Telangana: 45-yr-old strangled to death, face smashed near Warangal

Hyderabad: A 45-year-old daily wage earner was brutally killed on Saturday night at a village near the Warangal-Khammam highway.
However, her body was discovered by passersby on Sunday morning following which police were informed about the murder.
Jarupula Shouri, the victim is a daily wage laborer from Jaggu Naik Thanda situated on the outskirts of Nallabelly village, and used live to live with her son.

According to the police, the victim’s face was unrecognizable as it was smashed with boulders.
Police further assumed that the murderers may have strangulated her to death using a scarf while they initiated a probe after her son lodged a complaint.
The victim’s body was shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal for an autopsy.

Video: IAF fighter aircraft crashes into home in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Two civilians were killed after an Indian Air Force MiG-21 crashed on top of their house in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh on Monday morning, police said.
The pilot of the aircraft, however, ejected safely with minor injuries, the IAF said adding a military helicopter has reached the accident site for rescue operations.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Hanumangarh, Sudheer Chaudhary, the mishap took place in Bahlolnagar.

The police official said that the civilians-two women were killed and one man sustained injuries as the MiG crashed on top of their house.

The crashed aircraft had taken off from Suratgarh for a routine training sortie.
The Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The MiG-21 fleet is on its last leg and all the remaining three aircraft from the fleet are planned to be poached out by 2025.
Earlier in January, one pilot lost his life after two IAF fighter jets – a Sukhoi-30 and a Mirage 2000 – crashed during a training exercise.

While one aircraft crashed in Morena in Madhya Pradesh, the other crashed and landed in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur.

‘Jawan’ fame director Atlee confirms name of his baby boy after SRK revealed on Twitter

Mumbai: ‘Jawan’ director Atlee who was blessed with a baby boy this year, on Sunday, finally revealed the name, a day after SRK shared that he met the little munchkin.
Taking to Instagram, Atlee dropped a picture with his wife Priya and baby boy from their visit to the temple.
Sharing the picture, he wrote, “Yes the name is MEER. Very happy to be revealing our little angels name.”

As soon as the name was revealed, the director’s fans and industry friends chimed in the comment section.
Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu wrote, “Congratulations darlings.”
Kajal Aggarwal commented, “Lots of love to all three of you!!! Big hugs to baby Meer.”
On Saturday, during the #AskSRK session on Twitter, when one of the fans asked about a specialty of Atlee that he enjoyed the most, the King Khan responded, “”@Atlee_dir is very dedicated and smart. Also now he has such a lovely baby Meer and Priya feeds me very good food. #Jawan.”
After being in a relationship for years, Atlee and Priya tied the knot in 2014. And the duo welcomed their baby boy on January 31, 2013.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Atlee shared a couple of pictures and announced ‘it’s a boy’. He wrote in the caption, “They were right. There’s no feeling in the world like this. And just like that our baby boy is here! A new exciting adventure of parenthood starts today! Grateful. Happy. Blessed.”
South director Atlee is known for films like ‘Raja Rani’, ‘Their’, ‘Mersal’, ‘Bigil’.
‘Jawan’ has put the spotlight on him as Shah Rukh will be acting in the movie.
The film was earlier slated to hit the theatres on June 2 this year but the makers have now decided to shift the official release date.
The actual reason for the postponement of the film is still not known.
The film is billed as an event film with high-octane action sequences. Shah Rukh’s production company Red Chillies Entertainment has produced it.
In June 2022, SRK unveiled the film’s teaser which opened with a glimpse of the Northern Lights over mountain tops. We saw Shah Rukh with his face in the dark, wrapping bandages on his face as the film’s theme music played in the background.
The film also stars South actors Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles.
The actor also hosted an ‘Ask SRK’ session on Twitter after announcing the release date of ‘Jawan’ on Saturday. From Abram’s reaction to the poster of ‘Jawan’ to fans’ request to release the movie at the earliest…SRK answered all in his inimitable style.

Rains Lash JK, Weather To Improve From May 9: MeT

SRINAGAR: Rains continued to lash Jammu and Kashmir even as the weather department forecast more precipitation in next 24 hours before “significant” improvement from May 9.
“Today is going to be rainy, cloudy and cold in J&K. A significant improvement is very likely from May 9,” a meteorological department official here told
He said while “mainly clear weather” was expected on May 9 but rain/thunderstorm in the late afternoon or evening can’t be ruled out at some places.”
From May 10-15, he said weather was expected to be “mainly dry” along with a rise in temperature, with warmer days ahead,he said.
The MeT department reiterated advisory to farmers to postpone spraying of orchards and harvesting of crops till May 8.
Tourists have been also advised to keep warm clothes and eatables ready as weather.
He said in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, Srinagar received 1.6mm of rainfall, Qazigund 49.8mm, Pahalgam 15.1mm, Kupwara 8.2mm, Kukernag 62.2mm, Gulmarg 10.8mm, Jammu 2.7mm, Banihal 40.2mm, Batote 20.3mmKatra 6.4mm, and Bhaderwah 9.0mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.7°C against 6.5°C on the previous night and it was 4.0°C above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.0°C against 5.2°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 5.2°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.6°C against 2.1°C on previous night and it was 2.9°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 2.2°C against 4.2°C on the previous night and it was 7.0°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.4°C against 0.4°C on previous night and it was 5.6°C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 5.2°C against 6.3°C as on the previous night and it was 4.1°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 16.3°C against 16.1°C on the previous night and it was 6.7°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal recorded a low of 5.7°C (below normal by 5.2°C), Batote 6.2°C (6.6°C below normal), Katra 12.8°C (6.9°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 6.4°C (below normal by 3.2°C). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 1.1°C, he added.

Hyderabad girl among nine killed in Texas mall shooting

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old girl from Hyderabad, identified as Aishwarya, lost her life along with eight other people in the Texas mall shooting that took place on May 6, 2023.
She was the daughter of Additional District Judge Tatikonda Narsireddy, who is currently working at the Ranga Reddy District Commercial Courts complex. The incident occurred when Aishwarya was shopping with her friends at the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Texas.

In the shooting, the gunman opened fire at the crowded mall, killing at least eight people before being shot dead by a police officer. The shooting started around 3:30 pm on Saturday, causing shoppers to panic and flee the area. Videos captured shoppers exiting the mall as employees scrambled into storage areas to hide when they heard gunshots.

Witnesses reported some people sheltered in place for up to two hours while law enforcement cleared the sprawling complex.
Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting an “unspeakable tragedy” and stated that the state was ready to offer any assistance to local authorities.
The White House announced that President Biden had been briefed on the shooting and offered support to local officials.
Mass shootings in the US
This tragic incident is not an isolated case in the United States, as there have been at least 198 mass shootings in 2023, according to the gun violence archive. It is a growing concern that requires immediate action to be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
The loss of Aishwarya and the other victims of the Texas mall shooting is a significant tragedy.

Hyderabad: 60 cops felicitated for improving fitness with ‘Fitcop’

Hyderabad: Efforts of 60 policemen who showed improvement in their health standards since the initiation of Fitcop, were recognized by City Police Commissioner CV Anand on Sunday.
As many as 16,000 policemen were screened a few weeks back after the Hyderabad police in association with Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) launched Fitcop, a mobile application a few months ago.

Those cops that fell into the high-risk category were periodically evaluated following which it was found that 60 of them were making sincere efforts to transform themselves.

Speaking on the occasion, C V Anand, stressed the importance of nutritious diet intake and explained the benefits of weight training, and stretching.
While sharing tips on striking a correct balance between maintaining muscle and shedding excess weight, the commissioner asked the staff officers to replicate the health culture within their families as well.
The commissioner further suggested the policemen patrol on foot whenever they could for better public engagement, which in turn would facilitate burning calories while they work.
Additionally, he instructed the HHF team to follow up with the high-risk category candidates on a daily basis

Another blast at Heritage Street near Amritsar’s Golden Temple

Amritsar: One person was injured in a blast on Monday morning at Heritage Street near the Golden Temple in Punjab’s Amritsar, the very site where an explosion took place on May 6, police said today.
The cause of the explosion, however, is yet to be ascertained and police said they are “verifying” the cause of the incident.
“We are verifying. The situation is normal here. Anti-sabotage, Bomb Squad, and FSL teams are here,” Amritsar Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mehtab Singh told ANI.

He further said that one person has received a minor injury in the leg and the glass facades of some nearby buildings were damaged in the blast.
“After the clarification, we can tell how it happened. The investigation is going on by our teams,” he added.
A sweeper who was present on the spot during the incident said, “I am a sweeper here and was doing my duty when I heard a big blast sound and saw heavy smoke,” he said.
On May 6, Saturday night around 11:15 pm there was an explosion at the same Heritage Street near the Golden Temple, police said in which one person was injured.
Amritsar ADCP Mehtab Singh said that both Saturday’s blast and the one today was of a low intensity. (

Karnataka polls: ECI issues advisory to parties on print advertisements

New Delhi: In view of complaints regarding “unverified” claims in political advertisements, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked all political parties and candidates to get “clearance” from the media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) before publishing any advertisement in the print media on the date of polling and a day prior.
“No political party or candidate or any other organization or person shall publish any advertisement in the print media on poll day and one day prior to poll day unless the contents of political advertisement are got pre-certified by them from the MCMC committee at the State/District level, as the case may be,” a letter to the political parties dated May 7 said.
ECI on Sunday also held all major local newspapers in the state responsible for all matters including advertisements published in their newspapers.

Citing the Press Council of India’s norms for journalistic conduct, the ECI, in a letter said, “An editor shall be responsible for all matters, including advertisements, published in the newspaper. If responsibility is disclaimed, this shall be explicitly stated beforehand.”
It said to the political parties that instances of advertisements of an offending and misleading nature published in print media have been brought to the notice of the commission in the past.
“Such advertisements in the last stage of the election vitiate the entire election process,” ECI said.
In the advisory to the parties, the poll body also stressed on “clean and serious” campaign which is set to end on Monday for the Karnataka assembly elections.
The 224-seat Karnataka assembly will go to polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
