    SRINAGAR: An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 struck Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

    The NCS in a tweet said that the 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck north of J&K capital Srinagar at 6:57 am. There were no immediate reports of damage from J&K.

    The J&K earthquake was reported by the NCS shortly after two earthquakes were reported in Afghanistan-Tajikistan region. The NCS in another tweet shared that a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the region of Tajikistan bordering Afghanistan at 6:10 am.

    Jakarta: A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia’s eastern province of North Maluku on Friday morning, but did not cause casualties or damages, authorities said.

    The earthquake occurred at 03:02 a.m. local time Friday (2002 GMT Thursday) with its epicentre located 133 km northwest of Morotai Island district and a depth of 112 km under the seabed, and did not trigger a tsunami, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

    The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in the nearby province of North Sulawesi, according to the agency.

    So far, the tremors of the quake did not cause damages on buildings or infrastructure facilities, said Abdul Muhari, spokesman of the National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency as quoted by Xinhua news agency report.

    “There are no initial reports of damages or casualties after the earthquake,” the spokesman told Xinhua through phone.

    “The residents in the Morotai Island district felt the tremors, but they were not panic,” Yusri A Kasim, head of the emergency unit of the disaster agency in North Maluku province, told Xinhua by phone.

    Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire”.

    An earthquake, with a magnitude 6.3 at a depth of two km (1.2 miles), struck the Turkey-Syria border region on Monday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

     

    Two Reuters witnesses reported a strong quake and further damage to buildings in central Antakya, where it was centered. It was also felt in Egypt and Lebanon, reported Reuters.

     

     

    Other witnesses said Turkish rescue teams were running around after the latest quake, checking people were unharmed.

     

    Muna Al Omar, a resident, said she was in a tent in a park in central Antakya when the earthquake hit.

     

    “I thought the earth was going to split open under my feet,” she said, crying as she held her 7-year-old son in her arms.

    However, there were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property due to the earthquake.

    “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.4, Occurred on 20-02-2023, 22:07:11 IST, Lat: 33.03 & Long: 75.89, Depth: 25 Km ,Location: 89km E of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir,” National Centre for Seismology said in a tweet.

    SRINAGAR: Tremors were felt in Katra early morning on Friday, according to National Centre for Seismology.

    An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter Scale was recorded at 5.01 am today. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 10 km.

    “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.6, Occurred on 17-02-2023, 05:01:49 IST, Lat: 33.10 & Long: 75.97, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 97km E of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir,” National Centre for Seismology said in a tweet.

    Further details are awaited.

    Kathmandu: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Western Nepal on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

    The earthquake, with epicentre in the Mela area of Bajura district in Sudurpaschim province, hit the region at 2:43 PM local time, Lokvijaya Adhikari, head of the Earthquake Measurement Centre, was quoted as saying by Ekantipur news portal.

    There was no immediate report of damage to life or property.

    Monika Dahal, head of the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, said that the quake measuring 5.9-magnitude was felt in the wider areas of Western Nepal. It was also felt in some parts of neighbouring India.

    In December 2022, three tremors jolted Western Nepal in quick succession.

    In April 2015, a devastating earthquake of 7.8 magnitude rocked Nepal, killing nearly 9,000 people and wounding nearly 22,000 others. It also damaged over 800,000 houses and school buildings.
