Congress, JD(S) supporters of Tipu, Karnataka safe only under BJP, says Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Dakshina Kannada: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and the JD(S), stating that both the opposition parties in Karnataka are supporters of Tipu Sultan (erstwhile ruler of Mysuru).

Shah, who is also the Union Co-operation Minister, was addressing a large gathering after inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Limited (Campko) at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district.

“You must decide whether you should vote for the JD(S) and the Congress which are supporters of Tipu Sultan, or your votes should go to the believers of Rani Abbakka (local queen who fought the Portuguese),” he said.

Shah said that only the BJP can work for the development of Karnataka, something the JD(S) or the Congress can never do.

“The Congress had released 1,700 workers of the Popular Front of India (PFI), while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has banned the outfit. Congress’ appeasement policies have damaged national integration and security,” Shah stated.

He added that only the BJP under the able leadership of Prime Minister Modi can keep the state safe.

“PM Modi has put an end to terrorism and Naxalism. The Congress and the JD(S) had claimed that there will be a bloodbath if Article 370 was withdrawn from Kashmir. But PM Modi’s government ensured that no one dared to carry out a single act of violence,” the Home Minister said.

Praising the culture of the region, Shah said that he has watched the film ‘Kantara’ and he also knows the director.

“The movie showcases the rich culture and tradition of the Mangaluru region,” he said.

Govt can’t act as robber of citizens’ land, says Karnataka HC

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: In a setback to the ruling BJP, the Karnataka High Court on Saturday stated that the government can’t act as “a robber of citizens’ land”.

A bench headed by Justice Krishna S. Dixit made these observations while partly allowing the petition filed by M.V. Guruprasad, Nandini M. Guruprasad and residents of J.P. Nagar locality of Bengaluru.

The court also objected to the conduct of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and its officers fell short of the fairness standard expected from them as it took severe objection to the fact of non-payment of compensation to land owners even 15 years after acquisition of their lands for setting up industries in 2007.

It maintained that the conduct of KIADB reinforces the shackles of a feudalistic attitude from which the transformative character of our Constitution seeks to liberate.

The petitioners filed a petition in 2016, questioning the land acquisition and non-payment of compensation by KIADB. In return, the government agency had filed its statement in this regard making a casual intimation to the court that there is delay in payment of compensation, and it would be made soon.

  • Rahul’s extended Karnataka presence during Yatra boosts party’s prospects

Rahul’s extended Karnataka presence during Yatra boosts party’s prospects

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: While the grand old party is facing a crisis like situation in all other states, the Congress is closer to the seat of power in Karnataka, according to political analysts.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi has boosted the party’s prospects in the assembly elections scheduled to be held in less than two months.

Rahul Gandhi covered 511 km by walking for 21 days during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Karnataka in three stages. The yatra evoked a huge response from the public when it entered the state. It passed through seven Lok Sabha and 20 assembly constituencies.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi came down to Karnataka during the yatra and walked along with her son Rahul in the Mandya district of the state. The yatra has reminded the people of the Congress party’s contributions to the state especially the implementation of the Land Reforms Act.

Karnataka is one among the few states where land reforms were implemented in the true spirit and lakhs of beneficiaries are loyal followers of the party. The act gave the land to the tiller, making them landowners.

More importantly, the Yatra successfully projected the candidatures of Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress president D.K. Shivakumar for the post of chief minister if the Congress is voted to power.

Rahul Gandhi clearly stated that the party MLAs will elect their leader and to a great extent put an end to the rivalry between the two leaders.

Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah have been effectively questioning and launching attacks on the state as well as central BJP leaders. Siddaramaiah is vehemently opposing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Hindutva, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Shivakumar has ridiculed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He had charged that the CBI and the ED are existent only for the opposition parties. He said that he would give a piece of his mind to the CBI to look after other important work rather than targeting him and his family.

The ruling BJP, which is trying to manage the anti-incumbency factor and return to power is making an all out effort in the state. The seriousness could be seen in Modi and Amit Shah’s repeated visits to the state.

The special mention of Karnataka during the presentation of the budget, budgetary allocation for the Upper Bhadra Project, approval for Detailed Project Report of the Kalasa-Banduri Project to utilize the waters of Mahadayi river, Modi and Amit Shah underlining the importance of the double engine government of the BJP for the development of the state are all part of the strategy to counter the Congress party.

The Congress has declared that an internal survey conducted by the party has given them a comfortable majority in the state in the upcoming elections. It maintains that competition between Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah for the post of CM has helped the party to grow stronger in the state.

The BJP which is claiming that it would fight the elections under a collective leadership and seek votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been able to project a CM candidate so far. The Congress is clearly projecting Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar as its probable CM candidates.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had ridiculed the Bharat Jodo Yatra as another attempt to relaunch a failed missile called Rahul Gandhi.

Lavanya Ballal, national social media coordinator from Karnataka, stated that the Yatra has been successful in waking up the nation to the hate narrative they are being fed. It was a timely reminder that our great nation was built on the foundation of peace. “We have a choice to treat fellow citizens with hate or build the nation with peace and love,” she said.

The Yatra was a very positive movement, it showed the citizens that the BJP government has been lying and cheating. “We didn’t design the yatra for election purposes so we have not looked into its impact on the state election,” she maintained.

Casteist slur in college fest: Karnataka Cong raises concern, urges for action

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress on Saturday raised concern over use of casteist slur in a skit performed at a college fest here.

“There is a video containing abusive and objectionable content on Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Dalit communities being exhibited in a programme organised at Jain college in Bengaluru,” it stated in its social media handle.

Demanding an action by the City Police Commissioner and Bengaluru police in this regard, the party said, “The police should take cognisance of the incident and initiate legal action.”

The incident during a college skit recently in Bengaluru has triggered a row with a police complaint being registered.

‘The Delroys Boys’, who performed the skit, have tendered an unconditional apology for the same. However, the debate over the issue is gaining traction.

On Thursday evening a group of students published an online petition on Jhatkaa.org bringing the incident to light. The petition stated the college contingent from Jain University’s Centre for Management Studies (CMS) staged an incredibly casteist and insensitive skit at the event.

The anonymous petitioners objected to the normalisation of caste discrimination in the pretext of humour. The skit was performed as part of ‘MadAds,’ a segment at the fest where the participants had to advertise imaginary products along lines of humour.

‘The Delroys Boys’, the theatre group from CMS, who are in the thick of controversy, in their skit, exhibited a man belonging to the lower caste attempting to date an upper caste woman. The skit turned B.R. Ambedkar as Beer Ambedkar. The phase of why be Dalit, when you can be D-Lit.

Akshay Bansode, State Member of the Vanchit Bahujan Yuva Aghadi has filed a police complaint in Maharashtra under provisions of the Atrocity Act and IPC. The complainant had urged the police to treat the complaint as FIR and initiate action against the performers and University.

The complainant had urged the police to treat the complaint as an FIR and initiate action against the performers and University.

Sources explain that the controversial skit was performed at other platforms. The Delroys Boys maintained that they apologise to everyone they have spoken badly about.

  • Karnataka: BJP’s CT Ravi accuses Congress of doing ‘politics’ over Tipu Sultan

Karnataka: BJP’s CT Ravi accuses Congress of doing ‘politics’ over Tipu Sultan

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Controversy over Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore, is refusing to die down with BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi accusing the opposition Congress of doing politics on the policies of the 18th-century warrior.

“Congress is doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. We are doing politics on the policies of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar,” BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi told ANI.

“There is a huge difference between them. Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar means development,” Ravi added.

Last year, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that the people of the State wouldn’t forgive Congress leaders for displaying a soft corner for terrorists and for talking about Tipu Sultan in order to appease the minority vote bank. The CM had made the remarks while addressing a Jan Sankalp Yatra that was attended by former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, in Pandavapura.

Leaders of Congress and BJP are engaged in a sort of war of words over Tipu Sultan who is being accused by certain outfits of killing Hindus.

In December last year, former chief minister Siddaramaiah hit out at BJP alleging the party of doing petty politics over the celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

“The people of the state are now convinced that the controversy and riots created by the BJP and the Sangh Parivar in the last few years, on the pretext of Tipu Sultan Jayanti celebrations, are politically motivated,” Siddaramaiah had alleged earlier.

Karnataka’s Bharatiya Janata President (BJP) Nalin Kumar Kateel on Wednesday stroked a controversy by saying that the upcoming assembly election in Karnataka is all “about Tipu vs Savarkar.”

Addressing the people on Wednesday, BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “This (Assembly) election is all about Tipu vs Savarkar. They (Cong) allowed celebrating Tipu Jayanti which was not required and spoke disgracefully about Savarkar. I challenge Siddaramaiah to discuss if our country needs a patriotic like Savarkar or Tipu.”

Meanwhile, BJP state president Kateel also challenged Siddaramaiah to debate on who is important for the state, Tipu or Savarkar.
“People need to understand if they need a patriotic like Savarkar or Tipu,” BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel said earlier in the month.

Karnataka is set to hold Assembly elections later this year to elect all 224 members of the Legislative Assembly.

Shivamogga: Karnataka’s Bharatiya Janata President (BJP) Nalin Kumar Kateel on Wednesday stroke a controversy by saying that the upcoming assembly election in Karnataka is all “about Tipu vs Savarkar.”

Addressing the people on Wednesday, BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “This (Assembly) election is all about Tipu vs Savarkar. Meanwhile, BJP state president Kateel also challenged Siddaramaiah to debate on who is important for the state Tipu or Savarkar.

“People need to understand if they need a patriotic like Savarkar or Tipu,” said BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Earlier on February 7, Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not expanding the Karnataka Cabinet as it is avoiding appointing the son of its senior leader BS Yediyurappa.

Karnataka is likely to undergo Assembly elections in April-May this year to elect all 224 members of the Legislative Assembly.

An important source of BJP said, “On the one hand, work is being done to reorganize and restructure the booth committee, so that the booth committee becomes more strong, on the other hand ‘Booth Vijay Abhiyan’, ‘Janaspandana Rally’, ‘Jana Sangathan Yatra’ are going on to ensure BJP’s victory in Karnataka and the party leaders are continuously interacting with people through these rallies.”

The sources said that the BJP believes that the organization becomes stronger by booth empowerment; if the booth is strong then the organization will remain active.

“Three months are left for the Karnataka elections. In view of the 2023 elections, all these preparations are being done and after that, we will focus on 2024,” the BJP sources said.

As far as reshuffling is concerned in the Karnataka government, the BJP source said that only three months are left, so there will be no big change in it.

  • Protests in Karnataka over Kumaraswamy’s ‘anti-Brahmin’ remarks

Protests in Karnataka over Kumaraswamy’s ‘anti-Brahmin’ remarks

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Days after Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy’s controversial remarks on Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Brahmin groups on Thursday staged protests at Koppal and Gangavathi, warning that they would tell Brahmins to maintain distance from the JD-S.

The Brahmin Samaj Youth Association has staged a protest at Ashoka circle in Koppal and Gangavathi cities and demanded an unconditional apology from Kumaraswamy.

Recent comments on Brahmanism, and on a Brahmin candidate becoming chief minister if the BJP is voted back to power, by Kumaraswamy have sparked a controversy in Karnataka.

However, Kumaraswamy later clarified that he has no objections if a Brahmin candidate is made the CM.

” … but if the party plans to make Pralhad Joshi the chief minister, if the BJP is voted to power, it must declare his candidature before the assembly elections. The main reason for me to mention Pralhad Joshi’s name is not because he is a Brahmin. He belongs to a lineage which has the DNA of the killer of Mahatma Gandhi and ones who attacked Sringeri Mutt. Karnataka Brahmins are well cultured. I don’t have any intention of fixing the BJP party. I have intentions of not letting the people into a fix,” he said.

“There is a conspiracy to project different faces in the elections to get votes and make a backdoor entry to the post of CM. These conspiracies should not cheat people. That is why I am voicing concerns,” Kumaraswamy said.

Meanwhile, one of the protesters said: “It is not correct to target the community for politics. The political difference is a personal matter. These statements would create rifts in society.”

“Kumaraswamy should apologise for this. Otherwise, legal action will be initiated against him. The complaint would be given to the Governor also. The community members will be asked to maintain their distance from the JD-S,” another protestor said.

Karnataka: School marks UKG student ‘fail’, govt seeks clarification

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: A private school in Bengaluru has failed a six-year-old UKG student following which the state education department has sought clarification.

The parents and educationists have slammed the school management for their insensitive approach toward the child.

The incident took place at the Saint Joseph Chaminade Academy, located in Deepahalli in Anekal town on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The marks card issued to the girl child mentions that she has failed. It showed that in one of the subjects Nandini scored five marks out of 40.

BJP MLA and former Education Minister S Suresh Kumar slammed the school management. “What is this so-called institution up to regarding the child? I want to visit this ‘wonderful’ school once,” he said.

He had also directed the authorities to take action in this regard. The law says that students between one and ninth standard should not be failed. The management had shown utter negligence in following this rule.

On the other hand, the parents of the child have also slammed the school. “Declaring the result of a six-year-old child is not correct and it will make the child suffer,” Manoj Badal, father of the child stated.

The school management had clarified that the institution has not declared anyone to fail. The marks card were related to a unit test. The school uses a mobile application for the results. The pass marks and fail marks are set. The matter has been brought to the notice of the parents and the software company has already been consulted for rectification.

Block Education Officer from Anekal Jayalakshmi has issued a notice to the school and sought clarification over the issue. The department has asked the school to submit written clarification by Thursday, failing which the permission to the school would be withdrawn, the notice warned.
