New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on April 8 and 9.

He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of a slew of projects in Telangana and Tamil Nadu, while in Karnataka, he will launch an international big cats conservation initiative, his office said on Wednesday.

“Modi to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 11,300 crore in Telangana,” the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

    MS Education Academy

On April 8, at around 11:45 am, the prime minister will reach the Secunderabad Railway Station and flag off the Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express.

The Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express, connecting IT City, Hyderabad, with the abode of Lord Venkateswara, Tirupati, is the second Vande Bharat train to be started from Telangana within a short span of three months, the statement said.

The train will reduce the travel time between the two cities by almost three-and-a-half hours and will be particularly beneficial for pilgrim passengers, it said.

At around 12:15 pm, Modi will attend a public function at the Parade Ground in Hyderabad where he will lay the foundation stone of AIIMS Bibinagar.

He will also lay the foundation stone of five national highway projects. Modi will lay the foundation stone of redevelopment of the Secunderabad Railway Station and dedicate to the nation other development projects related to railways.

The redevelopment of the Secunderabad Railway Station, to be done at a cost of Rs 720 crore, is being planned such that it will undergo a massive makeover with world-class amenities and aesthetically designed iconic station building, the statement said.

The redeveloped station would be having a double-level spacious roof plaza with all passenger amenities at one place, along with multimodal connectivity for providing seamless transfer of passengers from rail to other modes among others.

During the programme, the prime minister will flag off 13 new Multi-Modal Transport Service (MMTS) services in the suburban section of Hyderabad Secunderabad twin city region, providing commuters with a fast, convenient and comfortable travel option.

He will also dedicate to the nation the doubling and electrification of the Secunderabad Mahabubnagar project.

The project stretching for a distance of over 85 km has been completed at a cost of nearly Rs 1,410 crores. The project will provide seamless connectivity and assist in enhancing the average speed of trains.

In Tamil Nadu, the prime minister will inaugurate the New Integrated Terminal Building (Phase-1) of the Chennai International Airport, developed at the cost of Rs 1,260 crore.

The addition of this new integrated terminal building will increase the passenger serving capacity of the airport from 23 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) to 30 MPPA, the statement said.

The new terminal is a striking reflection of the local Tamil culture, incorporating traditional features such as the Kolam, Saree, Temples, and other elements that highlight the natural surroundings, it said.

At a function at MGR Chennai Central Railway Station, Prime Minister Modi will flag off Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express. He will flag off the express service between Tambaram and Sengottai.

Modi will also flag off a DEMU service from Thiruthuraipoondi-Agasthiyampalli, which will benefit commuters from Coimbatore, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

The prime minister will also inaugurate the 37-km gauge conversion section between Thiruthuraipoondi and Agasthiyampalli, which has been completed at a cost of Rs 294 crore, the statement said.

This will benefit the movement of edible and industrial salt from Agasthiyampalli in Nagapattinam district, it said.

Prime Minister Modi will participate in the celebrations commemorating the 125th anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Math in Chennai.

Swami Ramakrishnananda had started Sri Ramakrishna Math in Chennai in 1897. Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission are spiritual organisations engaged in various forms of humanitarian and social service activities.

At a public programme at the Alstrom cricket ground in Chennai, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of road projects worth about Rs 3,700 crore. The projects include inauguration of a 7.3-km-long elevated corridor in Madurai City and a 24.4-km-long four-lane road of National Highway 785.

He will also lay the foundation stone of construction of road projects of National Highway-744. The project worth more than Rs 2,400 crore will boost inter-state connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and ensure a convenient journey for pilgrims visiting Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, Andal Temple in Srivilliputhur and Sabarimala in Kerala.

In poll-bound Karnataka, the prime minister will visit the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in the morning and interact with frontline field staff and self help groups involved in conservation activities.

He will also visit the Theppakadu Elephant camp in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and interact with mahouts and kavadis.

The prime minister will also interact with field directors of tiger reserves that have scored the highest in the recently concluded 5th cycle of Management Effectiveness Evaluation exercise.

Prime Minister Modi will also launch the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA).

In July 2019, the prime minister had called for an alliance of global leaders to obliterate demand and firmly curb poaching and illegal wildlife trade in Asia.

IBCA will focus on protection and conservation of seven major big cats of the world — tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, puma, jaguar and cheetah — with membership of the range countries harbouring these species.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the programme ‘Commemoration of 50 years of Project Tiger’.

During the programme, he will release the publications ‘Amrit kaal ka vision for tiger conservation’, summary report of 5th cycle of Management Effective Evaluation of Tiger Reserves, declare tiger numbers and release summary report of All India Tiger Estimation (5th cycle).

AAP demands closure of toll plazas in Karnataka, just like Punjab

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Aam Aadmi Party’s Karnataka state communication in-charge Brijesh Kalappa on Wednesday demanded closure of toll plazas in the state, on the lines his party’s government in Punjab.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s state office, Kalappa said, “Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann are going to each toll plaza and verifying — What was in the PPP type agreement, how much money should have been collected, how much money has been collected, which toll should have been closed, and later they are taking appropriate action.”

“Eight toll plazas have been shut down since the AAP government came to power in Punjab. But in Karnataka, for the greed of commission, the toll plazas continue to function despite the expiry of the period,” he claimed.

    MS Education Academy

“Action should be taken against many toll plazas whose term has expired, including the Tumkur toll plaza where 20 years tenure has elapsed. The tolls are added burden to the people who are already troubled by the hike in petrol prices,” said Kalappa.

“We had said that the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway is not a ten-lane but a six-lane one. Later, the government also accepted this. Toll was not levied when the highway was converted from two lanes to four lanes.

“In the same way, even now when six-lanes are made from four lanes, it should have helped the common people without charging toll. It would have then made sense if the government had boasted of giving roads for free.

While the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi has opened swimming pools in government schools, swimming pools are getting created on their own on the roads developed by the BJP government,” said Kalappa.

  • PM Modi to address 20 rallies in Karnataka ahead of polls

PM Modi to address 20 rallies in Karnataka ahead of polls

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address a total of 20 public rallies in a span of 30 days in the poll-bound state of Karnataka ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 10, a BJP source said on Tuesday.

The source said that the Prime Minister’s “first round of visits” ahead of the announcement of the Assembly election date helped the party gain “some momentum”.

“His public rallies and road shows attracted a large number of people, and also helped the party,” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) source said.

    MS Education Academy

The Prime Minister will be visiting Karnataka for the seventh time on April 9 on the occasion of the completion of 50 years of Tiger project.

The opposition Congress leaders, however, have dubbed PM Modi “a poll agent” for his “too many visits to Karnataka”.

On this, the BJP source said that Modi’s “visits have been successful in tilting the wave towards the saffron party and beating the anti-incumbency factor”.

However, the arrest of BJP legislator Madal Virupakshappa in connection with a bribery case has come as a blow to the party.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s public rally venue was changed from Davanagere district for the same reason.

Another source said that the party, in a bid to put that episode behind, wants to launch a high-voltage campaign ahead of the polls.

According to a party insider, PM Modi is expected to address 20 public rallies in a span of one month.

The Prime Minister’s rallies would also focus on constituencies where the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular are “strong”, BJP sources said.

  • Karnataka BJP MLA Gopalakrishna joins Congress ahead of Assembly polls

Karnataka BJP MLA Gopalakrishna joins Congress ahead of Assembly polls

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Several BJP and JD(S) leaders joining the Congress ahead of the May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka is an evidence to prove that public sentiment is in favour of the party and it will come to power, its state unit President D K Shvakumar said on Monday.

He was speaking after inducting Kudligi BJP MLA N Y Gopalakrishna, who had resigned as legislator on Friday, into the party, at KPCC office here.

With the possibility of Gopalakrishna being fielded as a candidate from Molakalmuru constituency, a group of Congress workers picketed outside the KPCC office, demanding the ticket to party leader Yogesh Babu.

    MS Education Academy

“Several BJP and JD(S) leaders are knocking our door, this is evidence to show that the voice of the people of the state is in favour of the Congress and that our march is on a right track, towards power,” Shivakumar said.

Speaking to reporters here, he noted Gopalakrishna resigned as BJP MLA and joined the Congress; similarly JD(S) MLA K M Shivalinge Gowda too has resigned and will be joining the party soon.

BJP and JD(S) legislators joining the Congress voluntarily is a “big evidence” that people have decided for a change, after the “failure of the double engine government”, the KPCC chief further said.

“There is a big list of people wanting to join the Congress…the party has not assured tickets to anyone. We will screen every name, only if we are able to accommodate them we will consider,” he said, adding that there are also some like Gopalakrishna, who are willing to join the party unconditionally to work for it.

Shivakumar’s clarification that those joining the party are not being assured tickets, is seen as a message to protesting party workers, and those disgruntled with such inductions.

Workers are against the party’s possible plans to give Molakalmuru ticket to Gopalakrishna, a “turncoat”, instead of Babu, who was the Congress candidate from the constituency in the 2018 polls.

Gopalakrishna, a six-time MLA, was earlier with the Congress and had got elected from Molakalmuru Assembly segment in Chitradurga district four times, and once from Ballari, before joining the BJP and winning from Kudligi.

After denial of the Congress ticket in 2018, he had joined the BJP ahead of the elections. The saffron party gave him a ticket from Kudligi in Vijayanagara district instead of Molakalmuru, as senior leader Sriramulu was fielded from there. He had won from there.

Recalling his and his family’s long association with the Congress, Gopalakrishna after joining said he will work for the party’s victory in Ballari, Chitradurga and Vijayanagara districts.

He said he will work towards installing a Congress government once again in the state, and it is left for the party leadership to field him from the Molakalmuru Assembly segment.

Recently, two MLCs from BJP — Puttanna and Baburao Chinchansur — had quit from their Legislative Council membership to join the Congress.

JD(S) MLA S R Srinivas (Gubbi Srinivas alias Vasu) too joined the Congress, after resigning as MLA on March 27.
