Rains Lash JK, Weather To Improve From May 9: MeT

SRINAGAR: Rains continued to lash Jammu and Kashmir even as the weather department forecast more precipitation in next 24 hours before “significant” improvement from May 9.
“Today is going to be rainy, cloudy and cold in J&K. A significant improvement is very likely from May 9,” a meteorological department official here told
He said while “mainly clear weather” was expected on May 9 but rain/thunderstorm in the late afternoon or evening can’t be ruled out at some places.”
From May 10-15, he said weather was expected to be “mainly dry” along with a rise in temperature, with warmer days ahead,he said.
The MeT department reiterated advisory to farmers to postpone spraying of orchards and harvesting of crops till May 8.
Tourists have been also advised to keep warm clothes and eatables ready as weather.
He said in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, Srinagar received 1.6mm of rainfall, Qazigund 49.8mm, Pahalgam 15.1mm, Kupwara 8.2mm, Kukernag 62.2mm, Gulmarg 10.8mm, Jammu 2.7mm, Banihal 40.2mm, Batote 20.3mmKatra 6.4mm, and Bhaderwah 9.0mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.7°C against 6.5°C on the previous night and it was 4.0°C above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.0°C against 5.2°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 5.2°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.6°C against 2.1°C on previous night and it was 2.9°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 2.2°C against 4.2°C on the previous night and it was 7.0°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.4°C against 0.4°C on previous night and it was 5.6°C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 5.2°C against 6.3°C as on the previous night and it was 4.1°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 16.3°C against 16.1°C on the previous night and it was 6.7°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal recorded a low of 5.7°C (below normal by 5.2°C), Batote 6.2°C (6.6°C below normal), Katra 12.8°C (6.9°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 6.4°C (below normal by 3.2°C). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 1.1°C, he added.

Amid Erratic Weather Forecast Till May 4, Temp Hovers Below Normal In JK

SRINAGAR: Amid forecast for erratic weather till May 4, the night temperatures continued to hover below normal in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 7.4°C against 6.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 7.2°C against 6.8°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 3.8°C against 4.2°C on previous night and it was 0.6°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 6.4°C against 5.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.7°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.5°C against minus 1.0°C on previous night and it was 4.7°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 6.4°C against 5.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 19.7°C against 19.4°C on the previous night. It was 2.2°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 7.6°C (2.1°C below normal), Batote 8.4°C (3.6°C below normal), Katra 14.8°C (4.1°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 6.4°C (2.5°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 4.4°C, the official said.

Regarding rainfall in last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. this morning, he said, Srinagar recorded 4.6mm, Qazigund 612.8mm, Pahalgam 12.9mm, Kupwara 0.8mm, Kokernag 8.2mm, Gulmarg 9.2mm, Banihal 10.2mm, Batote 0.6mm and Kathua 1.0mm.

About the forecast, he said, from April 29- May 2nd, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy. “Possibility of intermittent rain/thunderstorm at scattered places is expected towards late afternoon/evening (50% chance).”

From May 3-4, he said, there is possibility of widespread light to moderate rain and thunder in J&K. “Some places are likely to receive heavy rains,” he said.

Overall, he said, weather is very likely to remain erratic till May 4.

“Farmers are advised to postpone spraying of orchards till May 4,” he added. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Intermittent rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir since last afternoon, mostly during the night, while night temperature stayed below normal on Thursday, officials said. Also, “erratic weather” has been forecast in J&K till May 4.
Quoting a meteorological department official GNS reported that in last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. this morning, Srinagar recorded 39.7mm of rain, Qazigund 20.8mm, Pahalgam 19.3mm, Kupwara 21.0mm, Kokernag 31.6mm, Gulmarg 43.6mmJammu 3.8mm, Banihal 21.8mm, Batote 32.6mm, Katra 16.2mm, Bhaderwah 43.2mm and Kathua 3.8mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 7.0°C against 7.9°C on the previous night and it was 2.3°C below normal for the summer capital.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 7.2°C (2.5°C below normal), Batote 7.0°C (5.0°C below normal), Katra 14.5°C (4.4°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 6.8°C (2.3°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of 2.6°C and minus 3.5°C respectively, the official said.
The MeT department has predicted that weather was likely to remain “erratic” till May 4.
From April 27-28, the official said, intermittent rain, thunderstorm and snowfall (over higher reaches) was very likely at most places of J&K. However, he said, there is no forecast of major snowfall.
From April 29-3, he said, weather is likely to be partly to generally cloudy with possibility of intermittent rain, thunderstorm at scattered places.
“Overall, weather is very likely to remain erratic from April 27-May 4 in J&K,” he said. Also, the department has urged farmers to postpone spraying of orchards till May 4.

Rains Relent, Mercury Drops Below Normal In JK

SRINAGAR: Amid decrease in precipitation and forecast for scattered to fairly widespread light rain and thunderstorm in next 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded a drop in Jammu and Kashmir below normal on Friday.
A meteorological department official said that “mainly dry weather to isolated very light rain and thunderstorm” was expected during two subsequent days.
While there was improvement in rainfall activity, in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours this morning, Srinagar received 0.7mm of rain, Qazigund 14.6mm, Pahalgam 9.0mm, Kokernag 3.2mm, Gulmarg 8.6mm, Jammu 7.4mm, Banihal 5.0mm, Batote 6.2mm, Bhaderwah 8.4mm, Katra 13.0mm, and Kathua 1.6mm.

More Rains In JK During Next 24 Hours: MeT

SRINAGAR: Upper reaches including Gulmarg received fresh snowfall while intermittent rains lashed plains, bringing mercury down in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.
A meteorological department official said that in the last 24 hours till 8:30am this morning, Srinagar received 28.3mm of rain, Qazigund 68.0mm, Pahalgam 43.7mm, Kokernag 36.8mm, Gulmarg 40.4mm (also 1 cm of snow), Jammu 0.2mm, Banihal 41.1mm, Batote 46.8mm, Bhaderwah 20.0mm, Katra 1.8mm, and Kathua 4.0mm.
The MeT office has forecast “widespread light to moderate rain/thunderstorm/snow (over upper reaches) in Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours and “decrease in precipitation” during the subsequent two days.
Regarding temperature, the MeT official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 7.9°C against 10.3°C on the previous night and it was normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 7.2°C against 9.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.7°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.6°C against 5.4°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 6.2°C against 8.3°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C below normal for the place, the officials said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 8.5°C (above normal by 0.1°C), Batote 9.1°C (below normal by 2.3°C), Katra 16.2°C (0.9°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 8.9°C (1.7°C above normal). SRINAGAR: More rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir since overnight while night temperature stayed below normal at all places except Pahalgam and Bhaderwah on Thursday, officials said.
Quoting an official from meteorological department, GNS reported that in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, Srinagar received 3.4mm, Qazigund 9.9mm, Pahalgam 4.4mm, Kupwara 9.1mm, Kokernag 9.8mm, Gulmarg 10.8mm, Jammu 0.2mm, Baniha 5.4mm, Batote 2.0mm, Katra 4.0mm and Bhaderwah 1.1mm.
He said light rain with thunder at few places, mainly towards late afternoon/evening was expected during the next 24 hours.
From April 7-10, he said, mainly dry weather was expected and generally cloudy weather with light rain at isolated places towards late afternoon/evening has been forecast for April 11. Generally cloudy weather was expected from April 12-15, he said.
Regarding the temperature, the MeT official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 6.3°C against 2.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.0°C against 3.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.7°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

SRINAGAR: Generally cloudy weather with light rain has been forecast at isolated to scattered places in Kashmir Valley in next 24 hours.
Quoting a meteorological department official, GNS reported that generally cloudy weather is expected from March 21-22.
From March 23 to 25, he said, generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places was expected. From March 26 to 28, he said, partly cloudy weather was expected.

SRINAGAR: Upper reaches receive light snowfall with Gulmarg receiving 5-cm of it while rains lashed plains in Jammu and Kashmir. The weather department has forecast intermittent snowfall and rain during the next 24 hours in J&K.

SRINAGAR: The weather department on Tuesday forecast intermittent light to moderate snowfall and rain in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Intermittent light to moderate snowfall/rain (thunderstorm with rain in Jammu region) is expected at most places of JK with main activity on February 28th(evening)- March 1st,” a meteorological department official said
He said that dry weather is expected during 3rd to 7th March.”
He said that the weather system may affect surface transportation over major passes like Srinagar-Jammu highway, Sinthan Top, Sadna Top etc during March 1 and 2nd.
The temperatures have been remaining above normal. Srinagar recorded a low of 4.0°C against 4.2°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 2.5°C for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 1.8°C against 1.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
