Watch Video: Iftikhar Ahmed smashes three sixes in a row against Haris Rauf during record-breaking, 45-ball T20 ton
Iftikhar Ahmed turned on beast mode in Fortune Barishal’s clash against Rangpur Riders as he brought up his maiden T20 century. En route his T20 ton, Iftikhar took on his Pakistan teammate Haris Rauf and smashed him for three consecutive sixes in the penultimate over on January 19.
Batting at No.6 and walking out after his team had been reduced to 46-4 within the powerplay, Iftikhar combined with skipper Shakib Al Hasan to steady the innings. The Pakistan batter started off cautiously and was batting at 22 off 20 at one point before he got going with four maximums in the 14th over, bowled by Shamim Hossain.
Iftikhar was also given a life in the very same over when he was batting on 47 off 25 after being dropped at short third, and did not look back, reaching his fifty in 30 deliveries before shifting into attacking mode.
His next 50 runs came in only 15 deliveries, a period of play that saw him hit four boundaries and as many sixes, three of which came against his Pakistan national teammate Rauf.
Rauf was unable to nail the yorker in the third ball of the 19th over, which Iftikhar made full use of as he smashed it over long-on. He got a top-edge on the next delivery and it sailed over deep backward square and then completed a hat-trick of maximums by pulling a shorter ball in the exact area again.
Rauf conceded 24 runs in the penultimate over which spoiled his bowling figures. In the first three overs he bowled, Rauf gave just 18 runs and picked up the wicket of opener Anamul Haque and Ibrahim Zadran.
In the post-match presentation, Iftikhar expressed his emotions as he said, “It was my dream to get a hundred in T20s. The situation was ideal and I went for it.” The ‘Player of the match’ also talked about the rivalry with teammate Rauf. “There is no animosity. It was a true batting pitch and I took the attack to him,” the middle-order batter said.

JAMMU: Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana said the Congress has become the B-team of soft separatist, Kashmir centric and communal Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Delegation (PAGD) with Rahul Gandhi furthering its cause as a foot-soldier.
“The Congress does not seem to have learned any lesson from its repeated follies as the fourth generation Nehru-Gandhi scion is now hobnobbing with soft-separatists, known for their divisive, communal and separatist politics ,” Rana said while interacting with delegations that called on him here this afternoon.
He held the Congress responsible for decades long mess in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the party and its new found allies are destined to fail, as the BJP is committed to clear the mess and put Jammu and Kashmir on the path of political stability and prosperity.
Devender Rana said the beginning of undoing the wrongs commenced on August 5, 2019 when Parliament repealed the Article 370, granting special status to this part of the country, and making it integral with the nation emotionally and in totality. He said the onus now lies on the Congress to clear its stand on this historic milestone, especially in the wake of its alliance with the PAGD, which has made known its opposition to total integration of J&K with the Dominium of India.
Devender Rana said, as if the follies and erroneous political moves of Jawaharlal Nehru in respect of Jammu and Kashmir were not enough, Rahul Gandhi has embarked upon the ‘Mission Break India’ under the garb of “Bharat Jodo Yatra” , which is reflected by his controversial alliances with elements inimical to peace and tranquility. By joining hands with the PAGD, the Congress has allowed itself to get consumed by their politics of deceit and deception, he added.
“It is because of the policy paralysis and wrong decision from time to time that the Congress is on the verge of its extinction in the entire country,” Devender Rana said, adding that the plight of the so-called grand old party is that it is losing its ground in the length and breadth of the country.
Rana said the people of Jammu and Kashmir can see through the political opportunism of the trio—the Congress, the NC and the PDP, who are desperate to grab power by hook and crook. The trauma with the three parties is that they are no more relevant in the political arena of Jammu and Kashmir, given their trail of misgovernance and anti-people policies. On the contrary, the BJP has created a niche for itself due to path breaking initiatives taken for welfare of the people and progress of the both regions of Kashmir and Jammu. He said the Union Territory is close to the heart of the Prime Minister, who has a vision for Naya J&K, where opportunities of progress are available to all, irrespective of region or religion, and without any discrimination or appeasement.
Rana referred to the initiatives taken for holistic development being undertaken across Jammu and Kashmir with focus on investments for growth and job generation. He said the time is not far when the gains of investment will be discernible in terms of infrastructural development and avenues of jobs to professionals, educated unemployed besides skilled and unskilled workforce.
SRINAGAR: Social media influencers and celebrities will face a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh, which can go up to Rs 50 lakh on repeat offence and even lead to a ban of up to six years, on violation of guidelines for them, which were released by the consumer affairs ministry on Friday.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh told mediapersons, while releasing the guidelines, that the whole issue is centred around consumers’ right.
“It is the responsibility of the endorser, celebrities and influencers or other advertisers to truthfully disclose whatever information the consumer must know before making any decision for purchase,” the guidelines said.
Singh further said social media influencers should disclose the nature of their endorsements.
“Individuals or groups who have access to an audience and the power to affect their purchasing decisions about a product, brand or service because of the influencer’s authority, knowledge, position or relationship with their audience,” the guidelines said.
Influencers are defined as creators who advertise products with a strong influence on the decisions or opinions of their audience. Virtual influencers, which are defined as fictional computer-generated people with realistic features of humans, are also required to disclose their endorsements, the guidelines said further.
The department noted that, “When there is a material connection between an advertiser and celebrity/influencer that may affect the weight or credibility of the representation made by the celebrity/influencer.”
These material connections include monetary or other forms of compensation, free products, contests and sweepstakes entries, trips or hotel stays, media barters, coverage and awards, or any personal, family or employment relationship, the rules note.
The influencers should be able to substantiate the claims made by them. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 provides the framework for the protection of consumers against unfair trade practices and misleading advertisements.
The product and service must have been actually used or experienced by the endorser, the ministry said, adding that consumers can seek legal actions against those defaulting. (IANS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board here has launched a comprehensive exercise for valuation of its hundreds of commercial properties across the Union Territory.
“Continuing with its reformative agenda initiated under the leadership of Chairperson, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, J&K Waqf Board has started an exhaustive Valuation exercise of its hundreds of commercial assets spread across the UT of Jammu & Kashmir,” news agency KNO quoted a statement as having said.
Interestingly, despite being the second largest asset-rich organisation in the UT after the Govt itself, no significant efforts have been made till date for assessment of Commercial Properties by the previous authorities at the helm of affairs in Waqf over the last several decades, revealed the sources in Waqf, it said.
In an order issued by Executive Magistrate, Tehsildar J&K Waqf Board, it has been revealed that, in absence of proper valuation, “random assessment values have been used to insure commercial properties in the past and that has also created difficulties in settlement of claims with insurers”.
The move is also expected to “result in creation of a permanent data base for smooth rent assessment of structures in future”.
The Administrators and other Waqf Supervisory staff have been directed to facilitate and provide all necessary support & manpower for smooth conduct of the exercise, the order said.
