    SRINAGAR: The National Council of Educational Research and Training is inviting applications for the post of Junior Project Fellow.

    There are a total of 11 vacancies for the given post. The appointment is up to March 31, 2024

    The candidates will be selected based on the interview that will be held at Janaki Ammal Khand, DSEM, NCERT, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi. Eligible candidates should appear for walk-in-interview along with their relevant documents.

    For the application process, the maximum age limit is 40 years and the relaxation for the ST/SC is by 5 years and for OBC by 3 years.

    The qualification required for the recruitment includes:

    1. Project Name: Identification of Indian Knowledge Systems in Literature for Inclusion in Science and Mathematics and Development of Learning Outcomes-Based Activities in Biology and Chemistry.

    Physics and Mathematics at Secondary Level, master’s degree in Physics or any related discipline with a minimum 55 percent marks, degree /diploma in Education, knowledge of Computer Applications, knowledge of Sanskrit, National Eligibility Test (NET), at least six months Research experience in a related area.

    1. Project Name: Development of Learning Outcomes based activities in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and Development of Audio- Video Resource in Chemistry;

    Master’s degree in Chemistry or any related discipline with a minimum of 55 percent marks, degree /diploma in Education, knowledge of Computer Applications, National Eligibility Test (NET), and at least six months of Research experience in a related area.

    1. Project Name: Centre for the Popularization of Science

    Master’s degree in Botany/Agriculture Botany, Biotechnology Life Sciences/Environmental Science or any related disciplines with a minimum 55 percent of marks, degree /diploma in Education, knowledge of Computer Applications, National Eligibility Test (NET), at least six months Research experience in a related area.

    The applicable candidates will be given a monthly salary of up to Rs. 25000. The salary for Non-NET applicable candidates will be Rs. 23000 per month.

  • 3.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: A 3.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Kashmir valley on Monday with panicked residents running out of their homes at some places.

    According to National Center for Seismology, the epicenter was in Baramulla district and the quake took place at a depth of 10 km.

    It said the earthquake occurred at 02:28 pm Indian standard time.

    Experts have warned of a major earthquake in the region as J&K falls in the seismic Zone IV and V.

  • One Dead, Two Injured In Road Accident In North Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: A man died while two others were injured after a car they were traveling in met with an accident in Nechiyan Top in Karnah sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that the trio was traveling in an Alto vehicle this afternoon when the accident took place.

    He said in the incident a man died on the spot while two others were injured and they have been admitted to a hospital.

    He identified the deceased as Mohammad Rafeeq Qureshi (52) of Tadd Karnah.

    The two injured have been identified as Shakoor Ahmad a resident of Dragger and Mohammad Ramzan a resident of Handwara.

  • Two Vehicles Fall Off Cliff After Hit By Avalanche

    SRINAGAR: Two vehicles skidded off the road and rolled down the cliff after a snow avalanche came barreling down on the Srinagar-Kargil highway at Zojila Pass, Police said.

    The incident occurred near Panimatha Captain Mode at Zojil Pass.

    The ill-fated vehicles were on their way to Kargil from Srinagar.

    Station House Officer, Police Station Sonmarg, Fayaz Ahmed said that a passenger vehicle (Xylo) and a Camper rolled down after a snow avalanche hit them near Panimatha area on Zojila Pass.

    “Rescue teams including a police party rushed to the spot and retrieved the passengers, however, vehicles could not be retrieved due to the inclement weather,” he said adding that it is still snowing on Zojila Pass.

    The police officer further informed that after the incident, the Srinagar-Kargil highway has been closed to traffic.

    “We turned back all the vehicles that were heading for Kargil from Sonmarg,” he added. (KNT)

    SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Leh highway was closed for traffic on Monday afternoon after a snow avalanche blocked the road near Cafeteria Morh in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

    A Beacon official informed that the SSG road is blocked due to a snow avalanche near Cafeteria Morh. Meanwhile, several vehicles are stranded in the Sonamarg area after the road got closed.

    An official said that men and machinery have been pressed into service to clear the road. (KNO)

    SRINAGAR: A youth found was dead in a paddy field in Hassanpora Tawella area of Bijbehera in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that body of youth identified as Amir Rashid Ganai son of Abdul Rashid Ganai, of Hassanpora Tawella was found under mysterious circumstances in a paddy field in Dragad village.

    He said police have recovered his body from the spot and further investigation has been taken up.

  • 19 Year Old Dies By Suicide In Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: A 19-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide on Monday by hanging himself at his grandparents’ home in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

    An official said that the boy, hailing from Authkhuroo Rabitar village, allegedly hanged himself at his maternal grandparents’ home.

    Soon after the incident, the boy was rushed to PHC Lar where he was declared dead on arrival.

    “After conducting medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to his family for last rites,” the official added.

    The police have registered an FIR and initiated investigations into the matter. (KNO)

  • Truck Driver From North Kashmir Found Dead

    SRINAGAR: A truck driver from Baramulla district was found unconscious inside his truck at Wangund Qazigund near Toll Plaza area of South Kashmir Anantnag district.

    Identified as Taseer Ahmad Mala son of Ghulam Hassan Malla a resident of Panzla Gund Baramulla, he was found unconscious inside his truck bearing registration number JK05F- 4371. He was shifted to emergency hospital Qazigund where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

    Meanwhile a police official also confirmed that a case has been registered in this regard for further investigations.(GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Arms and ammunition believed to have been dropped by Pakistan and picked up by overground workers (OGWs) have been recovered in the Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district, The Tribune reported.

    This comes after the arrest of six OGWs who were assisting the militants behind the ambush on an army truck in Bhata Dhurian area of Mendhar on April 20.

    Two of the arrested OGWs, Nisar Ahmed and Mushtaq Ahmed, shared details about the hidden arms and ammunition. They disclosed that the arms were hidden in a forest and at a home. Acting on the information, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, CRPF, and Army conducted a raid near the house of Mushtaq Ahmed in Gursai police station’s jurisdiction. The team seized one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of AK-47, and a body cover of an assault rifle.

    Another OGW, Nisar Ahmed, was found to be in possession of two hand grenades, two AK-47 magazines, and Rs 19,000 in cash when his house was searched.

    Director General of Police Dilbag Singh while speaking to The Tribune confirmed that the arrest of the six OGWs, adding that they provided logistical support to the terrorists who carried out the ambush. The OGWs assisted the ultras by picking up the weaponry sent by Pakistan through drones near the LoC. The arms used in the ambush included steel bullets that penetrated the army truck.

    SRINAGAR: District administration Anantnag has launched a widescale rescue operation to evacuate nearly twenty families stuck along with their livestock at Margan Top in the Kokernag area, amid ongoing inclement weather conditions across the region.

    “A joint rescue operation comprising of revenue, police, army, CRPF, Medical, ASH, SRTC was launched to respond to a distress call at Nawkan, near Margan Top”, SDM Kokernag, who is leading the rescue operation under the overall supervision of DC Anantnag said.

    “It is estimated that there are some 20 families with livestock are stuck on the top,” the official said adding they have so far rescued two dozen people and around 20 farm animals.

    “Another team is on way with JCB machinery to tackle any eventuality”, the official said.

    “We have established a temporary shelter at Gawran and also a medical camp through army as a contingency measure”, the official added. (GNS)
