

The initiative impressed the Delhi chief minister, who declared intentions to replicate it in the national capital as well. He stated that the Kanti Velugu programme would benefit the poor in all states, so he decided to implement it in both Delhi and Punjab.

He stated that Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was similarly pleased by the Telangana government’s irrigation achievements and hence returned to the state to examine them.

Kejriwal was speaking to the media about the ‘Progressive Chief Ministers Group,’ or ‘G-8,’ which he suggested. He had sent letters inviting the chief ministers of West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Punjab.

He went on to say that the platform was intended for chief ministers to travel to other states and learn from one another. “It is a governance platform, not an alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. We’ll travel to different states and learn what we can from each other,” he stated.

A dinner meeting was scheduled on March 18. However, it did not take place owing to previous engagements by all of the chief ministers, Kejriwal said.

He stated that the meeting was still being arranged and that an update will be made once a definite date had been determined. He asserted that the gathering was a work-in-progress and was likely to take place after mid-April.
