    All offline services to end from today Commencement of Digital era in J&K

    Jammu, Jan 16: In an important decision, J&K has decided to go fully digital from today. This was decided by the Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta in a meeting of Committee of Secretaries (CoS) today attended by all the Administrative Secretaries.

    Dr Mehta directed Commissioner Secretary, IT to ensure that all government services are only made available through online mode from today. He reiterated that no service shall remain offline and applicants need not to visit any of the government offices for availing any services.The Chief Secretary enjoined upon all the Secretaries to monitor that the services are being delivered online in a hassle free manner.

    The Chief Secretary also advised them to constitute control rooms in Administrative departments as well as at HoD level and in the offices of Deputy Commissioners for providing support to public. He asked them to run campaigns so that ample awareness is created among masses. He told them to conduct awareness programmes in educational institutions and at the Panchayat level.He stressed upon all the officers to take note of all the services provided by their respective departments and implement these orders.The Chief Secretary was informed that over 400 services have already been offered in online mode across all the departments and many of them are integrated with the quality check and feedback seeking mechanism of RAS. It was also revealed these services are also being on boarded on the digital portal of e-UNNAT, Service Plus and Digi Locker for the ease and free access of general public.(GNS)

    Police chargesheet file against 2 LeT militant associates in Rajouri

    Srinagar, Jan 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Police filed a chargesheet against two LeT militant associates in Rajouri in a case related to grenade throwing.

    According to a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the chargesheet was filed in case FIR No. 542/2021 U/S 307/120-B/121/122 IPC, 3/4 Explosive Act, 13-ULA (P) before the court of 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu against 02 accused namely Altaf Hussain Shah and Mohd Qasim, who is absconding.The statement reads the accused person had thrown a grenade in the house of one Romesh Singh and due to explosion one child aged namely Veer Singh died and several others sustained serious injuries.“The accused were associated with LeT and the investigation exposed the network in J&K and PoK. The charge sheet was filed by today,” it reads—(KNO)

    Govt orders comprehensive audit of MGNREGA works after preliminary inquiry alleges misappropriation of Rs 8 crore

    Srinagar, Jan 16: Days after a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Rural Development Department found that funds worth Rs eight crore have been misappropriated in works executed under the MGNREGA scheme in Jammu, the J&K government has ordered a comprehensive audit of all the identified works in the report.

    According to an order, a copy of which is in possession of the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Rural Development Department has directed Director,Social Audit, MGNREGA to depute a team of two district resource persons (DRPs) along with some experienced village resource persons (VRPs) to undertake a comprehensive audit of all the works identified in the report by Assistant Commissioner Development, Jammu and submit a detailed report to the commissioner secretary, RDD within 10 days.The Director, Social Audit has also been asked to fix the responsibility of the concerned officers.The Block Development Officer Mathwar/Balwal has been directed to provide all relevant record(s) of the case to the committee, failing which immediate disciplinary action shall be taken against him by ACD Jammu.The move comes after a preliminary inquiry by ACD Jammu reported alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 8,62,40,000 in MGNREGA works executed in blocks Bhalwal/ Mathwar in Jammu district—(KNO)

    Srinagar, Jan 16: The vehicular traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National highway on Monday came to a sudden halt due to shooting stones at Panthial in Ramsu area.

    An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KMO) an open steel cover bridge on the highway at Panthial has been damaged due to shooting stones.He said following the shooting stones and damage to the bridge traffic movement has been halted on the highway.“The bridge will be repaired once shooting stones stop and thereafter traffic would be resumed,” he said—(KNO)

BCCI has invited some unnamed reputed entities to bid for the women’s IPL teams.

     

    However, amidst the auction process, a male cricketer has put BCCI in a conundrum as the male cricketer registered himself for women IPL as a women player after identifying himself/herself as a woman.

     

    Reportedly, the male cricketer has updated all his social media accounts with pronouns She/Her. BCCI has not revealed the name of the male cricketer but has hinted that the players has remain unsold in last two IPLs and hence has decided to get sold in women’s IPL.

    Srinagar, Jan 16: The minimum temperatures recorded a plunge in Kashmir Valley with Gulmarg recording season’s coldest night at minus 12.0°C on Monday.

    meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.9°C against last night’s minus 0.6°C. Today’s minimum temperature was 0.2°C above normal for the summer capital, he said.Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of minus 5.6°C against minus 0.7°C on the previous night and it was 2.3°C below normal for the gateway town.Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 10.2°C against minus 10.9°C on the previous night which was the coldest night recorded this season in the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Today’s minimum temperature was 3.0°C below normal for the place, he said.Kokernag recorded a low of minus 6.6°C against minus 1.4°C on the previous night, he said. Besides being 2.7°C below normal for the place, the temperature was the lowest recorded this season there.Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 12.0°C against minus 10.4°C on the previous night. While the mercury was 4.3°C below normal, it was the coldest night so far recorded in the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the official said.In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at minus 2.9°C against minus 1.3°C on the previous night and it was 0.2°C above normal in the north Kashmir area, he said.

    Jammu recorded a low of 4.1°C against 4.6°C on the previous night. It was 3.0°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

    Banihal recorded a low of minus 1.5°C (below normal by 1.3°C), Batote minus 1.4°C (below normal by 3.2°C), Katra 4.5°C (1.7°C below normal) and Bhadarwah minus 1.0°C (0.1°C below normal).Ladakh, Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 14.4°C and minus 21.2°C respectively, the official said.He said till January 18, weather is likely to be mainly dry and partly cloudy. There is also a possibility of fog in plains of Jammu & Kashmir during morning hours.“From January 19-21st, weather is likely to be cloudy with chances of light rain/snow over isolated to scattered places mainly over higher reaches,” he said, adding, “From 22nd to 24th, there is possibility of light to moderate rain and snow over plains and moderate snow over middle and higher reaches most likely during 23rd/24th January at most places of J&K.”Kashmir is under the grip of Chillai-Kalan, the 40-day long harsh winter period that started on December 21. It does not mean an end to the winter either. It is followed by a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ that occurs between January 30 and February 19 and a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which is from February 20 to March 1.     Budgam, Jan 16: A passenger bus belonging to Road Transport Corporation, erstwhile known as SRTC was completely damaged in a fire incident on Monday morning in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

    The incident occurred near Shunglipora bus station of the district at 7 in the morning.Divulging information about the incident, the driver of the bus (JK01Y-0848), Muhammad Younis told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that they had parked the bus at Shunglipora bus station and on Monday morning they arrived there when started the bus and kept it on starting mode for a couple of minutes, there was a short circuit and within a jiffy, the bus was in flames.

    He said the bus caught fire and was damaged quickly as it is made up of fiber.

    Locals helped to douse the fire. The fire tender from Magam reached when the fire was over,” he added.Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT]

    3 cops suspended after man dies in Rajouri village

    Three cops have been suspended in Rajouri district after mysterious death of a man in Dagal village of the district on Saturday evening even as locals alleged the man died due to carelessness of the cops.

    Senior superintendent of police Rajouri, Mohammad Aslam told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three police personnel deployed at police Naka Bakhar have been suspended for carelessness and not taking the man to hospital.He said they have started investigation into the matter and inquest proceedings under CrPC 174 have been initiated.

    On Saturday evening, villagers of Dagal and nearby areas of Rajouri district held a protest demonstration the death of the man identified as Sher Singh (23) son of Chatar Singh.They said the deceased used to work in Sunderbani as a labourer and was returning for home to take part in Lohri festival but he went missing on the way.“On Friday we came to know that he was lying in inebriated condition at Siot after which team of police from Bakhar police post took him along but he died later,” they alleged.The protestors alleged that the man has died due to the carelessness of the cops and blocked the road, demanding a proper investigation into the matter.Later, additional deputy commissioner Kalakote, Krishan Lal and SDPO Nowshera Tusif Ahmed reached to the spot and assured protestors that the matter will be probed—(KNO)
