Mandya: Thousands of people and party workers thronged on either side of the road in Mandya and cheered Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is holding a roadshow on Sunday. PM Modi was showered with flowers by the crowd.

Modi arrived in poll-bound Karnataka to participate in various programmes. He landed in a special flight at the Mysuru airport.

The roadshow will be held between the 1.8 km stretch of Pravasi Mandir Circle to Nanda Circle. He will address a public rally at Gejjalagere Colony after inaugurating the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.

Meanwhile, people and various groups staged a protest near Kanaminike toll plaza in Bengaluru South taluk opposing PM Modi’s programme. The protesters raised slogans against PM Modi and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for inaugurating the expressway without the construction of a service road.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Karnataka. He will dedicate India’s longest railway platform in Hubballi.

Ruling BJP government in the state has made elaborate arrangements for PM Modi’s visit. The 10-lane expressway has been projected as one of the biggest contributions of the double engine government. All major political parties in the state are engaged in a war of words for claiming the credit.

The expressway was built at a cost of Rs 8,479. PM Modi will dedicate a 1.5 km long railway platform at the Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station to the nation. According to South Western Railways, it is also the world’s longest platform.

Video: ‘This is Karnataka, why should I speak in Hindi?’, autorickshaw driver gets irritated

    [ad_1]

A video has emerged from Bengaluru where an irritated autorickshaw driver is seen arguing with women passengers who reportedly asked him to speak in Hindi.

The video has since gone viral with around 38,000 views on Twitter. Many have lauded the autorickshaw driver for not bowing to his passengers’ demands.

However, it is still not clear what led to the argument. The video starts with the autorickshaw telling the ladies, “This is Karnataka and you have to speak in Kannada. You people are north Indian beggars, why have you come to Karnataka?”

As he speaks, one of the passengers says, “No, we will not speak Kannada, why should we speak in Kannada?”

The autorickshaw driver is irritated and stops his vehicle yelling, “This is our land, not your land. Why should I speak in Hindi?”

Realizing it could lead to a tense situation, the woman passengers get down and say “Okay” to calm the situation.

Recently, pan India actor Prakash Raj, who originally hails from Karnataka, wore a T-shirt that read, “Nange Hindi Baralla, Hogappa” which translates to “I don’t know Hindi, Go!”

The actor received a lot of flake from netizens who termed it as an “insult” to Hindi. A Supreme Court lawyer shared the actor’s photo in the T-shirt and tagged Tamil Nadu police demanding an FIR.

The actor took to Twitter saying, “My roots..my mother tongue is KANNADA .. if you DISRESPECT her and try to FORCE your language.. we will PROTEST like this. R u threatening #justasking”

He added, “I speak 7 languages. To learn n speak a language is RESPECTING its people . I have learned every language of the people I work with. I don’t force my language. But if you disrespect mine and force your language I will stand up and protest #stopHindiImposition #justasking”

Karnataka Police register case on Swapna Suresh’s complaint, begin probe

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: Two days after Swapna Suresh — the prime accused in the gold smuggling case and Life Mission scam, went live on her Facebook claiming she might be killed as the CPI-M in Kerala and its leaders were targetting her, the Karnataka Police on Saturday registered a case based on her complaint.

“The hunt is on… Karnataka Police swung into action on the basis of my complaint. They registered a case against Vijesh Pillai, recorded my statement, took me to the hotel where Pillai stayed and the meeting took place and collected evidence.

“The hotel management informed the Karnataka police that Pillai was staying in the hotel with another person. Who’s that anonymous person who remained in the background?” she posted on Facebook.

On Thursday, Swapna Suresh said Pillai had approached her and sought an appointment with her.

He said that his OTT platform was planning a web series on her trials and tribulations.

She claimed that Pillai, “acting as a middleman of the CPI-M”, said if she withdraws her allegations against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his wife, daughter and son, she would be given Rs 30 crore and a visa to Malaysia.

Swapna Suresh said the Kerala unit CPI-M secretary M.V. Govindan — according to Pillai — had threatened to even eliminate her “if she does not accept the offer”.

However, Pillai on Friday denied the allegations, saying he had discussed with her only the web series plans.

Meanwhile, Govindan on Saturday threatened to initiate legal proceedings against Swapna Suresh.

“Vijayan has other important things to tackle… no one can defame a tall leader like Vijayan,” he said.

Karnataka High Court cancels board exams for 5th, 8th standards

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday cancelled the board examinations for the fifth and eighth standards from this academic year. The ministry of education was all set to hold the board exams from this academic year.

The bench headed by Justice Pradeep Singh Yerur opined that as per rules, the board exams for fifth and eighth classes could be held from the next year.

RUPSA president Lokesh Talikatte had filed a petition in the High Court challenging the public exams for fifth and eighth standard students. He had challenged the new evaluation process from the academic year 2022-23 in an order dated December 12, 2022.

The petition was submitted before a single bench seeking a stay on the order. The appeal was filed before the division bench later.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice P.B. Varale and Justice Ashok S. Kinagi has also opined against conducting public exams. The single bench order has been given following the direction of the division bench.

The board exams for the fifth and eighth standards had faced stiff resistance. Parents had questioned the necessity of board exams for these classes, when the CBSE does not hold exams for them. It was alleged that the education department is encouraging the tuition mafia.

The proposal to hold board exams for lower classes was dropped earlier also when S. Suresh Kumar was the Minister for Education due to stiff opposition by the parents.

  • Tipu Sultan razed temple to build Jama Masjid, claims Karnataka BJP

Tipu Sultan razed temple to build Jama Masjid, claims Karnataka BJP

    [ad_1]

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary C T Ravi claimed that the Jama Masjid in Srirangapatnam town of Mandya district, Karnataka is built over an ancient Anjanaya (Hanuman) temple, which was ‘razed down’ by Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan.

Addressing reporters, Ravi, flanked by senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa, demanded an archaeological survey of the mosque in order to prove his point.

“There’s a Kote Anjaneya temple that has been turned into a Masjid. Let the archaeology department survey it. If there is any evidence of a temple then they (Congress) must accept the fact that Tipu was a fanatic, if not, we will tender an apology,” said Ravi.

The 18th-century Mysuru ruler is a constant target of the saffron party.

Last year, state chief minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that the people of the state wouldn’t forgive Congress leaders for displaying a soft corner for terrorists and for talking about Tipu Sultan in order to appease the minority vote bank. He made the remarks while addressing a Jan Sankalp Yatra that was attended by former CM B S Yediyurappa in Pandavapura.

On February 10, Ravi accused the Congress party of doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. “Congress is doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. We are doing politics on the policies of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar,” he said.

On February 15, Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kateel Kumar, while addressing a public rally, asked them to “kill” all “ardent followers” of Tipu Sultan.

“I ask the people here whether you offer prayers to Lord Hanuman or Tipu. Then will you send those who are ardent followers of Tipu to the forest? Think about it. Do you think Karnataka needs Hanuman devotees or descendants of Tipu? I am issuing a challenge — those who are ardent followers of Tipu should not remain alive on this fertile soil,” Kateel said.
