Qatar World Cup final ball could be sold for Rs 2 cr in auction

    [ad_1]

Doha: The ball with which the Qatar 2022 World Cup final was played, between Argentina and France, is scheduled to be auctioned off in June.

It could be expected to be sold at 160,000-200,000 pounds (Rs 1,64,44,736-2,05,56,903).

The auction will be run by Graham Budd Auctions on June 6 and 7 online at Northampton in England.

    MS Education Academy

The match Ball contains written history of the World Cup Finals and more.

The match ball, named ‘Al Hilm’ (The Dream),  was won by a soccer fan after participating in a ‘Win The Match Ball’ competition conducted by the official soccer provider Soccer and Adidas.

The winner has now decided to auction off the memorabilia.

The auction house said, the mysterious owner of the ball did not believe that he had won the competition, and he thought it was a hoax, but later discovered that he owned the ball with which Kylian Mbappe scored three goals in the World Cup final, and the Argentine national team was crowned world champion with it at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.

In a press release, the head of sporting memorabilia at Graham Budd Auctions, David Convery said,

“This Adidas football is a fascinating and important piece of recent football history alongside what it did for the reputation of players like Messi and Mbappe.”

“The ball is fully authenticated, and we can trace every part of its journey to date. That’s one of the reasons why we feel confident it’ll reach, or even go beyond, its estimated price.”

It is noteworthy that the Argentine national team was crowned the 2022 World Cup champion in the State of Qatar, in December 2022, by defeating the French national team on penalty kicks.

Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup between November 20 and December 18, 2022, in the first edition of the tournament to be held in the Middle East.

  • Telangana: QR codes on autos to aid women in trouble in Rajanna Sircilla

Telangana: QR codes on autos to aid women in trouble in Rajanna Sircilla

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Rajanna-Sircilla police department has created a QR code in order to assist individuals, particularly women in trouble.

If an auto driver misbehaves with a woman or attempts to take her on a different route with malicious intent, the victim can quickly scan the code on her mobile phone, and the information will be transmitted to the police control centre.

The QR code contains all of the information about the autorickshaw, including the registration number, the name of the driver, and its position, allowing authorities to track it down and rescue the victim. The police agency has placed the QR code on around 3,000 autorickshaws throughout the area.

Within 24 hours of its launch, the code garnered an overwhelming response from the general public. In addition, to raise public knowledge of the QR code, the police department produced a short flim and distributed it via Twitter and WhatsApp groups of inhabitants in the district.

The short clip depicts how a police squad tracked an automobile and was quickly apprehended by local cops after receiving information via a QR code supplied by a woman in trouble.

The clip was released on Twitter by SP Akhil Mahajan, the man behind the idea. State IT, Industries, and MAUD minister KT Rama Rao praised the Sircilla police for taking the effort to ensure commuter safety.

The SP is also collecting recommendations from netizens to improve policing. Akhil Mahajan has urged people to download the Abhaya Android App in order to receive immediate assistance from police around the clock.

The SP stated the drivers of all public transport vehicles (autos and taxis) have generated digital copies of their documents, which have been uploaded to the QR code. In addition to the app, users are encouraged to file complaints with the police via phone calls or text messages in order to receive prompt assistance.

  • Tata Electronics to become a key Apple player after Wistron’s iPhone plant acquisition

Tata Electronics to become a key Apple player after Wistron’s iPhone plant acquisition

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: As Apple doubles down on local manufacturing in India, Taiwan-based iPhone manufacturer Wistron is reportedly winding up its operations in the country and Tata Electronics is set to take over Wistron’s Karnataka factory and manufacture new Apple products.

The move will only give a fillip to the government’s local manufacturing dream, at a time when iPhone exports from the country surged to cross $5 billion (over Rs 40,000 crore) in FY23.

Wistron’s factory in Karnataka, that employs about 12,000 people, constitutes a major chunk of its business in the country.

    MS Education Academy

According to a report in Hindu Business Line, Wistron will be winding down its operations and is “likely to approach the National Company Law Tribunal and the Registrar of Companies to dissolve its India operations within the next year.”

The 150-year-old Tata Group has taken several measures to step up its business with Apple in the recent past.

Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, told IANS that the ‘Make in India’ initiative is set to gain even more momentum with the emergence of homegrown majors, such as Tata Electronics, “and the possibility of concurrent production of the Apple iPhone 15 and beyond.”

“As we progress, these initial steps will undoubtedly bolster India’s semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen its position in the global electronics value chains,” Ram added.

According to the report, Wistron is also waiting for some subsidy payments under the smartphone production-linked (PLI) scheme, before it winds down its India operations.

In FY23, Apple shipped more than 7 million iPhones and half a million iPads in the country, registering a 28 percent growth for iPhone shipments, according to initial estimates provided by market intelligence firm CMR.

As Apple doubles down on domestic manufacturing in India, the tech giant is likely to garner 6 percent market share in FY23-34, with selling more than 8 million iPhones in the country in the period.

In such a scenario, Tata Group is hopeful of India becoming an electronics manufacturing hub after the conglomerate succeeded in its efforts to take over Wistron’s iPhone assembly plant, according to earlier reports.

  • Another US regional bank First Horizon’s stock tumbles after merger collapses

Another US regional bank First Horizon’s stock tumbles after merger collapses

    [ad_1]

New York: First Horizon and TD Bank have called off a $13 billion deal that would have formed Americas sixth-largest bank, adding to the turmoil sweeping the countrys regional lenders, a media report said.

Caught up in the worst banking crisis since 2008, First Horizon’s share price has plunged about 40 percent over the past couple months, falling well below the $25 per share that TD offered when the takeover was announced in February 2022, CNN reported.

The stock closed at $15.05 a share on Wednesday and plunged another 40 percent in morning trading on Thursday after the deal was mutually abandoned by the banks, the report said.

    MS Education Academy

First Horizon is a regional lender in the southeast United States and would have helped Canada’s TD expand south of the border. But regional banks have been losing the confidence of investors and customers since the March collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.

On Monday, a third regional bank, First Republic, failed and JPMorgan purchased most of its assets. A fourth, PacWest Bank confirmed earlier on Thursday that it’s looking for a financial lifeline.

First Horizon, though, said it remains stable, cash-rich and diversified.

“While today’s announcement is unfortunate and unexpected, First Horizon will continue on its growth path operating from a position of strength and stability,” First Horizon CEO Bryan Jordan said in a statement.

TD said in a statement that the companies called off the merger because of an unexpectedly long regulatory approval process. Without a timetable for approval, the companies began to question whether the deal would get regulators’ blessing at all. TD said the regulatory issue was for “reasons unrelated to First Horizon”.

Although TD didn’t directly cite the banking crisis or First Horizon’s crumbling market value as the reason for abandoning the purchase, its CEO Bharat Masrani said in a statement that the decision provided “clarity” to its customers and shareholders, CNN reported.

  • Bihar govt directs all DMs to implement Patna HC decision on caste-based survey

Bihar govt directs all DMs to implement Patna HC decision on caste-based survey

    [ad_1]

Patna: In wake of Patna High Court’s interim stay on the caste-based survey on Thursday, the Bihar government has asked District Magistrates of all 38 districts to stop the exercise with immediate effect.

The letter, issued by the office of Deputy Secretary, General Administration Department, Rajnish Kumar, directed the District Magistrates to follow the decision of the high court and direct officials and employees to take necessary steps and not release any data to anyone.

As per the order, the division bench of Chief Justice Vinod Chandran and Justice Madhuresh Kumar said: “We are of the considered opinion that the petitioners have made out a prima facie case against the continuation process of the proposed caste-based survey as attempted by the state of Bihar. There is a question raised on data integrity and security which has to be more elaborately addressed by the state.”

    MS Education Academy

“We also have the opinion that the state has no power to carry out caste-based surveys in a manner it is fashioned now. It would amount to a census thus impinging upon the legislative power of the Parliament,” the HC said.

“We also see the notification that the government intends to share data with the leaders of different political parties of the state assembly. The bigger question arises here is the right of privacy which the Supreme Court has held to be a facet of right to life.

“In such circumstances, we have directed the state government to immediately stop the caste-based survey and ensure that the data already collected are secured and not shared with anybody till final orders on this writ petition,” the bench said.

  • Bilawal Bhutto arrives in Goa; first Pak foreign min to visit India in 12 yrs

Bilawal Bhutto arrives in Goa; first Pak foreign min to visit India in 12 yrs

    [ad_1]

Benaulim: Pakistan’s foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari arrived in Goa on Thursday to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), becoming the first senior leader from the neighbouring country to visit India in almost 12 years.

Bhutto-Zardari’s visit to India to attend the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting comes amid continuing strain in ties between the two countries on a host of issues including Islamabad’s use of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pakistan foreign minister was received at the airport in Goa by JP Singh, the joint secretary heading the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division at the external affairs ministry.

    MS Education Academy

In 2011, Pakistan’s the then foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar visited India and held talks with her the then counterpart SM Krishna.

“I am very happy to reach Goa to lead the Pakistani delegation at the SCO Foreign Ministers meeting. I expect the SCO CFM meeting to be successful,” Bhutto-Zardari told reporters.

Though there was a buzz in the media about Bhutto-Zardari’s two-day visit to Goa, both the Indian and the Pakistani side appeared to keep each other at arm’s length.

People familiar with official engagements on the sidelines of the SCO conclave said there is no plan for a bilateral meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Bhutto-Zardari so far as there was no request for it from the Pakistani side.

In a tweet with a caption ‘Salaam, from Goa India’, Bhutto-Zardari said: “Assalamualaikum, we have reached Goa for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet.”

“I will first hold a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister. Then, will hold a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister. I will attend the dinner hosted for all the foreign ministers…,” he said in a short video.

Before leaving for Goa, the Pakistani foreign minister said, “My decision to attend this meeting illustrates Pakistan’s strong commitment to the charter of the SCO.”

“During my visit, which is focused exclusively on the SCO, I look forward to constructive discussions with my counterparts from friendly countries,” he said.

The Pakistan foreign minister’s visit to India is the first such trip from Islamabad since 2011 as Khar visited New Delhi that year. She is currently serving as the minister of state for foreign affairs.

In May 2014, former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited India to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

In December 2015, former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited Pakistan, and days later Modi made a brief visit to that country.

The invitation to the Pakistan foreign minister to attend the SCO meeting was sent in January, days after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered to hold bilateral talks between India and Pakistan.

In an interview with UAE-based Al Arabiya news channel, Sharif had said Pakistan has learnt its lesson after three wars with India and now it wants to live in peace with India, if “we are able to resolve our genuine problems.”

However, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office later said negotiations are not possible without India revoking its 2019 actions on Kashmir.

India has been maintaining that it desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan while insisting that the onus is on Islamabad to create an environment free of terror and hostility for such an engagement.

The ties between India and Pakistan came under severe strain after India’s warplanes pounded a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Balakot in Pakistan in February 2019 in response to the Pulwama terror attack.

The relations further deteriorated after India in August 2019 announced the withdrawal of special powers of Jammu and Kashmir and the bifurcation of the state into two union territories.

In a related development, Pakistan PM Sharif said his country’s decision to attend the SCO foreign meeting in India reflects its “commitment” to the SCO Charter and multilateralism as he asserted that his country was committed to playing its part to advance its shared values of peace and stability in the region.

“We are committed to playing our part to advance our shared values of peace and stability in the region. We are all for win-win understandings based on connectivity, trade and mutually advantageous cooperation,” he further said.

Morbi bridge collapse: Gujarat HC grants bail to three security guards

    [ad_1]

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Thursday granted bail to the three security guards who were deployed on the suspension bridge in Morbi town when it collapsed on October 30 last year claiming more than a hundred lives.

While granting relief to them, Justice Samir Dave took into account their lawyer’s submission that they were merely doing their job and played no role in the decision-making process that led to the tragedy.

As many as 135 persons were killed and 56 grievously injured when the British-era bridge, maintained and operated by Oreva Group, collapsed days after it had been reopened following repairs.

    MS Education Academy

After a short hearing, the HC granted bail to Alpesh Gohil (25), Dilip Gohil (33) and Mukesh Chauhan (26), all residents of Tunki Vaju village in Garbada taluka of Dahod district.

They were among the ten accused arrested by police in the case. It was alleged that besides faulty repairing, failure to manage the footfall on the bridge led to its collapse.

The accused trio’s lawyer Ekant Ahuja said they had actually been hired as labourers by Oreva Group, but were deployed as security guards on the bridge on the fateful day as it was their weekly off.

Public prosecutor Mitesh Amin did not oppose the bail pleas, stating that the “principal liability lies on the owners of Oreva Group and persons who performed the fabrication job (on the bridge)”.

Justice Dave said he was allowing the bail pleas as the applicants were security personnel hired by the company.

Those who are still behind bars include Jaysukh Patel, managing director of the Oreva Group; managers of the firm Dipak Parekh and Dinesh Dave; ticket-booking clerks Mansukh Topiya and Mahadev Solanki, and sub-contractors Prakash Parmar and Devang Parmar who had been hired by Oreva Group for repair works on the bridge.

Morbi police had in January filed a charge sheet in the case.

All ten accused have been charged under Indian Penal Code section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) besides other offences.
