Jamaat-e-Islami terror funding case: NIA carries out searches at 16 locations in J-K

    [ad_1]

Jammu: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 16 locations in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday as part of its crackdown on the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) in a terror funding case, an official said.

The searches were conducted at the premises of JeI members and supporters at 16 locations — 11 in Baramulla district of north Kashmir and five in Kishtwar district of Jammu region — a spokesperson of the federal agency said.

The official said several incriminating materials and digital devices were seized during the searches and were being examined for more clues in the case.

    MS Education Academy

“JeI has been found carrying out terror funding activities in Jammu and Kashmir, even after being declared an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on February 28, 2019,” the spokesperson said.

The NIA filed a charge sheet in a special court in New Delhi on May 12 last year against four accused after registering a suo motu case of terror funding against the outfit on February 5, 2021.

The spokesperson said previous investigations by the NIA had revealed that one of the four arrested accused, Javaid Ahmad Lone, had been soliciting funds and organising meetings in the name of JeI.

“He had been delivering hateful anti-India speeches and exhorting people to make donations at these meetings. Along with Aadil Ahmad Lone, he had acquired firearms and ammunition with ulterior motives from the other two accused, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar and Rameez Ahmad Kondu,” the spokesperson said.

In February 2019, the Centre had banned JeI for five years under anti-terror laws on grounds that it was “in close touch” with militant outfits and was expected to “escalate secessionist movement” in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Hundreds of JeI activists were arrested in a major crackdown across Jammu and Kashmir following the ban, which came just months ahead of the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile state and its bifurcation into Union territories in August 2019.

The spokesperson said the investigations so far have revealed that JeI (J&K) members had been collecting funds domestically and from abroad through donations, particularly in the form of zakat, mowda and bait-ul-mal, as well as for purported charitable purposes such as promotion of education and health.

“The funds were, instead, being used for violent and secessionist activities in J&K. They were also being channelled to proscribed terrorist organisations such as Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba and others through well-organised networks of JeI cadres,” the spokesperson said.

The NIIA said JeI was also engaged in motivating impressionable youths of Kashmir and recruiting new members for carrying out “violent, disruptive and secessionist activities”.

Big Ben lit up with Coronation emblem for King Charles III

    [ad_1]

London: The Elizabeth Tower, popularly known as Big Ben and one of London’s most iconic landmarks, will be lit up with special royal imagery every night this week in the lead-up to the Coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Saturday.

The colourful projection, inspired by the Coronation emblem of the national flowers of the UK, will take place every night from Thursday till Sunday.

The flowers will seem to grow around the clock tower in the colours of the Union Flag red, white and blue before the words of the country’s National Anthem God Save The King’ appear across the building.

    MS Education Academy

The projection culminates with the Coronation emblem, designed by Sir Jony Ive.

“The design was inspired by King Charles’ love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world. The emblem speaks to the happy optimism of spring and celebrates the beginning of this new Carolean era for the United Kingdom.

The gentle modesty of these natural forms combine to define an emblem that acknowledges both the joyful and profound importance of this occasion,” Ive said, explaining the design.

Big Ben refers to the Great Bell of one of the world’s most famous clocks within the Palace of Westminster. The clock tower was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the mother of King Charles III.

The Coronation emblem has been dubbed one of the central images for the long celebratory Coronation weekend in the UK.

It will feature throughout the Coronation celebrations in May, including the service at Westminster Abbey in London and the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle, as well as nationwide events, street parties and community gatherings.

The emblem is also being used for all official merchandise commemorating the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla and across digital and social media.

  • Will Lionel Messi leave PSG to move to Saudi club in Rs 3272 cr deal?

Will Lionel Messi leave PSG to move to Saudi club in Rs 3272 cr deal?

    [ad_1]

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is preparing to offer Argentina footballer Lionel Messi, the most lucrative salary deal of USD 400 million (Rs 32,72,18,00,000) annually to move to the Saudi Professional League this summer, the British Telegraph reported.

Discussions are ongoing to determine whether the player will leave PSG when his contract expires at the end of June.

If the deal gets materialized, this would be around twice what was offered to Messi’s rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, when he moved to Saudi club Al Nassr.

    MS Education Academy

Ronaldo penned a record 177 million pounds-a-year deal after Manchester United ripped up his contract.

According to the report by The Telegraph, Messi’s deal is being negotiated by his father Jorge. Messi has been associated with the Saudi club Al-Hilal several times over the past few months.

These reports come in light of the tense relationship between Messi and the management of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) club.

PSG suspended Messi on Tuesday, for two weeks after he travelled to Saudi Arabia without permission from the organization, according to CNN.

In 2022, Messi was appointed tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia and was in the Kingdom this week as part of that contract.

Recently, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, the Minister of Tourism for the country, tweeted updated photos of the Argentine.

“We welcome visitors from around the world to experience a unique journey to Saudi Arabia and its hospitality,” he tweeted.

Messi himself recently posted on social media about the country. He captioned an image of some trees, “Who would have thought Saudi Arabia had so much greenery? I love exploring its unexpected wonders whenever I can. #visitaudi.”

Excise policy case: Delhi HC adjourns hearing on Sisodia’s interim bail plea to May 10

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s interim bail plea in the 2021-22 excise policy case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to May 10.

Appearing for the probe agency, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V. Raju submitted before the bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma that “the change from 5 percent to 12 percent in the interest rate was made to get the kickback money. He (Sisodia) made the policy in such a way that guaranteed return in form of kickbacks came”.

“Sisodia concealed legal experts’ opinion given by eminent personalities as well. He hadn’t mentioned it anywhere. It was ignored completely. They (members of AAP) did not include it in the policy,” the ASG added.

    MS Education Academy

He also said that there was a draft note prepared by a person named Rahul Singh on the instance of Manish Sisodia, which can be proved from their WhatsApp chats.

“The original is missing. Only a part of the draft has been retrieved from the phones,” he said.

Taking note of the submission, the judge adjourned the matter for further submissions to May 10.

Notably, Sisodia had moved the high court on Wednesday seeking interim bail in the case on the ground of his wife’s illness.

Earlier on Thursday, the high court had sought the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) response on Sisodia’s bail plea in the same case.

Last week, Special Judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court had extended Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 12.

The court had also directed the CBI to supply an e-copy of the supplementary charge sheet to Sisodia.

Amit Shah trying to incite violence, charges Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

Raichur: Congress President Mallikarjun KhargeMallikarjun Kharge on Thursday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his statement that if Congress is voted to power in Karnataka, the state would be affected by riots.

“Amit Shah is delivering provocative speeches and trying to incite violence,” he said at a rally in Raichur.

“People of Karnataka are peace-loving and have faith in principles of Buddha and Basava. Amit Shah says there will be riots if Congress comes to power. Why? The Congress has ruled 60 to 70 years. Where have the riots happened? Amit Shah is now trying to provoke people.

    MS Education Academy

“There is a history of violence, rioting in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. But, people of Karnataka are peace loving,” he said.

“The CCTVs have to be fixed at hyper-sensitive booths. People will know who is trying to be violent,” Kharge said, adding that he will write a letter in this regard to the Election Commission..

Noting that the Election Commission has issued a notice to his son Priyank Kharge, he asserted that his son was “not a person to get scared. He is a courageous man. He is living for principles and ideology”. Priyank Kharge was issued notice for calling PM Narendra Modi as “nalayak beta”.

“If you get scared a little, BJP will scare you completely. BJP people will create violence intentionally. Look at how the Prime Minister is wandering all areas to defeat legislators. See and imagine how he had lost hope. In their regime, the poor are becoming poorer. Rich are getting richer. If this gap has to be removed, Congress will have to come to power,” Kharge maintained.

    [ad_1]

Four Palestinians, including one woman, were killed by the Israeli army on Thursday, during a raid in Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian News Agency.

The four martyrs are identified as— Hassan Qatnani, Moaz al-Masri,  Ibrahim Jabr and woman Iman Ziad Ahmed Odeh.

On Thursday morning, Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a brief statement, that three Palestinians were killed by the occupation bullets, two of whom had completely distorted their features, as a result of the intense shooting at them.

    MS Education Academy

The Israeli forces claimed that two of the three martyrs were responsible for carrying out a shooting attack, in which three Israeli women were killed in April 2023, in the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank.

Later on Thursday, Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of 26-year-old Palestinian woman Iman Ziad Ahmed Odeh, as a result of being shot in the chest on Thursday, by the Israeli forces in Hawara, south of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, claiming that she was attempting to carry out a stabbing attack.

Palestinian Red Crescent reported that four citizens in Nablus were injured by live bullets fired by the occupation forces, in addition to recording 152 cases of suffocation, including school students, as a result of the occupation forces firing tear gas canisters.

Israeli Army Radio reported that more than 200 Israeli soldiers participated in the military operation in Nablus on Thursday.

Palestinian News Agency quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the occupation forces targeted the besieged house with live bullets, fired a number of missiles at it, and prevented medical staff from reaching the besieged area.

With the rise of the four martyrs of Nablus on Thursday, the death toll since the beginning of this year rises to 108, including 20 children and two women.

The figure also includes the 44-year-old Palestinian prisoner Sheikh Khader Adnan, who died on Tuesday on the 87th day of a hunger strike to protest his repeated arbitrary detention.

The death of Adnan, who was arrested on March 5, 2023, pending military trial, sparked widespread anger and protests in the occupied West Bank, and led to rockets being fired at Israel by the armed resistance factions in the besieged Gaza Strip.
