‘Kannadigas should rebel move to sell Amul milk in Karnataka’: Kumaraswamy

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: JD(S) leader H. D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday called upon the people of Karnataka to oppose the move to sell Amul milk in the state.

“Amul is being pushed into Karnataka from backdoor with the support of the Central government. The Amul is strangulating the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and the farmers. Kannada people should rebel against Amul,” Kumaraswamy, the former chief minister, stated.

“We as Kannadigas should oppose Amul and protect the interest of Karnataka farmers unitedly. Our people and customers should use Nandini products on priority and save the livelihood of farmers,” he stated.

    MS Education Academy

The Karnataka government had allotted a big plot to Amul in Koramangala of Bengaluru for cheap price. When the government here had shown such a magnanimous gesture, Amul is “conspiring” against milk producers and KMF, he charged.

Amul had to be obligated to as during the tenure of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, special ice cream unit was established in Yelahanka and KMF is till date producing large quantity of ice cream for Amul, Kumaraswamy maintained.

It is very clear that BJP’s double engine government is planning to push milk producers to streets and “enslave” them to people of Gujarat. The “suspicious silence” of the Karnataka BJP government and KMF has led to many suspicions, Kumaraswamy stated.

Amul is planning to give competition to Nandini which is not required and weaken Nandini brand. The “unhealthy” competition between two cooperatives is uncalled for, he said.

“The Amul management is bent on finishing off Kannadigas and KMF. Amul wants to stop its only competitor Nandini on its own turf. One nation, one Amul, one milk , one Gujarat seems to be the official stand of the Central government,” Kumaraswamy alleged.

‘No tension’ in releasing list of Karnataka candidates: Bommai

    [ad_1]

Shivamogga: There is no tension regarding the list of BJP candidates for the coming Karnataka Assembly polls but there are expectations, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Friday.

He told reporters here that competition is common when there are a lot of aspirants.

“The party parliamentary board will meet on April 8 and 9 and then release the list of candidates. The list is getting prepared democratically as the opinions of workers of all levels have been taken and discussed in Taluk and district-level committees. The feelings of people have been considered while preparing the list. Three names are proposed for each constituency,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

Bommai claimed that the opposition Congress did not have suitable candidates for 60 constituencies and the candidates were brought from other parties and given the tickets.

Just before the release of the second list, Congress state chief D.K. Shivakumar called up many BJP MLAs and offered them tickets, he also claimed.

“The Congress leaders talk something outside but their intentions are different. The Congress will fare much worse in the coming Assembly polls than the 2018 Assembly polls as it lacks suitable candidates, has no organisation at the grassroots level, and no proper ideology or principles,” he added.

Asked about Shivakumar’s threat to cancel all reservations including international quota, the CM said no one can touch this and challenged the Congress leaders to do it.

On BJP MLC Laxman Savadi’s statement of holding him responsible for the defeat of Mahesh Kumatalli, the CM said he had already spoken with Savadi and there is nothing big. The MLC is a senior BJP leader and worked as Deputy Chief Minister, he added.

“Savadi knows his responsibility. I have spoken to him and everything will be okay soon.”

Reacting to a question on the opposition parties attacking noted Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep for extending support to the BJP, Bommai said it was upto them if others wanted to take Sudeep with them for the poll campaign. The actor has already clarified that he decided to support him because of help extended during his initial days in the Kannada film field, he added.

4% Muslim quota: Karnataka Congress chief vows to cancel BJP’s call

    [ad_1]

Karnataka: Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday said that if the grand old party came to power in the assembly elections, it would cancel the scrapping of 4 percent Muslim quota by the ruling government.

In March, the Karnataka government decided to scrap the four per cent quota for minorities and add it to the existing quota of two dominant communities of the poll-bound state.

The 4 per cent reservation given to Muslims under 2B classification of the OBC category will now be divided into two equal parts and added to the existing quota of Vokkaligas and Lingayats for whom two new reservation categories of 2C and 2D were created during the Belagavi Assembly Session last year.

While talking to ANI, Shivakumar said, “Without any complications, we raised our two lists. BJP could not raise its list yet…More lists will come…As soon as our government comes, we will cancel the reservation issue and will protect the minority interest.”

On Thursday, Congress released the second list of 41 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 and also marked a seat for the regional outfit Sarvodaya Karnataka Party. The announcement was made following the meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parliamentary Board would finalise and release the list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state on April 8.

The Chief Minister added that the selection of the candidates has been done based on winnability.

The Congress had on March 25 announced its first list of 124 candidates, which included names of former CM Siddaramaiah and State Party chief DK Shivakumar.

The Assembly election in Karnataka is scheduled to be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Karnataka BJP MLA files police complaint after ‘indecent photos’ go viral

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor on Thursday lodged a police complaint in connection with the release of his alleged indecent photographs with an unidentified woman in Dakshina Kannada district.

Matandoor has also stated that the viral photos were edited and made viral as part of a conspiracy to ensure his downfall. He lodged the complaint with the Uppinangady police station and demanded police to initiate a legal action against those who are making the photos viral.

The police have registered an FIR under the provision of the Information Technology Act and are investigating the case.

    MS Education Academy

The development is seen as yet another setback to the ruling BJP party in Karnataka ahead of polls in May. The alleged photos of the BJP MLA from Puttur Assembly constituency with an unidentified woman in a jolly mood have gone viral on social media in Dakshina Kannada district.

Sources said that it was a handiwork of BJP insiders.

Sources also said that the intention in this episode was to put pressure on the party to deny the ticket to Matandoor. There is a hectic lobby against him and even Congress wants to wrestle the seat, they add. In the 2018 elections, Matandoor had defeated Congress candidate Shakuntala Shetty by 19,447 votes.

There were rumours spread about Matandoor over a private video earlier also. Sources said that Matandoor, has done a good work on the ground, but has many enemies within the party and even the Sangh Parivar leaders are not happy about him.

BJP sources said that the party has considered the development seriously. At a time when the party is still recovering from the shock of the arrest of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, this development has upset the party.

Arun Kumar, a Hindu activist, and Ashok Rai, an industrialist, social activist and a supporter of former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, are also ticket aspirants from the Puttur constituency.
