Iran Prez says Syria visit marks turning point in bilateral ties

    [ad_1]

Tehran: Ebrahim Raisi, who became the first Iranian President to visit Damascus after the Syrian war erupted in 2011, said on Friday that the landmark two-day trip was a “turning point” in improving bilateral political, economic, trade and security ties.

Raisi told reporters here following his arrival from Syria that the trip was of great importance for both sides and the region after 12 years of resistance by the Syrian people and government against enemies’ conspiracies and seditious acts, Xinhua news agency reported citing local media.

He noted that Iran appreciates Syria’s resistance against the “tough attacks,” and Tehran’s support in the process made Syria and the region believe that Iran is a “strong pillar” they can trust and rely on.

The two sides are capable of enhancing cooperation regarding economic and trade relations, said the President, noting that they have signed 15 documents on cooperation in the fields of producing and distributing energy, establishing joint banks and insurance companies, reducing trade tariffs, enhancing transit among Iran, Iraq and Syria and reviving Syria’s agricultural, industrial and energy sectors.

Raisi had reached Damascus on Wednesday for extensive political and economic talks with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, with a high-level political and economic delegation.

  • UN calls for closing funding gap to salvage decaying oil tanker off Yemen

UN calls for closing funding gap to salvage decaying oil tanker off Yemen

    [ad_1]

United Nations: There is a “crucial need” for additional money to close the funding gap to salvage the decaying Safer oil tanker off Yemen’s Red Sea coast, a UN spokesman said.

A pledging event hosted by the UK and the Netherlands for the UN-led Safer project raised $5.6 million in new funding, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, told reporters.

The UN calls on the international community to help close the funding gap, which still stands at $23.8 million for the emergency phase, he said.

    MS Education Academy

The Safer tanker, a 47-year-old vessel that has moored off Yemen and has not been maintained since 2015 because of the conflict, has decayed to the point where there is an imminent risk it could explode or break apart, which would have disastrous environmental effects on the region, reports Xinhua news agency.

As part of an emergency operation, the UN Development Programme purchased from Belgian shipping company Euronav in March the vessel “Nautica” to remove over a million barrels of oil from the decaying Safer tanker.

The vessel is expected to arrive in Yemen in early May.

According to Haq, an additional $19 million is also required for the critical second phase of the UN-coordinated operation to avert a catastrophic oil spill in the Red Sea.

“It is urgent that this gap is closed to successfully implement the operation,” Haq said.

“While we appreciate the contributions received so far, there is a crucial need for the funds to allow us to complete the task that we have begun,” he added.

Passwords can soon be replaced, Learn all about PassKeys here

    [ad_1]

Passkeys are a new way to authenticate without having to remember and manage passwords. With a passkey, users can sign in to apps and websites using a biometric sensor (such as a fingerprint or facial recognition), PIN, or pattern. This technology replaces legacy authentication methods like passwords and provides robust protection against phishing attacks.

A passkey is a digital credential tied to a user account and a website or application. Here’s how to create and use a passkey:

Register with the website or application using an existing sign-in method.

    1. Click the “Create a Passkey” button.

    2. Check the information stored with the new passkey.

    3. Use the device screen unlock (biometric sensor, PIN, or pattern) to create the passkey.

    image 13 11

When returning to the website or application to sign in, follow these steps:

    1. Go to the website or application.

    2. Click “Sign In”.

    3. Select the passkey option.

    4. Use the device screen unlock (biometric sensor, PIN, or pattern) to complete the login.

The user’s device generates a signature based on the passkey, which is used to verify the login credential between the origin and the passkey.

Passkeys can be used on any device, regardless of where they’re stored. As they’re built on FIDO standards, all browsers can adopt them. Passkey managers protect passkeys from unauthorized access and use, and passkeys themselves don’t allow tracking users or devices between sites.

Biometric information is never revealed to the website or application, making passkeys a safe and secure way to authenticate.

Public key cryptography is used to generate a public-private key pair on the user’s device, making it safe from potential data breaches.

Egypt calls for immediate truce between Sudan’s military rivals

    [ad_1]

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has made separate phone calls with the leaders of Sudan’s warring parties, calling for an immediate cease-fire to end the bloodshed.

Shoukry on Thursday expressed “Egypt’s deep concern” over the ongoing military confrontations in Sudan, which undermines the country’s security and stability, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.

He called on Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to immediately cease fire to protect the resources of the Sudanese people and prioritise Sudan’s higher interest.

The clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which broke out on April 15, have continued despite several previous truces. So far, the conflict has left more than 550 people dead and 4,926 others wounded in Sudan.

  • Viveka murder case: Prime accused surrenders in CBI court

Viveka murder case: Prime accused surrenders in CBI court

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Yerra Gangi Reddy, the prime accused in former Andhra Pradesh minister Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case, surrendered in CBI court on Friday on the direction of the Telangana High Court.

The CBI court remanded him to judicial custody till June 2. He will be shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

On April 27, the High Court had cancelled the bail of Gangi Reddy and directed him to surrender before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court by May 5.

    MS Education Academy

The High Court ruled that as the CBI is scheduled to complete the hearing on June 30, Gangi Reddy may be granted bail on July 1 on a personal bond of Rs 1.50 lakh.

Recently, the Supreme Court extended the deadline for completing the investigation into the sensational case till June 30.

The CBI sought the cancellation of the bail on the ground that Gangi Reddy is the main accused and has been influencing key witnesses in the case.

Gangi Reddy is having political backing and is trying to put pressure on the witnesses through his connections, the CBI counsel had argued.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Andhra Pradesh police, which was then investigating the murder case, arrested Gangi Reddy on March 28, 2019.

Reddy was granted default bail by a local court at Pulivendula on June 27, 2019 as the SIT had failed to file chargesheet in the specified period. After the CBI took over the investigation and filed the chargesheet, it had approached the court to cancel his bail. The court had dismissed the CBI petition.

Later, the Andhra Pradesh High Court also upheld the decision of the lower court.

Subsequently, the CBI had approached the Supreme Court, challenging the order of the High Court.

The Supreme Court in November last year transferred the trial in the murder case from Andhra Pradesh to CBI court in Hyderabad. Consequent to this, the apex court asked the CBI to approach the Telangana High Court for cancellation of bail of Gangi Reddy.

Vivekananda Reddy, brother of former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of present Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was murdered at his residence in Pulivendula of Kadapa district on March 15, 2019, weeks before elections.

The 68-year-old former state minister and former MP was alone at his house when unidentified persons barged in and killed him.

The CBI took over the investigation into the case in 2020 on the direction of Andhra Pradesh High Court while hearing a petition of Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Suneetha Reddy, who raised suspicion about some relatives.

The Supreme Court transferred the case to Hyderabad while observing that doubts raised by Suneetha Reddy about getting a fair trial and investigation in Andhra Pradesh were reasonable.

Hyderabad: Bajrang dal, BJP activists recite Hanuman Chalisa at Cong office; detained

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) activists who were a part of Bajrang Dal gathered outside the Congress party office in the city on Friday and recited Hanuman Chalisa following which they were detained by the cops.

The crowd were protesting against the Congress’s manifesto mentioning the ban on Bajrang Dal, while they cried out the description, calling themselves devotees of lord Ram and Hanuman.

Shouting out loud, the activists lay on the road while police tried to stop them. The cops faced a tough time as they had to drag the activists into a DCM truck as they refused to move from their place.

    MS Education Academy

Additionally, lady constables also interfered to move the female activists who were among the protestors while their companions cried out, ‘Ram ki jai’.

    Congress members respond

Countering the BJP members and the Bajrang dal, the Telangana Congress Women wing members on Friday said that even they are devotees of lord Ram, asserting that Hanuman Chalisa can be recited by anyone and it doesn’t have to do anything with a particular party.

Stating that there is no significance in linking the Hanuman Chalisa, (one of the popular Hindu devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Hanuman) with the ban, one of the members of the Telangana Congress women’s wing read out the entire Chalisa while her fellow mates accompanied her.

Bajrang Dal announced a nationwide protest

The Karnataka Congress unit in its manifesto stated that it would ban the Bajrang Dal and compared the group to the PFI. The PFI was recently banned by the Union government for its alleged anti-national activities.

The Bajrang Dal announced a nationwide protest and protests are held across the country for the past couple of days.

On Wednesday, the Telangana Bajrang Dal activists held protests in all districts and the city. The Bajrang Dal workers stormed the Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday.

The police took over 300 of the activists into custody and shifted them to various police stations. All of them were let off later.

Following the developments, the police pickets continued at the Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday as well.
